A blissful time filled with beauty and warmth
Its kaleidoscopic beauty resonates deeply in the heart. Exquisitely prepared with sincere care, the cuisine is truly delicious. A beautiful garden that reflects the seasons—so captivating you could gaze at it forever. Elegant summer décor that lets you fully experience Kyoto’s traditional culture. Hanging scrolls, ikebana, and a beautifully arranged Room down to every detail. The head chef, attendants, the young proprietress, and the proprietress herself offer warm, attentive hospitality with genuine grace. Thinking that all of this beauty is an expression of love for each guest fills me with freshness and gratitude. At Kikkawa, you can feel the refined spirit of Kyoto—an appreciation for making everyday life beautiful and joyful. It began as an Accommodation I hoped to stay at at least once in my life; before I knew it, this was my 11th visit. A superb culinary Ryokan I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone who truly loves Kyoto.

Savor summer tempura.
I visited Mr. Yoshikawa and enjoyed tempura. I had been there in winter and spring before, so the koi in the garden were resting, but this time they were swimming energetically and looked beautiful. The tempura was excellent—not only rare ingredients to have as tempura such as tilefish (matsukasa-age) and grouper, but also familiar vegetables like okra and eggplant, which were perfectly crisp on the outside yet meltingly tender inside. I heard that changes are coming to Tomikoji as well, but I hope both the Accommodation and the cuisine will be preserved for generations to come.

I stayed at Yoshikawa for the first time after having my eye on it for a while. It’s a wonderful Accommodation, just as reputed! The Room, service, and cuisine were all impeccable. For dinner, we enjoyed freshly fried tempura at the tempura counter—crispy and absolutely delicious. The dishes other than tempura were also outstanding! The garden view from the Room where we had breakfast was beautiful, and the attendant in charge of breakfast was friendly and made our time truly enjoyable. This is an Accommodation I would love to stay at again when visiting Kyoto!

For my first trip with my son
Thank you for calling to confirm before our stay and for preparing an electric kettle for formula, a baby bouncer, and even a baby futon. It was our first trip with our son, but we felt at ease throughout. The Airweave mattress is also firm and supportive, which reduces the risk of an infant sinking in and suffocating, and I was amazed that my back—strained from carrying him—also recovered. Even though our son was noisy, everyone was truly kind to him. Although he is usually shy around strangers, he spent the time smiling happily. He was fascinated by the koi fish he saw for the first time, and we were able to fully enjoy the garden as its atmosphere changed dramatically from morning to afternoon to night. The meals were delicious as well. I forgot to mention that I am breastfeeding, yet you thoughtfully made my drinks decaffeinated… Thanks not only to the beauty of the building and the wonderful food but also to everyone’s attentive care, we had a one-of-a-kind experience. Thank you very much for everything.

Kyoto’s Finest Accommodation
It was already wonderful, but this time it felt even more elevated. The coordinated service from the proprietress to the younger staff was truly impressive—there wasn’t a single flaw to be found. The hospitality and cuisine surpass even top-tier Hotels in Tokyo and Osaka; there is probably no Ryokan in Kyoto that can rival this place. Thank you again for all your thoughtful care and attention during our stay.

This is Kyoto
Stayed with family for the first time in central Kyoto. The hospitality from arrival to departure was exceptional, offering a true Kyoto experience. The accommodation is not large, but the atmosphere makes you realize that size doesn't matter. The room is spacious enough and provides a traditional Japanese ambiance. Meals, drinks, and even tea were delicious and luxurious, leaving the whole family very satisfied. Although I usually don't revisit places, this is one accommodation I would love to return to again.

Excellent customer service
The hospitality was excellent. I usually stay at membership-based hotels like Hotel Exiv, but the service at this Ryokan was even better. Since it’s Kyoto, the Kansai dialect? The local accent is quite noticeable, and you can enjoy the confident hospitality of the staff. Some may find the tone a bit strong, but I personally enjoyed it as it added to the travel experience.

Harvest Moon
With the approach of the Harvest Moon, I felt the essence of autumn with decorations such as a bug cage, pampas grass arrangements, and moon-viewing ornaments. Although it rained on the day of our stay, the garden looked even more beautiful as if cleansed by the rain. The meals were all delicious. The chef kindly shaved fresh bonito flakes onto our dishes and shared stories about Kyoto, making it an enjoyable experience. When we arrived and were shown to our room, we received a warm and polite greeting—thank you very much for that. I was very satisfied with my stay at this ryokan.

It was amazing again!
This was my second visit, and once again, I had the most wonderful and happy time! The dinner and breakfast were truly satisfying, offering a taste that made me feel like I was in Kyoto. The bath had the perfect water temperature, helping me relax and wash away all my fatigue. I will definitely visit again! I also purchased the monkey incense holder from the front desk before leaving—it's now one of my favorites (laughs). Thank you for letting me know about it!

It was a wonderful time.
I visited with my mother. Located slightly off the main street, the surroundings include some apartment buildings, but inside the accommodation, it was truly quiet and we were able to relax. This time, we were looking forward to the tempura kaiseki meal, and it did not disappoint. The beautifully presented kaiseki dishes and freshly fried crispy tempura were absolutely delicious. The garden was also stunning, leaving us completely satisfied. The hanging scroll of koi by Ito Jakuchu was also very impressive. Although I have stayed at one of Kyoto's three most renowned accommodations before, I believe this ryokan is equally wonderful in its own right. The price including meals is very reasonable as well. The staff at the ryokan kindly interacted with us throughout our stay, creating wonderful memories for my mother and me. Thank you so much! We hope to visit again someday!

Wonderful Stay in Kyoto
In early March, we stayed as a family of three for a short weekend trip. The accommodation itself seemed to be a historic building, but it was so well-maintained that it felt modern and comfortable. The bath had a pleasant aroma of cypress and was spacious enough. The meals, which we were most looking forward to, were satisfying, especially the tempura made with ingredients rarely used at home. Since we were traveling with an infant, the hostess and staff provided thoughtful care and warm hospitality. Overall, it was an extremely satisfying stay, and we would love to stay again if given the opportunity.

Visited with a 2-year-old child.
I visited for the first time two years ago and had a great experience, so I decided to return. From the moment of arrival, we were warmly welcomed. The room was delightfully decorated with seasonal touches, and we enjoyed a relaxing time taking baths before meals. This time, since we had children with us, we opted for a private room instead of the counter to enjoy kaiseki cuisine. The tempura was excellent as expected, and other dishes were also delicious. They served our meal at a good pace so that our child wouldn't get bored but without making us feel rushed. Although our accommodation was in a room without a garden view, they prepared a dining area where we could see the courtyard garden during meals, which made us very happy. We apologize for having you put away flowers and dolls to prevent any accidents caused by our child; however, your thoughtful consideration throughout made it an enjoyable one-night stay.

I stayed with my elderly mother and two children, a total of three people. Thanks to the warm hospitality of the proprietress, the young proprietress, the maid, and the head chef, we were able to spend an incredibly happy New Year.
