    An Unexpectedly Wonderful Stay

My husband, daughter, and I travel to Hokkaido every year, and this time we visited Jozankei Onsen for the first time. We had imagined it as an Onsen area popular with large tour groups, but this Ryokan was run by a small team and their service was outstanding. It was the first time in a while that we truly enjoyed both our stay and delicious meals at a Ryokan. Not only the Japanese staff but also the international staff were highly professional in the way they spoke and in their knowledge of the cuisine (ingredients, cooking methods, etc.), and you could clearly see how diligently they are always learning. The lounge on the second floor offered light snacks, late-night bites, and tasty drinks throughout the day, which we enjoyed after bathing. The three of us stayed in a Japanese-Western style Room. We have a few minor comments about how the Room is partitioned and that there is no screen on the open-air bath window, but the free-flowing hot spring water from the source was excellent. We didn’t know there was such a Ryokan in Jozankei Onsen where individual travelers could enjoy themselves so much. We would love to visit again in another season.

    The meals are excellent.

I have stayed here about three times so far, and each time I was in a different Room with its own unique atmosphere—every Room is wonderful. When it comes to Chusuizan, the cuisine is the highlight. Each visit, I was thoroughly satisfied with the creative dishes made with seasonal ingredients. The lounge also offers an excellent variety of items.

A stay with thoughtful touches and promise for the future

The Room has a distinctive layout, and the route to the open-air bath—going through the hallway and a Japanese-style room after showering—felt somewhat unusual. Overall, it was a calm space, but I felt the Room design may come down to personal preference. Dinner featured excellent ingredients, and I could really sense the chef’s high level of skill. The palate cleanser in particular was memorable and truly delicious. On the other hand, many dishes were highly creative; having a few more dishes that let you experience the natural flavors of the ingredients more directly would make it even more appealing. For breakfast, there was a presentation where we first tasted the miso soup broth with salt, but the intention was not very clear, and I personally would have preferred a simpler way to enjoy the broth’s aroma and flavor. Some items were also served lukewarm; with a bit more attention to temperature, it would have been even better. This kind of presentation may be especially memorable for international guests. Overall, this Accommodation reflects high-quality ingredients, strong technique, and careful attention to detail, and I hope it continues to become even more appealing in the future.

    This was my second v...

This was my second visit. While the concept of the accommodation is "never leaving you hungry," the lounge service was disappointing. The selection was limited, with dry pound cake and mediocre squid rice, and there seemed to be no replenishment or cleaning. Spills left by guests were sticky and unsightly, with food scattered around in a messy state. Upon checking in and visiting the lounge, I noticed crumbs on tables likely left by previous guests. The room appeared new but had an ammonia odor lingering in the toilet, making it unpleasant to use the adjacent sink area. Mold had grown extensively on the bathroom window frames to a noticeable degree. In a past stay at a suite in one of their group hotels, I encountered termites around bathroom windows, mold-covered spa living rooms, and discolored cypress wood in private Onsen baths—leaving an overall impression of poor hygiene across their accommodations. While I appreciate their design aesthetics and frequently use Suiyoutei Group facilities for day trips as well as stays, I feel they should prioritize cleaning and maintenance over building new facilities. The stylish designs seem impractical for long-term upkeep; if maintenance cannot be managed properly under current designs, perhaps changing architectural firms would help. During this visit to Exclamation Bakery after some time away, I found that my clothes absorbed more odor from grilled beef smells than from visiting Jozankei Shoten days earlier—a surprising issue for a bakery compared to BBQ restaurants! This could stem from either insufficient ventilation or flawed design. On a positive note: customer service has improved significantly since my last experience with this group. Vietnamese staff members worked hard with smiles despite language barriers; female staff at Renju guest rooms and Suigen Hanare were attentive; shuttle bus drivers were courteous; even during meals at Kuriya restaurant—the head chef's attentiveness stood out when other hall staff failed eye contact while we sought assistance for rice refills. Meals have also improved since our previous visit—deliciously prepared dishes enhanced our dining experience this time around! However free services like complimentary drink lounges may stretch staffing resources thinly affecting cleanliness standards elsewhere within facilities overall raising prices slightly ensuring cleaner safer stays might better align expectations delivering memorable escapes into extraordinary settings instead

    I enjoyed a comfortable stay.

The room we were guided to upon arrival, the prepared drinks and snacks, dinner and breakfast, the onsen large bath and open-air bath, private sauna, and lounge access all contributed to a comfortable stay. Dinner and breakfast were especially delightful as they were freshly prepared right in front of us, allowing us to enjoy the best flavors with both our eyes and taste buds. The dishes showcased great creativity in ingredients, colors, cooking methods, and presentation—offering an experience far beyond typical creative cuisine that was truly enjoyable. Additionally, the lounge provided drinks and light snacks from arrival until checkout for continuous enjoyment. This accommodation is best enjoyed by checking in early to fully savor everything until the 11:00 AM checkout time. With only 17 rooms available for guests aged 13 years or older, it was a very quiet and comfortable stay. The only downside was that there were no signs or indicators near the bus stop showing where the hotel is located; with no visible building nearby during snowy conditions, reaching the entrance proved slightly challenging. Overall though, this has become one of my favorite accommodations that I would love to visit again!

    Thank you for your patronage.

This was my first visit. I could see the staff working hard, but honestly, I felt there were some who could make more effort to understand guests better. I hope they continue striving for improvement. The meals were delicious. However, the breakfast setup was a bit inconvenient for me personally and challenging to manage while wearing a yukata (laughs). Thank you for taking care of me until the end of my stay.

    It was the best stay.

This is the accommodation we chose for my 86-year-old mother's long-awaited first visit to Hokkaido. It was our second stay, and as expected from their dedication to cuisine, everything was absolutely delicious, including the welcome dish of Japanese appetizers at check-in. The accommodation's decor, lounge, and especially the bath were excellent, allowing us to relax fully. Above all, we were deeply impressed by the exceptional hospitality of a woman who seemed to be the manager; her constant smile in every situation left a lasting impression. Although my mother initially thought she might never have another chance to visit again, she is already hoping for another stay at this same place. Thank you for such a wonderful experience!

It was a celebratory trip for my mother's 60th birthday and my father's 20th business anniversary. The Onsen was great, but the meals and access to the free lounge were the most enjoyable!

    Perfect for food lovers!

Having experienced exceptional hospitality at numerous accommodations, the passion for "food" at Chuzankei Sui-sen left an unparalleled impression. From the moment you arrive, their dedication is evident. The welcome drink accompanied by a beautifully crafted dish sets high expectations right away. From the tea sweets in your room to the snacks in the lounge, everything is meticulously handmade in their kitchen—there's not a single ordinary store-bought item in sight. At dinner, each dish showcased creativity and aesthetic sensibility, drawing out the full potential of Hokkaido's rich ingredients. The flavors were truly a series of delightful surprises. Watching the chefs' refined techniques unfold in the open kitchen added to this extraordinary dining experience. The staff’s warm yet unobtrusive interactions made every meal even more enjoyable. Breakfast was equally impressive, with no compromises on quality. Even something as simple as miso soup reflected the chefs' dedication, love for their craft, and confidence. The comfort of the room, breathtaking views from its windows, impeccable cleanliness throughout every corner of this accommodation, and its outstanding Onsen—all were flawless. Without question, this is my favorite accommodation that I would eagerly visit again soon.

    It was excellent.

I stayed at the accommodation last week during my summer vacation. To conclude, it was absolutely wonderful. As this ryokan focuses on cuisine, I had mixed feelings of anticipation and concern, but the meals exceeded my expectations and were incredibly satisfying. My family kept praising how delicious everything was and thoroughly enjoyed it. Many of the staff serving us appeared to be foreigners (trainees?), but their hospitality was outstanding. Their smiles were lovely, and honestly, this is the first time I’ve felt so comfortable with foreign workers. I believe this reflects excellent in-house training. This is definitely one of the ryokans I would love to visit again. Thank you very much!

    It was an excellent accommodation.

This accommodation offers satisfaction in all aspects, including service, guest rooms, onsen, and meals. I will use it again. If I may point out one thing, it was disappointing that BS channels could not be viewed on the TV. I apologize if it was due to incorrect operation on my part. Everything else deserves the highest rating.

The heating in the Room was broken, and we had to use two heaters. It was cold. The staff were all amateurs. The prior explanation was completely inadequate. This is the worst experience I've ever had.

It has become my favorite property!

The staff here are wonderful. The meals are delicious, and the quality of the onsen water is excellent. I realized that this is a top-notch property. I definitely want to visit again.

    I was satisfied.

The meals were delicious. There are various lounges, and I'm happy that I can drink beer. The large public bath was also available, so I used it almost alone. I like the main building of Suiyantei in Jozankei and use it every year, but I also liked this place. I will use it again.

A relaxing accommodation like a hidden retreat in Sapporo.

This is my second visit. It was relaxing, and I could also enjoy the large public bath of the same group Ryokan, experiencing the Onsen. The food was delicious, and I was very satisfied. I would love to visit again.

Stayed in a modern 70 sqm room with an open-air bath and a great view. The bath was excellent. While the accommodation felt slightly dated, it was within an acceptable range. Dinner was visually appealing and delicious, but breakfast was average.

    Thank you very much.

This was my second stay at Chusuiyama this year, and I truly enjoyed it. We reserved a spacious Room for a group of four women. One elderly lady was with us, and while I have stayed at various hotels in the Suizantei series, the beds are relatively low, which seemed challenging for her to get in and out of bed. If there is a Room with higher beds available, I would like to reserve that next time. The Onsen in the Room with an open-air bath was very pleasant; however, stepping up into the bath caused one of the wooden boards to tilt suddenly, making me fall into the bath. Thankfully it happened to me and not another guest, but it is quite dangerous. Please review this issue (I have already mentioned it to Hotel staff). Other than that incident, we had a very satisfying stay. The guests from Tokyo and Kyushu who accompanied me were also delighted. Thank you very much!

Delicious Creative Cuisine and Warm Hospitality

The Ryokan I had wanted to visit for a long time exceeded my expectations. The staff's smiles and attentiveness made it a pleasant day. Their attention to detail, even with the salt, was impressive, and they promptly answered any questions about the dishes, making it an enjoyable experience. Watching the cooking process up close while pairing fresh dishes with sake was perfect. It was slightly disappointing not to have the chance to talk with the head chef as mentioned. It would be wonderful if there were more greenery visible from the open-air bath area. Thank you for your thoughtful hospitality, including drinks in the Room and fruits in the lounge!

The food is exceptionally delicious, but the service is slightly disappointing.

This is my second stay at the First Group Hotel. I visited after hearing great reviews about the food, and it was as delicious as rumored. However, there was no explanation about the Diamond benefits during check-in. During dinner, it was evident that there was a staff shortage, as almost everyone except one young male staff member appeared expressionless like AI. I ordered a cake to celebrate my best friend's birthday, but unfortunately, it turned out to be the only disappointment of the dinner.
