We drove from Chiba....
We drove from Chiba. As an older couple, we chose this Onsen Accommodation so we could leave at a relaxed pace and truly unwind. It was a wonderful place that exceeded our expectations. The detached Room, the bath, and the meals were all outstanding. The meal included an impressive number of dishes, but each portion was thoughtfully sized, so even we were able to finish everything. The next day, we enjoyed the gentle Onsen three times and headed home unhurriedly. This is now on our list of places we definitely want to visit again.

Disappointing meals
Everything else was very good, so it was disappointing that only the meals fell short.

The meals were delicious.
The meals were outstanding above all. Light and delicate flavors made with dashi, not overly rich. I can’t describe how good it was, so I’m attaching photos (lol). We stayed in a two-story Room. It was beautifully maintained, and the Room had everything you could need—TV, coffee maker, kettle, massage chair, humidifier, air purifier, and more. There was also one toilet on each floor (first and second), plus an Onsen-style bath on the second floor—truly equipped with just about everything.

I was misled by the photos.
I have stayed at many Hotels overseas and Ryokan in Japan, but this is among the bottom three in terms of poor value for money. Don’t be fooled by the Reviews or photos. The toilet and the table in the Japanese-style room feel like an old guesthouse, and if you trust the photos or Reviews, you’ll be in for a nasty surprise. It’s hard not to think they are paying travel agencies or magazines listing fees to boost their ratings.

Highly satisfied!
I travel twice a year, and I first found this Accommodation last summer while looking for a place to stay for an autumn trip, but there were no vacancies. I had no choice but to book another Accommodation for that trip, yet I couldn’t give up. When I checked again, I saw availability in April, so I made a Reservation nine months in advance for my next trip—and it was a long-awaited stay. In the end, I was extremely satisfied; it was well worth the wait. The attentive service and the many exciting and impressive dishes were wonderful. The amenities were just right, and I also thoroughly enjoyed the private open-air hot spring bath in the room, with easy temperature control. That said, due to time constraints and other circumstances, even though it’s all-inclusive, it’s truly disappointing that I couldn’t fully enjoy the free drinks, foot bath, large public bath, and other services. If I have the chance, I’d love to visit again. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

This is an Accommodation I’d love to stay at again!
It was a wonderful Accommodation in every way. They kindly accommodated sudden changes due to our circumstances, to the point that we felt sorry for the inconvenience. The open-air-style bath in the Room was at just the right temperature, perfect for a long, relaxing soak. The guest Room and amenities were excellent as well. The meals were outstanding! Even when you are full, you will still want to keep eating. The tableware is beautiful too! Everything was great! We would love to stay again.

Highly satisfied
I finally got to stay at the Accommodation I had been interested in for a long time. The staff were kind and attentive, There was an unexpected issue with the large public bath boiler, but they apologized and offered complimentary drinks at dinner. The meals were delicious. However, the portions are quite large, so a Plan for guests with smaller appetites may be needed. Highly recommended.

This is the best and worst accommodation.
The rooms were spotless, clean, and comfortable; the top-class staff provided outstanding hospitality with just the right sense of distance; the in-room semi-open-air bath was also impeccably clean and relaxing; the Facilities and amenities were excellent; and every dish was superb, made with quality ingredients cooked to perfection. Among all the Onsen Accommodations I have stayed at, this was truly top-tier. However, the very first thing that greeted me at this Accommodation was the sign shown in the attached photo. That was deeply disappointing. I consider it unacceptable—something I have never seen at any other Accommodation or Hotel. Onsen resorts are often not easy to access, so traveling by car is usually unavoidable. With dinner times to consider—and wanting to enjoy the Onsen before dinner—guests naturally try to arrive around check-in time. When traveling from a city to a more rural area, it is common for a car navigation system’s estimated arrival time to become earlier as you get closer. This is not a cheap place; it can be called a first-class Accommodation. Even so, banning entry into the property entirely—including what is essentially a public space like the lobby—until check-in time was a first for me. In my experience, even chain Business Hotels that strictly enforce check-in times do not prohibit guests from entering areas such as the lobby. The person who decided to post that sign—and management who approved it—are, putting it very mildly, “the worst.” As someone who has worked in service for many years, I personally do not think they should call themselves part of the hospitality industry.

Thank you for your support.
This was my second stay, and I was able to relax in the same Room as last time. It was quiet, and from the Room I could see the river flowing so close that even the colors of the ducks’ feathers as they swam looked beautiful—an excellent Room with nothing to complain about. The staff were also wonderful, and it’s an Accommodation that makes me want to come back. The meals were delicious, but there was simply too much food and I ended up leaving some, which was disappointing. Toward the end, after the gratin, I couldn’t touch the thick tantan udon or the rice with nameko mushrooms. I feel I could have eaten a lighter udon to finish instead. It felt like several heavy dishes in a row, which was a shame. Breakfast was delicious and I finished everything, so I only wish there had been some choice in that regard. It’s a great Accommodation, and I can only hope it will offer options that suit guests of all ages.

Revisited after a year
I stayed at this Accommodation around the same time last year and really liked the atmosphere and hospitality, so this time I booked a Multiple Night Stay. Once again, it was a very satisfying trip. Unfortunately, it rained on the second day so I decided not to go out, but that allowed me to relax even more. I hope you will continue to maintain the attentive level of quality felt throughout the entire Accommodation.

40th Wedding Anniversary Trip
We stayed here for the first time to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. From the welcome drink and sweets on arrival, we were impressed from the very start, and throughout our stay the comfort exceeded our expectations. The Room was easy to use, and we felt truly refreshed both body and mind in the open-air bath, which was outstanding in both size and water quality. Dinner and breakfast were exceptionally delicious—both in taste and presentation. The extraordinary atmosphere of the lounge was especially memorable, and my companion was also delighted. This is a wonderful Accommodation worthy of a special occasion—one that truly made us want to come back again.

Are towels available for an additional fee!?
Although it was a snowy day, the staff were kind and helpful right up to the day of our stay, which was great. Dinner was also very delicious. Since it is in a separate building, the outdoor walkway was cold, but we still enjoyed the meal very much. One concern was that there was a bath mat at the entrance/exit of the shower Room, but there wasn’t one at the other spot where you can step out directly from the open-air bath. Because there was no bath mat, we used a bath towel instead. As a result, we ended up short one bath towel. When I checked the in-house information file to request another one, it said an additional towel costs either 300 or 350 yen. At this price level (around 100,000 yen), I had never experienced towels or bath mats being charged separately, so I was very surprised and it really dampened my mood. Also, there was no information about rental items such as hair irons, blankets, or other amenities available for loan, which felt unhelpful. In the shower Room, when you rinse off in the shower area, water pools on the vanity side of the floor. That water gets chilled by towels and becomes extremely cold—it was awful. Even when trying to step out after showering, you have to step into that cold water. The next person would also have to step into it as well, so during colder seasons it makes you not want to use it. I felt this is a Room best avoided in winter.

Jackpot Day
We happened to find availability at an accommodation we had been interested in for a while, so our stay was rather last-minute. Overall, we were extremely satisfied with the experience—excellent service, delicious meals, and the best Onsen! Above all, the "perfect amount of snow" created an amazing atmosphere and scenery that my wife absolutely loved. While we were very happy with our stay, here are a few points that caught our attention (just personal opinions): <Check-in> The explanation states that "you cannot enter the lobby before 3 PM." However, since the actual check-in process takes some time, we couldn't enter our room until after 3:30 PM. While I understand there may be reasons for this, perhaps it could be adjusted so guests can access their rooms by 3 PM? <Room> We chose a Western-style room because we're sofa lovers. If possible... it would have been nice if the sofa was just a bit larger—though I know that's quite a luxurious request! <Dinner> The dinner overall was incredibly delicious and showcased local ingredients from Nasu-Shiobara wonderfully. However... regarding the order of dishes: by the time we were getting full during our meal, dishes like "soy milk gratin," "soy milk tantan udon," and "milk pudding" came out as part of what felt like an overload of dairy-based items. Each dish was tasty on its own but felt overwhelming for both our stomachs and minds at that point! We ended up leaving some food behind despite how good it tasted—we're sorry about that... Perhaps if one of these dishes had come earlier in the course sequence, it might have been easier to enjoy fully. That said—the service was fantastic; our room was cozy; and above all else—the Onsen paired with snowy views made for an unforgettable experience. This impromptu trip to Shiobara turned out to be absolutely perfect! Despite writing down various thoughts here—we definitely want to stay again! *P.S.: Apologies—I forgot about putting away the night snack (chimaki) left in the fridge.*

A Ryokan Worth Revisiting
I previously stayed at "Shikimitei Fujiya" and had an amazing experience, so I decided to try this sister Ryokan. Both were absolutely fantastic. The Onsen and the food were perfect. I will visit again!

A quiet and relaxing accommodation for your satisfaction
A relaxing stay at the accommodation after a long time. Unfortunately, I felt unwell upon arrival and had to rest on the bed in my room right after check-in. However, the bed was so comfortable and cozy, and the warm room provided allowed me to rest well. The maisonette-style room had a bedroom on the second floor, separate from the living area, making it quiet and peaceful. Thankfully, I recovered enough to head to dinner at the dining area. To my surprise, it was filled with all my favorite dishes: trout marinated in salt koji, local cheese served in JAL First Class flights, yuba with sashimi including striped jackfish (shima-aji), medium fatty tuna (chutoro), sea urchin (uni), and more. If only I were feeling better—I could have finished everything! Instead, most of it went to my partner while I enjoyed what little I could. The wood-fired sauna was delightful (though it's a pity there wasn’t a cold bath available in December). We relaxed by roasting marshmallows over an indoor fireplace while enjoying complimentary alcohol. I thoroughly enjoyed both the large public Onsen baths and our private bathroom multiple times during our stay. From our room’s window, we watched herons catching fish in the river during daylight hours and admired a sky full of stars at night. Swaying gently on a hammock as my health improved made me wish for another night’s stay—and thanks to last-minute discounts—we extended for one more night! Mornings were blissful with breakfast followed by morning baths paired perfectly with coffee. Taking moments just gazing at waterfalls from our room or jotting down memories into notebooks brought immense relaxation. The staff showed great care for my condition throughout our stay—offering additional services when we extended—and even waved us off until we were out of sight upon departure. Their kindness left such an impression; they truly excelled in hospitality. Accommodations within this price range often divide opinions based on personal preferences—but for someone like me who values quietness (construction quality & facilities) above all else followed closely by bed comfort—it’s rare not finding faults anywhere! This time though? No complaints whatsoever—what luck! As someone who worked previously within travel agencies staying monthly across Ryokans domestically or indulging frequently overseas—including urban hotel stays—I wholeheartedly recommend this place without hesitation if you're considering booking here yourself! I’ll definitely return again someday during another season!

It was a wonderful accommodation where you can experience something extraordinary.
The maisonette room features a high ceiling with a fan and floor-to-ceiling glass windows offering views of the river and lush greenery. Guests can relax on the terrace with a hammock while listening to the sound of the river or enjoy the footbath at the adjacent sister accommodation. The meals were delicious, and we greatly appreciated that our request to substitute crab shabu-shabu for beef was accommodated in advance. One minor disappointment was that all frosted glass windows, including those in the semi-open-air bath area of the large public bath, were closed (possibly to prevent insects during certain seasons), which completely blocked any view of the outside scenery. We were unsure if it was acceptable to open them ourselves. Overall, it is a clean facility with a calm atmosphere, excellent staff service, and provides a relaxing stay at this wonderful accommodation.

The meals were particularly excellent.
I stayed in the "Kiichigo" room at the end of October 2025. - The staff's guidance was clear and polite, and the accommodation had a relaxing atmosphere with incense and music throughout. - Everything was wonderful, but I was especially satisfied with the meals. Both dinner and breakfast were carefully prepared, allowing me to fully enjoy the natural flavors of each ingredient. The sukiyaki and yuba sashimi at dinner were particularly delicious. - They accommodated dietary restrictions by substituting certain items, and even though yuba sashimi is part of the standard course menu, they replaced it with other ingredients upon request when I ordered it separately—showing great flexibility and attentiveness. - I've stayed at several accommodations in a similar price range before, but this one had the best meals by far. - The room was a maisonette type with an open-air bath attached to it, featuring two sinks and two toilets for convenience. The massage chair also helped relieve fatigue, making my stay very satisfying overall. - If I had to point out one issue during my stay, there were a few stink bugs in the room that took some effort to remove; however, I’d like to think of this as part of a memorable experience too! - Overall, it was an extremely satisfying stay!

Delicious Meals!
I made a last-minute Reservation. The Room was a maisonette type, and although the stairs were a bit challenging, it was quiet and relaxing by the riverside. Above all, the food was amazing! I want to visit again!

The accommodation you wanted to visit!
I was excited to visit the accommodation I had wanted to go to for a long time. The staff's service was excellent. A few points I noticed... It would have been nice if the meals had a seasonal touch that could also be enjoyed visually. The variety of bath amenities was limited. Most of all, there was a somewhat lonely feeling... perhaps because there were no fresh flowers. Since I visit seeking an extraordinary experience, it was a bit disappointing.

It was a good Property.
Staying at the property while snow flurries. The entire property has a sense of cleanliness, and all the staff are pleasant, I felt it was operated very carefully. I used the onsen in the room bath, and as reputed, it had a nice texture on the skin; meals were delicious, making for a satisfying stay. If given the chance, I would like to revisit in a season with better weather. I sincerely hope you maintain your current quality standards.

A good property for families
The lobby, bonfire, meals, guest room open-air bath, large public bath, shuttle service vehicle, and customer service attitude were all very good and made for a pleasant stay. As for the meals, they became increasingly delicious as we moved on to the main dishes. However, I was concerned about the surface of the TV stand in the room being worn out and that the TV looked small because of how large the stand was. I think this is a minor point of criticism but without it, this property would be perfect.

A Property for Relaxation
This was my first time using Kaedeoto. Each Room is an independent building, and the private open-air Onsen is of a suitable size, allowing you to spend a relaxing time. The cuisine and tableware are exquisite, and I found a great Property in Shiobara Onsen. I will visit again.
