    Worth the Journey

    It takes over 6 hours one way, but it's worth coming back. Despite some restrictions, it is valuable to have accommodations where pets can stay in almost the same room and receive similar services as regular guests. The lounge service, dinner, and breakfast with a view of the outside offer truly extraordinary and wonderful moments. The room's bath is an Onsen, surprisingly spacious enough to stretch your legs. The only concern is that the room's air conditioning cannot switch between cooling and heating, which might be a bit worrisome during seasonal transitions.

    We stayed with our grandchild during the summer vacation. As soon as we parked the car, a staff member came out to help carry our luggage, which was very helpful since it was raining. However, we noticed that the area near the entrance door had not been cleaned, which made us a bit concerned. The check-in process was handled very kindly, and they were attentive to our child's allergy needs. We had reserved a room with an onsen, but initially felt uncomfortable due to the humidity in the room. For such a small space, it might be more comfortable without an onsen. A sofa instead of floor cushions would also have been preferable. The hotel seems to have undergone renovations; however, the public bath felt slightly outdated and overall ceilings were low throughout. While the room itself was well-cleaned, details like dusty elevator doors gave off an odd impression despite otherwise good maintenance by staff. Perhaps due to its location in Hakuba, we found the accommodation fee somewhat expensive. Meals were served as a half-buffet style for summer vacation season. Breakfast offered many options and even our child with allergies could enjoy choosing from various dishes and seemed satisfied overall.

    One of the few Hotels where you can stay with pets.

    This is my second stay following last autumn. As I mentioned before, in Japan, most accommodations that allow pets are pensions or lodges. Courtyard is one of the few hotel-style accommodations where you can stay with pets. Although it’s located at the far end of the area, the room and hallway access are comparable to regular accommodation areas. The room features a spacious bathtub with onsen water (not an open-air bath), making it very comfortable. However, with only tatami mats and floor chairs with cushions, there isn’t much space for humans to relax comfortably. The restaurant offers enjoyable meals and ambiance. It’s also nice that à la carte options are available at night. This time as well, I was able to use the lounge in the evening, which had a great selection of drinks and light snacks—very enjoyable. It’s unfortunate that coming from Shiga makes it quite far and difficult to visit often. If it were closer, I’d love to come every season. I hope rooms will be made available for stays with pets even during snowy seasons!

    Unfortunately, this time didn't work out.

    I stayed for 4 nights, but during the first 2 nights, the bath temperature was lukewarm, making me wonder if it was intentionally lowered for longer soaks. However, on the third night, it became almost like cold water. At around 10 PM, I was told they wanted to enter the room to address the issue, but since it was late at night, I requested repairs be done while I was out the next day. As a result, by the fourth night, I could finally enjoy a comfortable bath at a normal temperature. Looking back, there might have been an issue with temperature control from the beginning. The pet-friendly room has Onsen directly in it and is priced higher accordingly; however, this time I couldn't fully enjoy that benefit and felt very disappointed. Although I've stayed here several times before without issues like this one, this time I ended up using the public bath for the first time. Additionally, since there is Onsen in-room accommodation available here already—adding skincare amenities such as body cream would make stays even more comfortable! It’s something noticed every visit so far; hopefully considered soon!

    The Room is clean. The Room had tatami mats, but having chairs would be better. Being a resort, it feels slightly overpriced. The luggage cart cannot reach the front of the Room due to stairs.

    The recommended option is the Premium Twin with Onsen.

    This was my second stay, and I chose the Premium Twin with Onsen again. The large cut-stone bathtub allows you to enjoy the Onsen 24/7, making it my favorite. I had both dinner and breakfast, enjoying local specialties, and the restaurant's atmosphere was absolutely wonderful. The lounge service offered a variety of alcohols, salmon, cheese, nuts, and more—all highly satisfying. The General Manager and all hotel staff were full of hospitality—truly living up to Marriott's reputation. Thank you for an amazing stay. I hope to visit again when the cherry blossoms are in bloom!

    Hotel where you can stay in a regular Room with pets

    In Japan, unlike in Western countries, when traveling with pets, most accommodations are in separate lodges or rooms that are completely isolated from regular guests and are significantly inferior in quality. However, there are partitions, and pet-friendly rooms are located at the end of the hotel, but they offer the same level of rooms and environment as regular stays. The atmosphere of the restaurant, the staff's response, and their attentiveness were also wonderful. The only issue is that the pet pee pads are only available in very small sizes. I wanted to visit in winter, but it's unfortunate that reservations for the ski season cannot be made at all from the reservation site.
