    Delicious meals!

    The creative Japanese-style meals were excellent. Staying with no meals included would be a waste. We recommend booking accommodation with two meals per night.

    The bath is wonderful, but the dinner is disappointing.

    The bath was adjustable in temperature and very pleasant, and the service was sufficient. I was happy that my Room was upgraded to the second floor. However, the air conditioning in the Room did not work, so I think it should be fixed before summer. It did not cool at all—perhaps a gas leak? Fortunately, on the day of my stay, it was cool outside, so I managed with a screen door. As for meals, dinner was disappointing. Strangely enough, it had a high carbohydrate content. There were only two types of sashimi with five slices total; inexplicably cold soba noodles were served before the main dish; there were two meat dishes for some reason—an odd menu composition overall. The beef shabu-shabu came with red miso soup, pickles, and seasoned rice that tasted too strong. The rice itself was soggy and unappetizing; if you're using an earthen pot to cook rice anyway, plain white rice would have been better with shirasu (whitebait) served separately as a topping instead of mixed in. The dessert also wasn’t good—the hard barley topping should be reconsidered as even someone like me without weak teeth found it difficult to eat. Perhaps this is just my personal preference but since breakfast tasted fine as is traditionally prepared Japanese food featuring local specialties from Oita might make dinner more enjoyable than experimental fusion cuisine!

    I stayed here before...

    I stayed here before giving birth. The room was very lovely and relaxing. (As mentioned in other reviews, the building's aging was noticeable, and it felt more like a luxury lodge than a luxury hotel, but I personally liked how it blended with nature.) I had reserved a Japanese-style room on the first floor but was upgraded to the second floor. Additionally, there was a reclining sofa which was very helpful for me as an expectant mother—thank you for your thoughtfulness. The onsen allowed me to enjoy at my own pace, and the meals were deliciously prepared using plenty of local ingredients, making for a rich experience. The staff were knowledgeable and shared insights about Beppu; chatting with them was enjoyable. I hope to return again with my child once they grow older!

    Battling Stink Bugs in the Private Open-Air Bath

    There were several aspects that did not meet the price, so I decided to share my thoughts. The service and meals were excellent and left nothing to be desired. ＼What bothered me was the room and facility／ ● Lack of cleaning There was leftover trash in small areas, and after cleaning the toilet? There was paper left inside the bowl. Not only in the room but also in other areas, there were places where cleaning was insufficient. Please take a look for yourself if you stay here. ● Many insects in the room This might be due to seasonal or locational factors, but I hope some measures can be taken. Small insects are tolerable, but finding a stink bug in the open-air bath was quite unpleasant. I ended up battling it while completely naked, eventually winning and flushing it down the drain; however, with a mix of stink bug odor and Onsen smell lingering around me, I soaked in discomfort for a while. ● Other issues: - Doors do not close properly due to aging - Amenities and towels are at business hotel level - Only one trash bin located in the bathroom area of the room - The futon bedding is not very comfortable My partner is not someone who gets upset over such things, so that helped; however, as this place was chosen after much thought for celebrating my partner’s special occasion, it turned out to be quite disappointing for me. I will never use this place again nor recommend it to anyone considering staying here now. For similar prices, there are plenty of better options available elsewhere. That’s all—good luck with your improvements!

    Honeymoon

    The hospitality from the reception was excellent and very courteous! They upgraded our room for our honeymoon, allowing us to stay in a fantastic room with an outstanding location! The bath was clean both in the Room and the large public bath, allowing us to fully enjoy Beppu Onsen!! The massage in the Room was also provided by very kind people, which was soothing! Each dish at the meal was explained carefully, and it was impressively delicious!

    Terrace house with great views and delicious cuisine

    I decided to make a Reservation at a lovely Property where I could fully enjoy the Onsen atmosphere during my business trip to Beppu. Since all Properties in Beppu offer natural flowing Onsen, I searched for a Property with delicious cuisine and great views. Although I thought it might be quite far from the station, I wasn't planning to visit the downtown area and preferred a cozy Property, so I chose Terrace Midobaru. I took a taxi from Beppu Station and was surprised not by the distance but by the steep uphill road. The front desk staff provided a very pleasant experience. The building is wooden, so I had to be careful about footsteps, and since the Room itself is on three levels, I was mindful of walking inside. Each Room has a semi-open-air bath with Onsen water, which was very comfortable. There is a large communal bath, but the bath in the Room was more than satisfying. For meals, I chose the "Seki-Aji Sashimi and Black Wagyu Beef Creative Kaiseki" Plan, and I was satisfied with both the quantity and quality. Drinks were charged separately, but the prices were comparable to vending machines, so even heavy drinkers could enjoy them with minimal additional cost. Since I stayed for two nights, the menu was changed for the second night, and the meal was even better than the first night, leaving me extremely satisfied. The pathways from each Room to the front desk and restaurant are exposed to the outside air despite having roofs, so I thought it might be cold. However, thanks to the Onsen, my body stayed warm and comfortable. While grand Hotels are nice, I strongly recommend this cozy Property for those who prefer a more intimate stay.

    Because it is a terrace...

    As the name "Terrace" suggests, it is neither a Hotel nor a Ryokan. As a Property, the view is wonderful. The breakfast was decent (not just the rice balls mentioned in the Review, but more substantial). If I had to point out a downside, since it's a wooden structure, you can hear sounds and voices from other Rooms more than in a Hotel. Also, rather than an outdoor corridor, the Rooms are located outside, so you need to be well-prepared in winter. The private bath in the Room offers the rare Beppu onsen water at its natural temperature. This means you need to wait for it to cool down or dilute it with water (which feels wasteful) to enjoy it properly. Understanding this, it is a wonderful Onsen Stays (Terrace). The staff were also kind. Thank you very much.

    Not worth the price!

    It was a three-day, two-night stay. The meals were satisfactory for dinner on the day of check-in and breakfast the next morning, but the breakfast on the morning of check-out was a poor offering of two rice balls and Inaniwa udon. A male staff member said, "Thank you for the Multiple Night Stay," but it seemed like their actions didn't match their words. At check-out, there were two male staff members, but there were no words like "Thank you" or "Take care." The service was very poor. The large public bath had only three faucets, and when three foreign guests came in, I left quickly. The slippers that were neatly arranged were in disarray when I left, which made me feel very uncomfortable. Despite all this, the response of the three female staff members during the stay left a good impression and became the only memory of Beppu Onsen. At check-out, only one female staff member came outside to see me off. I would like to give five stars to all the female staff members.

    You can relax in the Room.

    Stays located on the hill in Beppu, you will need to drive through some narrow roads, but it was passable without any issues. The staff welcomed us at the entrance, and in the lobby, there is a system to enjoy a matcha welcome drink and watch an introductory video about the property. Personally, the view from this lobby was wonderful, and my excitement was quite high at the check-in stage. The food was all delicious, allowing you to enjoy the bounty of the sea and mountains. The portion size felt just right. The bath was also wonderful, and with unlimited access to the room bath, I think it is perfectly suited for a trip centered around the property. I stayed in a first-floor room, so I was concerned about the footsteps (children?) from the upper floor. If you want to spend your time quietly, I recommend the second floor. The staff's response was also good, and overall, I was quite satisfied.

    A wonderful adult Stays.

    This was my first stay. The smile of the staff who welcomed us was wonderful, and the staff who assisted us were very pleasant. The room with an open-air bath offered a beautiful view of Beppu Bay, and the room itself was clean and spacious. Above all, the private bath was excellent. Additionally, the meals were carefully prepared and we enjoyed them at a leisurely pace. We could also choose our favorite yukata, which was very refreshing, making it a sophisticated adult property. I would love to stay again.

    It's a lovely inn.

    The room comes with a bath, allowing you to enjoy a soak whenever you like, making it an irresistible place for hot spring enthusiasts. It's also delightful that the bath uses natural hot spring water. However, since the source water temperature is reportedly high, it might be better to add some cold water if you plan to bathe immediately upon entering the room. I prefer lukewarm water, so I opened the lid and let it cool down before using it. I've heard that fresh hot spring water is better, so I'm not sure whether it's better to add water and bathe quickly or to wait without adding water. The bath lid is heavy and difficult to remove, so I thought it would be better for women or shorter people to have the staff remove it in advance. The room is generally comfortable, but I wished there was a sofa or something like a beanbag chair. Sitting on the floor chair and low chair made my bottom sore and my legs tired, which was a bit disappointing. Both dinner and breakfast used ingredients from Oita Prefecture, and the staff provided detailed explanations when serving, allowing us to fully enjoy Oita. The taste was also good, and we were satisfied. However, I felt there were a lot of soups. I thought it might be due to seasonal or ingredient-related reasons, but I was a bit concerned that people with small appetites might feel full early on. P.S. It might be surprising, but as a smoker, I was very grateful to have a room where I could smoke on the terrace. Nowadays, everywhere is non-smoking. It actually became one of the points when choosing a place to stay.

    This is an accommodation for adults to enjoy.

    The view is outstanding as it is located on a hill, offering sights of both the sea and the mountains. With a limited number of rooms, the lobby, restaurant, and bath are all pleasantly uncrowded. It is recommended for those who want to spend their time leisurely. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and the view from the balcony was superb. Moreover, the food was visually stunning and delicious. The bath was also very relaxing. The staff, though young, were competent and maintained an appropriate distance while still responding properly to our requests. Additionally, their approach was not overly business-like, allowing us to forget about everyday life. Thank you very much.
