    It was very good.

Since we didn’t rent a car this time, we traveled by bus from Hakodate Station, but it was only a 3-minute walk from Tropical Botanical Garden-mae, so it wasn’t inconvenient at all. A friend said the interior and the Room were far better than you’d ever imagine from the exterior. I believe I made a Reservation for the cheapest Room type, but to my surprise we were upgraded to what seemed like one of the best Rooms. It was a wonderful, spacious Room with a very comfortable sofa where we could truly relax. If I have the chance to visit again, I’d like to make a Reservation for the best Type A Room. I was looking forward to enjoying sparkling wine in the lounge, Hakodate milk soft-serve ice cream, and Misuzu Coffee—and they even had watermelon as well, which made me really happy. The soft-serve was unbelievably delicious. I don’t usually drink coffee, but Misuzu Coffee is so good that I decided to have it while in Hakodate. Being able to enjoy it as many times as you like until 10:00 p.m. is much appreciated—though my friend mentioned that in the morning there was only Misuzu Coffee. The bath is available even late at night, which is also very helpful. Even if you fall asleep after dinner and drinks, it’s great to be able to wake up and take a bath during the night. Dinner was an omakase sushi course that included fugu tatsuta-age; between the tuna selections and seasonal sushi, everything was satisfying and enjoyable. Breakfast was a buffet with plenty of options—I especially loved the soup curry. Overall, I think this is an excellent Accommodation with courteous front desk staff and a very positive impression. Just one thing: many Hotels these days provide deodorizing sprays, but I’m sensitive to fragrances—so I would prefer not having them in the Room or used during bed-making.

Is all-you-can-eat sushi just an urban legend?

I stayed here because it was advertised (in posts) that you could eat sushi until you were full, but there is no such explanation or notice displayed anywhere. When a staff member asked me at the end, “How was it?”, I could only reply, “It was delicious.” I couldn’t bring myself to ask, “It wasn’t enough—wasn’t refills supposed to be free?” Other reviews say that some guests are told, “Refills are free,” but the AI-like replies from the Hotel owner do not address this at all. Is this an unspoken perk only for certain high-paying guests? I was very disappointed. The bath water is lukewarm. The men’s and women’s baths alternate, but one outdoor bath is extremely small—about 1 tatami mat—and the other is about 2 tatami mats. It may be the smallest in the Yunokawa area. Also, the welcome sparkling wine turns into nothing but carbonation by evening. The wine is not replenished. I will never go again!

    It was quiet and nice.

With only a small number of guests, there was very little walking required, which was great even for my elderly mother. We were also able to enjoy dinner at a relaxed pace, which was wonderful.

Our whole family was very satisfied.

About 10 days ago, I stayed here on a business trip and told my family after returning home that it was a wonderful Accommodation. They said they wanted to go too, so we quickly made a weekend Reservation and visited. Although we came from Tokyo, if you wake up a bit early, Hakodate is just a quick flight away. We did some sightseeing in the morning and then checked in. Right away, we enjoyed as much of the recommended authentic soft-serve ice cream as we wanted in the lounge. The Onsen and breakfast made for such an enjoyable stay that time flew by. The size of the property feels just right, and it’s especially recommended for anyone who wants to relax at an unhurried pace. We would love to stay again.

    It was a wonderful stay.

My business trip felt like it turned into a truly wonderful getaway. The size of the property was just right, and using the lobby lounge and the Onsen Facility was comfortable and stress-free. Next time, I would love to stay here with my family. The only issue was that I bumped my toes several times on the corner of the bed frame in the Japanese-style room. I hope there may be a good way to improve this. I would appreciate your consideration.

    Beloved Warabihako Hakodateya

This is our second stay at Emohakodateya this year. The breakfast buffet, Onsen, Room, and all the staff are truly wonderful. We feel at home here, as if it were our own vacation house. We will come back again. Thank you very much for helping with our forgotten item.

Duct tape on the tatami mats

I’d been wanting to visit at least once, and I finally got to stay here. However, the tatami in the Room had several spots reinforced with duct tape. The bed frame was also reinforced with tape. I was shocked. I was looking forward to dinner, but while the ingredients were fresh, the rice was pressed hard like conveyor-belt sushi. Disappointing. The bath was clean and nice, but overall it was a disappointing Hotel.

    The hot water is excellent.

A cozy accommodation. The compact size means less walking, making it easy to access the onsen, go out, or reach dining areas. Check-in and check-out are done via machines, while keys are received and returned at the front desk. Even if you're unfamiliar with the machine operation, the staff at the front desk will assist you without any inconvenience. The facility is clean throughout. There’s a free drink corner available for both overnight guests and day-use onsen visitors, offering sparkling wine, coffee (delicious Misuzu coffee), and unlimited soft-serve ice cream—a delightful surprise! The onsen features natural hot spring water directly from the source with no added water—an excellent quality bath. It’s impressive that there’s no chlorine added; instead, it offers a rich saline spring that leaves you warm and relaxed. Just soaking in this water is worth it! Since it wasn’t crowded during our stay, we enjoyed a leisurely breakfast. It was just enough for us as we don’t eat much anymore due to our age. Above all else—the hot spring is amazing!! This is undoubtedly its best feature!

    It was excellent.

It had been a while since I stayed at a Ryokan instead of a Hotel, but both the meals and the Onsen were fantastic! The breakfast buffet was amazing with delicious seafood, curry, and freshly grilled steak. Next time, I’d love to include dinner as well. The Onsen with an open-air bath was so relaxing, and enjoying complimentary soft-serve ice cream and drinks in the lobby after bathing was truly soothing. All the staff were friendly and kind with warm smiles. The Room was a calming Japanese-style space that helped me unwind completely. Thank you very much! I would definitely love to stay here again when visiting Hakodate!

    A wonderful anniversary

We used the facility for our wedding anniversary. The Onsen and Room were very clean and nice. The sushi course for dinner was particularly delicious, and we were very satisfied! Since there are not many rooms, it was not noisy, allowing us to spend a relaxing time, making it a wonderful wedding anniversary.

    I slept well.

I usually only stay at hotels, so it had been a while since I stayed at a Ryokan. At first, I was confused by the room with steps that was not barrier-free, but I got used to it. The Onsen and futon were especially nice, and I slept well. Above all, I was grateful for that. The staff were all kind and accommodating. The free soft serve ice cream and coffee were delicious, and overall it was very reasonable. The meals were also delicious.

    Reasonable Hotel

The Hotel is located slightly off the main street, along the river. The Room is spacious, and although there is no work desk, there is a table and chairs. Cleaning is not an issue. The bath is changed between 4 to 5 AM, with the front side being larger, but the back side has a lukewarm bath. The clear water, which has a slight saltiness, warms you up well. For breakfast, there is tuna, octopus, flatfish, and salmon roe, and although the meat is thin, they will grill a steak for you upon order. Considering the accommodation price, it can be said to be a very good value Hotel. The wifi speed was decent, but since there is no password setting, there is a slight concern about using it for work.

    Satisfied with Hakodate

Check-in was easy and straightforward. The room was well-cleaned and comfortable. The bath was well-maintained, with a continuous flow of hot spring water, and the water was nice. Breakfast included local specialties and freshly grilled steak, which was delicious. Unnecessary aspects of traditional inns were removed, allowing for a reasonable price. The lack of a view didn't matter since it was just for sleeping. I would like to stay here when I visit Hakodate.
