    It was a peaceful es...

    It was a peaceful escape surrounded by greenery that made us forget the heat and bustle of the city. The delicious, creative Italian cuisine and wine were outstanding. We are grateful to the staff for their warm welcome. We would love to visit again in a different season.

    We stayed here to celebrate my wife’s birthday.

    We were able to check in before 3:00 PM and relax in our Room until dinner time. A male staff member (a sommelier trainee) kindly explained and guided us around the Facility, but we were a little surprised that the female staff member accompanying him entered our Room wearing outdoor shoes. When it was time for the meal we had been looking forward to, we went down to the dining room at 6:00 PM as instructed by the Facility and had dinner. The food itself wasn’t particularly memorable, but it was disappointing that dishes were served so quickly—new plates kept coming even though we hadn’t finished eating yet. Since there were two other groups besides us, they may have been serving all guests at the same pace. We ordered two bottles of wine, so we would have preferred a more relaxed dining experience. Also, as it was my wife’s birthday, I would have appreciated it if her dishes could have been served first whenever possible. That said, the warm welcome at check-in and send-off at check-out from the male staff member were very pleasant. I’m not sure whether we will return, but if we have another opportunity, I would like to be served during meals by him as well. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

    For future reference

    This was our fourth stay. As always, it’s a wonderful Accommodation and the meals are exceptionally delicious! I’d like to share something I noticed again, as I did last time. Regarding the dinner service timing: while we were still eating the first course of the full-course meal, the palate-cleansing sorbet was served. Dinner had just started, and it didn’t feel like we were running that late—only about an hour in. I understand timing can be difficult, but it felt rushed, which was disappointing. This is the same impression I had during our previous stay. Also, we rented two buildings and were asked whether we would be going back and forth between them, and if so, whether they should leave the lights on so we could pass through. Of course we would go back and forth—especially since it was still in the 8 p.m. hour. If lights will be turned off or doors locked at a certain time (e.g., 9 p.m.), explaining that in advance would be easier to understand. That said, we were very satisfied overall and are looking forward to staying again next time.

    An Accommodation I’d Love to Stay at Again

    I stayed in the log cottage. It didn’t quite reach the “spending time completely wrapped in the forest” feeling I had imagined, but overall I was satisfied. Next time, I would definitely like to stay at Hira Bettei. It feels closer to my ideal of sleeping in the middle of the woods. I’ve been searching around Kansai, and so far this Accommodation seems closest to what I’m looking for. The residence you showed us during its pre-opening was truly wonderful. This is just my personal wishful thinking, but if it becomes a No Meals Included residence, I’d love to enjoy a Multiple Night Stay—something like 3–7 nights—feeling as if I were staying at a private villa. In that case, though, my budget… At the prices currently listed on your website, it would be a bit tough for No Meals Included. Then it might feel like, “Why not just do two nights at Hira Bettei?” instead. Also, regarding the gazebo-style building you said will be developed in the future—I’m imagining things on my own here—but it would be amazing if it became a place to enjoy breakfast or afternoon tea in the forest, or perhaps even a footbath where you can soak your feet while sitting by the stream. I think this is an Accommodation that will perfectly suit those who resonate with the owner’s concept and strong attention to detail. I’d love to visit again.

    It was a wonderful, extraordinary experience.

    This was our first visit, recommended by a friend. After three years, we were finally able to make a Reservation and visited as a couple. We enjoyed a wonderful escape from everyday life, with time passing at a relaxed pace, and we were very satisfied. Ideally, we should have stayed for 2–3 nights to fully enjoy our time off, but we’ll save that for next time. The food and hospitality were excellent—we were completely satisfied.

    To celebrate both my...

    To celebrate both my birthday and White Day, my husband told me, “Go ahead and make a Reservation anywhere you like!” So we chose the log cottage at Auberge Maison. We played a round at nearby Hira Golf in the morning, checked in in the evening, relaxed in the beautifully furnished log cottage, and then enjoyed an Italian course dinner at a leisurely pace. The dining room also had a lovely view of the garden through large windows, which made the food taste even better. Since my husband has a dairy allergy, we truly appreciated your accommodation. The bath was a large jacuzzi as well, and soaking slowly helped ease our post-golf fatigue. Breakfast was a Japanese set meal—another highlight for us. Every single dish was delicious. We’ve stayed at many auberges, but this one was our favorite by far, so we’d love to return again.

    A gift of doing nothing time

    We stayed here to celebrate my husband’s birthday. In the main building annex, we enjoyed both breakfast and dinner served in our Room, and were able to spend a very relaxing and peaceful time—completely satisfied. The staff’s thoughtful attention to detail was truly pleasant, and we had a wonderful stay. Thank you very much. There are few Accommodations I want to return to, but I would love to visit again in a different season!

    We had another special day this year.

    We have been visiting every Christmas season as a family for the past few years. Upon checking in and entering the room, seeing Dean Bowen's impressive painting always brings us happiness and a sense of returning. The serene atmosphere allows us to forget daily life, relax, enjoy delicious meals, and savor quiet nights. While there is comfort in the unchanging aspects of our stay, there have been significant changes as an auberge—such as the shift from French to Italian cuisine when we visited during summer after the chef changed, and this year’s breakfast transitioning to Japanese-style. Although I missed the soup I looked forward to being replaced by miso soup at breakfast, everything was thoughtfully prepared and delicious—a positive change overall. One personal note is that I found the mattress too firm for my preference, which was slightly disappointing. While it may be a matter of individual taste, it would be wonderful if it could be more comfortable. We look forward to visiting again next year with our family!

    Autumn Foliage Journey

    It was my first stay, so I was a bit anxious, but the staff at the accommodation were all kind, and the food was delicious, making it an enjoyable girls' night stay. The room was spacious with plenty of books and a CD player to listen to music, allowing for a relaxing time.

    A cozy retreat stay in a quiet environment, perfect for relaxing with your pet.

    We stayed for one night in a detached log cottage with our entire family and our beloved dog to celebrate a special occasion. The area was quiet with very little traffic, and although the weather kept us indoors, we had an incredibly comfortable stay. Since we were traveling with a pet, both dinner and breakfast were served in the Room. Thanks to the heartfelt service, we never felt inconvenienced at all. The meals, made with locally sourced ingredients, were simple yet carefully prepared and perfectly portioned—everything was delicious. The tableware, featuring works by local artists, added a unique touch and delighted us visually as well. Our dog also relaxed comfortably and behaved wonderfully throughout the stay. Thank you so much to everyone at Auberge Maison for taking such great care of us!

    A Stunning Log House!

    It was a very impressive log house that must have taken considerable effort to build, and renting the entire property allowed for a relaxing and carefree stay. The staff were friendly, which was great up to this point. However, I had high expectations due to IKYU's high ratings, which led to some disappointment. There was no welcome drink. The lobby beverages were limited to Nescafé and lemon water. The fridge only contained water. While the bathroom was spacious and well-designed, amenities were minimal—just a toothbrush and a small scrub towel. Despite the excellent shower room, drainage was poor (possibly clogged with dog hair?). Having the TV placed on the floor is not acceptable. As for the dinner course I had been looking forward to—the menu structure showed promise but overall tasted too salty. Additionally, while the menu featured an image of wine grape juice in a bottle, what arrived at my table was served in a glass instead—quite surprising! There seems to be significant room for improvement overall.

    This is my third stay.

    This time, we stayed with our pet again. It’s always wonderful no matter how many times we visit. The food is excellent as always, and this time we stayed in a log cottage. The Facility was well-equipped, and above all, being able to stay with our pet is fantastic. We look forward to visiting again next year. Thank you very much!

    Delicious Cuisine and Relaxing Moments

    Turn left onto the side road right after exiting National Route 161, but be careful not to miss it! There’s no large signboard, so pay attention. Dinner is served at 6 PM and breakfast at 8 AM. With a maximum of five groups per day, you can enjoy a relaxed stay. The Italian course meals were all delicious, and the staff were friendly yet polite, making for a pleasant experience. We requested Omi beef fillet—it was incredibly tender and made the trip worthwhile. For those who enjoy alcohol, there’s a wide selection of drinks that pair perfectly with the meals. Breakfast has recently changed to Japanese-style cuisine, which was also delightful. The Room named "Hira Bettei" has a Japanese-style name but is actually a log house. The Room was clean and furnished with carefully selected furniture for comfort. Amenities are eco-friendly and recyclable in consideration of Lake Biwa's environment—a thoughtful touch we appreciated. On your way back, consider leaving early in the morning to visit Biwako Terrace (about 15 minutes away) for breathtaking views! The temperature at the mountaintop is slightly cooler by several degrees—perfect for an elegant getaway experience!

    We visited to enjoy a relaxing meal together after a long time. After checking in at the reception counter of the dining area, we carried our own luggage to the Room. The Room had a comfortable sofa and was clean, which was great. The meals we were looking forward to were thoughtfully prepared, with each dish having distinct flavors that we enjoyed. Personally, I loved the handmade croissants served at breakfast—they were delicious. The staff members were friendly, and we enjoyed chatting with them as well. Thank you for taking care of us!

    I used this place for a proposal.

    I used the log cottage for the purpose of a proposal. The log cottage was an even more wonderful space than the photos on the website, with great attention to detail in furniture and decor, creating a very relaxing atmosphere. Thanks to Auberge Maison's full cooperation, I was able to successfully propose! The log cottage is a private space rented as a whole unit, and in-room dining is also available. Every dish was delicate and absolutely delicious. I upgraded to Omi beef fillet for the meat, and it was exceptional! In the morning, I visited the library to borrow books and CDs, which I enjoyed in my Room. The staff were incredibly kind, allowing us to have an amazing two days! Next time, I'd love to stay in another Room as well. Thank you so much!

    An Auberge You'll Want to Visit Again

    I had always wanted to stay at an auberge at least once in my life, and that’s how I found Auberge Maison. The cottage we stayed in had beautiful furniture and interior design, which we absolutely loved. Borrowing books from the library and staying up late reading in the room while playing jazz music turned out to be a perfect way for us as a couple to spend our time. The flavors of the dishes matched our tastes perfectly, and the timing of each course was just right, allowing us to enjoy everything at a good pace. Next time, we’d love to stay during spring or autumn when the garden is lively. Thank you very much!

    We had a comfortable stay even with our dog.

    I stayed at Hira Bettei with my dog. The property is a spacious log house separate from the main building. There is a large window in the living room, offering a view of the beautifully lit garden, which was lovely. The bath is equipped with a jacuzzi, and the bathroom was clean and had a sense of openness. We had our meals in the room, and since each dish was brought to us one by one, it was as delicious as dining in a restaurant. The stance of the stays is "dogs are welcome," and it was very comfortable even with a dog. When traveling with a dog, you inevitably have a lot of luggage, but it was very convenient as there is a private parking space right in front of the building. Additionally, there is a sink next to the dining area, which was very helpful as we feed our dog homemade meals. The surrounding area is a villa district, making it comfortable for dog walks. I would like to visit again with my dog.

    The atmosphere of the room based on Japanese style was incredibly comfortable and relaxing. Even with small children, we could stay in an entire property, so we didn't have to worry about the surroundings. Above all, the food was incredibly delicious, reaching an unforgettable level. Strangely, there was no heaviness after the meal. In terms of details, the bedding (pajamas, futon) was extremely comfortable, and I wonder if I can buy it online. The customer service had just the right sense of distance. The cost performance was extremely good, and I definitely want to repeat my stay.

    A wonderful hideaway resort

    I wanted to eat something delicious nearby and relax, so I visited for the first time with a friend. I hardly had the opportunity to stop by Shiga (especially the Kosei area), but this auberge located in a quiet villa area between the beautiful autumn mountains and the lake was so wonderful, it felt like Karuizawa, and I was excited! It's hard to believe it's a location that can be easily reached by the special rapid train from the Osaka area. The auberge building was originally built by a foreigner, and the current owner's choice of interior and decorative items were also lovely and matched the building. The Hira Villa where we stayed had large windows, allowing us to feel as if we were in the forest. The meal was Italian with a sense of the season and area, with just the right volume, and we enjoyed the pairing with wine. It's a property I'd like to visit again in a different season. Thank you for the warm hospitality! I rated the bath a 4 because the bathtub was a bit high and wide, making it a little difficult to get in.

    Second stay

    Last time, I stayed at a log cottage and it was very nice, so this time I used the Hira Bettei. The view of the trees from the large windows was like a painting, and it was a very lovely room! The staff were very friendly and kind, making my stay comfortable. It's not quite a disappointment, but it would be nice to have basic skincare amenities. (Like single-use pouch types) It would be troublesome if I forgot my lotion... The bathroom is equipped with a heater, so I didn't feel the cold. It was also nice to have a fixed shower in addition to the movable one. Overall, it's a room where you can enjoy a slow flow of time, and it's a place I want to use many times!

    I enjoyed it.

    Located in a quiet villa area. We appreciate the consideration given to ensure that the course meal for elementary school children was enjoyable. There is a lovely dog cafe nearby, and Lake Biwa is close, allowing for a relaxing stay. Marine sports can also be easily enjoyed. Just one minor issue, the space for the room's refrigerator is sealed and not ventilated, so it doesn't cool well. It would be better to make a hole for ventilation. Other than that, there are no particular complaints, and it is a property that will surely satisfy those traveling with dogs. In terms of transportation, Route 161 always gets congested on holidays due to lane reduction and merging, so it's better to depart with plenty of time.

    We stayed in a log cottage with our family of four and a French Bulldog. We enjoyed a full dinner in a wonderfully ambient room and spent a relaxing time until late at night. Although the days are still quite warm, it was nice to take a walk in the refreshing, slightly chilly morning air. Thank you very much.

    It was an atmospheric building located on a quiet alley. The Room is simple but sufficient for a family. As expected from an auberge, the cuisine was delicious with one or two creative twists, and I enjoyed each dish with anticipation of what would come next. The staff was very attentive, and I was extremely satisfied. The breakfast was also delicious and served in an appropriate portion. Overall, I was able to spend a peaceful and relaxing time, and the conversation with my family was lively. It was truly refreshing. Thank you very much.
