    We were very satisfied.

I made a Reservation without doing much research because it looked good, and it turned out to be the perfect choice. The nostalgic charm of the Showa era is beautifully balanced with modern Facilities, making the stay extremely comfortable. All of the staff were genuinely kind and welcoming—the hospitality was outstanding. The meals were also delicious; even though I’m on a diet, I finished dinner and was completely full. Breakfast felt lighter (not small in portion), and perhaps because it was Japanese-style, my weight didn’t increase much, which was a relief. The private bath doesn’t require a Reservation—if it’s available, you can use it—so I enjoyed it twice without any hassle. Since the number of guests per day is limited, it was quiet with a calm, adult atmosphere, and I could truly relax. Thank you very much.

    Excellent!

I stayed here to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. The interior is free of anything unnecessary, embodying the "beauty of utility" from the Mingei movement. Every meal is prepared with care, and the beauty of the tableware is remarkable. Everything was simply perfect. I’ve become a devoted fan. Thank you very much, and I look forward to visiting again!

    The meals were excellent.

Built with the concept of lasting 100 years, the structure is solid and reflects the owner's dedication. However, staying in a Room on the third floor was a bit challenging, and the slippers were difficult to walk in. Although we were later told that slippers were optional, it would have been helpful to know this from the beginning. Even without slippers, the cleanliness of the property ensures comfort. The meals were incredibly delicious and creative, offering dishes unlike anything we've experienced before, served on beautiful tableware. It truly felt like the work of a professional chef! The staff provided thorough explanations, making it an enjoyable experience for the eyes, palate, and ears.

    I had a relaxing stay.

This is my third visit in four years. This time, I stayed in a detached accommodation. I enjoyed a relaxing stay in a spacious renovated room, including the Tsujido room I stayed in during my previous visit. The harmony between the new and preserved elements of the room was sophisticated and impressive. I soaked in the private onsen, enjoying beer while listening to cicadas in the evening and coffee with birdsong in the morning—completely forgetting daily life. As always, I was amazed by the delicious meals served directly to my room, allowing me to spend all my time there except for a morning walk. The hostess kindly showed me other bedrooms as well. I hope to return someday and rest in another bedroom next time. Thank you very much!

    It was a very lovely...

It was a very lovely accommodation. The room had a harmonious blend of Japanese and Western styles, surrounded by nature with the soothing sound of cicadas, allowing us to relax and enjoy the onsen at our leisure. The meals were made with seasonal vegetables, beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. I would love to stay here again.

An Accommodation You'll Want to Visit Again

Despite rising costs and labor shortages, Kanuwakan maintains an exceptional level of service through remarkable daily efforts. From the cuisine and hospitality to impeccable cleanliness, beautiful single-flower arrangements, and even the thickness of the towels, every detail reflects thoughtful care. This is a truly wonderful accommodation that brings peace to your heart during your stay.

A Gourmet Accommodation Offering a Rare Culinary Experience Even in Tokyo

From the moment you step in, you can tell this is an excellent accommodation. The spotless space reflects the high level of service. Though small, the building is a beautifully renovated piece of traditional Japanese architecture with a well-balanced design. Every meal is delicious, leaving guests fully satisfied from dinner to breakfast. Dinner features a kaiseki course, while breakfast offers a variety of side dishes served on a tray typical of an Onsen Ryokan. The Onsen, though small, opens up to a garden view that allows guests to feel the changing seasons. With few guests staying at once, it feels almost like having it all to yourself. If I had to mention one minor issue, the concrete bottom of the Onsen was slightly rough and uncomfortable when sitting for long periods. However, this is such a small detail in what is otherwise an outstanding accommodation experience!

    Wonderful!

We stayed in a separate accommodation, a newly renovated ryokan created from an old building. The room, living area, bath, and of course the meals were all wonderful. The cuisine was not extravagant but rather focused on health, offering dishes that are kind to both the body and mind—perfect for ordinary people like us who are neither gourmets nor big eaters. This exclusive ryokan has only five rooms and is managed by a young couple with their five staff members. Having visited Matsumoto many times, I can confidently say this is the best place in Matsumoto. As someone with roots in Shinshu Ueda, I found this to be the most relaxing and exceptional accommodation.

    A blissful time of healing

I enjoyed a peaceful, tranquil time. I endlessly enjoyed the firewood's flames and sounds. The furnishings were simple yet high-quality. It was my first time trying ginkgo nut soup, and it was delicious.
