    This is a Hotel I’d like to stay at every time.

    I stayed here to visit Hakodate Racecourse. I stayed last year as well and it was so good that I came back again. Among the major Hotels in Yunokawa Onsen, this one seems to be the closest to the racecourse. It’s about a 15-minute walk, and there’s also a streetcar, so it’s convenient for getting into the city. There are also a convenience store, COOP supermarket, and a drugstore nearby. In any case, there are few Rooms, so it never feels crowded. The large public bath is also quiet. The property is connected to Takubokutei, so you can use Takubokutei’s large public bath and shop as well. (Guests staying at Takubokutei cannot use Kaikyo no Kaze.) The Room is simply spacious. Even the standard type feels very comfortable. This time I chose a Room with a private bath, and the bath in this Room was excellent—spacious with great water quality. Having two sinks was also convenient. Even the tissue box was full-size like at home. The only disappointing point was that both the Room window and even the bathroom window were dirty, so I couldn’t clearly enjoy the view through them. Since I was on a high floor, cleaning the windows may be difficult, but I had been looking forward to “a panoramic view of Tsugaru Strait,” so it fell slightly short of expectations. This time I booked a Plan with dinner and breakfast included, and both meals were truly excellent. There were plenty of Hokkaido ingredients with lots of variety on the menu, plus several kinds of desserts—I ate so much that I didn’t need lunch. Meal times were scheduled in advance as well, so there was no crowding. Next year I’d like to stay here with my daughter—the three of us together. Also starting next year my son is scheduled to be transferred to Sapporo, so I’d like to recommend it to him too.

    The staff were very ...

    The staff were very kind, and even though we were traveling with children, we had no problems during our stay. The Strait Breeze bath itself is not very large, but you can also use the baths at the neighboring Takubokutei, which makes it a great overall experience.

    This is my second stay.

    I stayed here with my sister last November. This time I stayed with my daughter, and because both the meals and the in-room bath were wonderful, we decided to stay again. At check-in, there was a misunderstanding regarding the Diamond Member benefits. The first staff member who assisted us was very polite, but the staff member who checked afterward stated firmly, “This Plan is not eligible,” so I couldn’t say anything further. I understood that if you make a Reservation through IKYU and are a Diamond Member, you can use the benefits; after entering our Room and confirming in the app that we were eligible, I called the front desk and was told it did apply, so we received the benefit. Mistakes are completely understandable, but the second person at the front desk came across as somewhat intimidating, and I felt too uneasy to ask them to confirm it on the spot. Despite that start, we truly enjoyed both breakfast and dinner—creative fish dishes that were delicious. Although squid has been scarce, the squid sashimi at dinner was hands down No. 1 of all I’ve ever had. Every item from the robatayaki grill was also excellent. We also relaxed in our spacious in-room bath and fully enjoyed our Hotel stay. I was happy to be able to buy kombu again at Takubokutei’s shop connected by a corridor—the kombu we bought last time (the one displayed in the hallway) was outstanding. My sister who stayed home also asked me to get some for her; choosing this Hotel has even become partly about buying that kombu. With everything kept clean throughout and a quiet, calming atmosphere—yet plenty of ways to enjoy your stay—I think Kaikyo no Kaze is an Accommodation where you can truly enjoy a relaxing getaway.

    Spacious and relaxing

    We chose a Plan with an Onsen in the Room, and it was spacious with excellent water quality. It was very relaxing. The dinner and breakfast buffet were generally good, though a few items were disappointingly tough. The dessert pudding was especially delicious. All of the staff were very kind. This is an Accommodation we would like to visit again when we go to Hakodate.

    Disappointed

    Although it was a Japanese-Western style Room with an open-air bath, I couldn’t relax at all because there were only Western-style chairs and wooden floor chairs. When I opened the window to enjoy the view, it was dirty, and the toilet switch was broken—don’t you inspect these in advance? The open-air bath was spacious and nice, but it was disappointing that some tiles were peeling off. The hot water itself was very good. The service from the younger staff members was satisfactory, but I have stayed here several times before and this time was disappointing.

    We had a relaxing stay.

    We visited during summer vacation as a family of four. Since we chose a Room with a private bath, we were able to fully enjoy the Onsen from check-in until just before check-out. The Room was spacious, and we could relax comfortably as a family. The ocean view from the Room was also wonderful! We also enjoyed fireworks and table tennis inside the property. The after-bath lounge was calm and relaxing, and we ended up using it twice. I’d love to visit again in the colder winter season as well. One disappointing thing was that we did not receive the bottle of wine that I thought IKYU Diamond members would get. It’s partly our fault since we didn’t specifically ask, but I regret not working up the courage to confirm it.

    I wish there had been more variety and creativity in the meals.

    We stayed for a Multiple Night Stay of three nights with breakfast and dinner buffets included. The Onsen was clean, spacious, and very nice, and the Room was also good. However, unfortunately, the buffet selection was exactly the same for both breakfast and dinner all three times, so we got tired of it and by the third day we could hardly eat at either meal. We think Multiple Night Stay guests would appreciate having at least a few daily rotating dishes.

    A Hotel we’d love to stay at again—fully satisfied with both the Onsen and the meals.

    This was our first time staying here. I was a little surprised that the Hotel’s main entrance is accessed from beside Takubokutei, but once inside, a calm and welcoming atmosphere opened up, which I really appreciated. After taking the elevator up to the guest Room floor, I was first impressed by how spacious the elevator hall was. Then, upon entering the Room, I was even more surprised by its size and its refined, relaxing ambiance. We were able to unwind comfortably and had a very pleasant stay. As for the Onsen, we used Takubokutei’s bath on the first day and Kaikyo no Kaze’s bath the next morning. Takubokutei’s open-air bath felt wonderfully refreshing and open, but Kaikyo no Kaze’s large public bath was a serene space with just the right amount of natural light from outside, allowing us to relax at length—it quickly became my favorite. The seafood dishes were all delicious, and both my wife and I were very satisfied. Since it was buffet-style dining, I wasn’t sure what to expect at first, but both dinner and breakfast were high quality and exceeded our expectations. It was a wonderful Hotel that we would definitely like to stay at again when visiting Hakodate.

    First Trip to Hokkaido with My Grandchild

    This was probably my fifth stay. I brought my one-year-old grandchild with me. At dinner, you provided a kids’ set-style meal for my grandchild, even though no meals were included. There were more foreign staff than last time, but everyone did their best to speak Japanese, so there was no inconvenience. I would like to stay again.

    When I stayed here p...

    When I stayed here previously, the sushi kaiseki was so creative and delicious that I looked forward to it again this time. Perhaps the chef has changed? The style was different from what I remembered, but it was still something to enjoy with both the eyes and the palate. What stood out most was the impeccable attentiveness of the person who served us—I was truly impressed. Although they were very young and from overseas, they seemed to have gained solid knowledge of both the cuisine and sake, and their clear explanations made the meal even more enjoyable. In addition, I was able to relax in the hot Onsen in my Room, and with no overly lavish decorations, it felt like being at home. Overall, I think this is an Accommodation with excellent value for money.

    The French dinner was excellent.

    I enjoyed the French dinner in a calm setting. While Hakodate often focuses on seafood, the dishes here made the most of fresh ingredients and were beautifully prepared. Everything was delicious, and I would like to return specifically for this dinner. As for the Onsen, I preferred the side with three pot baths, so I hope both men and women can use that area without time restrictions. The entrance felt luxurious, but the Onsen changing area had a typical “Onsen Ryokan” atmosphere, which felt a bit mismatched. That said, it wasn’t inconvenient. The Room furnishings also had a nice ambiance. However, the peeling paint on the changing basket in front of the shower room detracted from that atmosphere, so I think it should be repaired.

    Terrible.

    It’s obvious the person in charge has never stayed in this Room. It’s too cold by the window to sit there. The large sofa-style chair slides when you sit on it, so it’s uncomfortable. The bed is so hard I couldn’t sleep. Worse than a cheap Business Hotel. The only good thing is the quality of the hot spring water. At just under 120,000 yen for two nights, it’s nowhere near worth the price. The little time I had with my parents was ruined. I will never stay here again.

    Service Mindset

    Our memorable trip with our beloved family was made even better by staying at this Hotel. The Room had no steps, and the private bath was spacious and comfortable. Above all, the service and smiles of the staff, who seemed to be trainees at the dining area, were truly uplifting. The apple juice is delicious! For those with concerns about mobility, this Hotel might be a suitable choice. We will visit again. Thank you very much!

    It's extremely cold.

    We were informed of a 3 PM check-in, but as the room was not ready, we were guided to the lounge. However, it was crowded, and there weren’t enough chairs. Some guests had been waiting for over an hour. Although the hotel has central air conditioning, our room was colder than the hallway, making it difficult to leave the futon. It seemed like an issue with the room's air conditioning system; next time, I would request a different room. The Onsen was almost private and very relaxing. Families with children were well-mannered, giving a high-class hotel impression. As for dining, while fresh squid wasn’t available due to poor catches this season and its freshness wasn’t ideal, creative touches in other dishes made up for it beautifully. We also enjoyed using the Onsen at Takubokutei next door and appreciated experiencing two facilities' Onsens. I hope my next stay will be stress-free and even more enjoyable!

    Consistently wonderful staff and delicious meals, no matter how many times you visit.

    The two large public baths offer a variety of Onsen, making it an enjoyable experience, and they weren't too crowded, allowing for a relaxing soak. The Room bath was perfect for spending a quiet night while soaking leisurely. For meals, we chose the Seikan Market buffet style for both breakfast and dinner. The live kitchen was delicious, and we thoroughly enjoyed the fresh fish. A staff member kindly took our photo, creating a memorable moment for the two of us. We hope to visit again someday!

    Staff Service

    The service was polite and satisfactory, but as an IKYU Diamond Member, I was supposed to receive a complimentary wine. It seemed to have been forgotten initially, as I received a call after checking out. When I returned to the Hotel to collect it, the wine provided was different from what I had requested, which left me feeling disappointed about what should have been a pleasant memory. Additionally, while the meal was advertised as a seafood buffet, there were no meat options at all, which was slightly disappointing. However, the Facility and Onsen were satisfying.

    Had a relaxing stay, thank you to everyone.

    I stayed for 2 nights and had a relaxing time. From check-in to check-out, I made full use of the time. The room was quiet and felt like home, allowing me to relax comfortably. Although having the buffet for two days in a row was a bit much, I enjoyed the shrimp sashimi provided as part of the Multiple Night Stay service—it was absolutely delicious. Overall, I was very satisfied with my stay. As a bonus, the taxi driver who took me to Hakodate Station shared many interesting stories about the history of Yukawa Onsen, Yukura Shrine, the trees behind its grounds, Takuboku's tales, and even about place names in Sakamachi. It was truly appreciated!

    The service is excellent.

    We stayed for a multiple night stay during our family trip. We have stayed in Hakodate several times, and the staff's hospitality was always excellent. Their attentiveness was remarkable, and even though it was our first time traveling with children, we felt very comfortable staying here. We would love to use this accommodation again on our next trip to Hakodate.

    Resort Vibes in Hakodate

    The room was spacious and felt like a tropical resort hotel. The hospitality was excellent, and I was pleasantly surprised by the exceptional comfort that stood out in the Yunokawa Onsen area. The cleanliness was impeccable, allowing for a very pleasant stay. Both dinner and breakfast were served as buffets. Regarding the flavors, personal taste varies, so it's hard to generalize; however, it didn’t seem like much effort was made to bring out the natural flavors of ingredients with proper stock preparation. Overall, I found the dishes on the sweeter side for my palate. That said, I thoroughly enjoyed the grilled whelk and scallops at dinner’s robatayaki station and even went back for seconds! At breakfast, I’ll never forget the taste of freshly made apple juice prepared one glass at a time using a slow juicer—it was delightful! The staff member operating the juicer had such a lovely smile as well. Additionally, both dinner and breakfast featured unlimited Hakodate Milk soft serve ice cream—a treat I highly recommend as someone familiar with local specialties. The bath area was cozy yet comfortable to use; however, I didn’t notice an outdoor onsen during my visit—clearer signage might be helpful in this regard. I visited after work feeling tired but left completely refreshed and ready to embark on my business trip full of energy. I look forward to visiting again when given another opportunity!

    Stayed with a 1-year-old.

    The room included a private open-air bath and buffet meals for breakfast and dinner. We were likely assigned to a Heisei-modern style room as we had children with us. The only items to be cautious about were the low table and sofa, making it easy to childproof. There were plenty of towels in the room, enough even for multiple baths. The bath was spacious and very relaxing. A large Sugi Pharmacy is just a short walk away, making it convenient to purchase additional diapers or baby food if needed. For dinner, we opted for a kids' meal. It included items suitable for toddlers around three years old (such as shrimp tempura and mini roll cakes). While some dishes like tofu hamburg steak (or fish hamburg steak?) and Napolitan pasta seemed edible for our child, we also used rice from the buffet with retort baby food or brought our own baby food as alternatives. Grilled dishes at dinner included butter-grilled scallops, garlic butter-grilled whelks, chan-chan yaki (grilled salmon with miso), and grilled tsukune skewers (with sauce). All had rich flavors that paired well with both rice and alcohol. We enjoyed four types of sashimi along with sushi—especially the squid sashimi was outstanding; truly fitting for Hakodate! Other appetizers like small side dishes and tuna karaage were also delightful. Breakfast featured made-to-order items such as seared salmon roe sushi, kinmedai ochazuke (rice in tea broth), silver salmon ochazuke, grilled fish fillets, and shrimp salt ramen. The seared salmon roe sushi was exceptional—we went back for seconds! Our child ate brought-from-home baby food during breakfast. The fish in the ochazuke wasn’t overly salty but seasoned lightly with dashi broth; I gave my child a little bit of it too. Breakfast also offered four types of sashimi alongside freshly squeezed apple juice prepared on-site—everything was satisfying! If you have room left after eating other dishes, don’t miss out on their seafood-rich soup curry. As this buffet specializes in seafood cuisine only, most guests are older adults resulting in a quieter dining atmosphere overall. If you're concerned about your children being noisy during meals here—it might be worth reconsidering dining options beforehand (our child stayed calm while eating; giving snacks after finishing helped pass time). Before arrival calls are made by staff confirming various details—but note that searching their phone number online may show another hotel within their group name instead—it’s not an error so feel free calling back directly! We thoroughly enjoyed delicious meals alongside relaxing Onsen baths—a wonderful trip indeed—and would love returning again someday!

    The ocean view was spectacular.

    The room was on the 8th floor, offering a beautiful view of Honshu and the sea. It was my first time staying in this room, and the dim lighting near the bed made it easy to sleep at night. The Onsen in the room was very convenient, allowing me to enjoy it anytime without visiting the public bath. I ended up being fully satisfied with just using the private bath in my room. The meals were delicious and fulfilling for both breakfast and dinner. Since it was a buffet, I could take small portions of everything, which is great for those who can't eat much like elderly guests. Soft-serve ice cream and other options were also available. It’s a great value as you can also use facilities at the neighboring Hotel's play area. Activities like table tennis and board games are available, with scorekeeping options too. There’s even karaoke, which I’d love to try next time. What delighted me most was finding a piano! Although I didn’t bring any sheet music since I wasn’t aware of it beforehand, I enjoyed playing songs from memory to my heart's content. The piano had a silent mode so it didn’t disturb others—perfect for playing without feeling nervous. Overall, I left Hakodate feeling extremely satisfied with my stay!

    It was excellent. I stayed here to visit Hakodate Racecourse, which is within walking distance, and the nearby tram line made it very convenient. There are also a Lawson convenience store, a drugstore, and a Co-op supermarket nearby. As a Diamond Member benefit, we were offered one bottle of wine, but since we don't drink wine, we didn't take it. The Room was spacious—almost too much space for just two people. The bathroom had two sinks, which was very helpful. Another small but convenient feature was the tissues; they were regular household size rather than the smaller ones often found in Hotels. At the back of the shop area in the Hotel is a space where you can relax with drinks or snacks while enjoying views of a Japanese garden. The bath area was also spacious with several types of baths to enjoy (I used it around 8 PM and had it all to myself). The Hotel is connected by hallway to Takubokutei next door, allowing access to their baths and shop as well (Takubokutei's souvenir selection seemed more extensive compared to this Hotel’s carefully curated unique items). Breakfast operates on a shift system; you choose your preferred time during check-in. The menu featured creative dishes with many Hokkaido specialties—some I tried for the first time! With fewer guest rooms overall, everything felt relaxed and unhurried—that might have been my favorite part about staying here. I would definitely like to stay again!

    We only used the Onsen in the room, and the salty water helped clear up heat rash. The meals were delicious. However, we found the TV to be too small for the size of the room and noticed that the provided robes were quite worn out.

    Room with Onsen Bath

    This was my third visit. The spacious room had a cozy, home-like atmosphere. Since my main purpose was to enjoy the Onsen bath attached to the room, I could relax and soak in it anytime I wanted. Between 4 PM and 6 PM, I watched YouTube on my smartphone, but the Wi-Fi bandwidth seemed a bit limited, so playback wasn’t very smooth. However, there were no issues at night or the next morning. I enjoyed the buffet meals with delicious dishes like grilled scallops, ramen, and desserts. I was busy enjoying the baths (I went in six times!), but it truly allowed me to unwind. Thank you very much! I will visit again!

    Hokkaido is known for its seafood, but it would have been nice to have some meat options as well. The buffet being mostly seafood can get a bit repetitive. However, the service and hospitality were excellent.

    The seafood buffet has a limited selection, so improving the quality would enhance satisfaction. It would also be appreciated if there were some meat and vegetables available for family members who do not eat raw fish. The furniture in the room has historical charm, but tears and frays should be repaired. It was disappointing that the ordered dumplings were not delivered, with no clear explanation provided. Efforts to explain such issues are necessary; although it was mentioned as a temporary closure, another accommodation we stayed at the next day offered dumplings as a check-in service. Having plenty of towels available is excellent. With some improvements, this accommodation has great potential to make guests want to return—keep up the effort!

    A Long-Awaited Visit to Yunokawa Onsen

    First, I was surprised by how spacious the room was. I was able to relax and enjoy my time in the comfortable space. The bathroom in the room was also very large, allowing me to unwind completely. The course dinner at Hakodate Ginza-ken was absolutely delicious, and the atmosphere of the restaurant was wonderful. I highly recommend it to anyone planning to stay here. The staff at the accommodation were very polite and had lovely smiles, leaving a great impression.
