    I stayed here planni...

    I stayed here planning to unwind in the Onsen after golf. Dinner was excellent, with fresh and delicious grilled dancing abalone and sashimi. The open-air bath also had a great atmosphere and was very relaxing. Thank you for your hospitality.

    Thorough training is required in safety education and customer service knowledge for foreign staff.

    After the fuel for the small hot pot was lit at breakfast, I saw a staff member adjusting the position of the fuel with a lighter, which felt extremely dangerous from a safety standpoint. Also, when I arrived at the Hotel, I was given a full tour of the property, but there were moments when the accent made it somewhat difficult to understand, and I felt slightly uneasy about whether I had fully understood everything. If each Room had an easy-to-read guide listing the in-house Facilities, it would be clearer for guests and would make their stay more comfortable.

    Very satisfied!

    First of all, the Onsen was excellent—the bath size, temperature, and water quality were all wonderful. The fresh sashimi and abalone were also outstanding. I stay at various Accommodations throughout the year, and this was an Accommodation I would definitely like to visit again. Thank you very much!

    A bit disappointing.

    This was an Accommodation I had wanted to visit for the past five years. The Room felt like it hadn’t been thoroughly cleaned, perhaps because they were busy. There was no explanation of the food. Even though I ordered drinks for dinner at check-in, they weren’t prepared. Reviews aren’t reliable either.

    A Long-Awaited Stay in Uchibō

    Although the building seems old, it has been renovated and I was satisfied; however, when walking along the corridor from the annex guest room to the main building, there were no slippers or similar footwear, so my feet got cold and it was unpleasant. The Onsen temperature was adjusted promptly, and I was able to bathe comfortably. As for the meals, I was satisfied with both the number of dishes and their quality, but the timing of serving each course in the kaiseki meal was far too poor. (For example, they lit the abalone for dancing grill while I had not even finished half of the appetizer; soup was served too early and had cooled by the time I ate it. Also, a palate-cleansing sorbet was served while there were still many dishes left, so it did not serve its purpose.) I would like them to be more considerate about pacing.

    The Room, hospitalit...

    The Room, hospitality, meals, and Onsen were all wonderful, allowing us to relax and create great memories. The meals, in particular, featured local fish as the main ingredient, offering a healthy and flavorful experience that brought out the best of the ingredients. The Onsen was exceptionally spacious and comfortable with a private room-attached facility unlike any other. If I may add some feedback: the Room seemed less traditionally Japanese and more like a mix of Japanese, Western, and Asian styles that felt somewhat unbalanced rather than harmonious. While the Vietnamese staff provided sincere service that left a positive impression, there were areas for improvement such as being unable to explain alcoholic beverages or answer questions about dishes accurately; frequent mistakes in Japanese language usage also stood out for this class of accommodation. It might be better if amenities were fully stocked in the Room. If these aspects are improved by our next visit, I would feel it justifiable even at a slightly higher price point.

    Great hot spring water! Even better service!!

    This accommodation is truly exceptional, starting with the amazing bath! During the cold wave in January, we enjoyed alternating between the private open-air bath in our room and the refreshing outdoor air, which was incredibly rejuvenating. The atmosphere of the room was also wonderful—calm tones, a sense of cleanliness, and a unique blend of extraordinary ambiance with a comforting homely feel. The cuisine was outstanding as well; it was evident that fresh ingredients like meat, fish, and vegetables were carefully prepared. The portions were generous, leaving us fully satisfied both at breakfast and dinner. The staff who served us were all delightful and provided excellent service beyond our expectations for even our meticulous requests as a couple. Thanks to them, we had an extraordinarily special holiday. We usually discuss "Where should we go next?" after trips but found ourselves saying "We want to come back here again" from the bottom of our hearts for this incredible accommodation. Thank you very much!

    This was my first st...

    This was my first stay at the Kinokuniya Annex. The room's open-air bath and footbath were excellent, and I used them multiple times. The meals, featuring fresh seafood dishes, were outstanding. Even though I'm not a fan of fish, I was able to enjoy plenty of it. However, what disappointed me greatly was the spa treatment I had reserved. Despite the high cost, it did not provide any relaxation at all. I cannot recommend the spa service.

    Only about balancing the price.

    A one-night stay for a family of four at "Bettei Sumire." This trip was planned to provide our elderly parents, nearing 80 years old, with a break from their daily routine. Having checked the website and YouTube beforehand, the experience matched our expectations. ■ Building & Location The initial impression of the exterior was surprising. Located in a residential area, it feels more like a renovated apartment than a "luxury ryokan." First-time visitors might find themselves wondering, "Is this really it?" Checking photos in advance is recommended. ■ Room The bedroom felt slightly cramped for four people. We had to move two futons into the dining area due to limited space. The fixed-style sunken kotatsu required some adjustments as well. While lighting was generally dim, cleanliness was impeccable, and despite its age, the room offered comfort. ■ Onsen The onsen water is gentle and warms you from within. Open 24 hours during our stay, we enjoyed multiple baths. Being an open-air bath means mosquitoes are present but manageable with mosquito coils provided—part of the charm of staying amidst nature. Visiting during mosquito-free seasons would be ideal. ■ Meals Both dinner and breakfast were highly satisfying with carefully prepared dishes in generous portions. The abalone exceeded expectations in taste! Even with four adults dining together, we were fully satisfied—perhaps even too much for elderly guests! Dinner took about two hours from start to finish. ■ Staff Service Our attendant was foreign-born (from Vietnam) and provided polite service throughout our stay. However, given this price range, some may expect Japanese staff instead—not out of prejudice but as part of balancing cost with hospitality standards. ■ Drinks & Services Bringing your own drinks is prohibited under penalty fees; there are no vending machines available either while room service beverages are priced high—this aspect felt restrictive and somewhat frustrating considering it's a high-end accommodation where such policies could detract from overall impressions. ■ Overall Impression This accommodation excels as a “stay-in” destination focused on enjoying its onsen and meals rather than sightseeing or shopping outside—it’s perfect if you plan not leaving between check-in/check-out times entirely suitable especially quiet-seeking couples/husbands-wives preferring peaceful retreat ambiance over exploring surroundings

    It was a wonderful accommodation.

    We stayed for one night to relax and unwind. There were no vending machines for drinks, and the drinks in the room's refrigerator were charged. Bringing your own is allowed, so we felt a bit unprepared. However, coffee and tea were provided in the room. After meals, we could enjoy coffee or tea, and lemon water was also available in a pot, so we only needed to order alcohol during meals. The meals were served in the room and offered more than enough portions for a middle-aged couple like us. The freshly prepared sashimi was incredibly fresh and delicious. The bathroom in our room was spacious enough that we didn’t need to leave our accommodation at all during our stay. The foreign staff members worked hard to provide excellent service, which made our experience even more delightful! Younger guests might find it less entertaining here, but if you’re looking for rest and relaxation, this is an excellent accommodation choice. However, as it’s located in a residential area, there’s no view from the windows. Being close to the sea might make it ideal during summer though. We had an incredibly luxurious time here!

    Looks ordinary... but inside is extraordinary!

    Located in a residential area, it looks like an ordinary large house from the outside. However, the Onsen, meals, and hospitality were very satisfying. The freshness of the sashimi at dinner and the creative dishes are definitely worth trying. The indoor lighting felt a bit dim; it would be better if more natural light could come in.

    Komori Journey

    Once you enter the Room, you won't encounter anyone except the staff. You can enjoy a relaxing stay in the traditional Ryokan style. The hot spring was excellent. The food was outstanding. Although the staff were from abroad, they were very polite and made us feel comfortable. We had a restful sleep at night and spent a wonderful time here. We would love to stay again!

    Perfect for a relaxing stay

    The Room is perfect for being filled with Onsen and meals. The Onsen felt like it warmed me from the core of my body. The service was provided by an overseas staff member in training, but their hospitality was conveyed. Also, it's nice that Netflix is available for viewing.

    Forgot the everyday.

    The view from the Room was not the selling point, but the Room's size and design were sufficient for relaxation. The staff were foreigners, but they communicated well and were considerate.

    Relax

    Stays, meals, and onsen were all excellent. I was a bit worried because the review mentioned that the response of the foreign staff was not very well written, but everyone responded politely, and I was able to spend my time with peace of mind. I will visit again.

    The best retreat Stays

    I retired from the company where I worked for 35 years this year and stayed at the Kinokuniya Bettei with my junior colleague as a reward trip. We splurged on a room with an open-air bath, wanting to spend time leisurely, and it was so wonderful that I thought it was the best among recent Stays. Sitting in a Japanese-style room was tough for me due to my bad back, and the chair and cushion would slip, making it unexpectedly uncomfortable. However, since it was a room with a sunken kotatsu, it was easy to stand and sit, and it was one of the few places where meals were served in the room, and payment was also OK in the room. I truly relaxed without stepping out of the room. Due to my chubby body type, the yukata provided often doesn't fit, so I usually bring my own room wear. However, they had large sizes for both yukata and samue, which I thought was wonderful as they cater to non-standard sizes and people. It was appreciated as many places surprisingly do not accommodate larger or smaller sizes. The meals were truly delicious, and the horse mackerel served in the morning was not the usual small, thin type but a large dried fish, giving a sense of enjoying Boso's dried fish. I want to visit again, and it was a Property I would like everyone to stay at. There were many roadside stations nearby, the scenery by the sea was beautiful, and it was an enjoyable trip.
