    Hagi Komachi is an A...

    Hagi Komachi is an Accommodation located a little outside central Hagi City. The building we stayed in had no elevator, but we could use the same dining and Facility areas, so we were able to stay at a very reasonable price. The Hotel itself consists of multiple buildings. The indoor rock bath features an enormous rock that seems to reach up to the second floor—well worth seeing. Just outside the bath window is the sea. From both the Room and throughout this Accommodation, you can feel how close the ocean is. We enjoyed the sunset sky from the dining venue. Thank you to the staff for their courteous hospitality.

    Overall, it was a fairly standard Accommodation, but I often felt that the explanations were missing one more helpful detail. Since there were no window screens, we couldn’t enjoy the sea breeze in the Room. The view from the dining area was beautiful.

    The staff’s thoughtf...

    The staff’s thoughtfulness and service were excellent, and although it was my first trip in a while, it became a wonderful memory. However, the Room air conditioning did not work well, the noise from the unit bothered me and made it hard to sleep, and I was also concerned about the smell of the water in the open-air bath.

    Terrible customer service.

    Directions to the Room were given only by pointing at the overall floor map and telling us to find it ourselves. We got lost, and other families were also wandering around saying, “We don’t know where our Room is—weren’t we just here?” Staff should guide guests to their Rooms. There was no sign for the coin laundry at the entrance stairway either, so we wandered around for a long time. When we asked the front desk, they again only explained it using the map. When I told a staff member that I didn’t understand and asked them to take me there, they looked annoyed. When we went to the open-air bath at 7:00 PM, even the washing area was completely dark. Perhaps to save electricity, we had to turn on the lights ourselves before using it. Around 9:00 PM, even the hallways inside were turned off; it was dark around the guest rooms even during the day, with no windows—just a cramped feeling. There are many stairs, and going to either the indoor bath or open-air bath was exhausting. It’s absolutely not suitable for anyone with mobility issues. I never want to stay here again.

    A Showa-era atmosphere Ryokan

    Overall, it feels like a Showa-era Ryokan. I was really bothered by how dark the interior was—I'm not sure if it’s intentionally kept dim. The Onsen also felt very old-fashioned, to the point that there was even a black rotary phone. (lol) The Reviews of the food were good, so I had high expectations, but it was just average—like the kind of meal you’d get on a school trip.

    We stayed in a Room with a private open-air bath this time. Since my wife has limited mobility, we always make a Reservation for a Room with Onsen water. The Facility is certainly old in some respects, but the bathroom was the most spacious of any we’ve had. My wife seemed very satisfied, and there was also a massage chair, which we really enjoyed. The meals were delicious, and it helped us recover from the fatigue of the ferry ride—we were very pleased overall. We would like to stay again if we have the chance. I hope you will keep Room 205 (with some minor updates). To all the staff—please keep up the great work!

    I ate too much.

    This Onsen Accommodation by the sea offers views from the Room of ships coming and going in the harbor. The observation deck on the 7th floor also provides wonderful panoramic views, from nearby scenery to distant horizons. The meals, both breakfast and dinner, were so generous that we could not finish them all. The Facility is old, but the Onsen includes a rock-lined indoor bath and an open-air bath, which we thoroughly enjoyed. We left something behind in the Room, but they contacted us right away and mailed it to us. Thank you very much.

    An Accommodation with Stunning Sunset Views

    I chose this Accommodation to relax while watching the sunset and listening to the sound of the waves. Based on Reviews praising the service and cuisine, I booked a Plan with dinner and breakfast included. The staff were efficient yet kind, and my Room was very quiet, which made it truly relaxing. The meals were thoughtfully prepared so that hot dishes were served hot, and I was impressed by the care taken to have freshly cooked rice ready at my preferred dining time. The portions may not be large, but for me they were more than enough. I was able to stay at a special last-minute Reservation rate, and it felt like far more than worth the price. This is an Accommodation I would love to return to.

    The view from the Room is breathtaking!

    I stayed here for one night on my trip to Hagi. As other Reviews mention, the staff were welcoming from the moment I arrived and provided pleasant, courteous service, which I really appreciated. Since it was a corner Room, I could enjoy panoramic views of the Sea of Japan from two sides—scenery quite different from where I live (on the Pacific side)! One small disappointment was that it happened to be during Japan’s WBC game, but neither the TV in my Room nor the TVs in the other playrooms supported Netflix. Even though there was a large TV, I ended up watching only on the small iPad screen I brought with me. That’s why I gave 4 stars, but everything else was great, and it’s an Accommodation I’d like to stay at again when I visit Hagi.

    Affordable and great!

    The Onsen was a bit lukewarm, but the open-air bath and rock bath had a great setting! Afterward, my body warmed up nicely, and a beer after the bath was the best.

    Can you forgive?

    Every year, I visit an Onsen with my wife during the New Year holidays. This was the first time we stayed at a Ryokan where the heating was broken in such cold weather. The manager came personally to apologize politely. Although I felt upset, I didn’t want to start the New Year by getting angry, so I endured and stayed for two nights. I also paid the full regular price for our stay. What do you think about this situation?

    This trip was a couple's getaway planned by my wife to celebrate my 60th birthday. We chose a Plan with a Room featuring an open-air bath, which was reasonably priced. The Room had a low ceiling and felt like it was repurposed with an attached open-air bath. The low-positioned refrigerator was inconvenient to use. However, we enjoyed the bath in the Room very much. Dinner was served in a large hall that resembled a wedding venue, where all dishes were lit at once, which felt slightly overwhelming. That said, the chestnut rice with yam tubers was delicious. There was a separate menu card on our table; I initially wondered why but later realized it might have been due to my wife's food preferences—though I wish they had removed the card beforehand for better presentation. There were two international guests as well, and their efforts were commendable and pleasant to see. However, I think more knowledge about sake would be beneficial (when I asked if it was pure rice sake, they said they'd check but brought it without confirming—I wanted one without added brewing alcohol). Breakfast was served at the same table as dinner and presented all at once again. The entire facility had some level differences due to extensions over time; while these were explained upon arrival, navigating them could be slightly confusing. At the shop inside the facility, there seemed to be sake sold by measure; however, one of them tasted slightly sour as if it had been left out for too long (apologies if this is incorrect). It wasn’t something I'd experienced before. Perhaps staying longer would have allowed us to discover more enjoyable aspects of this place; unfortunately, with just one night’s stay, we couldn’t fully explore everything available here.

    A Warm and Welcoming Accommodation

    Stayed with the Three Great Kaiseki Cuisine Plan. The local seafood platter was more luxurious than expected, and as sashimi lovers, my spouse and I were thrilled. The mukago and chestnut rice cooked in a pot was warm and comforting, with all dishes having a gentle flavor that complemented each other perfectly. We enjoyed every bite without getting tired of the taste. Breakfast featured unique local specialties like dried fugu fish, offering an unparalleled experience. Even my husband, who usually skips breakfast, couldn’t resist the delicious egg rice and ended up having three bowls of rice! The large windows provided a stunning view of the ocean, making for a truly luxurious morning. Our semi-open-air room had some signs of age but impressed us with its spacious bath and breathtaking scenery—perfect for unwinding from daily stress. From parking to reception, gift shop to guest rooms, restaurant staff—everyone was kind and attentive; their hospitality truly shone through. Thank you for such a wonderful stay at this warm-hearted hotel! Despite being far away, it has become one of the accommodations we’d love to revisit again someday.

    It was a comfortable stay.

    The Ryokan had a slightly old-fashioned feel, but I enjoyed the free drink machines placed around, massage chairs, and the stone sauna. There were two bath areas, and the large rock bath was magnificent. Although there was an issue with the Room's private bath, I contacted the front desk, and they responded immediately, allowing me to enjoy a comfortable stay afterward. The staff were very kind and professional; it truly felt like a well-established traditional Ryokan. The parking lot is a bit far away, but since the staff handled bringing in and out cars for us, it wasn’t inconvenient at all. Overall, it was an excellent experience!

    Cleanliness guaranteed

    The facility is old and not stylish. However, it is well-cleaned, the sheets are clean, and the bedding was comfortable to sleep on. The breakfast included many processed foods and seemed to contain a lot of additives. As I usually prefer additive-free options, this was a concern for me, but the taste was not too strong. The reasonable price was a positive point. The outdoor bath was nice; however, the indoor bath required going down stairs to access it and had a noticeable chlorine smell. Since there are many stairs in the facility, it might be challenging for those who have difficulty with stairs.

    Services for Women

    This was the first accommodation I stayed at that had a powder room. On top of that, there was a steamer and cosmetics, which was amazing. I also enjoyed the bath, and the food was delicious. I would love to stay here again when I visit the area.

    Friendly Accommodation

    A wonderful accommodation I would love to revisit. The parking lot, front desk, shop, guest rooms, restaurant, and every staff member we encountered were all kind and attentive, truly embodying the spirit of hospitality. The building itself feels quite old (a nostalgic atmosphere for someone in their 50s like me), but the exceptional service more than makes up for it—so much so that it's hard to put into words. You must experience it at least once. The food is not extravagant but delicious. The view from the open-air bath is also fantastic. One minor point: there are many stairs within the facility, which seemed challenging for a friend with leg issues. Thanks to all the staff members, I felt truly cared for and left with a warm heart.     Stunning views, delicious meals, and relaxing Onsen – all in one place!

    I stayed with a package that included rock bath and karaoke perks, but even without those, the observation room with its stunning view, free massage chairs, and foot warmers was more than enough to enjoy my time. The Onsen featured not only an impressive large rock bath that exceeded the photos but also an open-air bath. The meals allowed me to fully savor fresh seafood ingredients. This accommodation offers excellent cost value. The Ryokan staff were all friendly and attentive, making for a very pleasant stay. Overall, I highly recommend this Ryokan!

    It was a wonderful a...

    It was a wonderful accommodation. While it had a rustic charm, it was kept very clean, and above all, the staff were incredibly kind, making it a very comfortable stay. Next time, I’d love to try fishing as well. The meals were delicious and so plentiful that I regretted not being able to finish everything. The onsen had a salty taste, and the rock bath allowed for a relaxing time while listening to the sound of waves. I look forward to visiting Hagi again.

    Convenient for Hagi sightseeing. An Onsen accommodation with scenic dining areas for both dinner and breakfast.

    Second visit to Hagi. Last time, I stayed near Matsushita Village School, so I was a bit worried about the distance, but it turned out to be perfect. I thoroughly enjoyed relaxing in the Onsen. The meals were satisfying in both quality and quantity. Since it's not a buffet, you can enjoy your meal at a leisurely pace. The room had a great view and was very satisfying as well. The Onsen features a large rock bath and an open-air bath, both equipped with plenty of hair dryers and amenities. There's also a free electric massage chair available. While it seems family-friendly, there were many couples too. This is an accommodation I'd love to visit again!

    Truly a "Cradle of the Sea"

    Although it was unfortunately rainy on the day of our stay, the view from the room was serene, with a lighthouse visible through the misty sea, creating a very relaxing atmosphere. During the morning bath, although the foggy scenery obscured distant views, seagulls flying nearby made for a refreshing moment. Dinner met our expectations, and every dish was delicious. The highlight of breakfast was the white rice; it was cooked in an individual rice pot (used for kamameshi during dinner) and tasted wonderful.

I stayed in a room with an onsen, but the strong chlorine smell (which I understand is unavoidable for hygiene reasons, though it was still too strong) made it difficult to use, which was disappointing.     Starting with the po...

    Starting with the points that caught my attention, the parking lot was difficult to find. And the wait to be shown to the room was too long... We waited about 5 minutes to park, about 10 minutes to check in, and another 10 minutes to be shown to the room after check-in. The lobby was narrow, so we couldn't line up in front of the front desk, and everyone was standing around waiting. It was hard to tell who was waiting to check in and who was waiting to be shown to their room, so when they said, "Next person waiting to check in, please," everyone was confused, wondering, "Whose turn is it? Is it mine?" It would have been better if this process was clearer and smoother. Check-in is the first impression of the property, so it felt like a missed opportunity. A young male staff member who was cleaning in the breakfast area stopped what he was doing, turned towards us, and greeted us with a smile as we were leaving, which I found wonderful. All the staff in the dining area were very pleasant. At breakfast, there were eggs and special soy sauce for tamago kake gohan near the entrance of the venue, but I thought it would be better if the special soy sauce was placed on each table. This would make it easier for guests to adjust the flavor. Since the original soy sauce is sold in the shop, it could also serve as a promotion. I felt that it was a good property where you can stay at a reasonable price in terms of food and facilities.

    Thank you for taking care of us for two days.

    I traveled to Yamaguchi Prefecture for the first time. The Onsen had just the right temperature, and I was happy to soak in the water many times while enjoying the beautiful scenery. The meals included many delicious and elaborate seafood dishes. The rice was particularly delicious. It was also nice to have many warm dishes. It was a bit disappointing that the shower pressure in the bath was weak. I was able to enjoy sightseeing here and there and had a relaxing and enjoyable time by the sea. Thank you very much.
