    An otherworldly Hotel set on a breathtaking beach

    I returned once again to this Hotel, set on a stunning beach with spectacular views of Kakeroma Island. As always, the complimentary sunrise and sunset yoga sessions help refresh both mind and body, making breakfast and dinner afterward truly exceptional. Both the rotating Japanese set meals and Italian dishes continue to be of consistently high quality. On the “almost private beach” in front of the Hotel, I encountered sea turtles for the third year in a row. It was windy throughout my stay, but the friendly staff kindly helped adjust activities to what was possible each day. Thank you! Just under two hours from the airport. There are no other Hotels nearby—an exceptionally rare setting that feels completely removed from modern life. I hope this Hotel continues for many years to come.

    Wonderful Hotel and Location

    We stayed as a family. Driving our rental car along roads that kept getting narrower, we felt relieved when we spotted the SCENE sign—though the road became even tighter after that. When we arrived, it felt like a resort abroad, something you rarely find in Japan. For snorkeling with a board, a former staff member kindly guided us in detail, showing us incredible coral and many sea turtles—we were extremely satisfied. The Italian dinner was also delicious. If I had to mention one thing, we would have enjoyed dinner even more if the table had been arranged so everyone could face the ocean rather than sitting across from each other. Still, overall we were very satisfied.

    A beautiful Hotel located by the stunning beach in Setouchi Town, southern Amami—the only one on the shore.

    Modern, clean Room overlooking the beach. Delicious meals you could enjoy day after day without getting tired of them. Cozy, home-like hospitality. Best of all, a beautiful beach where sea turtles and many kinds of fish swim—reserved exclusively for this Hotel’s guests.

    A Comfortable Hotel

    The Room was clean and comfortable. If you open all the window curtains, the inside is fully visible from outside, so I had to be mindful. The starry sky seen from the rooftop was beautiful and moving. It was disappointing that the evening yoga was canceled, but the morning yoga felt great while listening to the sound of the waves.

    The staff seem to be doing their best, but in the first place...

    It didn’t feel like it was originally designed as a luxury Resort Hotel (perhaps it was built long ago for diving couples?), and there were simply too many aspects that made me hesitate. I might have been satisfied if the price were half. When I entered the Room, I was surprised by a musty, mold-like smell. If you are particular about amenities, a universally appealing room fragrance might be a better choice. In the dining area, the tables are arranged in a single line facing the same direction, and service starts at the same time for everyone, so you end up hearing the explanation of your neighbor’s dishes all over again. The heart-shaped pool visible from the Room also looked far too cheap-looking... I felt sorry for the staff who were working so hard.

    It was a memorable journey.

    We stayed for two nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary and my husband's birthday. The staff were very attentive when I consulted them in advance about a surprise for my husband, and they provided an amazing arrangement on the day. For dinner, we enjoyed Japanese cuisine on the first night and Italian on the second, both offering completely different atmospheres and delicious meals. They also recommended black sugar shochu to pair with our meals based on our preferences and even suggested a shop where we could purchase it, allowing us to bring home our favorite bottle. During the optional sunset cruise, they made every effort to position the boat so we could catch glimpses of the sun peeking through the clouds. They took many photos for us, one of which was framed and placed at our dinner table that evening—a delightful surprise that truly touched us. The morning and evening yoga sessions held on the outdoor deck were incredibly refreshing—gentle enough for beginners yet invigorating—and it was wonderful to head straight to the open-air bath afterward. Every staff member provided excellent service from check-in to check-out, making our stay exceptionally comfortable. This Hotel offers outstanding hospitality!

    An accommodation ideal for a relaxing multiple night stay.

    Due to my travel schedule, I could only stay for one night, but I wished I could have had a Multiple Night Stay! The staff's service and hospitality were excellent, and I highly recommend this place for those who want to relax while enjoying activities. Although my stay was from evening arrival to morning departure, I managed to snorkel at the beach right in front of the property and even saw sea turtles. Being able to head straight from the sea to the Onsen was also a great feature. Dinner was Italian cuisine as it was an odd-numbered day, and it was delicious. I requested a pairing with brown sugar shochu instead of wine, which turned out to be a great choice as well. The breakfast buffet didn’t have an extensive selection but included local dishes like chicken rice (keihan), which made it more than satisfying. The Room wasn’t extremely spacious but had enough space for comfort. With not too many rooms available, the cozy atmosphere really appealed to me personally.

    A cozy and relaxing Hotel.

    This trip was a sudden decision, so I headed to Amami Oshima without any plans. Since it was last minute, I booked the first Hotel that appeared on IKYU.com, and it turned out to be an amazing choice. After checking in, I went straight to the beach right in front of the Hotel. Within seconds, I encountered sea turtles—it was truly moving! And not just one; they were everywhere (I guess my timing was perfect). I hadn’t planned any activities beforehand, but this Hotel owns a boat and offers sunset cruises and boat snorkeling. You can also join yoga sessions while listening to the sound of waves in the morning or evening. At night, you can enjoy a sky full of stars along with the Milky Way—I even managed to capture it with my iPhone handheld camera! The Room has large windows that allow you to relax on your bed while gazing at the ocean and Kakeromajima Island across from it—so soothing. After playing in the sea, you can conveniently stop by their outdoor hot spring bath located outside. The staff are all very friendly and willing to help with activities or meal suggestions. If you're visiting Amami Oshima, this is a wonderful Hotel where everything is complete in one place! It takes about 2 hours by car from the airport but is absolutely worth visiting. Next time, I'll carefully plan what I want to do and fully enjoy my stay!

    Enjoy the Amami Sea

    I had always wanted to visit Amami Oshima, and although I wasn't sure which Hotel to choose, I decided on this one and had a wonderful stay. From the large windows of the white Room, you can enjoy a view of the green garden and the sea. The food is delicious, and you can enjoy the sea right in front of you at any time. I wanted to try snorkeling in the beautiful sea but thought it might not be possible due to time constraints. However, they introduced me to a 2-hour course that included visiting Kakeroma Island by boat, which fit perfectly into my schedule before heading back. It was my first time snorkeling, so I was nervous, but they taught me very kindly. Most importantly, the color of the sea was incredible! I've never seen such a beautiful blue glass-like ocean before. Experiencing this activity made such a difference in my trip's satisfaction level—I was thrilled! I even got to see sea turtles.

    The location is excellent.

    I stayed for a Multiple Night Stay, but it felt like a casual Resort Hotel that didn’t match the price. There was only one staff member at the reception, who was constantly looking at the computer, and I often had to request things like replenishing beach towels. The public bath wasn’t clean as some guests seemed to go directly there after leisure activities without using outdoor showers, leaving sand in both the changing room and bath area. I would appreciate prior guidance for guests and cleaning before evening bathing hours. Additionally, there was no air conditioning in the changing room—just one small fan—making it uncomfortably hot. The breakfast buffet was disappointing in terms of variety and taste, even falling short of a Business Hotel standard. It’s puzzling because the in-room dining meals were delicious yet so different from the buffet quality. However, the location is outstanding—the ocean view right before your eyes and a sky full of stars were truly breathtaking.

    Second Stay

    I stayed for two nights with my wife to celebrate my birthday. Meals were alternated between Japanese and Italian cuisine, both of which were delicious. The Italian dishes, in particular, were mildly seasoned, which greatly satisfied my wife. Although we initially reserved a room on the second floor, we were upgraded to the top floor. I thought the view would be similar since it’s just the sea, but it turned out to be completely different and very satisfying. The staff provided excellent service and were very accommodating. However, as for the outdoor onsen being an open-air bath, I understand that it's unavoidable to some extent, but there were floating objects other than insects in the water. Additionally, with only a fan in the changing room, it was hard to fully enjoy relaxing at the onsen. Also, I found the elevator quite slow and slightly inconvenient. That said, with its beautiful ocean views and Kakeroma Island right in front of us along with amazing meals—this place is fantastic! I would love to stay here again during my next trip to Amami!

    It was excellent.

    We traveled to Amami for a special anniversary. The hospitality at the scene was exceptional. Our Room and meals were upgraded, which was truly touching. The Room with a beautiful location and the delicious meals made with high-grade Amami ingredients provided an unforgettable dining experience. The staff were kind, making our stay very pleasant.     Questioning if it meets IKYU standards

    For a mid-range Resort Hotel, it would be rated 3 stars, but considering the top-tier pricing in Amami Oshima, it's hard not to judge harshly. - The back of the Hotel feels abandoned - Lots of trash - Entrance is hard to find - Reception area feels disorganized - Room smells moldy - Dinner is significantly overpriced - Breakfast consists of frozen or pre-made dishes - Room Facility lacks attention to detail Given the price range and high rating on IKYU.com, my expectations were high. I've never been this disappointed with an IKYU booking before. I regret not seeing through their presentation skills and will reflect on my oversight. From now on, I'll add more steps like checking Google Maps images and researching operating companies when reviewing Reviews across multiple platforms. If it weren't listed on IKYU and priced at a mid-range level, it would just be an ordinary Hotel.

    Accommodation with Amazing Brown Sugar Shochu

    A unique accommodation offering a selection of rare brown sugar shochu, paired with delicious meals. Despite falling into the mangrove river and getting soaked on the day, the staff provided prompt and effective assistance, which was greatly appreciated. The availability of detergent, a washing machine, and a dryer was very convenient. However, despite being labeled as all-inclusive, shochu and wine were charged separately—this should be clearly stated. Additionally, the timing of meal service was significantly delayed, which caused inconvenience. The room was very spacious with stunning views from large windows; however, it would be better if the TV monitor size matched the scale of the room at night.

    The women's Onsen was almost at water temperature.

    First, regarding the temperature of the onsen water. For men, it was lukewarm but still at a temperature that one could stay in. However, according to my wife, the women's side was almost at water temperature. She and another person who was with us left quickly and warmed up in the room's bath because it was too cold. The onsen has an outdoor washing area, so it might not be suitable for cold seasons. It is more appropriate to use this onsen after marine leisure activities. The view from the room is very wonderful; however, please be aware that there is also a good view into your room from outside. The washbasin, bath, and toilet are integrated into one space which makes it somewhat inconvenient to use; moreover, there is quite a step to get there so caution is needed. Why such a step exists? Was it only our room? We enjoyed both Japanese and Italian meals; however, there wasn't any dish that would make you say "I came here just to eat this." Additionally, I had some concerns about how wine was served. It's fine to check the aroma of wine but that should be done with a separate glass; bringing one's nose close to sniff the aroma in glasses served to guests seems inappropriate—it would never happen in urban restaurants. Other guests seemed to feel similarly about this issue as well. Due perhaps due space constraints but I think arranging tables and chairs parallel with glass surfaces would be better suited here too—all staff members were kind-hearted friendly people making for pleasant interactions throughout our stay!

    It is a cozy and nic...

    It is a cozy and nice Hotel. The Room was upgraded, and the view was amazing. The service was friendly and courteous. Although you need to leave the Hotel once to access the open-air bath, I didn’t mind and found it enjoyable. The Japanese-style dinner was very delicious and satisfying. The Hotel, as seen from Ankyaku-ba, was beautifully illuminated by the sunlight, shining white.

    My heart could take a deep breath.

    Third stay. The service is neither too close nor too distant, and I feel a very polite hospitality. The meals are seasoned to bring out the best of the ingredients, with creative and ingenious menus, and the staff's coordination is excellent, allowing for enjoyable dining even with daily use. For activities, I participated in the Oshima Strait Cruise this time, and the captain's safe and secure navigation is wonderful, providing thoughtful gestures that entertain every time. And above all, the starry sky is amazing. However, caution is needed for the footing on the rooftop (the step at the top of the stairs, the step with artificial turf)! Danger level. The sofa gets quite wet with night dew? I think the brightness is considerate of the starry sky, but I would like improvements such as marking the footing and regularly wiping the sofa.

    Multiple Night Stay for 2 Nights with the Sea in Front

    It was a wonderful Hotel. It was a Property where I was energized by the young hoteliers. Both Italian and Japanese cuisine were creatively prepared and very delicious. There was even a lunch included that you wouldn't believe was free, and they kindly assisted with activities like walking tours and snorkeling, allowing us to fully enjoy the sea. Thank you very much.

    A hotel you want to visit repeatedly

    This is my fourth stay. The staff, full of hospitality, welcomes you with a smile. Several sea turtles reside in the sea in front of the Hotel. This time, I rented a wetsuit and entered the winter sea, and I was able to encounter one of them. The recommended dinner is the Japanese course.

    First Time in Amami Oshima

    Although the weather was unfortunate, the blue sky occasionally peeked through, and the waves gently lapped with a pleasant breeze blowing. The staff all had wonderful smiles, and their subtle attentiveness was comforting. The interior was bright and kept clean everywhere, and above all, the ocean view from the guest room was magnificent. I wanted to keep gazing at the ever-changing scenery. The natural Onsen allowed me to relax while listening to the sound of the waves and gazing at the sky, warming me up and allowing for a good night's sleep. True to the concept of "Nature Cleanse," I felt the healing power of nature, and I would love to visit again when my mind and body are tired. Thank you very much.

    The hospitality, service, meals, and facility were all very satisfying. The bath in the room was also clean, but the Onsen was a bit disappointing as the water temperature was low and there was only a shower. (I think this is because the Onsen is intended for guests diving in the summer.)

    I was completely sat...

    I was completely satisfied with the service, the room, and the food. While the building's age is noticeable upon close inspection, everything, including the room, was kept clean, so it wasn't a concern. The staff treated us with great courtesy. We only had breakfast, but it was very delicious. The private beach was lovely, and we were able to spend a very quiet and relaxing time. The only disappointment was the weather. I had planned to enjoy the activities here and read leisurely outside, but the typhoon prevented all of that. I will definitely come back for a rematch, so I look forward to your hospitality again at that time. Thank you for taking care of us.

    The location is excellent.

    It is far from the airport, but it is in a very good location. I was able to spend a relaxing time and felt very relaxed. You can participate in yoga for free in the evening and morning. I had a great time watching the sea and Kakeromajima (Kakeromajima). There are various other activities, and it seems that you can also see sea turtles in the shallow waters of the hotel's beach. If I had to say, it would be better if the morning yoga time was a little earlier so that it wouldn't overlap with the open-air bath and breakfast time. I chose Italian for dinner, and everything was very well thought out and delicious, with hot and cold dishes served at the right temperature, which was satisfying. Breakfast was a buffet, but there were a few options, and it was disappointing compared to dinner. I would be happy if, instead of a buffet, you could serve a plate with items that can be chosen. All the staff were very pleasant, and it was a hotel I would definitely like to visit again.

    A hotel I definitely want to stay at again

    We stayed as two middle-aged women. The staff always had a natural smile. They provided excellent answers to all our questions (about food, drinks, the island, etc.), and we felt they were well-informed. The Hotel was clean and had a pleasant fragrance. The Room was also very clean with a fantastic view. (The mold on the ceiling is understandable as it's a rainy island.) The cuisine was a mix of Italian and Japanese, both of which were very delicious. The activities we reserved through the Hotel (cruising and yoga) were very enjoyable. It's a Hotel we definitely want to stay at again. The Onsen/bath was rated 3 stars only because, while the Room's bath was spacious, clean, and very nice, the Onsen outside the Hotel was... It seemed like a bath meant for after playing in the sea. We used it after going into the sea, but hesitated to enter from the changing room...

    A series of miraculous stays

    After visiting once, I completely fell in love with this inn and its location, so I came back for another stay. It was a very satisfying stay. This time, I participated in two activities. The sea turtle snorkeling activity. While searching for sea turtles, we were also shown the habitat of Nemo and received explanations at the location of a large coral discovered the previous day, which increased the enjoyment by learning things we couldn't have known on our own. Furthermore, when we found a sea turtle and were returning to the beach, there were two sea turtles, and as we watched them for a while, another sea turtle came from a different direction, allowing us to swim surrounded by three sea turtles, which was an emotional and miraculous experience. During this snorkeling, they took videos and photos, which they send to us, so we can look back on them many times. The other activity was private yoga. While you can experience yoga in the morning and evening, in private yoga, they create a program that approaches the parts of the body you are concerned about. Therefore, you can feel the blood flowing well within your body. Originally, it was scheduled for the evening, but due to heavy rain, it was changed to night. This change turned out to be positive, with a sky full of stars! It was very moving, and doing yoga under the starry sky while listening to the sound of the waves was truly extraordinary! The relaxation effect of the gentle sound of the waves, the starry sky, and yoga allowed me to sleep very well. This time, I chose barbecue for dinner. Although I had never experienced barbecue before, they took care of all the fire starting and setting up, so all I had to do was grill, making it easy to enjoy. The ingredients, spices, and seasonings were all delicious, and I could enjoy them in various ways. While course meals are also delicious, knowing the delicious food here gave me confidence in the ingredients, allowing me to fully savor the taste of the barbecue. The staff working here are very impressive with their frequent smiles, and they seem to be exerting their strengths in their areas of expertise. I believe there are many challenges, but I hope this wonderful atmosphere continues without being broken or lost. I would like to visit again.

    The location, staff, and facilities are all great at this hotel.

    I stayed for 3 nights and 4 days. Since I wanted to visit Kakeromajima, I looked for a hotel in the southern area, and this hotel came up as a candidate. I was a bit anxious because the payment was processed at the time of booking, but I decided to go ahead and make the reservation. I headed to the hotel on the day without having much prior information about it. Although it seemed far from the nearby town of Koniya on the map, the road to the hotel was narrow and mountainous, which seemed a bit daunting to drive at night (fortunately, I didn't have to drive at night...). The facility was predominantly white and had a very clean feel. The front desk staff were very friendly and created an atmosphere where I could easily ask anything. Check-in was done via barcode, which was a first for me, but I managed to check in somehow. The room was spacious and clean. From the room, I had a direct view of the sea and Kakeromajima, which was an amazing sight. However, since the entire sea-facing side was a window, I think the inside of the room would be completely visible from outside if the lights were on at night (those concerned should be cautious). I was given a room on the 4th floor, although I had booked a room on the 2nd floor, so I believe they upgraded me (I was thrilled). This hotel has a hot spring, and since it was an open-air bath, the night sky was very beautiful. There seemed to be few users, so I could relax and take my time, but there were only four washing areas and two chairs and wash buckets each, so I was worried about how it would be during busy times. The bathroom in the room was also comfortable, with a large bathtub and a spacious washing area, so I could fully enjoy the bath in the room as well. However, since it was a glass window with the room, it was completely visible, and although there were blinds, they were operated from the room side, so I thought it might be better if they were on the bathroom side. I requested repairs for the coffee maker and ordered ice at the front desk, and the response was quick and stress-free. I only had breakfast. The variety was limited, but each dish was delicious, and I ended up eating too much. The chicken rice was especially something I looked forward to every morning. The staff were attentive to the dishes and each table, allowing for a comfortable dining experience. It's a hotel that comes with a certain price, but I think it's well worth it. If I have the chance to visit Amami Oshima again, I would like to stay at this hotel again.

    It was excellent!

    It was a trip for two with my daughter, our first visit to Amami Oshima. We decided on the destination and hotel at the last minute to celebrate my daughter's birthday, but we were able to have a wonderful time thanks to the amazing location and the friendly and kind staff. The beach right in front is said to be visited by sea turtles, but we didn't encounter any, so we hope to try again next time. We did see plenty of fish. It was also great to be able to go straight from the beach to the hot springs! The yoga sessions in the evening and morning were very pleasant, feeling the sea breeze. We had Italian for dinner, and the dishes made with Amami ingredients were truly delicious with their gentle flavors. We were also very moved by the starry sky viewed from the room's window. Everything was perfect, and we made wonderful memories with my daughter. Next time, I would like to visit with my husband and eldest daughter, so please take care of us again then!

    Stayed with 16 people, the meals exceeded expectations, and the service was good. Thanks to the person in charge. I wasn't planning to write a review, but after staying for two nights at Dogo... Hotel since yesterday, the food and service were not worth the high price at all...

    Hidden Gem with Stunning Views

    I stayed for six nights in August. The breathtaking view of Kakeromajima and the beach (Yadori Beach) right in front of you is amazing, and it's a wonderful facility where you can enter the on-site hot spring right after swimming at the beach. While snorkeling in the sea, I saw beautiful corals, colorful fish, and even sea turtles. For dinner, I enjoyed both Japanese and Italian cuisine once each, and the pairing of shochu and wine was delightful. The morning yoga session was a valuable experience with a lesson overlooking Kakeromajima. The starry sky visible from the rooftop is also spectacular. It takes about two hours from the airport to the hotel, but it's definitely worth the trip. It also takes about 20 minutes to the nearest town with shops, so it's a good idea to stop by Naze beforehand to buy food and drinks. Due to a typhoon, we couldn't go outside for two days, but we relaxed and enjoyed drinking in the room. The hospitality of the staff was excellent, and I definitely want to visit again.
