    We made wonderful memories.

    The meals, the Room’s open-air bath, and the service were all excellent. We were able to fully enjoy a special getaway and relax at our own pace. We would love to visit again!

    Regret

    The service provided by the foreign staff was truly excellent. That is exactly why the overall experience was so disappointing. What I most want to point out is how low the water temperature was in the large public bath. It surprised our entire family. As for the open-air Onsen, it was not free-flowing, so we could not even see where hot water was coming out, and combined with the outside temperature, we could not stay in for even a minute. Also, please note that the open-air bath in the Room is not an Onsen. We stayed in Kaede Room, and there were many areas where the tub’s coating had peeled off; it reminded me of an old school swimming pool and made me feel sad. The semi-private dining area was dimly lit and had no background music, creating a gloomy atmosphere. We could hear every word from the couple next to us throughout the meal, which felt awkward. Perhaps due to limited staffing, dinner service was slow, and having to sit idly after finishing each dish while waiting for the next one was stressful. One dish—seared pork—was completely cold and dry; I still do not know if that was how it was meant to be served. The photos on Reservation sites look beautiful, but I wonder if they only increase disappointment by widening the gap between expectations and reality. This is my first time writing a Review on IKYU, but I am surprised this Accommodation is listed there. I do not feel it offers value for money at all. This is only one person’s opinion, but I hope it helps as a reference.

    Anniversary Trip

    I stayed at Tsuga no Toki on Friday, November 29. The staff included both Japanese and international team members, and everyone treated each guest with great care, making my stay truly pleasant. The Room provided a relaxing environment, and I was very satisfied with the Room that had a private open-air bath. The food was excellent—especially the Tochigi wagyu beef—and I found the breakfast to be outstanding. If I had to mention one thing, I would have appreciated slightly faster service when dishes were being served. It became a wonderful anniversary memory. Thank you very much.

    Please note: Wi‑Fi is not available in the special room.

    We chose a special Room to relax comfortably, but the Wi-Fi did not work and it interfered with my husband’s work. The Hotel seemed aware of the issue and posted a notice that reception is weak near the windows in each Room, but in the special Room there was no signal at all. Given the price, I would have expected at least a router to be installed. In the women’s bath area, there were only four lockers in the changing room, and some guests gave up and left because there was nowhere to change. The parking lot was quite far away, so unloading and loading luggage in the rain was difficult. It was also shared with a souvenir shop, and some rough-looking people were gathering there smoking, which made it feel unpleasant and raised concerns about possible vandalism. Overall, it was a disappointing Hotel.

    The open-air bath in the Room was disappointing.

    The open-air bath in the room is not an Onsen but hot water. Although it was noted during the Reservation, I overlooked it. There is no washing area, so you can only soak in the tub, and there is no dressing area, leaving you to undress completely in the Room. The Room shows signs of renovation; however, the tatami mats are frayed, and the closet doors and toilet door are shaky. The staff members were overly polite, which is fine, but as they were foreign nationals and overly formal, I couldn't understand what they were saying at all. The parking lot was far away, requiring walking to get there. While the food was excellent with no complaints, considering its cost-performance ratio (value for money), I have given a low rating overall.

    We strive to provide...

    We strive to provide good service, but there is room for improvement in other areas. The breakfast is simply laid out with no freshly prepared dishes. It would be nice if you could wash your body in the open-air bath. A bit disappointing.

    The hospitality was excellent.

    We stayed for a Multiple Night Stay as a family, including small children. Since we have kids, we were looking for a Room with futons in a Japanese-style setting and a private open-air bath. The meals were all delicious, and the menu was varied so we could enjoy without getting bored. Above all, the staff were very kind to our children and showed great consideration, which we truly appreciated. The woman who attended to us was from overseas and had exceptional hospitality skills; our kids absolutely adored her. Thank you very much!

    The staff are excellent.

    Thank you very much for your hospitality. It was my first time visiting Kinugawa Onsen, and I chose this accommodation as my son had a soccer training camp in Yaita. It turned out to be an excellent choice. I was deeply impressed by the hospitality of the staff, the quality of the cuisine, and the onsen experience. The staff seemed well-trained, which allowed us to have a comfortable stay. I wish everyone continued success in their endeavors. The meals were perfectly portioned, offering a variety of flavors that we thoroughly enjoyed. The quality of the onsen was remarkable; even after returning home, I was amazed at how smooth my skin felt. Additionally, having stretching equipment and a massage chair in the room was another highlight of our stay. The only downside would be that Wi-Fi in the room was weak and unusable; however, it worked seamlessly in the lobby area. It would be great if Wi-Fi could be improved to work at a similar level within the rooms. This is one accommodation I genuinely look forward to visiting again someday soon. Once again, thank you very much for everything!

    Renovated Room

    The atmosphere of the Room was excellent. The meals were also very delicious.

    Is it worth the price? The shower only offers cold water or scalding hot water, and I caught a cold because of it.

    Due to a sudden trip to Kinugawa, we stayed at this accommodation with our family. The food was delicious. However, the portions were the same as for adults, which was too much for children. When some food was left uneaten, a Japanese staff member made unpleasant remarks like "What a waste, aren't you going to eat it?" Regarding the bath, the public bath was crowded, so we used the shower in our room. Unfortunately, only scalding hot water or cold water came out of the shower in the room, and we ended up catching colds after returning home. We also tried using a private bath; however, its shower space was outdoors and might have contributed to catching colds as well. While foreign staff members were pleasant and welcoming, it is disappointing that these issues exist with the facility itself.

    Excellent customer service.

    Pros... As others have mentioned, the hospitality at this Ryokan is truly outstanding. Many of the staff are foreigners, but they speak polite Japanese and their attentive service is impressive. The Room shows some age but is very spacious. The semi-private dining area is clean, and the food is incredibly delicious. Cons... It’s unclear if it comes from the staff room, but there’s a strong smell of cigarettes lingering in the 4th-floor hallway that even reaches into the Room. The humidifier tank in the Room was not clean, which was disappointing. The public bath operates on a gender-swapping schedule; one has only two washing stations, which can be inconvenient for women. Only one large and one small towel are provided per person in each set. However, with such delicious meals and above all exceptional hospitality from the staff, it was an enjoyable stay at this Ryokan that left us with a positive impression by the end of our trip!

    It was a very lovely accommodation.

    The meals were absolutely delicious. We enjoyed the shabu-shabu, soy milk hot pot, and not only the meat but also the vegetables were very tasty. The handmade tofu was also delightful. The staff had wonderful smiles and treated us kindly. Their manner of speaking was polite and heartfelt. We stayed in a room with a private open-air bath this time. We spent almost the entire day soaking in it. It would have been perfect if it were an onsen, but at this price, that would be too luxurious. It was a small accommodation where we could relax peacefully. Thank you very much!

    To celebrate my boyfriend's birthday.

    I used the Anniversary Plan for a surprise trip for my boyfriend's birthday this time! The staff's courteous service and smiles were very nice!! The dinner and breakfast were incredibly delicious and perfect! As a memento, the hotel took a two-shot photo of us, and the next day it was neatly packaged in a frame, which made my boyfriend very happy! I would love to stay at this hotel again! Thank you very much!

    As the title suggests. Most of the staff who assisted were foreigners, but their language was polite, and their Japanese was very easy to understand. They provided explanations and guidance very courteously! I had some expectations for the meals, but they were rather ordinary. The service and the view were good, and the Room was comfortable, but I felt like I would want to eat the meals twice. Also, I would like them to fix the fact that there are no towels in the large public bath, and you have to bring them from the Room (if not, please prepare more), and I would like them to have brushes available. I'm really torn about repeating my stay... But I am grateful to everyone who served me. I was healed!

    Very cozy Hotel

    The service was polite, and I had a pleasant time. Although it was during the period when the exterior wall was being renovated and surrounded by scaffolding, the view was not obstructed, and it was a room with a full starry sky. I reserved a room with a bath, and the room was spacious, with a cute shape for the bedroom and terrace bath, which was very satisfying. The breakfast and dinner were also delicious. I will use it again.

    It was very good.

    The service, food, and Room were all wonderful. The large public bath also had reclining chairs placed inside the bathtub, which was very relaxing and very nice. The bath attached to the Room was also something I don't often experience, so I enjoyed using it very much. As for the Room's balcony, it was made of somewhat old wood and gave a slightly unsanitary impression. Normally, it wouldn't bother me that much, but when it comes to bathing, I think I would have been more satisfied if it were made of a newer material with a sense of cleanliness. However, the service attitude was excellent, and everything was handled with care, allowing me to spend a very comfortable time. I would like to visit again.
