We had a comfortable stay.
Even after setting the navigation system, the destination disappeared along the way. Feeling a bit uneasy, we followed the signboards and drove deeper into the mountains on narrow roads—then suddenly, there was the Accommodation entrance. The warm light that appeared in that moment was a real relief. The staff’s welcome and service were also very courteous. We headed straight to the private indoor bath in our Room. Just as I was about to soak in the retro-style tub that felt like an old hot-spring cure retreat, a large hornet—stuck and unable to get out through the window—greeted us first. We somehow dealt with it using the free-flowing natural hot spring water (quite hot). Once adjusted to just the right temperature, it felt amazing on the skin and was incredibly relaxing. When my wife took her turn, this time a rhinoceros beetle stopped by to say hello. Just as explained in advance by the Accommodation, we had a rare experience surrounded by rich nature. From the scenic open-air bath, we enjoyed views of mountains stretching out as if they were ours alone. The meals were also carefully prepared. We were able to spend a truly unhurried time here. Thank you very much.

The open-air bath is spacious! It’s also great that you can do a bit of cooking. The Room was large, and we were able to relax comfortably. We’d like to stay again.

I stayed in the detached Room (Ruri), and the view from the private open-air bath was amazing! The Room was spacious and comfortable. I would love to stay again!

The bath and meals are excellent.
The room had a large bath and a big window, giving it an open-air bath-like feel, which was fantastic. Since it was in the room, it was nice to be able to use it whenever we wanted. Although the washing area was cold because it was semi-open-air, we had no issues as we could warm up before shampooing. The room was spacious and relaxing, and the wood stove in the lobby had a pleasant scent of firewood. Above all, the food was incredibly delicious; everything was tasty, but I was particularly surprised by the deliciousness of the vegetables served as appetizers at dinner. It was my first time trying walnut tofu, and it was so good that I want to have it again!

Large Open-Air Bath
I stayed for one night in the special room at Tengawa Sanso (Tengawa Sanso) in Kumamoto Prefecture in October 2024. It was a two-story lodge with a large open-air bath, and I had a wonderful time. I was able to immerse myself in the nature of the mountains. It was a bit expensive, but it was well worth it. It ranks among the top three stays I've ever had. I highly recommend experiencing it.

A property you'll want to visit again
We stayed at the property with my husband during the October holiday. In a word, it was "wonderful." I will introduce the points that made me feel this way, divided by department. 【Cuisine】 - Ingredients and tableware selection that evoke a sense of the season - Elegant and gentle seasoning - The rice is delicious because the water is good - More dishes than we could eat 【Service】 - A comfortable distance that does not make you feel uncomfortable - The enthusiasm of the young staff was conveyed, and it was very likable 【Room】 - The deck overlooking the greenery and the spacious indoor bath with a sense of elegance were the best - Spacious room 【Onsen】 - Both the room bath and the panoramic open-air bath were absolutely wonderful. The quality of the spring water suited my skin, making it surprisingly white and smooth. My husband's skin also became smooth and white. The scenery was wonderful, and the temperature of the water was just right, so we bathed more than 10 times even though we stayed for only one night. The journey to the panoramic bath was like an attraction and enjoyable. Originally, we wanted a different property, but since our travel schedule was on a public holiday in October, it was difficult to make a reservation, and we chose this property because there happened to be a vacancy. It was our first time at Hinoe Onsen, and it was in the mountains with an old building. There were also posts about many insects, so I was a bit anxious, but as a result, it became a property I want to visit again. Since I wrote only good things, here are a few negative points. - The amenities were DHC, which was disappointing. I don't seek stylishness, but I felt that cosmetics unique to Kumamoto would be better. - The smell of the room was a bit concerning. I think this is characteristic of an old building, and measures were taken with air purifiers, so whether it bothers you or not depends on the person. Personally, the comfort was enough to override it. - There was a musty smell from the table where we ate. This is probably because it was wiped with a cloth where bacteria had grown. It made me lose my appetite a bit. - I was looking forward to the all-you-can-drink local sake as mentioned in a post, but it was two bottles of beer. It would have been fine if I liked beer, but... Despite saying various things, overall, it is a wonderful property. I plan to recommend it to others.

A trip to celebrate my daughter's engagement
We traveled with six people, including my daughter's fiancé's parents and son, and our family of three, to celebrate my daughter's engagement. This was the second night of our 2-night, 3-day trip visiting Beppu Yufuin in Oita, Takachiho Gorge in Miyazaki, and Aso in Kumamoto. 1. About the guest room and amenities: The room had a bedroom, a Japanese-style room, a terrace, and an open-air bath, allowing us to relax comfortably. The drinks in the refrigerator were free, and coffee, tea, and snacks were provided. I was surprised to find cold barley tea prepared for post-bath drinks. The downside was that a gecko appeared in the Japanese-style room, which startled us. My 29-year-old daughter froze and sought help from my wife. 2. About the hot springs and bath: The open-air bath in the room was very spacious, accommodating about eight people, and the water temperature was just right, allowing my wife and me to enjoy it leisurely. We had about an hour before dinner upon arriving at the inn, so all six of us headed to the sky open-air bath. The unique experience of taking a monorail to the mountaintop was interesting. The view from the bath was magnificent, with the sunset adding to the wonderful location, and everyone was very satisfied. 3. About the facilities and equipment: The entrance had a mountain lodge style, and the carvings on the lobby chairs and tables were excellent. A fireplace was installed in the corner, making me feel it must be cold in winter. 4. About the meals: We were treated to champagne to celebrate my daughter's engagement. The appetizers looked so wonderful that we couldn't help but take photos, and my daughter eagerly snapped pictures. There were many dishes, and the salt-grilled yamame was delicious. The charcoal-grilled meat and vegetables matched the mountain lodge-style inn. The meal was very satisfying. Breakfast also had a wide variety and was delicious. 5. About satisfaction: 4 points. It would have been a perfect 5 if the gecko hadn't appeared. Overall, we were very satisfied, and the fiancé's parents and son were also very pleased.
