    We were completely satisfied with both the Facilities and the services during our stay.

    We stayed in the Force Room. Thank you for accommodating our last-minute Reservation.\nAlthough the Room is a separate building with a thatched roof, it is not an old traditional house; the interior has the latest facilities, so we were able to stay as comfortably as we would at a city Hotel.\nFrom the Room, we could see the thatched roofs of other rooms, and it felt like we had traveled back in time to another world.\nWe used the spacious open-air bath in our Room; the hot spring water was slightly cloudy with mineral deposits floating on top, and it was wonderful.\nThe large public bath is also right by the river, offering an open, airy feel and an excellent location.\nHighly recommended Accommodation.

    I felt completely refreshed, both physically and mentally.

    The hot spring water was gentle on the skin, with a temperature that was just right—neither too hot nor too lukewarm—and we thoroughly enjoyed everything from the large public bath to the private bath in the annex. The meals were not served in our Room, but it was pleasant to take a walk after bathing. Every dish was excellent; the ingredients were high quality, expertly prepared, and truly delicious. We were also deeply comforted by the kind hospitality of everyone at the Accommodation. We would definitely like to visit again. The only reason I gave 4 points for Facilities is that the refrigerator was located farthest from the living area, in the changing room/vanity area, which was a bit inconvenient to use. Other than that, we were completely satisfied.

    Wonderful!

    Until we arrived, my husband and I kept wondering, “Are we on the right road?” But when we reached Miyama Sanso, we were amazed by the absolutely wonderful location! The Room was a private standalone villa, and the bath was fed directly from the source with free-flowing Onsen water. Meals are served in the dining area, and once again we were impressed by the staff’s service and how delicious everything was. We were able to enjoy a relaxing adults-only getaway. The Onsen water was simply perfect, and it left our skin feeling silky smooth. We were also delighted that two types of loungewear were provided: samue and pajamas. This is an Accommodation we would love to visit again—worth flying back for.

    Although it rained during our stay, spring flowers were in full bloom across the grounds, and we were able to spend a peaceful, relaxing time at a leisurely pace. The Room was clean, the bath was excellent, and the meals were delicious. The staff were also courteous and kind, and we were very satisfied.

    A Once-a-Year Retreat at Miyama Sanso

    I used to stay here every winter, but this time I visited in late March! The seasonal cuisine was delicious, and both the in-Room bath and the large public bath were excellent! The cherry blossoms weren’t in full bloom yet, but I got to enjoy a charm you can’t experience in winter. I’d love to stay again!!

    The finest Accommodation to satisfy both body and soul

    They upgraded our Room on the day of our stay, and we were able to relax and enjoy a very comfortable time. Both the Onsen in the large public bath and the Onsen in our Room were wonderful, and the open-air bath surrounded by nature with the soothing sound of the stream was especially outstanding.

    A stylish countryside atmosphere

    I was able to enjoy the Onsen in peace. The atmosphere was wonderfully created, making me wish I had a countryside hometown like this. The bath in the Room was spacious, and the continuously flowing Onsen water temperature was just right—not too hot or too lukewarm—so I could truly relax. I also enjoyed the large public bath. The seasoning of the meals was just right for our age group, and it paired well with alcohol. Each appetizer was thoughtfully prepared and delicious. It was excellent hot-spring water. I had a very relaxing stay. Thank you!

    The staff is excellent.

    I stayed with my elderly mother. Despite being busy, the staff provided smooth and pleasant shuttle service from the pick-up to our room and dining area using a cart. During meals, their thoughtful and kind words were much appreciated. Although it was a cold season and we couldn't enjoy the flowers, the garden seemed like a place worth visiting in spring or autumn. The bath was filled with natural flowing hot spring water, which was excellent, but both the indoor and outdoor baths felt too cold before getting into the water. The room had a sunken kotatsu, was well-cleaned, and provided a comfortable stay. It would be nice to have a simple shop where souvenirs or drinks could be purchased.

    Excellent

    The room was clean, and the bath was spacious and nice. However, it was disappointing that the warm dishes at dinner were not served warm. Other than that, I am satisfied. I would like to visit again.

    I used this for my annual trip.

    The furnishings in the Room were wonderful, and I had a very comfortable stay. I also appreciated the guided tour of the premises by cart. However, since the Room included a bath, it would have been nice to have some beer or juice stocked in the refrigerator. I added horse sashimi to my dinner, and it was absolutely delicious when enjoyed with the garlic chips on the side. Additionally, I was very pleased with the hot coffee service provided upon departure.

    Recently, even at relatively high-end accommodations, the service staff's attitude has often been lacking. However, here, the young female staff member provided exceptional service with a constant bright smile and clear communication, leaving a very positive impression. The bath was truly satisfying with its excellent Onsen quality unique to Kurokawa Onsen. However, I was slightly disappointed that the restroom only offered paper hand towels instead of cloth ones. Additionally—though this is not the accommodation's fault—the dining experience was somewhat unpleasant due to the poor table manners of a young foreign guest seated nearby. Their loud chewing noises during both breakfast and dinner were quite bothersome.

    Relax and unwind in a safe and serene space at Kurokawa Onsen.

    What is this sense of comfort? That was my first impression upon entering the Room. Perhaps it’s the spaciousness; I was able to relax and unwind. The rice grown on-site and the Room's bath were also delightful. Thank you very much.

    A Time to Relax Both Mind and Body

    A quiet accommodation nestled in a countryside landscape with impressive thatched-roof rooms scattered amidst the fresh air of Aso's great nature. Enjoy the gentle sulfur onsen with natural hot spring water flowing directly from the source. Relax in nature and fully enjoy the onsen for an incredibly luxurious experience. The rooms are spacious, the garden is beautiful, and both the indoor and open-air baths attached to the room are exceptional. The meals were delicious, and all staff members were warm and kind. I would love to stay here again!

    The atmosphere of th...

    The atmosphere of the accommodation was pleasant. However, as others have mentioned, the food was not tasty (though the portions were large). Considering the accommodation fee, it seems that most of it goes towards facilities like the onsen and maintenance rather than the quality of meals. Additionally, foreign staff served our meals but placed them from a very far distance and even took orders from afar, which surprised me. The explanations were also unclear. Lastly, I wish there was a better hairdryer in the room.

    Bath

    The hot water was great. However, the outdoor bath of the Room needs cleaning. I slipped and got a bump on my head. I recommend cleaning it.

    I stayed during Gold...

    I stayed during Golden Week. It was a luxurious trip for me due to the timing and cost. However, I was slightly disappointed as the room bath and main onsen were too lukewarm to enjoy, sake ordered at dinner was just placed on the table without being poured, the room's refrigerator was only in the dressing area, and the shampoo in the main building's onsen was a 2-in-1 type. That said, when I mentioned the temperature of the room bath, they promptly came to adjust it, and the atmosphere within the facility was very pleasant. So I don't regret staying here entirely but felt that for this price range, perhaps I could have chosen somewhere better. I believe these issues are not due to those working onsite but suggest that management take some time to study what amenities and services are currently popular at other onsen accommodations.

    Highly satisfied.

    The spacious and clean Room was very comfortable, allowing us to fully enjoy the Onsen. The underfloor heating was also a nice touch. On the day of our stay, snow had fallen, and my parents were delighted with the snowy view from the bath in our Room. However, the stairs leading to the Room were covered in snow, which made it dangerous for my elderly parents. It might have been better if we had been guided to a slope without stairs at first.

    Enjoy an Extraordinary Experience

    We were worried about reaching the accommodation due to unseasonal snow, but the staff kindly informed us about the snowy road conditions, which was very helpful. The spacious and relaxing detached room was so comfortable that we wished we could stay another night. The carefully prepared meals had a seasonal touch, looked delicious, and were well explained by the staff who served them. Thanks to this experience, we created wonderful memories with our parents who are over 80 years old. Thank you! The bath rating is four stars because the women's large public bath at the neighboring Yamamizuki was very hot. However, I heard that the men's bath was just right, so it might have been a coincidence. The temperature of both Miyama Sanso's large public bath and our room's private bath was perfect, and we enjoyed them multiple times.

    The Onsen in the roo...

    The Onsen in the room was something I was looking forward to, but it seems there was a boiler malfunction, making the water either too lukewarm or too hot to enjoy. Additionally, there was only one set of towels in the room and no face towels for the washroom, which felt insufficient. Overall, it was a disappointing experience.

    Revisiting within one year.

    We stayed for one night as a couple last March, and this time, we decided to stay for two nights with our family of four since one night wouldn't be enough. The Onsen's water quality is excellent, and the meals are very generous. We thought the pork shabu-shabu would be too much for four people, but the light fat made it easy to finish. The rice grown in the accommodation's own fields was also delicious. The staff were friendly, and we were grateful that they remembered us from our previous visit. My 87-year-old mother said this was the best accommodation she has ever stayed at. We look forward to visiting again during a season when Mount Aso's greenery is at its best.

    Thank you for your hospitality. It was great!

    There was dirt on the glass in the Room, but otherwise very satisfied. Perfect for a reward trip, and if we go to Kurokawa again, we would like to use it, as we were satisfied as a couple.

    The bath is wonderful!

    The bath in the main building is simply amazing. Among the Onsen I've visited, it ranks at the top. I went in early on a weekday, so there was no one else, and I had all the baths to myself! It was an incredible feeling. The meals were delicious, and I was impressed by the hospitality and service provided by the young staff. I was also delighted to see the starry sky from the open-air bath in the Room. I would love to visit again.

    Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this Ryokan to anyone.

    Stayed for a Multiple Night Stay of 2 nights. Arrived early, so waited until 3 PM. As soon as I entered the Room, it was cold. Despite knowing I would arrive early and check-in, there was no consideration to warm the Room. There was a photo of a kotatsu, but it was not usable yet. Since the kotatsu was not usable, I thought I had no choice but to use the air conditioner, but it was full of dust! I immediately requested cleaning. Then, I went to the large public bath. First, the indoor bath in the large public bath was lukewarm. When I entered the open-air bath, it was even more lukewarm like water, and I couldn't stay in it. I had no choice but to warm my body with a shower. The meal on the first day was not tasty, and I left most of it uneaten. During the meal, a staff member came to apologize that the Onsen in the Room had become hot quickly, so I mentioned that the Onsen in the large public bath was too lukewarm to enter, and they said it seemed the pump had stopped. If I hadn't mentioned it, they would have stayed silent without an apology. Normally, wouldn't you inform the customer of such matters by phone? The Room was still dusty, and I couldn't rest comfortably. I was so troubled that I wanted to cancel the second night, but since there were no other available Stays on the day, I gave up. On the second day, when I requested an additional bath towel, I was told there would be an extra charge. When I mentioned that I wasn't told that on the first day, they said they would check. Later, they said there would be no extra charge since it wasn't mentioned on the first day. Is there such a place? And strangely, the meal on the second day was normally delicious. The person who attended to us was also proper. It's strange that only the meal on the second day of a Multiple Night Stay is delicious. My foreign friends and Japanese friends who love Onsen said it was a place of interest, but I told them it was so terrible that I couldn't recommend it. The Review on IKYU wasn't bad, so it was very disappointing. Overall, everything was stingy, and if it were a cheap Property, it would be understandable, but it was very disappointing. The response was also bad, and I deeply regretted choosing this place. There are many other things I think about, but I will never use it again. It was a very unpleasant and exhausting worst trip.

    Blue Bird

    Is this about the fifth time I've stayed here? The thatched roof makes it feel like a time slip. The indoor bath with 24-hour free-flowing hot spring water. I was very healed after a long time at this inn with delicious food. I thought I might get bored always staying at the same place, so I tried various other accommodations, but... for us, Miyama Sanso is the best. Visiting after a long time... I realized that I had already found the bluebird.
