    It was the best night’s stay.

    I stayed one night at Sanga in Kurokawa Onsen, in the “Natsutsubaki” Room. Above all, the hospitality was outstanding, and the thoughtful attention—never intrusive—made my entire stay very comfortable. The meals were delicious and thoroughly satisfying. Although it rained during my stay, the damp weather only enhanced the Accommodation’s serene atmosphere, to the point that I felt I had actually come on a good day. The Room was kept very clean; given the natural setting, insects do appear from time to time, but I appreciated that insect repellent was properly provided. It’s an Accommodation I would love to stay at again.

    It was a very nice Ryokan. The food, the baths, the service, and even the Jersey milk after bathing were all excellent. There were many international guests as well, but everyone was quiet and respectful, which I appreciated. Just one point: my child’s rate was half price, but the meal was a kids’ plate. Since my child doesn’t like “kid-style” dishes such as fried shrimp, they ate from the adults’ meal instead, and I ended up eating the kids’ meal. I would have appreciated being informed in advance that children would be served a different dinner.

    It was a wonderful Accommodation, just as described in the Reviews.

    After comparing several Accommodations in Kurokawa Onsen, we chose to stay here, and it truly lived up to the Reviews—an outstanding Accommodation. The staff’s hospitality, the calm and comfortable Room, and above all, the meals exceeded our expectations. We chose the in-room dinner Plan featuring Aso Akaushi beef steak; every dish was delicious, from the appetizers and sashimi made with local ingredients to a particularly memorable yamame trout. Breakfast also offered a wide variety of items, allowing us to enjoy more local flavors. The Onsen was equally satisfying—both the open-air bath and the private family bath had wonderful character. This time we stayed for one night, but next time we would like a Multiple Night Stay so we can relax and fully enjoy the Onsen. There is just one area I hope can be improved. The shampoo and conditioner provided in the Room left my hair feeling slightly difficult to manage afterward. I have straight hair and don’t usually pay much attention to hair texture, but I still noticed a difference. If the quality could be reviewed, I believe the stay would be even more comfortable. Overall, this is an Accommodation with exceptionally high satisfaction, and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Kurokawa Onsen.

    A lovely, refined Ryokan

    Our family of four stayed here. This is a wonderful Ryokan with attentive yet understated service. I’m not sure what it’s like if your Room does not have a private Onsen, but we were very satisfied. It made us feel the charm of Japan in the good old days.

    An Accommodation that soothes you from the bottom of your heart

    This time, we stayed at an Accommodation in Yufuin Onsen. It was my first time visiting this Onsen, and I had imagined a large hot spring town, but in a good way it exceeded my expectations—it was a small, calm town with a relaxing atmosphere. As for the Accommodation, while driving along the mountain road we suddenly found a side road leading to a serene place that blends into nature. The Accommodation itself feels like part of the forest, and my excitement rose instantly. We arrived before check-in, so the Accommodation’s shuttle took us to the Onsen town. After having lunch there, one phone call was all it took for them to pick us up right away—completely stress-free. There were about seven baths, and at check-in you Reserve a private family bath time slot. At first, our preferred bath wasn’t available during breakfast hours, but the attendant kindly adjusted our breakfast time so we could use it. With such an outstanding setting, I truly recommend this Accommodation to anyone looking to detox and unwind. The meals were delicious—perfect after travel fatigue—with tasty river fish dishes. I gave the Room 3 points because it was Japanese-style tatami; however, there were also Rooms with beds, and I think I would probably give 5 points if I stayed in one of those. This Hotel has become one of the places I’d like to return to every year.

    Celebrating My Father’s 70th Birthday

    It was a truly wonderful Accommodation. We stayed with a group of seven. The meals were delicious, and the Onsen water quality was excellent. As expected of Kurokawa Onsen, we were able to enjoy many different types of baths. My father was genuinely delighted, and as his daughter I felt I was able to show him meaningful appreciation—something I’m very happy about. The cleaning was also done very thoroughly and frequently, making it an Accommodation where we could feel at ease even with children. We would love to stay again.

    Everything is exceptional.

    This Accommodation was outstanding in every way. Every dish we were served was delicious, and the timing of each course was excellent, making for a highly satisfying dining experience. The baths offered two different types of water, and both were wonderful. We also thoroughly enjoyed all three private baths and were very satisfied.

    Wonderful

    When I visited the Onsen for a day trip three years ago, I hoped to stay overnight next time. That wish finally came true on this return visit—and it was wonderful. We stayed in a lovely detached Room with a view of the gently flowing stream from the window. The open-air bath was almost private, so we could relax and soak for as long as we liked. The meals were all carefully prepared and delicious, and we left completely satisfied. The reservation-only family bath was also excellent (the six-shaku barrel bath is highly recommended—it fills up quickly). If you’re unsure which Accommodation to choose, I highly recommend staying here at least once (the photos are only a small selection).

    Relax in a free-flowing natural hot spring.

    Both the open-air bath and the private family bath have plenty of hot water, leaving you relaxed in both body and mind. The meals were so plentiful I wondered if I could finish them, and the “Special Selection Horse Sashimi” offered a variety of cuts and was delicious. The staff were courteous and kind, providing attentive service.

    The trip was ruined.

    I won’t be coming here again. I had high expectations because it’s Kurokawa Onsen, but I was disappointed. I think it would be much better to stay at a Hotel in Kumamoto City and visit the Onsen on a day trip. I thought IKYU only listed high-quality Accommodations, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. From next time, I’ll do more research when choosing an Accommodation—lesson learned.

    Regrettable Accommodation

    The futon was thin, and the Room was very cold; it was impossible to sleep without the air conditioning on. The next day, I found out there was floor heating, but there had been no prior explanation. There were many Korean guests, and I strongly felt a lack of staff due to aging and understaffing. They mentioned being busy with filming arrangements and police matters (regarding a peeping incident), but that’s no excuse. Meals were average and not suitable for a Multiple Night Stay as they were almost identical each day. The only highlight might have been the rice ball enjoyed at Mount Aso's Takadake summit—breathtaking views! The Yamanami Highway and Milk Road through the stunning Aso mountains left an unforgettable impression; it felt like being in another country. While I considered returning with my Turbo S Cabriolet next time, nothing compares to the beauty of horses here.

    First Visit to Kurokawa Onsen

    When planning a trip to Kurokawa Onsen, I researched various accommodations and found this one, instantly deciding I wanted to stay here. I stayed for 2 nights and 3 days, and everything—from the meals to the onsen quality, service, and atmosphere—was absolutely perfect. It was a family trip, and my mother especially loved it, which made me very happy. The staff were incredibly attentive and provided thoughtful care throughout our stay with exceptional hospitality. I am deeply grateful for their kindness. The accommodation is designed like a miniature garden, offering a unique space different from the onsen town itself—a feature I personally enjoyed very much. The only downside was that the shower temperature was lukewarm in November, which felt slightly cold; however, I would definitely choose this place again when visiting Kurokawa Onsen!

    Mother's Birthday and My 60th Birthday Celebration

    We stayed here for the first time to celebrate my mother's birthday and my 60th birthday. Upon arrival, all our heavy luggage was kindly delivered to our room, and everyone was very friendly. They prepared a red vest for my 60th birthday celebration, took photos for us, and brought it to us during dinner. The onsen was wonderful as expected, and every dish we had was absolutely delicious. At the end of the meal, two staff members brought out a dessert with celebratory writing while singing "Happy Birthday." It made us feel so warm inside and created such a memorable experience. We were able to relax fully and had an incredibly comfortable stay. Thank you very much! This is definitely an accommodation we would love to visit again.

    An accommodation worth revisiting.

    This was my first visit to Kurokawa Onsen, and I believe choosing this accommodation was the right decision. Although it is located away from the onsen center and I couldn't try other accommodations' baths, for a one-night stay, the baths here were more than satisfying. Being away from other accommodations allowed me to fully enjoy the rustic atmosphere, making it an ideal environment for "rejuvenation." Since I'm coming from Tokyo, it's not an area I can visit frequently, but I definitely want to return to this accommodation.

    It was a wonderful accommodation.

    The accommodation was exceptional in every aspect: ambiance, design, hospitality, cuisine, and onsen. We enjoyed a wonderful time with friends we hadn't seen in a while, thanks to the beautifully presented and delicious meals and warm service. The onsen experience was delightful; even just the private open-air bath in the room was sufficient. However, there were multiple onsens available that we couldn't fully explore. When visiting Kurokawa Onsen again, I would definitely love to stay here! It would be perfect if cotton tips and makeup cleansing amenities were provided.

    The staff provided polite and pleasant service. The building felt slightly old but had charm and was well-cleaned. Although we arrived early, we were allowed to check in. We enjoyed two private baths, and both the indoor and outdoor public baths were very relaxing. The meals were just the right amount and delicious. Thank you very much!

    I stayed at Nemunoki Accommodation, and first of all, the room's bath was excellent. The quality of the spring water was outstanding, leaving my skin moisturized no matter how many times I bathed. Additionally, the meals were very delicious. I would love to stay here again next time.

    A charming and atmospheric accommodation. Located on the outskirts of Kurokawa Onsen, it offers a quiet and serene ambiance. Stayed in the detached "Natsutsubaki" room. The meals were abundant, visually delightful, and absolutely delicious—every dish was a treat. Both the open-air bath and indoor bath feature natural flowing hot spring water, providing a luxurious experience!

    It was a very nice a...

    It was a very nice accommodation. The meals were great, especially the rice was delicious. The bath could be reserved for private use free of charge, and complimentary lemongrass tea or coffee was available after bathing. Additionally, they kindly took a family photo for free, which was a thoughtful service for guests. Thank you very much for carrying our luggage from the parking lot to the room.

    A Ryokan Beyond Expectations

    The Onsen at Kurokawa is amazing. Though the water is hot, you quickly get used to it, and it feels so good that you can't help but say, "What a great bath!" My shoulder joint pain eased significantly. The atmosphere of the Ryokan, the room, the meals, and the hospitality of the staff all exceeded expectations and left me completely satisfied.     Although it was unfortunately raining during our stay, the staff took great care to ensure we stayed dry upon arrival and even offered thoughtful services like preparing rain boots when stepping outside to go to the bath. The meals were all homemade and delicious, leaving us very satisfied. The room was impeccably clean and had a very calming atmosphere. All the staff members greeted us with smiles and provided courteous service, allowing us to enjoy a pleasant time until the very end. We would love to stay here again in the future.     Accommodation Blending with Nature

    I stayed at the "Nemunoki" detached accommodation. The room was nestled in a quiet forest, and I enjoyed both the indoor bath and open-air onsen at my leisure. I also indulged in two private open-air baths, spending a luxurious time. Each dish of the meal was incredibly delicious, and the staff were friendly and approachable. The shuttle service for the evening "Yuakari" event was also very helpful. Choosing Sanga among Kurokawa Onsen accommodations turned out to be an excellent decision!

    The Onsen, meals, and hospitality are all excellent.

    There are three types of private family baths, and you can use them as many times as you like if they are available. The shared indoor bath is small and feels full with about five people. (The women's bath has only two washing areas) On the other hand, the open-air bath is very spacious and open. (No washing area) The meals were all delicious and exquisite. The portion size for dinner was modest, leaving us about 80% full. Other Ryokans often serve too much dinner, making it difficult to move for a while after eating, but here the portion was just right, allowing us to head to the bath after a moderate rest. I think the portion size is just right for the elderly as well. It feels like quality over quantity. This time, we stayed in the middle of winter, and it was quite cold. Although I am used to the cold, having grown up in a snowy country, all the baths are located outdoors, and there is no heating in the changing rooms of the family baths, so even if you warm up in the Onsen, you are freezing by the time you return to your room. The temperature was below zero. If you are sensitive to the cold or have health concerns, you should carefully consider the timing of your stay. The room is as old as expected. It is very cold outside, but the air conditioning works well, so the room was not as cold as I thought. The staff's response was good, and it was a pleasant stay.

    A healing Stays where time passes leisurely

    Since it is located away from the town, it is quite difficult to wander around the city center, but you can spend your time relaxing. The meals were creatively prepared and very delicious. We went to the family bath first, so the top of the bathtub was hot and the bottom was cold, and when we stirred it, it became lukewarm and we couldn't get out easily. All the baths were warm for an Onsen, but we could take our time.
