    Excellent

My two classmates and I (three men, all 78 years old) stayed in the suite with a ceramic-style bath. The toilet was the same TOTO Neorest as we have at home, but the space around it felt a bit narrow. It would be better if the shower head holder in the bath were positioned lower. Dinner was delicious, but there was so much that we left quite a bit. Breakfast was a half-buffet; if possible, we would prefer a Japanese set meal. Everything was clean, and all of the staff were kind and courteous. We would like to stay again.

New and comfortable while located in Ginzan Onsen.

Located in the nostalgic retro Onsen town of Ginzan, Ginzan-so Ryokan offers modern and convenient facilities. The retro Onsen town is about a 15-minute walk downhill. While the daytime scenery was enjoyable, if you wish to experience the evening or nighttime views, you might consider dining at another restaurant as dinner at the Ryokan is served between 18:00 and 19:00. The uphill return can be challenging, but shuttle service is available upon request. Rainy or windy days may require extra preparation; raincoats, boots, and towels for foot baths are provided at the entrance. Currently, day-use Onsen services in Ginzan are suspended—possibly due to parking issues in this compact area. For those traveling by rental car, note that the Ryokan's parking lot is far from the facility and requires shuttle service for access. Once parked, retrieving your car can be inconvenient. Dinner seating options include traditional tatami mats or tables with chairs upon request. Breakfast features individual bento boxes with nine side dishes alongside rice, miso soup, grilled salmon, an Onsen egg, natto (fermented soybeans), and La France soft serve ice cream—no Western-style options were available. The roast beef served during dinner was tough to chew; however, other dishes like beef stew were delicious. Free drinks were included during meals but non-alcoholic beverages required an additional fee—a downside for non-drinkers who might prefer non-alcoholic beer options instead of alcohol. Service during meals felt rushed as plates were cleared while still eating and desserts arrived prematurely. The room featured two king-sized beds which seemed unnecessarily large for two people. Accessibility could be improved as there was a significant step up to reach the beds—possibly designed for better TV viewing given its oversized screen size (which also felt excessive). The semi-open-air Onsen attached to the room maintained a fixed temperature of 42°C—comfortable but potentially unsuitable for those sensitive to higher temperatures since adjustments aren't possible. Free drink services within the facility included coffee along with alcoholic beverages like beer and sake; however again no suitable alternatives such as low-alcohol or non-alcoholic beers were offered—a disappointment for guests who do not consume alcohol.
