    An Accommodation where the staff’s warm hospitality stays with you

    A small, quiet Accommodation nestled partway up the slope in Gora. The guest Rooms don’t feel brand-new, but they are equipped with all the essentials, and we didn’t find anything inconvenient. We were told the property used to be a retreat facility, and the Room we stayed in was so spacious it felt like it may have once been a party room. The in-room jacuzzi was especially relaxing under a clear blue sky, making for a truly luxurious time. The large public bath and open-air bath offered excellent water quality, and we were able to fully enjoy an authentic Onsen experience with free-flowing natural spring water. On the other hand, the bathing area does show its age in places—some piping is exposed and certain areas lack handrails—which stood out slightly. During our stay, construction was underway on an adjacent building, and large sections were covered with white soundproof sheeting, which was a bit disappointing from a scenic standpoint. As I was dining solo, I was seated at the counter. The food was delicious overall; however, the prep counter in front of me felt somewhat untidy, and I also noticed some smudges on the glass partition. In addition, while photos of the Accommodation featured an impressive spiny lobster dish, what was served was smaller and without the head, which felt different from what I had expected—though this may vary by season. There are no drink vending machines inside the property, but water, coffee, and tea are available freely at any time. If you would like other beverages, it’s best to purchase them in advance. I wasn’t feeling well during my stay, but all staff members were incredibly kind and attentive in their support. Thanks to their care I recovered by the next day and could continue my trip without issue. While some aspects of the Facility feel dated, they are more than made up for by outstanding hospitality. Whether through Shuttle Service arrangements or interactions at reception or in the restaurant area (including service), their warmth left a lasting impression—making this a memorable stay where you can truly feel people’s kindness.

    It was my first time...

    It was my first time in Hakone Gora, and I was able to relax at this quiet Accommodation surrounded by forest. From the welcome drink onward, the meals kept coming—an indulgent dinner with plenty of cheese and meat. It was a bit too much for me, but everything was delicious. Breakfast was wonderful as well, with freshly cooked rice, miso soup, and rice topped with an Onsen egg—I thoroughly enjoyed a Japanese-style breakfast for the first time in a while. It is a small-scale Accommodation with a calm atmosphere; the Room was spacious enough, and there was also an open-air bath, which made it very convenient to use. I was happy to wake up to birdsong. All of the staff were very kind and attentive—thank you very much.

    It was a wonderful stay.

    The Room interior was stylish, and the jacuzzi was incredibly relaxing. The large public bath left my skin smooth and felt wonderful. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, and I was very satisfied.\nI would love to stay again.

    We stay here every year.

    Thank you as always. I stay in Hakone or Atami every month, and the meals and service here are better than those at luxury foreign-owned Hotels in Hakone or long-established Ryokan in Atami. The front desk staff provide attentive, detailed service—unlike part-time staff at other Hotels—which I really appreciate. Staying on weekdays offers great value and is highly recommended. If I had to mention one thing, the sashimi at dinner—especially the spiny lobster—was very fresh, but the freshness of some of the other sashimi was a bit lacking. It may be difficult to slice everything right before serving, but using freshness-preserving film would make it even better. Thank you again.

    Hmm… it wasn’t that great.

    What was good: Welcome drink + snacks 　　　　　　　　24-hour drink service What was disappointing: The set-course meal was overly elaborate and didn’t bring out the natural flavors of the ingredients. 　　　　　　　　　The Room is small. The chair facing the window feels like a bar counter, so it’s not comfortable to sit and relax—are you supposed to sit on the bed instead? 　　　　　　　　　The in-room bath is too open; it was extremely cold with wind blowing through. A smaller opening, like a window, would be sufficient. 　　　　　　　　　It feels less like an open-air bath and more like a bathtub placed outside. When you get in, you can clearly see the back of the building and a water tank. 　　　　　　　　　So there’s essentially no view, and you can’t enjoy the bath at all! I was hoping for a relaxing stay after golf, but it was disappointing. There is room for improvement.

    The meals are excellent.

    A smaller accommodation than it appears in the photos. From the door of the second-floor room, you can see the front desk, and I wondered if voices could be heard. Meals were served differently over our two-night stay, allowing us to enjoy them slowly and deliciously. We used the private stone sauna; however, the room was dark and a bit eerie, so we played music ourselves while using it. The bath had a clean changing room, but the outdoor bath was disappointing. The view was poor—it felt like just having a bath outside. Morning bathing revealed more surprises; at night it was too dark to notice, but looking up only showed dirty walls...and even windows of other rooms were visible. We unknowingly bathed there at night without realizing this detail. The outdoor bath in our room also took time to fill with water and cooled down during that process. In hindsight, staying in a room without an outdoor bath might have been fine too. It was nice being able to choose yukata robes and enjoy complimentary snacks and drinks until 4:30 PM!

    I used this place to celebrate my partner's birthday.

    I stayed at the accommodation for the first time on a birthday celebration trip, and I was deeply impressed by the cleanliness of the room, as well as the excellent food and service. I sincerely wish to visit again. When I called to discuss a surprise plan, they kindly assisted me, and on the day of my stay, everything went exactly as discussed over the phone. I would like to express my gratitude to all staff members, especially those who helped me from our initial phone conversation.

    I traveled with my mother, who uses a walker. I informed the Hotel about the walker in advance, and on the day of our stay, the staff kindly assisted my mother in various ways, which we deeply appreciated. The Room, the view from the Room, the meals, the Onsen, and the thoughtful care of the Hotel staff all became wonderful memories for my mother. Being able to give her such a lovely trip made it a truly joyful experience for our family as well. Thank you very much!

    First Time Visiting Gora

    I chose this Hotel because of its convenient access and the Room with an open-air bath. The building itself is not new, and the Room had a nostalgic atmosphere reminiscent of the Showa to early Heisei era. The open-air bath in the large public bath was simply outdoors without any scenic view to enjoy... Also, I regretted not checking properly as the Room's bath was not Onsen water. However, when I requested an early check-out, they kindly provided breakfast earlier than usual and were very helpful with any questions I had. The meals were well-portioned, and the meat was delicious. The option to try different types of sake was also a delightful choice. For breakfast, there was a pot filled with freshly cooked rice—so much that I wondered if it was all for just one person like me! It made me worry about what would happen to the leftover rice. Of course, the rice itself was very tasty!

    We stayed as a group...

    We stayed as a group of three, but only one futon was provided. It would be better to have more futons for sleeping. The meals, both breakfast and dinner, were delicious with good flavors and just the right portions. However, there were some facility issues such as doors not closing properly and problems with the roll screens; these should be fixed. The private open-air bath in the guest room was not hot enough, so we did not use it.

    Perhaps the timing of my stay was not ideal.

    I stayed over a long weekend, and the Accommodation cost exceeded JPY 80,000 with no discounts. I stay at a Ryokan in the Kanto area about 3–4 times a year during off-peak periods, usually in the JPY 70,000–90,000 range. Compared with those stays, the Room and in-house Facility here felt dated, and I honestly felt it was poor value for money. The elevator had a strong metallic odor like an old mixed-use building in a run-down area, and the Room lacked cleanliness—more like a budget Business Hotel in such an area. In addition, the shower pressure in the indoor bath was extremely weak; it was difficult even to rinse off before using the open-air bath attached to the guest room. Also, when making my Reservation I assumed that the open-air bath attached to the guest room was an Onsen, but it turned out to be just a regular bath, which was slightly disappointing (this was my mistake for not confirming and is not the Facility’s responsibility). ----- Of course, there were good points as well. The service was polite, and it was reassuring that all staff were Japanese. These days even high-end Ryokan often have many foreign staff members and explanations can sometimes be hard to understand, so I appreciated that aspect. The meals were generally delicious. The clay-pot rice at breakfast and rice topped with an Onsen egg with house-made soy sauce were especially good. ----- That said, because my mood had already dropped a bit by check-in time (my own fault), I found myself noticing flaws afterward—an unfortunate human tendency. Dinner seemed to feature domestic beef steak as the main dish, but it was formed meat, which was disappointing. (It seems higher-tier Plans use wagyu; if you say I should have upgraded my Plan then fair enough—but that would raise the price even more. And I don’t think one piece of meat would change overall satisfaction.) Also perhaps because dinner started all at once for everyone, it took nearly 10 minutes after being seated before drinks or food arrived—another disappointment. ----- Later I checked off-peak pricing and found it to be around JPY 30,000–40,000 for two people. At that price point I might not have had many complaints. However, if charging double as long-weekend pricing—even if aging facilities are unavoidable—I would like dissatisfaction related to service quality and staffing levels to be reduced. The welcome service also felt too simple for what we paid, and regarding the waiting time during meals mentioned earlier: since there were only two or three staff members present at that time of day/service period? adding just one more person seemed like it would improve things significantly. Even on a standard Plan? stopping serving formed meat would not feel like such a major loss on your side when considering how much higher long-weekend prices are compared with off-peak rates. ----- In summary, as per this review’s title? perhaps I simply chose an unfortunate time to stay. Thank you very much.

    The coolness of Hakone Gora and the mountain views are excellent!

    The theme of this couple's trip was to find an accommodation at a reasonable price since it wasn't for a special occasion. Koyoi is conveniently located in Hakone Gora. The room, though small, has an open-air bath with views of the Hakone mountains. We booked with the expectation that the meals would be simple but satisfactory. We often revisit accommodations or hotels we like through IKYU, but unfortunately, this won't be one of them. For reference, here is our review: **Positive Points** 1. Even in midsummer, Hakone Gora is cool and refreshing. The open-air bath in the room was enjoyable, and the mountain views from the room were soothing to look at. 2. While some parts of the facility felt dated, there was a sense of cleanliness overall. 3. The air conditioning worked well indoors and provided comfort during our stay; despite having several guest rooms within the facility, it was quiet and peaceful. **Negative Points** 1. **Food Quality:** - The main dish—Wagyu steak—was tough with too many tendons; even using a fork and knife made cutting difficult. It also had an aged smell that made it inedible. - Some sashimi lacked freshness and had a fishy odor. - The final dish was ume somen (plum-flavored noodles), which was poorly presented and lacked flavor—it left us wondering why it’s considered standard. - Even during breakfast, pork used in miso soup had an unpleasant smell. 2. **Facilities:** - Water pressure from the shower inside our bathroom was very low; washing hair became quite challenging. - Although we appreciated having an open-air bath with mountain views outside our room (despite its small size for one person), its proximity to parking lots/roads made it uncomfortable for women to use freely. - Additionally, while there’s a large communal bath available on-site as well—it felt lonely or eerie when entering alone at night without much ambiance around. 3. **Service:** While staff members being Japanese gave us some relief initially due their polite demeanor—their attentiveness fell short compared against expectations typical associated w/ryokans: e.g., no assistance carrying luggage up-to-front desk after greeting guests arriving via car park nor farewell gestures upon departure etc.. --- In conclusion: This ryokan feels more akin towards business hotel experience rather than traditional-style hospitality expected otherwise.. If someone prefers minimal interaction alongside skipping meal options altogether then perhaps they’d find staying here acceptable enough instead! However personally speaking based off prior stays elsewhere booked via IKYU.com where thoughtful touches such as warm welcomes paired alongside creative culinary efforts regardless whether premium ingredients involved always left lasting impressions behind unlike what occurred here unfortunately…

    Spontaneity is the best plan!

    Decided on a spontaneous Onsen trip and booked this Ryokan with a last-minute discount. Despite that, they upgraded our Room, which we truly appreciated. The location is convenient, the food was delicious with just the right portions and variety, and the Onsen was very relaxing. We had a wonderful holiday just as we imagined. Thank you!

    The service is smart and elegant...

    This was my first time staying here. I stayed with my elderly mother, and the meal portions were just right for women, though men might find them a bit small. We stayed in a Panorama View Twin Room, but the view included power lines and outdoor units up close, which was disappointing given our expectations. As mentioned in other reviews, the facilities are showing their age. While the surface appears clean, I was surprised by how much drainage noise from neighboring rooms could be heard (even though it wasn't an issue in our own room). Adding even just one towel rack to the private open-air bath would make it more convenient to use. The staff's service was excellent and made our stay very pleasant.

    Thank you for your stay. The facility feels a bit old, but it was quiet, cozy, and relaxing. The bath temperature and water quality were very satisfying. The Room was clean and well-prepared, which was nice. However, the air conditioning did not work very well. The atmosphere and BGM at the dinner venue were relaxing. However: - The explanation of the dishes was hard to hear and too long. - When I asked for a second serving of soup, I was told it would cost 1,150 yen, which surprised me. - Additionally, the drinks were overpriced. Breakfast had delicious rice but lacked side dishes; I ended up leaving some food behind. The meals did not match what I imagined from the photos on the website.

    The atmosphere was just as extraordinary as I imagined, and the food was delicious. Although some mentioned the portions were small, they were just right for me. However, due to the location of the room, guests from other accommodations could see into the open-air bath, so you need to be mindful of your timing when entering or exiting. It was my first visit, but I would love to come again if I have the chance! It became a wonderful memory.

    It is a great Ryokan.

    A great Ryokan. The breakfast was delicious. The indoor bath and the Room were spacious and comfortable. Dinner was Western-style (unfortunately). I enjoyed everything except the yellowtail fish. The yellowtail had a strong smell, so I couldn't finish it. I'm sure it has been taste-tested, and since I don't usually prefer sashimi, my opinion might not be very helpful.

    Enjoy a relaxing bath in the open-air hot spring overlooking Gora Park, accompanied by the sounds of warblers and birds singing. The meals were delicious. The staff provided excellent service, and the Room was clean and well-maintained, allowing for a comfortable stay. However, it was disappointing that our desired sake was unavailable, with no clear response regarding restocking. Additionally, the parking lot was narrow and difficult to park in, possibly due to its proximity to a factory.

    Quiet and offers delicious meals

    I visit Hakone and Atami every month, and the cost-performance of this accommodation tonight is excellent. No children staying, making it quiet, and the meals are delicious. The stone sauna and outdoor jacuzzi are highly rated. All staff members are kind, but the female staff are perfect. The covered parking is also a nice feature.

    The content introduced on the site was significantly different from reality.

    The content of the Room listed on the IKYU site was significantly different from reality, which was disappointing. The welcome drinks, snacks, and appetizers were second-rate, far from a place of relaxation for adults, which was disheartening. During dinner, other guests were noisy, the steak was tough and couldn't be chewed, the waitress couldn't answer questions, many plates were chipped, and the wallpaper in the bathroom had stains everywhere, showing signs of aging. I felt it wasn't worth the amount paid. I took the time to go to Gora, looking forward to a relaxing time, but despite choosing this Ryokan from the many Onsen Ryokans available, I felt I made the wrong choice. The bath was small, and the open-air bath was wooden and not filled with Onsen water, which was also disappointing. I never want to visit again, nor do I want to recommend it to my friends.

    I used this place for a thank-you party with my colleagues and seniors. The interior and the staff were wonderful, allowing us to experience an extraordinary atmosphere!! The pot in the Room was a bit moldy and difficult to use, but there was a water server right outside the Room, so we used that. When we headed to the breakfast venue, a female staff member remembered us as the group of three from Room 401 before we even introduced ourselves, and guided us smoothly. The two people who came with me were very pleased with this, thank you very much!! I would love to visit again if I have the chance, and if someone asks for a recommended Ryokan in Hakone, I would recommend this place!! Thank you very much.

    The meals are exquisite.

    The coffee service (with a De'Longhi machine available for guests to use freely) and meals are excellent. The guest room is somewhat disappointing. There were dead leaves inside the room, and the sofa and bed felt old. The bed was not comfortable for me. If the Onsen water was piped into the guest room, the satisfaction level would be very high.
