I have no prejudice against foreigners, but I felt there were situations where more consideration was needed—for example, keeping cleaning quiet and having Japanese staff handle things that are difficult to communicate.

    A Long-Awaited Stay

    This was my first time since the parking became paid. At first it was full, but I killed time inside the station and eventually managed to park. I used the large public bath in the 2 p.m. hour, but there was hair sunk all over the bottom of the tub, which was unpleasant. The changing room was clean, though... Do they not refill the bath every day? I was satisfied with both dinner and breakfast. It’s helpful that you can go for breakfast anytime within the serving hours, and I’m happy you can choose from three options on the spot.

    We had a relaxing stay.

    Since it is right in front of Echigo-Yuzawa Station, getting around was easy with almost no travel needed. I was able to use the foot bath and enjoy cake at the cafe as well. I chose a plan with breakfast only, without dinner. Breakfast felt a little less satisfying than before. Overall, I was satisfied. I booked a Room with an open-air bath and was able to use it many times.

    Bringing my elderly parents along.

    The three of us stayed here this time. We chose this property as a convenient base for autumn foliage spots, and because we had a good impression of their sister property, ryugon. The food exceeded our expectations—everything was delicious—and my parents were truly happy, so we’re glad we chose to stay here. All the staff were great, and since we booked a Room with an open-air bath, we were able to relax and take our time. However, there was no coffee in the Room. Tea was provided, but it felt a little lacking. Since the price is reasonable, I know I shouldn’t ask for too much (coffee is available in the lounge), but it would have been nice to be able to enjoy it casually in the Room. Also, having to pay for parking was a bit disappointing… though I suppose that’s because of the location right near the station… In any case, the meals here are well worth it, and we’d love to visit again in another season.

    The service is currently down.

    The service has clearly declined, which is very disappointing. I only had breakfast, but it was explained by a foreign staff member whose explanation was unclear, and I couldn’t understand what they were saying. Even though it seems to be a highlight, the rice wasn’t anything special and the meal was just average—very disappointing. In particular, customer service was not only overly reliant on devices, but the staff’s attitude toward guests was unacceptable. I’d like to stay one more time, but if it’s still the same, I won’t be staying again in the future. It was truly disappointing.

    Both breakfast and dinner were very delicious. The rice was especially outstanding. The open-air bath in the Room was also wonderful. I was able to bathe while watching the sunrise. The sweets at the refreshment area were also very tasty. It was very convenient, as it is close to Echigo-Yuzawa Station. They looked after our luggage, and the staff were extremely kind and helpful. I would like to stay here again.

    The food is amazing!

    I was expecting a Ryokan, but I was pleasantly surprised that the dining was at an auberge level. Using local ingredients, everything was perfectly seasoned and truly delicious. The style of enjoying a drink before the meal while listening to the chef’s talk was also fresh and fun. Since it’s the off-season, I think the value for money is excellent. The chef is young, but please keep creating more and more delicious dishes! The garment worn over the yukata provided in the Room? I noticed an odor, so please check it regularly. To have guests walk around without slippers indoors, I assume you put a lot of effort into cleaning. It felt great to walk around comfortably. If I had to ask for one thing, an open-air bath would make it perfect. I was completely satisfied with the meals. Thank you very much.

    We were finally able to stay here.

    I had wanted to stay here for some time, but Echigo-Yuzawa had always been just a stopover, so I never had the chance. This time, I made Echigo-Yuzawa my destination and stayed for two nights on two different meal Plans. As for the meals I was looking forward to, the differences between the Plans were clear, and everything was delicious. The aperitif time in particular was great fun. It would have been even better if there had been one or two more options for the sake pairing. One request: on both nights, the final dish was noodles. They were tasty and may be appropriate for a course menu, but since I came all the way to Niigata—famous for its rice—I would have preferred plain steamed rice if possible. The Room is somewhat dated in design, but it was comfortable overall. However, there was one major issue with the Room door key: whether using the PIN code or the key card, it wouldn’t lock or unlock on the first try, which was very frustrating. In fact, one morning it wouldn’t open at all no matter what I did, so I called staff; after confirming a malfunction, they provided a standard key instead. At minimum, I would like you to check that door keys are working each time—and if there is any trick to locking/unlocking them, please let guests know at check-in. Other than the door key issue, I had no particular complaints and enjoyed a satisfying stay. I will make another Reservation again.

    I had a comfortable Multiple Night Stay for three nights without any inconvenience.

    I gave it four stars because the route from the Room to the open-air bath was not very smooth, and the amenities felt fairly standard compared with other Accommodations. However, since we were on a Multiple Night Stay, we brought our favorite soap, shampoo, and treatment, so it wasn’t a problem. The bath was comfortable without making us feel overheated or tired, making it perfect for a relaxing stay. We chose a breakfast-only Plan, so we ate lunch and dinner in the station’s dining area. At an Italian restaurant in the Isen group, we ordered takeout—“Butterbur Sprout Genovese Pasta” and “Beef Carpaccio”—and both were excellent. It’s wonderful to be able to take the Shinkansen from Tokyo and enjoy an Onsen in just over an hour; this location is truly valuable. We tried both Japanese- and Western-style breakfasts. In addition to steamed white rice, I especially remember the pretzel-style bread and sweets handmade by the pastry chef. Lastly, thank you to all the staff for your thoughtful hospitality. We had a wonderful holiday.

    The rice is...

    We stayed for a two-night Multiple Night Stay as a family. A course meal was prepared for us, but it felt like simple country cooking and was overly large in portion size. Despite having a menu, the dish names were not properly written—only cryptic words. It seemed they wanted guests to wait while using their imagination, but if you don’t know what the next dish is, you can’t choose an appropriate drink to go with it. On top of that, when the dishes finally arrived, the explanations were given in broken Japanese. This is not meant to criticize foreign staff, but I felt that this kind of menu labeling is unnecessary both for guests and for servers who are not comfortable with Japanese. The children’s meals also didn’t suit their taste, and they left most of them. Honestly, we regretted staying multiple nights.

    So close in every way.

    - At check-in Staff were smoking at the entrance. No one was at the front desk. - Hallway Some areas were cold. - Bath The shower placement was awkward. - TV The model was far too old. - Morning Housekeeping left all doors open. - Restaurant The food was delicious, but the service was extremely poor. Even though we had children and other tables were available, we were not allowed to change seats. No matter how many times we asked, they kept placing easily spillable dishes in front of our children. It was disappointing overall, especially because the in-room Onsen was great.

    I was happy to finally be able to go.

    Every February, Rooms with an open-air bath are completely booked, so this year I waited and made a Reservation starting around summer (laugh). I love the sister Accommodation ryugon, and since it’s part of the same group I was really looking forward to staying here—and it more than lived up to my expectations. It was wonderful. The in-room open-air bath was spacious and very relaxing—plenty of room even for the two of us. It happened to be snowing, and enjoying warm sake while watching the snow, using the provided bucket and hot spring water, was the best. For dinner, since I can’t eat as much these days, we chose a smaller course, but everything was delicious. The Room key was also convenient because you can use both a card and a code. Another Accommodation I’d love to return to has been added to my list. Thank you very much.

    Disappointed with the meal.

    I was disappointed with the vegetables that were not properly cooked and the inconsistent course meal, and there were only staff who couldn't speak Japanese well, so I couldn't understand the meal content. Since the other guests were from China and Hong Kong, they were conversing only in Chinese with those guests, and it took a long time for them to take our drink orders. The breakfast was also poor. I never want to use the restaurant again.

    Regardless of the season, I have been staying at an onsen ryokan with an open-air bath every month, but this is the first time I've encountered a property without a changing room. Upon entering, I was greeted and instructed to put my shoes in the shoe box, check-in was automated via a tablet, I was handed a card key and told to take my sleepwear from there, given a guidebook, and directed to my room... The instructions on how to use the key were written there. The meal explanation was incomprehensible, the grilled fish was frozen, the steak was too heavy, and the miso soup lacked dashi... The shower only had lukewarm water. The only good thing was that I could increase the temperature of the onsen. There were more disappointing aspects, but this was the second worst stays I've ever had. I wouldn't stay even if I were paid.

    The pairing of pre-dinner drinks was enjoyable, even though I don't drink alcohol. Each dish was carefully prepared, and the rice cooked in an earthenware pot was delicious and wonderful. I ended up emptying the pot. It seems there are activities that can be joined on a day trip, and I would like to participate if I have the chance.

    Everything was wonderful. As a travel enthusiast who has stayed at numerous Ryokans, this place was exceptional. The cuisine, the cleanliness of the Facility, and the attentiveness of the staff were all excellent.

    After all, Isen was the best.

    After five years, I visited Echigo Yuzawa again, and without hesitation, chose this Stays. I've visited several times, and each time it brings me relaxation. The check-in has changed to a touch panel system, making it easier to open and close the Room. The large public bath offers a panoramic view of the station, with a simple layout that is user-friendly. Being right in front of the station, it's conveniently accessible whether by car or public transportation, making it an ideal location for sightseeing. This time, I enjoyed shopping at a nearby liquor store and visiting the paid tasting area inside the station. The meals feature local gastronomy using ingredients from Niigata. Of course, the meat and fish are excellent, but the local vegetables are delicious. You probably won't find this in nearby restaurants. It was the season for new rice, and the rice was exceptionally delicious.

    The satisfaction with the hot springs and meals is high. The guest room is average. I thought it would be convenient to have plates, knives, and other cutlery.
