Thank you very much ...
Thank you very much for taking care of us during our stay. We truly appreciate your accommodating our food allergies. The meals were absolutely delicious. The Ryokan baths, the private bath, and the public hot springs were all wonderful. It was a shame we couldn’t visit all of the public baths, but we’d love to come back and do a full hot spring tour next time! As for amenities, we didn’t have any particular issues, but I happened to forget my makeup remover and thought it would have been helpful if the Ryokan had one available. We’re grateful for the lovely time we had. Thank you very much.

Kinosaki’s Hidden Retreat
The building and guest rooms are certainly older than other Ryokan I have visited, but this Accommodation has a distinct sense of tradition and refinement. Dinner was extremely satisfying, with a generous variety of dishes, and everything was delicious. This Accommodation was a relaxing place where we could forget the bustle of everyday life. It is fascinating that Naoya Shiga also stayed here regularly, but personally I was thrilled to see works by the artist Kiyoshi Yamashita on display. My wife and I agreed that we would like to visit again.

They lack a professional attitude toward guest service.
1. I requested a bento box and rice balls for an early-morning departure, but there was no sincerity in the response at all. 2. The meals did not meet expectations; I question the head chef’s judgment—despite it not being crab season, they served watery frozen crab.

Blissful Moments
With its charming willow-lined street and distinctive public bath-hopping, Kinosaki Onsen as a whole was wonderful, and we were extremely satisfied with our stay at Mikiya. The service was attentive and the food was delicious, and we also enjoyed blissful moments gazing at the garden from the Room’s veranda and from the rocking chairs in the lobby.

Diamond Wedding Anniversary
We stayed at Mikiya to celebrate my parents’ 60th wedding anniversary. We didn’t want to make a big fuss, so we didn’t mention anything in advance. Once dinner began, you realized it was their Diamond Wedding anniversary, and you surprised us with sekihan (red bean rice) served in a steamer basket—it truly amazed us. Our whole family was deeply moved. The dishes were beautifully presented without being overly elaborate, and they were far from ordinary—everything was absolutely delicious. Even though my parents don’t travel often, staying at such an exceptional Accommodation, hearing many stories connected to Naoya Shiga, and seeing the magnificent garden made it a day they will never forget. Thank you very much for your warm hospitality.

Mikiya
I stayed at Mikiya on this trip. It is a calm, historic Ryokan, yet the interior is beautiful and very clean. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, with just the right portions—I was very satisfied. The Ryokan is also in a very convenient location, making it easy to visit the nearby public baths.

A Ryokan where you can relax at your own pace and enjoy a sense of traditional charm.
As this is a Registered Tangible Cultural Property, the exterior retains the charm of its original era, while the interior has been modernized where necessary, making it a very comfortable Ryokan. The Room was a spacious Japanese-style room on the second floor directly above the entrance and facing the street; sitting on the rattan chairs placed on the veranda, we could watch people making their way around the public baths and fully enjoy the atmosphere. The clacking sound of wooden geta echoed outside, and we truly felt immersed in the mood of an Onsen spa town. For bathing, we used a private bath. It had been renovated into a beautiful bath area, and we were able to soak at our leisure and thoroughly enjoy the wonderful hot water. Dinner was calm, well-composed cuisine made with local ingredients. The long-awaited crab sashimi was sweet and delicious, and the Tajima beef steak was tender; all the way through to zosui after crab hot pot, we ate our fill and were completely satisfied. Fitting for an Accommodation associated with Naoya Shiga, there is also a library, making it perfect for spending quiet time. The proprietress explained to us about the Room where Naoya Shiga stayed, clearly sharing details about the Ryokan’s history and how he came to stay there. This was our third visit to Kinosaki Onsen, and we were delighted by their heartfelt hospitality.

For a long-established hot spring Ryokan, it’s understandable that some minor facilities may have small imperfections. However, because it is well maintained, the overall experience was very good. The dinner was high quality, and the private hot spring bath was even better and more comfortable than I expected. It was a happy trip.

Thank you for your thoughtfulness!
We requested a first-floor Room and a Room with a bed for my elderly mother, who has difficulty walking. Our requests were kindly accommodated, and they even prepared a chair specifically for my mother in addition to the cushions in the Room. We truly appreciated this thoughtful gesture. The food was delicious, and the bed was very comfortable. The beautiful courtyard was completely covered in snow—it was breathtaking! I’m so glad my mother enjoyed her stay. A heartfelt thank you to all the kind staff members!

A fine accommodation visited by Naoya Shiga for hot spring therapy
We had the opportunity to see the room where Naoya Shiga stayed. It is a traditional Japanese-style ryokan, offering a relaxing and tranquil experience. The crab dishes were also incredibly delicious.

Thank you for your hospitality. My wife and I were completely satisfied.
The room, meals, bath, and service are all absolutely perfect. The room with the bed felt a bit dark at first and seemed slightly inconvenient to use, but as I got used to the functionality of both rooms, it became very comfortable. I think the design is well thought out. If I have the chance, I would love to stay here again. Thank you very much!

I visited because I ...
I visited because I love registered tangible cultural properties and old architecture. While Japan is losing its traditional streetscapes with the rise of similar high-rise buildings, Kinosaki seems to convey the importance of valuing and preserving culture as a community. In Europe, there are active efforts to protect old architecture, but Japan is also a country with proud culture and a long history. I sincerely hope that this beautiful building and townscape will be passed down for hundreds of years without change. Since it is a beautiful town with many wooden structures, I believe it would be beneficial to make not only the accommodation but also the entire town smoke-free as part of preservation efforts. While chatting with other travelers from overseas, they mentioned how captivating they found the intricate details of Japanese gardens and architecture unique to this country.

It was great!
I stayed here for a special occasion. The hospitality of the staff was excellent, and the meals were incredibly delicious. Above all, the Onsen hopping was so much fun that it made me feel like a child again, and personally, I found this accommodation's Onsen (especially the private ones) to be the best. In the evening, I also recommend exploring nearby snack bars.

Delicious meals at a charming Ryokan.
The historic building has been carefully renovated, offering a clean and comfortable stay. I enjoyed visiting the public Onsen in the selected yukata and had a wonderful first experience at Kinosaki Onsen. Thank you for the delicious meals as well.

It was a wonderful accommodation.
I visited Kinosaki Onsen for the first time. This traditional Onsen accommodation has a charming atmosphere, and it's no wonder that a famous literary figure once stayed here. I thoroughly enjoyed an exquisite full-course Japanese dinner in the evening. The next morning, I quietly read the short story "At Kinosaki" on a sofa in the lobby before being guided by the staff to see the room where Naoya Shiga stayed. The vivid connection between my imagination from the novel and the displayed photos with explanations made it an unforgettable and unique experience only available here.

Accommodation to Soothe Both Mind and Body
I have visited Kinosaki Onsen several times, but this might be the first time I was able to relax and unwind so completely. Sitting on a rocking chair while gazing at the garden, I lost track of time. The location is excellent, allowing for an evening stroll through Kinosaki's charming streets and visits to the public baths. It was truly a wonderful vacation. Thank you very much!

A long-awaited stay at the accommodation regularly visited by Shiga Naoya.
This accommodation, famously associated with the author of "At Kinosaki" and "A Dark Night's Passing," Naoya Shiga, has long been on my list to visit. Finally, I had the chance to stay here! The exterior exudes a traditional charm and historical ambiance, while the interior offers modern facilities that rival those of contemporary hotels in cleanliness, comfort, and elegance. A perfect blend of old-world charm and modern convenience—everything I hoped for was here. The indoor baths were spotless and reflected the history as a therapeutic inn. The private baths were beautifully designed, clean, and comfortable to use. All provided shampoos were from OSAJI, which delighted my partner immensely with their fragrance—and I loved them too! Both breakfast and dinner were exceptionally delicious with impeccable service timing that showcased top-tier Ryokan hospitality. Additionally, the proprietress personally guided us through the room used by Naoya Shiga along with its history—a truly enriching experience for us. I sincerely hope to return again as a couple or with family in the future!

Traditional Ryokan
This was our first trip to Kinosaki Onsen since visiting as a family about 50 years ago during my childhood, and this time it was a couple's trip. The purpose of this trip was that my wife wanted to see a bag she liked, which turned out to be from Toyooka Kaban when we checked the website. So, we chose this accommodation near Kinosaki Onsen. We selected this ryokan because it is an established inn with beds, and it came up in our search results. The exterior and interior were just as we imagined, and the onsen had been beautifully renovated, making for a very pleasant experience. The onsen especially stood out with two private baths available without needing reservations. However, there were some disappointments regarding the garden and meals. The garden could have been better maintained for an improved impression. As for the meals, they felt average—neither particularly good nor bad—and could benefit from more uniqueness or character.

It's disappointing that there is a difference in the breakfast offerings...
A very charming accommodation with excellent service. However, one disappointing aspect was that when I stayed with my partner, the main fish served at breakfast had more than double the size difference. The first photo shows mine, and the second shows my partner's. Perhaps it was out of consideration that women might eat less, but I did not leave any dinner uneaten. Since we paid the same price (even though it might have been assumed to be a treat, we both paid), I would have preferred not to see such differences in service based on gender.

What is the cuisine of a traditional Ryokan?
We enjoyed the charm of the traditional Ryokan. However, the boiled snow crab was served as is, and the shell was not adequately cut, making it extremely difficult to crack open even for me. My wife gave up eating halfway through because her hands hurt. She mentioned that having kitchen scissors might have helped. We would appreciate some effort to make it easier to eat. While some may prefer crabs served whole and uncut, I couldn't help but question if this truly represents the "cuisine" of a traditional Ryokan. The final dish also contained many shelled crabs in a stew-like preparation, but using chopsticks or a crab fork made it nearly impossible to eat without resorting to messy methods involving hands and chopsticks in the broth. When I had Shanghai crab at a Chinese restaurant on Yamamoto Street in Kobe, they were beautifully prepared for easy consumption—showing how thoughtful presentation can enhance dining at fine establishments. Unfortunately, this time I felt there was little consideration for guests' convenience despite its visual appeal. Another point is that while it's understandable given its historical nature as an old Ryokan, issues like poorly fitted fusuma (sliding doors) and shoji (paper screens) caused rattling noises that disrupted our sleep. This seems like something that could be improved upon. That said, there are many positive aspects such as the excellent service from front desk staff and the proprietress as well as the beautiful ambiance of this nationally registered cultural property. We hope these points will be taken into consideration for future improvements!

It was a comfortable stay that makes you want to visit again.
This was my first trip to Kinosaki, a place I had always wanted to visit. I chose this accommodation because it is associated with Naoya Shiga and the retro building looked charming, and it exceeded all my expectations. The hostess was wonderful, and I enjoyed the flowers arranged throughout the facility along with their vases. The meals were impeccable; each dish was beautifully presented in exquisite tableware and absolutely delicious. The room's design was lovely, featuring thoughtful touches like underfloor heating in the washroom and heated towel racks for added comfort. While we visited the public baths outside, we also thoroughly enjoyed the high-quality indoor large bath and private bath facilities at this accommodation, making it a truly relaxing stay immersed in hot springs. The building has been renovated with a perfect balance of old charm and modern updates—details like tiled hallways and glass windows were particularly delightful. One minor concern was that certain areas such as underfoot in the dining area, as well as toilets in both our room and private baths, felt cold. Other than that, everything else was perfect. I am grateful to have discovered such a wonderful accommodation!

It was a stay in the snow during a cold wave, so the Room was a bit chilly, but the meals were delicious, and it was clear that great care was taken with the service, which filled not only my stomach but also my heart. At checkout, I was lent an umbrella and was told it would be fine to return it to the tourist information center, which allowed me to head leisurely to the station without worry, even with the unpredictable weather. Thanks to all the thoughtful gestures, I had a wonderful stay at the Property.

The hospitality, service, and meals were excellent.
From the welcome to the farewell, all the staff provided excellent service. The meals were luxurious and delicious. The room was a slightly unusual Japanese-style room, originally a dining area? A banquet hall? I wonder. The side facing the onsen town had a veranda, and the sound of clogs clattering added to the atmosphere. With a checkout time of 11:00, after breakfast, I was able to relax by taking a towel to the cave bath I couldn't enter the day before or taking a leisurely walk to the station. On the day of arrival, the public bath was crowded in the evening (Sunday), so I couldn't relax, but the onsen at the property was smaller, allowing for a quiet and relaxing experience.

I had a very good time.
It was my first visit to Kinosaki Onsen. The ryokan building is old, but the interior is well-maintained, thoroughly cleaned, and the plumbing is new, making it very comfortable. The room was also very spacious and comfortable. The meals were satisfying as well. Choosing from a wide variety of yukata was a lot of fun. Some of the ryokan's geta had slightly uneven soles, and I wore them without checking, which made walking a bit difficult. Since there are many geta available, I recommend checking the soles before wearing them. The staff at the ryokan were very accommodating, and I was able to have a wonderful time. Thank you very much.
