    Ideal for sightseeing at Takeda Castle Ruins.

    We arrived in the evening and chose the plan with two meals included. The only convenience store within walking distance is a Lawson about 10–15 minutes away. Since you have to cross a national highway at night, it feels far. We were glad we added meals. The carefully prepared dishes were unique both to look at and to taste, and we really enjoyed them. I definitely recommend adding meals. We went early in the morning to Ritsuunkyo, came back for breakfast, rested in our Room, and then hiked up Takeda Castle; being able to take breaks along the way was great. This is a recommended Accommodation. Since it is an old traditional house Hotel, I would not recommend it to those who cannot enjoy an older building or who expect perfect Facilities.

    I expected too much.

    Perhaps my expectations were too high. The house and glass sliding doors were nice, but the stairs were difficult. I thought I had chosen a single-story property. It was a franchise of a traditional Japanese house brand.

    It’s not bad, but…

    This was my first stay at a traditional renovated house Hotel, so I researched in advance through blogs and YouTube and arrived with high expectations. However, there haven’t been many recent posts, so the information I found was outdated. Perhaps the systems and services have changed over time, but I felt disappointed that some aspects differed from what I had expected. Although it was my responsibility for not checking the latest details more carefully, I often found myself thinking “Huh?”—especially regarding the drink selection in the lounge and in the Room. In particular, there were four bottles of water placed on top of the refrigerator in the Room, but inside the refrigerator there was only one drink as an IKYU Diamond member benefit and nothing else. I was surprised there were no other beverages at all—not even paid options. This was my first time experiencing this with a Reservation made through IKYU. Although you later responded sincerely despite being busy, it still left me feeling disappointed and briefly made me question the Hotel’s standards. Dinner at Ruan was tasty overall, but I was disappointed that the fish dish was sardines (the menu for our stay had not been finalized in advance). The atmosphere of the Room, amenities/supplies, and bathroom were as expected, and service was average with nothing particularly negative. Precisely because of that—and given that there is no internal phone line within the property and staff are dispersed due to the layout—I hope you will reconsider having no drinks stocked in the Room refrigerator. I usually only write a Review when something is exceptionally good and tend not to mention disappointing points, but I decided to share this in hopes that my experience will be helpful as advance information for future guests considering a Reservation.

    The staff provide excellent service at this Accommodation.

    As the title says, this Accommodation has excellent staff service. Everyone was very kind, and they promptly handled any requests with a smile. Here are the good points and the things I noticed... [Good points] - Both meals were simply delicious. - I was able to relax a lot in the lounge above the restaurant. - Since each Room is a separate standalone unit, you can relax without worrying about neighbors. - There are plenty of Rooms, so there’s no trouble finding space for luggage, etc. [Things I noticed] - As I knew in advance, it’s a bit inconvenient for elderly guests or on rainy days because there is some distance to the front desk building. - This may have been only my Room, but the bedroom was on the second floor while the toilet was on the first floor, and the stairs were a bit steep—so it may be inconvenient for elderly guests. - This may have been only my Room, but the bathroom window was not frosted glass and could be seen clearly from the toilet area; depending on your group composition, this could be inconvenient.

    A distinctive and charming accommodation with a traditional atmosphere

    The spacious, clean, and character-filled two-story historic building made for a charming and atmospheric Accommodation. We were glad we could relax and take it easy all day. It was wonderful that the hinoki bath could automatically fill with hot water. The heaters in the washroom and toilet were a huge help—we were able to dry our son’s wet shoes in a short time. The desserts at both dinner and breakfast were especially delicious. After breakfast, it was fun to take a walk along nearby Takeda Teramachi Street. Away from the city’s bustle, it felt as if time had stopped, and we felt very calm. Thanks to a female staff member at the nearby tourist information center, we learned about the “Wadayama Takeda Castle Festival” and enjoyed spending the whole day there. We would love to visit again someday.

    This may be feedback specific to this Room only.

    I stayed in Detached Room 601 under the BMG Premier grade, but it was not an Accommodation where you can relax comfortably. I understood from the start that it is a renovated traditional house, but the living room faces the road with only a single thin pane of glass, so you can clearly hear people talking as they walk by. It is also fully visible from outside, so you end up keeping the shade down at all times. Above all, the staircase to the second floor where the bedroom and other rooms are located is narrow and steep, which feels dangerous. All water-related areas are on the first floor, so you need to be careful every time you go to the toilet. It seemed aimed at inbound travelers rather than domestic guests looking to unwind. The food was very delicious and the staff service was good, which made this disappointing.

    We had a relaxing stay.

    This is a wonderful Accommodation that perfectly matches the town of Taketa. There was no interference from the staff at all, and we also enjoyed delicious food. Having an earthen-floored area in the Room was the best.

    The Luxury of Doing Nothing

    I stayed during the New Year holidays. Unfortunately, I couldn't visit Ritsuunkyo as planned due to the snow from the previous day, but I enjoyed seeing the illuminated Takeda Castle from the lounge. The Room was equipped with heating and a humidifier, making it very comfortable. However, I thought it would have been nice to have cushions or a rug mat in the living room. It was slightly inconvenient to go down to the dirt floor and put on footwear every time I moved between the living room, bedroom, toilet, and bath. Additionally, moving from my Room to the restaurant, lounge, or large public bath was challenging because of the snow. The cuisine was French-style; at first glance at the menu, I wondered if it would be enough but ended up feeling full. The dishes featured local ingredients like Tajima beef and Iwatsu green onions and were delicious. I’d love to visit again during another season—perhaps autumn when the foliage is beautiful! Thank you for your hospitality!

    With various inconveniences, I thought I understood them, but is this really how it is? If the price is around 35,000 yen for two people with two meals included, it seems reasonable. However, at around 150,000 yen, wouldn't it be hard to find users?

    Anniversary Trip

    The accommodation retained a traditional homey feel, allowing for a relaxing stay. The absence of a TV added to the charm, making it easy to unwind. Meals were delicious, featuring local ingredients that were wonderfully prepared. Breakfast had a gentle and comforting touch! The service was good, though the staff seemed slightly nervous when explaining the dishes—perhaps a more casual approach would have been nice. Additionally, while the lounge offered various liqueurs, it would have been helpful to know recommended ways to enjoy them. Overall, I had a slow-paced and relaxing time here. Thank you very much! I look forward to staying at another VMG series accommodation in the future!

    With Senior Dogs

    We stayed as a couple with our senior dog. The amenities for dogs were well-prepared, which was great. Since we opted for in-room dining, the food was slightly cold, but it was still very delicious even when cooled. Thanks to this, we were able to enjoy a relaxing meal together with our dog. The staff members were all young but provided very polite and attentive service, which was wonderful. We would love to visit again!

    An Accommodation to Forget Time

    This was my fourth stay, and as always, this accommodation offers a relaxing and peaceful experience that makes me lose track of time. I truly appreciate being able to spend elegant moments in the lounge from arrival to departure. Especially after breakfast, simply watching the koi and medaka swimming in the river on the mountain side brings such tranquility to my heart.     Accommodation for visiting Takeda Castle Ruins

    Stayed one night in the prestigious Keyaki Room within the main building. The beautifully renovated historic structure provided a wonderfully comfortable and serene Japanese-style room for relaxation. Both dinner and breakfast featured creative menus with excellent quality, quantity, and balance. The youthful energy of the staff was evident throughout, and their perfectly balanced hospitality left a great impression. In the early morning, I climbed to Takeda Castle Ruins to watch the sunrise, followed by a refreshing bath and breakfast—an unforgettable experience. I would love to visit again during cherry blossom season!

    1 Night, 2 Days: A Trip with Your Dog

    From the Room, you can see the Takeda Castle Ruins, and at night, it is beautifully lit up. The meals are a full course using plenty of local ingredients. The Room was thoroughly cleaned, allowing for a comfortable stay. There were no clocks or TVs in the Room, so for the first time in decades, we played board games as a family.

    The age of the Room does not mean it is shabby.

    This accommodation is a renovated 150-year-old building, but while the charm of its age remains, further renovations might be needed to address cleanliness for a more comfortable stay. The room lacks natural light, and the dim lighting creates an overly subdued atmosphere that can feel depressing. Accessing the toilet, sink, and bath requires stepping down into the dirt floor area and wearing geta or shoes each time, which is quite inconvenient. It might be worth having someone who has stayed here after renovation review these aspects for improvement. Additionally, the accommodation cost does not seem to match the level of comfort provided. A closet would have been appreciated as well as a desk for added convenience. If relaxing in a dark room with minimal amenities is considered ideal here, it may not suit those seeking a more comfortable stay. Also, moving to the restaurant on rainy or windy days can be quite challenging.

    There was no water.

    I had trouble with the water not running in the room. It started working once, but then stopped again soon after. The only place to get water was outside, and I disliked having to take my shoes from the shoe rack and go out into the cold each time. I filled an empty bottle with water and waited a bit, but as expected, no water came out. Eventually, I was moved to another room since there was a replacement available. The new room had a high ceiling and felt cold. The heating in the toilet and bathroom turned off by morning. I understand this is due to the building's characteristics. I knew it was a renovated building, but it was disappointing that there was no running water or any place inside to use water. Because of this issue taking up time, I couldn't enjoy a long bath either, which was unfortunate. However, the staff who assisted me were kind and helpful. The meals were also delicious. This experience made me realize once again how important water is and how convenient things usually are. It seems updating facilities is quite challenging; thank you for your attention to this matter.

    It was good.

    It was a challenging visit due to the heavy snow, but we enjoyed it with the room upgrade. We were thrilled to see Takeda Castle Ruins from the hotel. The meals, both dinner and breakfast, were very delicious and satisfying. The free drinks including alcohol were great, but it was a bit disappointing that there wasn't a shop where we could purchase sake and other items.

    The cultural heritag...

    The cultural heritage building has been wonderfully renovated, allowing us to enjoy a unique atmosphere that can only be experienced here. Despite the snowy day, the Room was surprisingly warm, and I was impressed by the hospitality extended throughout every corner of the Facility.

    Relaxed Time

    This was my third visit, and for the first time, I stayed in the main building. I was able to go directly to the room from the front desk and had smooth access to the restaurant, allowing me to spend a relaxing time. The free drinks in the lounge while watching the illuminated Takeda Castle were fantastic. Every dinner was a delightful surprise, and my sister and her husband, who accompanied me, were very satisfied. As expected in midwinter, it was quite cold at dawn, but I think that's part of the charm of traveling. I am grateful for the attentive care of the staff at the front desk and the restaurant. I also appreciate the chef for taking a photo with us after dinner. Next time, I would like to climb Takeda Castle. Thank you very much.

    A property you'll want to repeat visiting many times.

    Stayed for two nights in mid-November. The Stays by VMG offer a unique lodging experience in tastefully renovated historical buildings, along with delicious meals featuring local ingredients. I've stayed at several properties, but EN in Takeda is my favorite. Since my first visit in September last year, this was already my third visit. To see the sea of clouds at Takeda Castle Ruins or Ritsuunkyo, you need to head out before dawn. The property's proximity to the station and the castle ruins makes it an ideal location for cloud viewing. Additionally, the lounge offers a free drink service with a wide selection of local sake, perfect for relaxing after a hike. Traveling alone, I chose a compact room, which had a great view from the window. Despite its size, the room was comfortable, and I enjoyed selecting from the complimentary drinks in the fridge. I spent a luxurious time savoring sake while leisurely watching the clouds drift over the castle ruins in the quiet, TV-free room. The food was as delicious as ever. Of course, the Tajima beef was excellent, but I also enjoyed the grilled taro and pumpkin soup, savoring the delicious bounty of Tajima in visually stunning French cuisine. Since I stayed for two nights, on the second day, I took a day trip to Kinosaki Onsen. It's less than an hour by express train from Takeda to Kinosaki Onsen, allowing me to leisurely enjoy the public baths and seasonal crab. The next morning, I challenged the sea of clouds again, making for a fulfilling trip. It was a very satisfying trip, so I immediately made a reservation for next fall. I look forward to visiting again next autumn.

    I made a reservation at a property with two meals included on a trip I decided on suddenly to see the sea of clouds at Takeda Castle Ruins, without much expectation. The old building was beautifully renovated, the staff were kind, and the meals were delicious and satisfying. There are several affiliated Stays across the whole country. I would like to use it again.

    I invited someone who has been helpful to me and used the all-inclusive plan. For me, the quantity and quality of the dinner, as well as the variety and quality of the drinks included for free, were basically satisfactory. I suspected that the champagne in the lounge, which is available to all guests, might just be sparkling wine, but it was indeed champagne. Although there weren't many high-end options for sake in the lounge, the variety (brands) was sufficient. The beverages in the room's refrigerator seem to be free even without the all-inclusive plan, but for all-inclusive guests, they will replenish them until 9 PM. Including the concept, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.

    Recommended for those who love alcohol

    Repeat visit Both hospitality and facilities have been upgraded since my last stay. A new lounge has been established, offering a wide variety. On the day I stayed, there were no snacks available, so I bought some sweets at the candy store next to the facility. The alcohol selection is generous, so I wouldn't mind if the snacks were charged, but it would be nice if they were provided. When I got a second serving of miso soup at breakfast, the change in ingredients showed attention to detail. I enjoyed both dinner and breakfast. The view of the train from the dining area adds a touch of charm.
