Fine Dining and Onsen in Perfect Harmony

This is my second stay at Hanakoyado. I became a repeat guest because this is where you find the answer to whether high-quality Onsen and gourmet dining can truly be enjoyed at a reasonable price. The traditional wooden building and tiled bath are full of classic Onsen atmosphere. Even more luxuriously, the Kinsen flows continuously, and when you sink into the tub, the overflowing water swirls as it runs off. I also enjoyed a steam bath using the high-temperature source spring. The rice cooked in the okudosan is delicious, and the fish and meat carefully grilled over charcoal with radiant heat are more than satisfying. To top it off, curry rice is served at the end as well. There is an Onsen experience and cuisine here that feel wonderfully untouched by modern times.

A Weekend Getaway for a Family of Three

Thank you very much for allowing us to enjoy such a wonderful holiday this time. This small Accommodation with only 11 rooms had a great atmosphere and a lovely retro charm. The meals were also excellent; dining at the kappo counter, with the traditional stove and attentive service, was truly enjoyable. The bath was also a private kinsen hot spring, so we could soak without any worries, but it was a bit too hot for me... All the other guests were considerate as well, and there was no loud talking or heavy footsteps, so it was very comfortable. I hope to visit again someday. Thank you very much.

Although it’s an old building, it feels very clean. There are no slippers inside, and the hallways are tatami, which feels great. All of the dishes were delicious, and dining at the counter was fun with a live atmosphere. The tableware and decor are consistently styled throughout, making this a calm and wonderful Accommodation.

    Enjoy Arima Onsen

So places like this really do exist in Arima. I stay at Arima Onsen a few times a year, and I’d heard that the output of the red spring has been decreasing year by year, which is worrying. Hanakoyado’s Kinsen is a hot Onsen with a deep ochre color. Compared with the red spring waters I’ve experienced before, it’s slightly lighter in color and the iron stains on towels aren’t as red, but it warms you to the core. Best of all, there’s an abundant flow: in addition to a continuously flowing bath, there’s also a steam bath that makes use of the high source temperature. Outside the Accommodation, Kinsen water flows through the gutter while giving off steam—it feels wonderfully luxurious. Even more impressive, the detached Room we stayed in had its own continuously flowing Kinsen bath. The moment you sink in, it just overflows nonstop—pure extravagance. I’ve stayed at many Onsen Accommodations before, but this was my first time soaking for such long hours; I even finished an entire book I bought at a nearby convenience store. The meals were excellent too—charcoal-grilled chicken and beef were delicious, and even the white rice was outstanding. Three extra bowls at breakfast. We truly got to experience the enduring strength of one of Arima Onsen’s long-established inns.

Savor the lively, freshly prepared cuisine at our intimate Accommodation.

When I visited Arima before, I found this Accommodation and vaguely thought I’d like to stay here someday—finally made it happen. I really enjoyed all the charm that only a small Accommodation can offer. For dinner, we were seated at the counter, and got to savor the dishes with a great live, up-close feel!! It was also fun when the staff casually joined in our conversation. The old building is wonderful too—I hope everything stays just as it is, from the pillars and glass floor to the ceiling and antique furniture, so I’ll be back again. Thank you very much!!

We were very satisfied with both the bath and the meals!!!

The private baths were wonderfully relaxing. Since there are only a few Rooms, the two baths were never crowded and were available whenever we wanted. The meals were also very thoughtfully prepared, and we were extremely satisfied. It’s close by, so we will stay again.

    First Time in Arima Onsen

This was our first trip to Kobe Arima Onsen as a couple. First, the parking lot is far from the Accommodation. While the car navigation system can get you close, the parking entrance is hard to find. It took us more than 30 minutes to locate it. Please add clearer signage. Our Room had a private bath (Premium Twin with Onsen), and we were also able to use the large public bath at Tosen Goshobo (semi-mixed), so we could fully enjoy the Kinsen. We were able to have dinner at the counter, and it was truly enjoyable to watch the cooking while we ate. Breakfast was also tasty, but both the variety and portion size were limited and could use some improvement. Because the Room is a renovated old house, everyday noises carry quite a bit. The entrance is also shared with the second floor, so I think guests should be asked at check-in to be mindful of noise. The bathroom amenities were also somewhat limited. Although it wasn’t snowing, during a late-January cold wave the toilet and wash area were extremely cold, so some measures are needed—such as providing a small electric heater. Overall we were satisfied with our stay, but paying over 80,000 yen for two people for one night with breakfast and dinner in an Onsen-equipped twin felt slightly expensive when considering everything in total.

    The staff who guided...

The staff who guided me to the Room was coughing a lot without wearing a mask (shouldn't they put on a mask if they are in such a condition, even during service?). When I asked where to go for meals due to lack of explanation, they explained with an expression as if it had already been explained, leaving the first impression quite poor. However, the meals were delicious, the hot water was great, and the bed was firm enough for a good night's sleep. Overall, I am very satisfied.

The warmth and nostalgia of the Showa era

You can enjoy the bath at Goshobo, and the family bath at Hanako Accommodation has a charming atmosphere. The spirit of Mr. Watanuki is reflected throughout, with soft and nostalgic light coming through every window, creating a very relaxing environment. I hope this unique Showa-era charm remains unchanged. The meals were thoughtfully prepared for summer, and both dinner and breakfast were fresh and delicious. The watermelon soup was innovative, and the pairing of dressing with warm vegetables in the morning was delightful. However, water dripping from the ceiling into the transparent water container in the family bath area occasionally splashed onto my face while bathing, which was inconvenient. Additionally, there seemed to be some discomfort with the lighting in this container. That said, I appreciated thoughtful touches like illuminated lamps. I would love to visit again. The warm conversation from the staff during our final farewell made me want to return even more. Thank you very much!

    The hospitality was excellent!

As a devoted admirer of folk crafts, this was truly the perfect and wonderful accommodation. The highlight was the cuisine. Locally sourced ingredients were carefully and delicately prepared, leaving a lasting impression. Next time, I would love to visit Goshobo.

    Glowing Skin

We had a relaxing stay at this retro-style accommodation. The meals were delicious and thoroughly enjoyable. However, with only two private baths available, it was challenging to use them when the timing wasn't right. One concern was that the hairdryer in the room was an old model, which took a long time to dry our hair. Thank you very much.

    Highly satisfied!

This is probably my fifth visit? I am always satisfied, but the "Small Portions of Exquisite Dishes" Plan is particularly excellent. Despite being small portions, there are many dishes, and every time a dish is served, I can't help but exclaim "Wow!" at the beautiful presentation. The rice cooked in the traditional stove was so delicious that I ended up eating so much I couldn't ask for seconds. The highlight was definitely the sashimi with its skin seared right in front of us over charcoal—it was amazing. The meat was also fantastic. The private family bath (with golden hot spring water) is great as well; since it's a small accommodation, there's not much waiting time to use it. The mini sauna is also nice. One small request: since we bathe multiple times during our stay, my facial cleanser runs out quickly. It would be great if you could provide some like at Gosho Bō—using body soap for my face feels too harsh. Lastly, thank you so much for accommodating our sudden request to celebrate my husband's Kiju (77th birthday). Even though we forgot to mention it earlier as it was meant to be a commemorative trip, you made such thoughtful arrangements with dessert and warm smiles—it truly made our day!

    It was excellent.

It was a bit inconvenient that there were no cleansing face wash, toner, or lotion. We ordered special menus and had a lot of drinks, so the cost was higher than expected. However, each dish was delicious, the staff were courteous, and we were satisfied with the Room. Thank you very much.

    First time at Arima Onsen

We visited Arima Onsen to celebrate my husband's birthday, having already been to Kusatsu Onsen and Gero Onsen. As many reviews mentioned, we were completely satisfied with the performance and taste of the food. We also enjoyed two private Onsen baths. However, when the hotel is fully booked, everyone seems to have the same idea about when to use the baths, so it was difficult to find an available time, and we had to check the owl's eyes outside the room several times. Still, when we did get in, we were able to enjoy a blissful Onsen experience. We were also delighted with the Onsen hot water bottle given to us after the meal. It is recommended for those who want to spend a quiet and leisurely adult time.

    The meals are excellent.

The meals are very delicious. There are no typical solid fuel pots often found in onsen ryokan, but rather elaborate dishes with a sense of the season. Since it's not room service but a dining hall, you can enjoy freshly made warm dishes. The bath has the characteristic reddish-brown water typical of Arima. It seems to have been recently renovated, and there is also a steam bath or sauna corner. If I stay next time, I think I'll choose a room on the second floor. This time I stayed in a room on the first floor, but the noise from the upper floors was surprisingly loud... It's understandable since it's a wooden structure, and there are also advantages to its small scale, so overall, it was a very satisfying stay!

    Delicious meals every time

Although it's within a day-trip distance, I stayed to enjoy the seasonal dinner and breakfast at Shunju. After a year, I found that the door leading directly from Shunju to the outside road was gone, and a bar counter-like area had been set up. The bath now has a steam room, which was very comfortable as it made me sweat a lot. The only thing that made me wonder was that the "large/small" flush buttons on the toilet wall didn't respond at all. Other than that, I was very satisfied. I will visit again.

It is an inn with a calm atmosphere.

Although it is an old building, it is a very calm inn where I was able to spend my time comfortably. The service from the staff was attentive, and I would like to stay again. Both of the private baths have been renovated for convenience, and the steam bath set at 50 degrees is pleasant. I also enjoyed the meals in the morning and evening. Especially the breakfast, although not abundant in variety, the freshly cooked rice from the traditional stove, delicious dried flounder, and miso soup were satisfying. This is not only about this inn, but I feel that the Arima hot spring (Kinsen) has become weaker compared to the past. Is it just my imagination?
