    The baths were excellent (especially the indoor bath). Please be careful of horseflies when using the open-air bath.

    Thanks to your warm hospitality, we had a wonderful time!

    Thanks to the information you shared with us by email in advance, we were able to arrive smoothly at Yukaen by shuttle bus on the day. Check-in was also explained carefully, and we stayed comfortably throughout. We considered sightseeing on the second day, but since we had fully enjoyed Chuson-ji Temple on the first day, we decided to focus on relaxing and enjoying the Onsen. We booked a head and hand course at Nagomi-yu for day use, had lunch, and spent a very restful time. The fried shrimp and minced meat cutlet we ordered for daytime drinks were impressively generous portions, and everything was delicious. The lounge pancakes were also great—we finished them in no time. Dinner on the second night featured a different menu from the first, so we could enjoy a new atmosphere as well. The hospitality truly felt guest-focused and very comfortable; my friend and I said we'd love to come back as we left the Accommodation. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

    A Trip to Celebrate My Mother’s 88th Birthday

    We stayed with a group of seven in four Rooms for my mother’s 88th birthday celebration trip. From the time of the Reservation, the staff kindly helped us choose our Rooms, and all four were close together, making it easy to visit each other. The bath water left our skin feeling smooth, and we really enjoyed it. They also accommodated foods we couldn’t eat by changing them to other dishes, and everything was delicious. The breakfast buffet offered a wide variety and was very satisfying. We would love to stay again if we have the opportunity.

    Used to celebrate an 88th birthday.

    We stayed here to celebrate my father’s 88th birthday. Five of us, including my elderly parents, stayed overnight. They prepared a spacious Room for us, and the hospitality was truly pleasant. Thank you very much. My parents were also very happy.

    A wonderful Ryokan that everyone will want to stay at again.

    From the moment I stepped inside, I was overwhelmed by the beauty of the wooden architecture, highlighted by a stunning coffered ceiling and exquisite craftsmanship. It felt like the luxury of staying in an art museum. Above all, the Onsen quality is outstanding. The free-flowing natural spring water is strongly alkaline, making it silky-smooth. Your skin feels pleasantly slick, and the moisture lasts even after bathing—truly like soaking in lotion. I enjoyed all three bath areas again and again. The cuisine was also excellent, making great use of local ingredients. Despite being an Accommodation that exudes elegance in every detail—from the Room furnishings to the meals and the perfectly attentive yet unobtrusive service—the price is incredibly reasonable. It’s a bit far from the Kanto area, but even so, this is an Onsen Accommodation you should absolutely visit—one that will never disappoint your expectations.

    Upon arriving at the Ryokan, a young male staff member explained the facilities to us. Perhaps he was new? He seemed nervous… he stumbled over his words, which made things a bit awkward for us. I wondered if they don’t do role-playing training. Since it’s the same content as what’s written on the 안내 sheet, I think he could have explained it well even while looking at it. Also, at checkout, my husband had already completed the procedure, so I only needed to return the key. However, it didn’t feel like there was an easy way to return just the key; there was only one staff member at the front desk and they were handling another guest’s checkout. I wish there had been a key return box for guests who have already checked out… The Onsen water was silky and incredibly relaxing, and the Room design was elaborate and wonderful. The meals were also delicious. There were so many kinds of pickles at breakfast that I tried several different ones—I wished they were sold in the shop. This was my first time sightseeing in Tohoku, and I’m glad we found Yukaen. The taxi driver on our way back was also a wonderful person.

    For your trip to Iwate.

    We stayed here for our first family trip in a while. We were surprised by how impressive the building was—much more than we expected. The male staff member who assisted us at check-in was also very courteous and helpful, sharing details about the three baths and recommending the best times for meals, which we really appreciated. The Room was spacious, well built, and very clean, and our children were happy saying, “This place is nice!” Dinner was generous in portion size, and the Iwate beef shabu-shabu in particular was delicious with rich flavor. Breakfast also offered a wide variety of options; everything was excellent, including the local Iwate specialty hittsumi soup, and our whole family was very satisfied. Both the large and small baths were clean, and above all the water quality was wonderful—our skin felt so smooth afterward. It worked out perfectly that we could use them almost privately both morning and night. Since we live far away it will be difficult to visit again soon, but it was such a great Accommodation that next time we would love to bring our elderly parents as well.

    It was a highly satisfying accommodation.

    The room crafted by master carpenters was meticulously designed with a luxurious feel. It featured a traditional Japanese-style room with an adjoining space and a wide veranda, along with high ceilings that created a spacious and relaxing atmosphere. The Onsen was divided into three areas, offering the enjoyment of choosing which one to enter. We ended up trying two of them, both of which were uncrowded and allowed for a leisurely soak. The water quality was soft and very pleasant. Meals, both dinner and breakfast, were highly satisfying in terms of quantity and quality. The shop didn’t have an extensive selection but offered items at reasonable prices comparable to or cheaper than other souvenir shops, which felt fair. I would love to stay here again!

    Summer Tohoku Tour

    The onsen's water quality had high reviews, so I decided to visit. As mentioned in the reviews, the water was highly alkaline, clear, and left my skin feeling smooth and moisturized. The room I stayed in had a great atmosphere and allowed me to relax comfortably. The breakfast buffet was enjoyable with a variety of ingredients to choose from, including local dishes, making it one of the best breakfasts I've had recently. All the staff were polite and attentive—thank you for their excellent service. The services as an onsen accommodation were outstanding. I would love to visit again!

    A luxurious Onsen Ryokan surrounded by nature

    The room featured a classic Western-style bed, providing a relaxing stay. Although we didn't use the private bath, there were two other baths with open-air Onsen, allowing us to enjoy plenty of hot springs and feel completely satisfied. The meals were also incredibly delicious and very satisfying. This accommodation is perfect for an Onsen getaway to treat yourself and escape the hustle and bustle of the city!

    For anniversary celebrations

    We stayed for two nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Thank you so much for your exceptional hospitality. The meals were different on both days, and each was delicious and delightful. Having a full-body soap for children and a microwave near the dining area to warm baby food was very helpful. The baby crib and diaper bin in the bath changing room were also incredibly convenient. All the staff were warm and welcoming, the building was impressive, and the open-air bath had a beautiful view that made it very relaxing. We would love to visit again! Thank you!

    Accommodation you'll wish to stay longer.

    On a scorching hot day, I stayed with my elderly parents. The silky Onsen, the fusion-style kaiseki cuisine, and the beautifully crafted Facility by master carpenters were all truly wonderful! The spacious interior was cool everywhere, and when we opened the large window of our Room overlooking the lush green mountains, we could hear the gentle murmur of a stream. It was incredibly soothing. I will work hard again and visit as a reward for my family and myself.

    Excellent cuisine.

    The Room, bath, and service were all excellent, but the food was outstanding. Every dish was elaborate, stylish, and well-seasoned. The highlight was the seasoned rice with Japanese pepper; it was so delicious that I couldn't resist having seconds.

    Accommodation Showcasing the Craftsmanship of Temple Carpenters

    We stayed as a couple during our Tohoku trip over Golden Week. The building had an impressive and majestic presence, and the room was very clean. Within the spacious grounds, there is a day-use onsen, and combined with the two bathing areas in the accommodation buildings, you can enjoy three different baths. We were advised that the smaller onsen in the accommodation building was more relaxing, so we used it after dinner. However, many female staff members entered midway through our bath time, making it less relaxing... The changing area also became crowded, which was quite disappointing. If possible, we would prefer if they used the larger bath instead. The meals were creative Japanese cuisine with intricate dishes from appetizers to desserts. The main dish of Maesawa beef shabu-shabu had generous portions of meat that left my husband very satisfied. All staff members working within the facility were kind and helpful; aside from the issue with the bathhouse situation, we had a comfortable stay overall. Although it was just a one-night stay as part of our journey this time, this is an accommodation where we'd love to try a multiple night stay in the future!

    The Onsen is wonderful.

    The accommodation offers three Onsen facilities: two exclusively for guests and one for day visitors, all of which were excellent. The open-air baths are spacious, and the day-use Onsen was particularly refreshing with its wide-open view, even though it wasn't located by the sea or a valley. During cherry blossom season, we enjoyed soaking in the open-air bath while admiring the beautiful rows of cherry trees. The meals were average, but all the staff we interacted with were dedicated and pleasant, which was greatly appreciated. However, there was one issue. We stayed in a room for six people with a bedroom but only had four guests. Two futons were cramped into a small space right next to the entrance hallway, which was surprising and uncomfortable. It felt as if two people using beds were treated as masters while those on futons seemed like servants—a rather unpleasant impression. The beds themselves were of excellent quality; however, to enhance overall satisfaction, improvements in futon arrangements would be appreciated. When we moved the futons to a larger room ourselves and doubled up unused mattresses underneath them for better comfort, it made a significant difference. If this setup had been provided from the start, our impression of this accommodation would have been much more positive overall.

    Everything was perfect except for dinner.

    Dinner seemed to be mass-produced, and while not everything, some dishes tasted like they were reheated and lacked distinctiveness. Therefore, I rated it 3 stars. The staff's service was excellent.

    It was a Ryokan that exceeded expectations.

    Drawn by the tagline "A Ryokan Built by Master Carpenters," I decided to stay here. It turned out to be an even more amazing Ryokan than I had imagined. As someone involved in forestry and timber, I was impressed by the exceptional quality of the wood used in the building—materials that are nearly impossible to obtain nowadays. The construction techniques were highly advanced, with intricate decorative details on the fittings. If built today, it would likely cost around 10 million yen per tsubo (3.3 square meters). The wooden architecture reminded me of Towada Hotel, said to have been built by master carpenters from Tohoku. On top of that, the cuisine was excellent, and the silky Onsen water worked wonders for my neuralgia. Even the wood used for the open-air bath was impressive and bold in design. This is definitely one of those Ryokans I'd love to stay at again if given another opportunity!

    I was healed by indulging in Onsen.

    I visited for the first time with my daughter. I had read online about the excellent reputation of the building, so I was really looking forward to it. As we entered from the entrance to the lobby, it was spacious and beautiful. In the center, there were Hina dolls displayed, creating a fantastic atmosphere. The room was a new guest room located quite far back and was a Japanese-Western style room. It was spacious enough and clean, though I could slightly hear footsteps from upstairs. The TV was large, and the beds were wide and comfortable. The Onsen allowed access to three different baths, all apparently using the same hot spring source with alkaline silky water that made our skin smooth—my daughter loved it! The indoor bath had just the right temperature. Since it was winter, the outdoor bath felt slightly cooler but offered a sense of openness with its spaciousness and stunning snowy scenery. For dinner, we enjoyed delicious sashimi and sukiyaki with satisfying portions of meat. Every dish tasted great! Breakfast was served buffet-style with plenty of variety—I ended up eating too much! My daughter especially loved how rich and creamy their carbonara pasta was; she even went back for seconds. The facility is vast with long hallways that provided good exercise while walking around. True to its reputation, this accommodation gave us a sense of luxury in such an impressive building. Next time, I’d love to visit Seiryukan as well! All staff members greeted us warmly throughout our stay which made for a pleasant experience overall.

    The hot water was excellent.

    I stayed in a Japanese-style Room in the new building. The room was very clean, with high ceilings that made it feel spacious. The bath in the East Wing was nearby, while the West Wing required a bit of walking, which turned out to be good exercise. The bath in the East Wing was large and featured an open-air bath that felt amazing. With a pH level above 9, the water was silky smooth and not too hot, allowing for a long soak that left me feeling thoroughly warmed. Dinner was delicious and filling even for women with smaller appetites. It’s great that Shuttle Service is available until late hours.

    The open-air bath was amazing.

    I stayed at Yamanokami Onsen for 2 nights and 3 days. On the first day, I stayed at Yukaan, and on the second day, I stayed at Seiryukan. The open-air bath in the snow was amazing. The room was a new guestroom, clean, and comfortable to stay in. The meals were delicious, and the breakfast buffet was very satisfying. Thank you for celebrating my birthday as well.

    First Visit

    I stayed for a multiple night stay during the year-end holiday to relax and recover from the year's fatigue. As mentioned in reviews, the onsen quality was excellent, and I enjoyed soaking in it multiple times. Although I prefer not to write negative comments, I am sharing this feedback with hopes for improvement. This time, I brought my 3-year-old child along, but towels and amenities were not prepared in the room and had to be requested separately (towels needed to be brought from the room to the onsen). My child is a girl but was somehow treated as a boy despite wearing feminine clothing, which felt uncomfortable. During our stay, we could choose how our room would be cleaned for consecutive nights; however, if opting for minimal cleaning services only, it might be nice to offer small gestures like a complimentary bottle of water. The massage on the first day was incredibly relaxing that I made another reservation for the next day. Unfortunately, even after 30 minutes past my reserved time slot, no staff arrived. Due to meal schedules and other factors, I had no choice but to cancel the reservation. While feeling sorry towards the massage staff member involved, it became difficult emotionally for me to feel relaxed afterward. Many staff members wore beginner badges during this visit—understandable given current circumstances—but there were significant differences between well-trained staff and beginners resulting in inconsistent service quality (possibly contributing reasons behind mixed reviews). If prices were significantly lower than they are now—offering "you get what you pay" expectations—it wouldn't have been much concern; however at these price levels combined with current quality standards feels slightly disappointing since better hospitality exists elsewhere at more affordable accommodations. Raising prices should come alongside matching hospitality improvements because people naturally expect value proportionality either way. Regrettably unlikely returning again myself yet sincerely hope future guests won't face similar experiences hence sharing constructive criticism here apologetically. That said—the onsen's water quality truly stood out wonderfully!

    Wedding anniversary

    A large hotel amidst magnificent nature The quality of the hot spring water was excellent, and the room, apparently built during the bubble era, was luxurious but had a musty smell. When we went for dinner, the female staff member who had shown us to our room earlier was standing there, but when a group of guests called out to her, we were left behind. When we went to speak to her, she simply said, "Your table is over there," without any apology for the wait. It's disappointing.

    Very satisfied even with the heavy rain!

    Unfortunately, it was heavy rain, but I was satisfied with the meals, hot springs, and hospitality. The greenery wet by the rain was also beautiful. It was my first time entering an open-air bath with an umbrella, and seeing the transparent umbrella spread over the surface of the water was like... a jellyfish. It made me laugh. Thank you for the wonderful memories.

    The ambiance and the meals were wonderful. The building is purely Japanese-style, with high ceilings and an elaborate design, creating a spacious yet calm atmosphere. The bathroom was also adequately spacious, and the open-air bath was particularly nice. The meals were very elaborate and I was very satisfied. However, there seemed to be a lack of elevators, which raised concerns about moving to the second floor for those with physical disabilities. Nonetheless, it is an inn I would like to visit again.

    With some ingenuity, satisfaction could be improved further.

    We stayed for one night with two meals as a couple. The view from the lobby was very nice, but the corridor leading to the room felt somewhat old-fashioned, and I noticed a slightly musty smell, which dampened my spirits. Our room was a Japanese-style room with a bedroom on the first floor, opposite the mountain side. Although it was understandable that the view from the window was not very appealing, it would be nice if something could be done to improve it (though I have no ideas). The furnishings and amenities in the room were mostly classical wooden pieces that seemed intricately crafted, and they created a nice atmosphere in slightly dim lighting (they could be effectively used as materials to enhance the texture). There were three baths in total, two with open-air baths and one shared with day-trip guests. We used the two that were not shared with day-trip guests. The smaller one allowed us to feel the greenery of the mountains and was pleasant. The larger one felt like an enlarged version of a town bathhouse's indoor bath (it gets deep suddenly, so adding stairs would be better), and the open-air bath had a rustic feel as if it were by the riverbank (whether this is good or bad depends on personal preference, but adding a bit more luxury would align it more with my taste). Was it inevitable that the water temperature in all the open-air baths was low? There was an insect repellent net at the entrance to the open-air bath, but it would be better if its appearance could be improved. There were posters and photos of famous people who had visited in the past, along with their signatures, displayed in the corridor, but it felt cheap. It might be more stylish to briefly introduce them at reception instead. Dinner was served in a space partitioned off in the banquet hall. It felt very much like a partitioned space, which lowered my mood, so it might change if they could be creative with the partition materials and space arrangement. The food itself was delicious, but since it was pre-prepared and placed on the table, it felt like a "banquet." If they took the time to serve it, it might lead to more drink orders, so it could be worth considering. I've written various things on my own, but it seemed like an inn that could be improved in many ways with some creativity.

    Deep gratitude for the irregular response.

    I used this accommodation after watching the Omagari fireworks. Although I checked in late at night, I was treated with great courtesy and kindness. I couldn't have dinner due to time constraints, but breakfast was full of dishes made with local ingredients, all of which were delicious, and the hot springs were clean and wonderful. I would like to visit again to enjoy the inn at a leisurely pace. Thank you very much.

    An inn I want to visit again

    On my second consecutive trip to Tohoku since last year, I decided to stay at Hanamaki Onsen this time. After much deliberation, I chose this inn. In conclusion, everything was simply wonderful, and I would love to visit again. Due to the inn's circumstances, we were shown to a spacious room that was almost too large to fully utilize, but we had a very comfortable stay. The young staff with beginner marks were also very earnest, answering any questions thoroughly, and their smiles were heartwarming. The dinner was meticulously prepared, and everything was delicious (the tomato shabu-shabu was exquisite!). In the breakfast restaurant, an elderly gentleman noticed our slight disappointment at not having a window-side seat and promptly informed us when one became available. A woman who I asked about the dressing refill also responded with a smile, making for a pleasant morning. Furthermore, the cleaning staff we passed in the hallway greeted us with genuine smiles, and a man standing near the front desk as we were leaving kindly spoke to us while we were taking photos. I felt the spirit of hospitality from every staff member. The only slight disappointment was with a female staff member sitting next to the beginner-marked staff who was handling our checkout (his smile was lovely and soothing). She did not look up or greet us even once as we left after settling the bill. However, aside from that, it had been a while since I felt such thorough hospitality, and I was truly glad to have stayed here. The onsen was a bit far from the room, but the open-air bath was incredibly spacious, and the silky texture of the water made my skin smooth and was truly delightful. If anyone is unsure about which inn to choose at Hanamaki Onsen, I highly recommend this one. I will visit again! Thank you for taking care of us!
