Glad you chose us.
Everything was perfect across all categories. In particular, having meals in a private dining room allowed us to relax and enjoy them at our own pace.

It was a relaxing accommodation.
It was a very relaxing Accommodation. Although the building has a sense of history, it was thoroughly cleaned and well maintained, so we enjoyed a very comfortable stay. The staff kindly accommodated many of our requests, and we truly appreciate it. Of course, the service was excellent! The meals were also delicious, including Yonezawa beef filet steak and shabu-shabu. The semi-open-air bath in the Room was supplied with natural hot spring water, and the quality of the water was wonderful. It is an Accommodation that made us want to come back for a Multiple Night Stay.

Stayed in a room wit...
Stayed in a room with a semi-open-air bath. The two public baths (one of which is semi-open-air) are small, but the water temperature seems to be subtly adjusted based on room temperature, air temperature, and wind conditions. The private open-air bath in the room is filled from the bottom of the tub rather than from above. Both were at my ideal temperature, allowing me to enjoy a deep sleep after bathing before bed. Many accommodations with private baths fill them from above, often resulting in lukewarm water by morning. Some places I’ve stayed recently seem to prevent this by releasing more hot water at an appropriate temperature (probably), but this method was also impressive. The meals were excellent. Instead of the usual sashimi (tuna, shrimp, etc.) served at other accommodations during dinner, they offered fugu milt sourced locally from Shonai—a reminder that fugu can now be caught even in Tohoku. The Yamagata beef steak was cooked perfectly medium; even just the side dishes paired wonderfully with sake. At breakfast, instead of raw vegetable salad, they served warm vegetables (steamed vegetables that held their shape when picked up with chopsticks yet melted on the tongue), which left a lasting impression. A truly comfortable accommodation overall. I’m glad I chose this place for my year-end trip!

I had a relaxing time.
It was a girls' trip with my elderly mother and sister. Although we were initially concerned about bears, the peaceful and spacious environment made us completely forget about it, allowing us to relax and unwind. The place was impeccably clean, and we truly appreciated the thoughtful consideration for our food preferences (meat or fish). My mother has already expressed her desire to visit again. Thank you for taking care of us!

The bathroom is inconvenient.
The staff was friendly, but the musty smell in the Room was concerning. Additionally, there were two small baths, one indoor and one semi-outdoor (with large open windows), but they were not connected, requiring guests to dry off, get dressed, and move between them, which was inconvenient.

Excellent service and exceptional cuisine.
I made a last-minute reservation about 5 days ago. Even though it was a long weekend, there were vacancies, and the price was reasonable, so I didn't have high expectations (sorry), but it turned out to be an amazing accommodation! **Facility:** While the facility is a bit old, it is very clean. The room had a private bath that looked like an older household bathtub, but onsen water came directly from the faucet, and even the shower used onsen water! It was very convenient to bathe our toddler in onsen water right in our room. We hardly encountered other guests within the facility. The dining area was private with individual rooms where we couldn't hear any noise from others. The lobby offered complimentary coffee service as well as books such as children's picture books and travel magazines that could be borrowed freely. The public bath wasn't large; however, since there are few guest rooms and many of them come with private open-air baths, we were able to use it almost exclusively every time we went—so no issues at all! The showers here also used onsen water! All necessary amenities were provided as well. **Meals:** We chose a reasonably priced plan with lighter meals since we planned to enjoy food while sightseeing; however, the meal turned out to be so luxurious and plentiful that I couldn't tell why this plan was considered "light." It felt like standard ryokan-level cuisine in terms of quality and quantity. The taste was excellent too! Additionally, although our toddler's plan did not include meals, they kindly provided rice, soup, and furikake free of charge for her. Many places automatically include meals and bedding for children over 3 years old; however, since my child dislikes kids' meal sets (usually only taking one or two bites before stopping) but enjoys sharing portions from adult dishes instead—having an option without included meals was greatly appreciated. **Service:** From younger staff members to more senior ones—all provided warmhearted service filled with care. When I asked about an event happening nearby at that time—they kindly explained directions along with timing details which helped us greatly. Overall—it’s truly an exceptional accommodation offering value beyond its price point! If I visit Akayu Onsen again someday—I would love another stay here. Thank you very much!

I had a relaxing time.
I booked Accommodation at Mori no Yu while searching for a place to stay on my way to Tokyo after visiting the Dewa Sanzan pilgrimage. The hot springs were excellent, the meals were delightful, and the staff's attentive service made my stay very pleasant. Thank you very much! The wine I had at the Accommodation was delicious, and when I asked the staff about it, they mentioned that Takahata Winery is nearby. I was able to visit on my way back and bought plenty of wine!

Relax your body and mind at the natural hot spring.
The Room's open-air bath is supplied with natural hot spring water, keeping your body warm and cozy even after bathing, providing an exceptional relaxation effect. The Yamagata beef dishes were tender and delicious. The pace of serving the dishes was well-timed, making it a satisfying dining experience even for those of us who are impatient.

It was my favorite accommodation.
This ryokan offers a simple yet serene and high-quality accommodation, where I have stayed several times a year for over a decade. However, recently I have started to feel some discomfort with the dinner offerings. During my latest stay, apart from the rice and soup, the only warm dish was a small hot pot. Until the hot pot was served, all dishes were cold appetizers, which felt especially uninviting during this snowy season. The tempura of tara buds served with vinegar dish was also cold as if it had just been taken out of the refrigerator, despite my hope that at least tempura would be warm. Additionally, an assortment of small appetizers on one large plate included items like kombu simmered in tea or miso-wrapped shiso leaves—dishes that seemed more suitable to accompany white rice at the end rather than as starters. To my surprise, similar kombu simmered in soy sauce appeared again alongside pickles when rice was served at the end of dinner. It felt like these dishes were added merely to increase variety rather than enhance quality. As someone who enjoys traveling across Japan by car and staying at accommodations with few rooms offering attentive service and exquisite meals in various onsen areas, this experience stood out negatively—it was my first time encountering cold tempura or such uninspired appetizers like kombu side dishes. Mori no Yu has been one of my favorite accommodations where I’ve stayed most frequently over the years; hence this disappointment feels even greater. On a positive note, breakfast featured warm and well-prepared dishes that were deliciously satisfying.

The cuisine, Onsen, and hospitality were excellent.
I had always wanted to stay here because the room's bath offers Onsen water. It was wonderful to enjoy Onsen in a reasonably priced room without an open-air bath. Being able to relax and soak in fresh Onsen as much as I wanted was amazing. The accommodation was clean, with flowers placed throughout, and all the staff provided excellent service, conveying a heartfelt sense of hospitality from the entire accommodation. Above all, the food was exceptional. It featured seasonal ingredients from the local area, beautifully presented and deliciously prepared. The Yamagata beef steak was cooked perfectly to my preference and tasted fantastic. I was thrilled that bamboo shoot rice—one of my favorites—was newly added to the menu that day! The desserts were also plentiful! For breakfast, they served shiny rice straight from a pot—it was absolutely perfect. I would love to visit again someday. Thank you very much!

Great value for money
The staff's service was very good. We were pleased that the children's rate was half of the adult's. The seasoning of the dishes was generally mild. We would like to visit this property again. Thank you very much.

Family Trip
I visit various places in Yamagata every year during this season. This was my first time using this place, but the food was delicious, and we all enjoyed the sake. The only downside was that the corridors were a bit cold, but the Onsen water was very warming and excellent. I will visit again if I have the chance.

A great accommodation where you can relax and unwind.
Although I made a last-minute Reservation just one week in advance, I appreciated that you were able to add breakfast for the next morning at check-in. I would like to stay again someday.

Onsen is the best!
It was very good. I stayed for work. I was welcomed upon arrival. The property was very well maintained, and I felt very comfortable and in a very good mood. The temperature of the onsen and the feel of the water on the skin were very, very good. I love onsen, so it was perfect. I only had breakfast included. I had it in a private room. It was very delicious, and the menu had a proper change over the two days. The pickled cherries were delicious. If I have the opportunity, I would definitely like to stay again.

Akayu Onsen
Thank you for your hospitality. Each of the staff's gentle words of hospitality resonated with me. It was my first time at Akayu Onsen, but I loved the quiet and pleasant atmosphere of Room 13 at Mori no Yu. The meals, enjoyed in a completely private room with a wonderful atmosphere for both dinner and breakfast, were very satisfying. Even at the place where I changed from slippers to shoes upon leaving, there was a tag with the same name as the room, not just a place to put shoes (a testament to the hospitality). Thank you, Mori no Yu, for a pleasant time.
