    My expectations were too high.

Given the very high ratings, I arrived with high expectations. Without such praise, I might have felt it was good, but the room, amenities, and linens did not feel luxurious. The room also had only two bath towels and two hand towels, which seemed few. Overall, it was simply average. The meals were tasty and the lounge drink service was nice, but it was not an exceptionally moving experience. At breakfast, a foreign guest next to me had orange juice and ice cream for dessert; if those options were available, I would have liked them explained. Perhaps noticing such a trivial thing means I somehow lacked a sense of satisfaction overall.

It was great the second time as well.

This was my second stay this year because I particularly enjoyed the food last time. Originally a bank's retreat, the compact front desk and building layout reflect its history. There is no greeting upon arrival, luggage assistance, or farewell service (you carry your luggage to the third-floor front desk yourself and leave on your own). However, I appreciate the stunning ocean view from the hilltop location and the cozy atmosphere with only 10 rooms. The Onsen features a 78-degree natural hot spring source, with a slightly small but pleasant open-air bath and high-quality massage chairs. This time, I stayed in a Western-style room near the elevator that was added later; it was spacious, clean, and had comfortable beds. The only downside was that the sink and toilet were adjacent without separation—though it did provide an open feel upon reflection. Dinner could only be enjoyed at the restaurant (unlike last time when in-room dining allowed for more relaxation), which was disappointing as wearing loungewear is not permitted—I would have preferred to dine in a relaxed atmosphere in loungewear. Starting February next year, dinner times will shift to two seatings; however, I hope they maintain flexibility like now where you can choose every 30 minutes. The food met expectations—delicious despite not using particularly expensive ingredients—with intricate sauces and beautiful presentation that truly felt like fine cuisine. Breakfast also offered plenty of variety and quality. Before dinner at the lounge, I ordered Royal Milk Tea which was so delicious that I ordered it again in the morning while enjoying an elegant atmosphere with ocean views through large windows. A staff member kindly offered to take my photo during this time while explaining distant scenery details—a friendly gesture that elevated my impression of this accommodation’s overall service level. Its convenient distance from Osaka makes me want to visit again!

    It was my first time...

It was my first time staying here. As an auberge, I had high expectations for the cuisine, and it did not disappoint. Moreover, the room was spacious, and the café service added to my satisfaction. While it is not one of the newer, modern accommodations, both the room and large public bath were clean and comfortable. The large public bath was equipped with ReFa hair dryers and showerheads, which I greatly appreciated. Although it's a bit far to visit frequently, I definitely want to come back again!

    A Treat for Yourself

I had always wanted to stay, and I was very satisfied with everything (in that room). The onsen was silky smooth! I would love to visit again as a treat for myself.

Stayed for one night to celebrate a birthday.

We stayed for one night to celebrate my wife's birthday. The staff were all very polite and attentive, allowing us to have a comfortable stay. The person who served our meal was especially delightful, providing detailed explanations about the wine and dishes with a cheerful and friendly demeanor. The food was excellent, and the atmosphere made it an unforgettable dining experience. The onsen was not crowded, and we also reserved a private family bath. Even the regular public bath was comfortable to use. We would love to stay here again if we have the chance.

The cuisine and Onsen were particularly excellent.

This was my first time using this service. I usually prefer Ryokans with Onsen and around 10-20 rooms, but I had given up on finding such places in Shirahama. However, this auberge, though serving Western cuisine, was excellent. Upon arrival, the entrance felt narrow with a small elevator leading to the third floor where there was a compact front desk that didn’t quite give off a typical Ryokan or Hotel vibe. Apparently, it used to be a retreat for a major bank before being purchased by Shima Seiki, known for its weaving machines. The Rooms are located on the 4th (7 rooms), 5th (2 rooms), and 6th floors (1 room). Our Room was Room 416—a spacious and well-cleaned Japanese-Western style room. Regarding the dining table height shown in IKYU.com photos—there were two types: high and low tables; ours was low which made sitting directly uncomfortable for us. However, they kindly provided chairs with raised legs upon request (both options are available). The Onsen is slightly small but includes an open-air bath with over 70°C natural hot spring water flowing directly from the source (only diluted). It was very enjoyable. The French cuisine exceeded expectations—especially dishes like Sanma confit, Sagoshi poêlé, and Wagyu steak—all paired with intricate sauces that enhanced their flavors beautifully while also being visually stunning. Everything about our stay was wonderful; however, if I may suggest one improvement—it rained during our visit so we got wet loading luggage into our car at departure due to limited roof coverage at the entrance area. Extending it would be helpful. Being close to Osaka makes it convenient—I’d love to visit again if given another opportunity!

    With grandchildren

One of the top three excellent hotels we have stayed at in recent years. Initially, our reservation for two was kindly adjusted to include our two grandchildren, allowing us to enjoy a very pleasant stay. The meals were outstanding, as expected from an auberge, and the pairing wines enhanced the experience even further. We are also grateful for the children's meals prepared for our grandchildren, whose smiles brought us joy. From the clean and well-maintained room, we enjoyed a breathtaking view of Shirahama with its deep blue sea shining like a painting under clear skies. The bath was limited to 10 groups per day, providing a private-like experience. Every aspect of service from the staff was impeccable. Thank you very much for your hospitality!

    This was my first visit.

The staff's hospitality, meals, and Onsen were all excellent. I stayed in the Premium Suite, and the meals were truly satisfying. It was a luxurious experience to have our requests carefully listened to and the food prepared right in front of us. The semi-open-air bath in the Room was also very relaxing, and I enjoyed it multiple times. I would love to visit again. Thank you very much!

    We had a wonderful stay.

I used this as a birthday gift for my mother. The teppanyaki in the Room was enjoyed in a relaxed and calm atmosphere. Following my mother's preference, the beef was cooked well-done, yet it was surprisingly tender, and even my elderly mother finished it all, which amazed me. The breakfast was also delightful with gently seasoned Japanese dishes, offering both Japanese and Western options to enjoy. I will definitely use this service again.

    I was happy.

On April 27th, we had the pleasure of staying for a one-night, two-day trip with a senior entrepreneurial couple. We stayed in a Japanese-Western style room and a Western-style room, and we are deeply grateful for the warm and attentive service provided by all the staff. For dinner, we enjoyed an authentic French course with wine pairing. Each dish was beautifully presented and delicious, perfectly complemented by the exquisite pairing of wines, leaving us truly impressed. The Japanese breakfast served the next morning was carefully prepared dish by dish, offering both visual and culinary delight. It allowed us to start our day with a heartwarming experience. The dessert and coffee served in the lounge after meals, along with complimentary drinks, were exceptional. The meticulous attention to detail until the very end left us deeply moved. Although compact in size, the Onsen was clean and full of charm. It provided an incredibly relaxing experience that rejuvenated both body and mind. We look forward to visiting again with our family next time. We eagerly anticipate that day from the bottom of our hearts. Thank you so much for your wonderful hospitality!

    An accommodation worth visiting again.

For our first visit to Nanki Shirahama, we were unsure where to stay, but choosing this accommodation turned out to be the right decision. We upgraded our dinner and paired it with wine. The seasonal course meal and thoughtfully matched wines made for an enjoyable dining experience that flew by in no time. Breakfast was a Japanese-style meal—perhaps prepared by a different chef than dinner? Both the taste and portion size were perfect. The room's refrigerator was stocked with gateau chocolat and cheesecake, while amenities like the free drink lounge, complimentary massage chairs, and spacious open-air bath added to the overall satisfaction. With only 10 groups accommodated per day, the relaxed environment combined with staff who maintained a friendly yet professional distance created an ideal atmosphere. While some accommodations might not welcome children, I found the presence of other guests' children added a warm and homely touch to this place. If I had one suggestion for improvement: when accessing by car for the first time, there were no visible signs (or perhaps we missed them), which made navigating narrow uphill roads feel uncertain—but this is only an issue on initial visits. I look forward to visiting again when there are new menu offerings!

    The Best Moments

A relaxing space and heartfelt hospitality provided a truly soothing experience. Dinner was prepared right in front of us while enjoying the ocean view, and every dish was so delicious that I ended up eating more than usual. The meat, perfectly balanced between fillet and sirloin, was irresistibly tasty even for someone who usually avoids fatty cuts. The seasoned rice we couldn't finish was made into rice balls, which I couldn't resist snacking on late at night. The Onsen in the room used natural hot spring water with noticeable benefits, making me want to bathe multiple times; however, adjusting the temperature proved challenging as it was hard to maintain an ideal level. While everything felt luxurious, the shampoo and conditioner were a bit disappointing. Breakfast was also carefully prepared dish by dish and thoroughly enjoyable. I would love to visit again!

    It was delicious.

As expected from an auberge, the French dinner was exquisite! Both the quantity and quality were very satisfying. The Japanese breakfast was also delicious in the morning! The Facility was old, and it was very cold by the window, and I was bothered by the vibration and noise from the boiler or something. It was also disappointing that there was no bedside lighting or outlet.

I want to recommend it to family and friends!

I used it from Tokyo. I am very satisfied with both the food and the Facility. The staff, both young and senior, were full of hospitality, and my companions were very pleased. It was my first time coming to Nanki Shirahama, but I truly felt glad that I came. It is an auberge I would like to recommend to family and friends. I would love to visit again. Thank you very much.
