    This does not meet IKYU’s quality standards.

    It seems this was renovated from an old Ryokan, but many details are overlooked and it’s not very user-friendly. In addition, while the young staff work hard from check-in through the Facility guidance, the operations are poorly designed and involve a lot of unnecessary movement. I didn’t see any experienced staff—perhaps they were let go during the renovation. It feels like it’s being run by part-time university students. Also, the dining area, changing area, and bath washing area are all cramped, giving a strong impression of cost-cutting. Honestly, at this price point and quality level, I felt no satisfaction at all; I don’t think this is an Accommodation that belongs on IKYU as a “high-quality” property.

    I was able to fully enjoy the hot spring, known for its skin-beautifying properties.

    This Ryokan is a beautifully renovated long-established inn. The guest rooms are on the second floor, and access to all public areas on the first floor is by stairs only, so it is not recommended for guests who have difficulty with stairs; otherwise, everything was excellent. Dinner was so plentiful we couldn’t finish it, and it was delicious. We also really enjoyed that the tableware was made from local pottery. The yudofu (tofu hot pot) at breakfast was also very tasty, and we ended up eating too much. Check-out was at 10:00, and we wished it had been 11:00 so we could have had a more relaxed morning.

    High hospitality

    The staff were all wonderful. The food was excellent, especially the Ise lobster sashimi, breakfast yudofu, Ise lobster miso soup, and rice porridge. However, the lack of an elevator and steep stairs were a downside, making it difficult for older guests. The Room and stone sauna were also small, which was another negative point.

    Several impossible things

    The parking lot is far from the entrance, and I had to carry heavy luggage with both hands while checking in. I was given the key to a room on the second floor, but no one offered to help with my luggage. Left with no choice, I carried my heavy bags up the stairs by myself. When I unlocked the Room and opened the sliding paper door at its entrance, I noticed that part of the paper was peeling off. What are this Ryokan's staff even paying attention to? Trying to shake it off, I went downstairs for a welcome drink of iced coffee. While drinking it, I saw that the same staff member who checked me in was diligently carrying another guest's luggage to their Room. Are they discriminating between guests? In addition, there was a previous guest’s toothbrush left in the trash bin of the private bath. The food was average—not particularly delicious or memorable. Overall, due to such poor service, I will never visit this place again nor recommend it to others. That is all.

    Enjoy Onsen to the Fullest

    The price difference was minimal, so we chose a room with an onsen bath directly sourced from the hot spring. We had requested in advance via email for a room with a view of the birch trees from the bath. Although there was no reply, they prepared the birch tree room as requested. The water temperature is quite hot, so letting it sit without adding cold water allows you to fully enjoy the natural spring experience. While we couldn’t open it much due to privacy concerns, the onsen in our room had the strongest sulfur scent and was very enjoyable. The nearby Sarayama area, about a 3-minute walk away, offered private access and even had a sauna, which was great; however, we found that the spring quality at this accommodation was superior. Among the gender-swapped public baths available at different times of day, I preferred the one across from reception for its sense of openness. The special samue provided were comfortable and convenient after bathing. The welcome drinks, sweets, and alcohol added value to our stay. Both dinner and breakfast were thoughtfully prepared without being overly elaborate and tasted delicious. Above all else, despite their young age, all staff members were incredibly pleasant and attentive—it made for such an enjoyable experience! When I accidentally left something behind in another building on-site, they kindly delivered it back to my room promptly—this truly moved me. Although visiting again might be difficult due to distance reasons, this is an accommodation I highly recommend!

    Charming Accommodation

    It was a charming accommodation along the Shiota River. I believe it is an accommodation that can consistently score above average. Personally, I thought the premium meal options could have been more focused on "local production for local consumption." The quality of the hot spring water is excellent, there’s a stylish café attached, and the souvenirs had great originality. However, the soundproofing in the guest rooms could be improved as external noise was slightly noticeable.

    The bathroom in the guest room was excellent.

    The best part was the private bath in the Room. The quality of the Onsen water in the Room was better than that of the public bath. However, since the source water is very hot, I was initially unsure how to adjust it to a comfortable temperature without getting burned. It would have been helpful to have instructions or tips on how to do so. Meals were served in a private room, allowing for a calm dining experience. However, regarding ingredients, I noticed that the abalone was imported and suspected that some ingredients in the rice dish (probably) were also foreign-sourced. It would have been better if local delicacies from Saga had been used instead. In fact, I found the plain white rice served on the following day more delicious. Other than that, I enjoyed services like drinks at the lobby and Ureshino tea, so overall satisfaction was high except for concerns about some food ingredients.

    It was a delicious meal.

    The Room was clean, and the bedroom was on the second floor. I slept very comfortably. Dinner and breakfast were very delicious, and the service was good. The person who took care of us during dinner was especially nice. In the middle of wearing a mask... Thank you very much. I checked out with great satisfaction and bought a few items at the souvenir shop attached to the hotel before leaving. The response from the person at the register was a bit disappointing, so I'll deduct one star from my satisfaction rating.

    No smoking on the premises.

    The smoking room in the main building lobby has been closed, and the premises have become non-smoking. Although it is a favorite Ryokan, the overall satisfaction for smokers is inevitably rated as 1, and there will be no revisit unless a smoking area is established.

    Both the main building and the annex are great, so it's hard to decide. Haha

    I reserved a detached room this time. The detached room is a bit of a walk from the main building, but there is a shuttle service available. If you want to spend your time quietly and peacefully, this option might be more relaxing. However, services like drinks and sweets are only available at the main building, so it can be a bit inconvenient to have to go there. Both the main building and the detached room have stairs, and some areas are like a maze and hard to navigate, so it might not be suitable for the elderly. The food, service, drinks, sweets, fruits, and ice cream are great, so next time I would like to use the main building. There is a foot bath, and the plan set for brunch is nice, and the adjacent souvenir shop was stylish. The night illumination was beautiful, and we talked about wanting to come during the cherry blossom season.

    The hot spring water was very good.

    This was my first time using it. I was looking forward to it because it had a good reputation from acquaintances. The hot water was really good! I had too high expectations for the food. Perhaps due to a lack of staff, the service was very slow, and the somen noodles were overcooked, which was very disappointing. I told the staff that I would like the food to be served a little faster, but it was still very slow. The welcome drink and sweets service was very nice!

    This is an accommodation I can recommend.

    A lovely inn with a rich tradition. The staff's service and hospitality are excellent. There are various services like welcome drinks, adding a sense of surprise. The meals are fulfilling. For this price and quality, the cost performance is extremely good. Thank you for taking care of us.
