    My First Niigata

    I stayed for one night on business. The location was great and I was satisfied. The Room was a bit small, but it was clean and I had no complaints. The bathroom was the same. I thought it would be nice if it were more spacious.

    The renovated rooms are exceptional.

    Thanks to an early-booking deal, we were able to stay in a newly renovated Room on the 10th floor, so we enjoyed a luxury Hotel feel at Business Hotel prices. The bed was spacious and there was also a dining table. There were two sinks—one separate vanity and another bowl sink in the unit—which was very convenient for the two of us (my sister and me). For breakfast we chose the Japanese set meal; everything, including the small side dishes, was delicious, and we could relax while looking out over the Shinano River. From how lively the restaurant and lobby were, it felt like a long-established Hotel loved by locals. The only downside is that there are limited spaces in the underground parking lot, and even including outdoor parking it is often used by non-guests as well, so depending on your arrival time you may have trouble finding an available spot.

    A dusty, unsanitary Room

    I visit Niigata often and usually stay at ANA Crowne Plaza Hotel or Hotel Italia Ken, but this was my first time staying at Niigata Grand Hotel. I arrived early and went to leave my luggage, but the male staff member at the front desk was curt and unpleasant, which immediately gave me a bad feeling. When I returned at check-in time, the process was poorly handled—they hadn’t even confirmed the courier package I had sent in advance. Because it’s an older Hotel and I was concerned about wear and tear, I made a Reservation for the “[Renovated in 2022] Hollywood Twin: Non-Smoking (23 m²)” Room (Twin). However, the hallway to Room 401 was dimly lit and felt like a run-down rural Business Hotel. The Room itself looked nothing like a renovated space—just cheap and sparse furnishings. Worse still, there was dust everywhere: around the bedside clock area, on top of the bed light, around the wall light above the pillows, and on the desk under the TV—there were no signs it had been wiped down at all. It was simply filthy. When I reported this to the front desk, they said they would change my Room. The person who brought the new key was that same rude male staff member from earlier. The second Room also had dust built up around the bed area and desk; I checked it together with a staff member. This is an unhygienic Hotel where cleaning is clearly not done properly. If they would refund me, I would rather move to another Hotel. Even Toyoko Inn or other Business Hotels have stricter cleaning standards and are more comfortable to stay in. It also takes about 15 minutes on foot to Furumachi, there are no convenience stores nearby, and it’s very inconvenient overall. I will never stay here again. This experience reminded me that what I normally receive as “standard” service is actually high-quality hospitality. From now on, even if it costs more, I will choose Hotels I can trust—this turned out to be a valuable lesson for me."""

    Although the buildin...

    Although the building was old, the Room was clean and comfortable. Since it was a reasonably priced Reservation, I didn’t have high expectations, but it turned out to be better than expected and I was very satisfied. I would like to stay here again when visiting Niigata. Thank you very much.

    A wide selection of restaurants is available.

    The restaurant was good and offered a satisfying selection. Other than that, I couldn’t rate the stay very highly. Areas for improvement: (1) front desk service, (2) the elevator is far too cold, and (3) there is no safe in the guest room.

    The courteous service was delightful!

    The exterior looked a bit old, but it was a lovely Hotel! On the day of our stay, there was also a dinner show, making it a lively Hotel! Since there were no restaurants or convenience stores around the Hotel and bad weather was forecasted, we decided to add breakfast at the last minute. Instead of a buffet, they offered a choice between Japanese set meals and Western set meals! The self-service drink selection was excellent. Being along the river, the Hotel offers great views and seems perfect for taking walks when it gets warmer! The guest room was also clean!

    A lovely Hotel by the riverside. The breakfast was luxurious and delightful. By the way, we also had lunch here.

    We stayed as a family.

    The facility feels somewhat outdated overall. However, it is kept very clean and well-maintained, so your stay will not be uncomfortable. The staff were very kind and accommodating, making it a great hotel. Breakfast was the only meal provided, but it was also very delicious.

    Cleaning and Restroom

    There were remnants of adhesive patches and dust between the bed gaps, which caused frequent sneezing. The toilet paper holder was placed in an unusual position.

    Plan name change required

    The relaxation plan mentioned views of Bandai Bridge and the Shinano River, but the room only faced a building wall. Complained to the front desk, but they responded that you can see it if you step outside the hotel. They also said room changes were not possible. The plan name should be revised.

    We arrived by car, but there was no guidance provided, and the front desk staff did not offer detailed explanations about parking unless we asked. Additionally, when we struggled with a cart loaded with luggage due to the lack of a ramp, no one offered assistance, which was disappointing. Since we were the only ones checking in at that time, perhaps this relaxed attitude is characteristic of the area? The Room was spacious and clean; however, the additional sofa bed had a protrusion in the center that surprised us. Unfortunately, it made sleeping difficult for me. I hope this can be improved. Breakfast was excellent with attentive staff and delicious Japanese-style set meals. We also purchased sweets from the restaurant entrance as souvenirs and tried their adorable canelé—it was very tasty and reasonably priced! Highly recommended!

    Repeat stay

    I stayed at this Hotel for work after a long time. It would be helpful if the stairs in front of the front desk were barrier-free. The breakfast is consistently delicious. It’s served in a Japanese-Western set meal style, which I think is of higher quality than buffet-style meals. You can also enjoy several types of beverages freely. On a sunny day with great views, I was looking at the scenery from under the blinds when a staff member kindly raised them for me—thank you for your thoughtfulness! This Hotel has a historical feel, but both the Room and bathroom were clean and comfortable to stay in. The bed was on the softer side, but as rumored, it provided an excellent sleep experience. Even in single Rooms, having a table and chair is surprisingly convenient and appreciated. The front desk staff's service was cool and composed; considering there are many international guests and increasing customer harassment cases these days, this might actually be just right. Thank you for your hospitality!

    Room without a view.

    I stayed in a Superior Twin Room. Since it was by the river, I opened the curtains expecting a view, but there was only a wall with no scenery at all. I requested a room change at the front desk, but I was told there were no vacancies for an equivalent room. When I said I would settle for a standard twin room, they informed me that even on a weekday Wednesday, they were fully booked except for one higher-grade room available. When I asked about the price, they mentioned an additional charge almost equal to the cost of my reserved room. Considering this would be quite burdensome and that we had planned to have dinner outside without including it in our reservation plan, we decided not to pay extra and stayed in the original room. I'm not sure if this issue lies with the hotel or with insufficient details provided by the reservation site; however, if there had been an explanation about the view beforehand, I wouldn't have chosen this plan in the first place. Improvement is necessary in this regard. As for breakfast, although portions were small, it featured delicious Niigata ingredients and was good Japanese cuisine overall. The staff at breakfast service were kind and accommodating as well.

    The Room is comfortable!

    It is a bit far from the station, but it is located in a quiet riverside area, and the Room was comfortable!
