    The unfortunate mistake of forgetting the message plate

    I requested a birthday message plate and received replies by email and phone, which left a good impression, but it was forgotten on the day. Although the manager apologized, their attitude felt flippant, and I was beyond angry—just stunned. Tempura was also served, but it was already cold when it arrived. When I raised this with the manager as well, I was told it had gone cold because service was delayed due to understaffing. However, shouldn’t this be solved by frying it right before serving? In addition, the menu indicated something like an “assorted three kinds of tempura,” but there was no specific explanation when it was served. Guests at another table also asked what exactly it was, and the server seemed not to know and said they would go check. This made me feel the level of service was very poor. At that point I started noticing other issues too. A staff member who joined in April wore a “new staff” badge and handled check-in together with a senior employee, but it felt like they had done no basic practice at all—almost like a press conference where the senior person whispers and the newcomer simply repeats what they were told. It felt like this Ryokan is among the worst in terms of hospitality. Overall, I do not want to stay here again under any circumstances, and I would not recommend it to anyone I know.

    The staff are friendly and welcoming.

    All the staff were incredibly friendly, and they even saw us off at the end, which made us feel wonderful. At breakfast, we enjoyed local Shinshu flavors such as mushrooms and ended up eating a lot.

    Very satisfying overall. Dinner could use a little more creativity.

    Used by 4 adults. Late April, during the first half of Golden Week (!?) We were satisfied with the spacious Room and the great Chikuma River view! The service had just the right amount of distance—also very satisfying. The Onsen was fairly spacious, and perhaps because there are three private baths, the large public bath was uncrowded, which we appreciated. The Facility feels old and not particularly luxurious, but we had no complaints. We weren’t impressed by the main dish at dinner. The portion size was fine. The breakfast buffet was delicious—especially the tororo soba, which I really liked. It was also nice to be able to eat in a relaxed atmosphere. PS I think it was probably about 70% occupied that day.

    Both the Room and th...

    Both the Room and the bath were very clean. The heartfelt hospitality from all the staff was outstanding. The meals did not use expensive ingredients, but every dish made with the chef’s care was truly satisfying. Also, the vending machines inside the building were priced the same as outside, which felt very honest. The Accommodation Fee was reasonable as well, offering excellent value for money.

    Spur-of-the-moment satisfaction guaranteed!

    Last-minute reservation for a trip to Yamanashi or Nagano to enjoy grapes within budget for two with a rental car! Despite booking the day before, an onsen was a must. The staff were friendly, and the complimentary rice gift was delightful. The onsen was free-flowing and great for the skin, and we thoroughly enjoyed the sauna. My wife also felt very relaxed. The facility is old-fashioned but not bothersome. Dinner focused on seasonal ingredients and was satisfactory, while the breakfast buffet had plenty of variety and earned top marks. Overall satisfaction: 5/5!

    It was excellent.

    We visited with a family of four and my parents. The exterior is slightly aged (which adds charm), but the interior has been renovated and is very clean. The high ceilings and atmosphere give off the feel of a classic Onsen Ryokan from a bygone era, which I absolutely loved. My parents were also delighted, saying, "It's so grand; you don't see places like this much anymore." The food was delicious, the room was clean and spacious, and the view was wonderful—overall, an excellent accommodation. It seemed they might have been slightly understaffed during dinner as there was only one person serving our group of six in a private room. It looked like it could be challenging for them at times. So we tried to coordinate our requests for rice refills to make things easier on them. However, they were very accommodating and pleasant throughout, so it didn’t feel uncomfortable at all. Highly recommended!

    The meals and services were somewhat disappointing.

    The onsen at this traditional accommodation was very relaxing and enjoyable. However, the meals were underwhelming in both quality and quantity. Additionally, it seemed like there were not enough staff members, as they appeared overwhelmed during meal service. Drink orders were delayed (and even forgotten), which did not provide a pleasant service experience. I understand that many places are operating with fewer staff nowadays, but I believe improvements could be made through innovative approaches to meal service and serving methods. At breakfast, which was served buffet-style, the staff lacked smiles or greetings, leaving a less-than-positive impression. Considering it was the Obon season and priced at 30,000 yen per person—slightly on the expensive side—I regret not choosing another accommodation instead. It’s disappointing.

    A bit disappointing.

    Located in a scenic spot overlooking the Chikuma River, the exterior and structure give the impression of a once magnificent accommodation. The courtyard, hot springs, and large bath were truly exceptional, living up to the reputation of a long-established accommodation. While some aging in the room is inevitable, it was noticeable. The dining area was a large venue reminiscent of a ski resort restaurant with no partitions, limiting private conversations with my wife. The meals themselves—both dinner and breakfast—were excellent in variety and taste, which made this aspect all the more disappointing.

    Shinano Journey

    I have visited Kamiyamada Onsen several times, but the hospitality at Seifuen was exceptional. The tea service during check-in at the front desk was delightful and memorable, as I don't recall experiencing such a gesture before. I was also pleasantly surprised to receive a discount coupon for the first time. The staff's warm words added to the travel excitement, creating wonderful memories—thank you! I am already planning my next visit using the discount coupon. The weather was perfect with clear skies, making it an unforgettable experience.

    It was a pleasant accommodation.

    Although it was a weekday during Golden Week, I didn't have high expectations. Perhaps due to the busy period, I often experienced less-than-ideal service. However, the first impression was excellent thanks to the staff's warm hospitality. The accommodation was clean, the food was delicious, and the Onsen provided a relaxing experience with great water quality. It was a perfect stay after a long time. I would love to visit again!

    Had a great stay!

    This accommodation was featured on NHK's "Relaxing Solo Onsen Trip." Due to certain circumstances, I opted for a standard room to keep costs down and didn't have high expectations. However, contrary to my expectations, the room was spacious, the meals were plentiful and delicious, making me wonder if this Accommodation Fee was really sufficient. Of course, the onsen is excellent as well. It's highly recommended as it's conveniently located just 1.5 hours from Tokyo via Ueda to Togura Station.

    It was amazing!

    The room, meals, and Onsen were all excellent! During dinner, a staff member wearing glasses kindly changed the dessert to a graduation plate as a surprise for our graduation trip. It was so touching (T T). I would love to visit again! :)

    Compared to the same...

    Compared to the same period last year when I stayed, it feels like the service has been simplified. Even though it was during a three-day weekend, the meals did not match the price. Also, the futon was worn out, causing pain in my hips and back. Disappointing.

    It was nice that tow...

    It was nice that towels and bath towels were always available in the large public bath, so we could go empty-handed. The bath and open-air bath were spacious, and the changing room was clean. We had dinner in a private room, and the portion was just right. The breakfast buffet had a wide variety and used many local specialties from Nagano, which was very delicious. Unfortunately, there were several concerns with the service provided by the room attendant. However, the service from the other staff was good.

    It is a very good Ryokan.

    The meals were delicious, and the hospitality of the staff was excellent. The Onsen was also pleasant, and I am truly satisfied with this service at this cost.
