    The meals are excellent.

    The Accommodation buildings are scattered across a spacious property, offering a relaxing escape from the bustle of the city. But the greatest highlight here is the wonderful dinner. The menu is thoughtfully crafted, with many unique and unusual dishes. The chef’s dedication really shows in the food, and I was very satisfied. The Onsen is also excellent, with free-flowing natural hot spring water. I didn’t know there was such a great place in Kokonoe.

    Second visit after a year

    I stayed here both last time and this time as a base for hiking in the Kuju Mountain Range. I love the location, as it’s close to trailheads for any of the mountains. Also, since it’s a detached unit, it’s nice to be able to relax without worrying about other guests. On the other hand, during my 2-night, 3-day stay, there was one day of heavy rain. It wasn’t a leak from the ceiling; moisture came up from under the floor and the area around the sofa was soaking wet. Fortunately I hadn’t placed any belongings there, so nothing was damaged, but I informed Hotel staff for the sake of future guests. However, perhaps because Japanese is not their native language, they didn’t understand at all and eventually looked visibly annoyed. It felt like my good intentions in reporting it were completely disregarded. If they can’t understand, I hope they won’t just try to brush it off and instead respond flexibly—for example by calling someone who understands Japanese.

    It was excellent.

    All the staff greeted us with warm smiles and made us feel very welcome, so we were able to relax and enjoy our stay. The meals were gently seasoned to bring out the quality of the ingredients, and everything—from the presentation and service to the location—was wonderful; we were truly impressed. The in-room bath was quite hot at first, but as we had been advised, we added cold water and adjusted it to our liking. The spring quality was excellent—I soaked four times. However, the bedroom had only a mattress laid directly on a wooden floor at the bottom of the stairs; tatami would have been fine, but with wooden flooring, a raised bed frame would have been more comfortable. Overall, we were extremely satisfied, and it has become our favorite Accommodation—we definitely want to return in another season.

    I’d love to come back in another season and enjoy the food again.

    Both dinner and breakfast were absolutely delicious. Each dish was thoughtfully composed to highlight the natural character of local ingredients, and I could truly sense the chef’s deep understanding of—and respect for—the produce. What left the strongest impression was the foamed new potato soup. It offered not only the gentle sweetness of the potatoes but also a satisfying roasted aroma, and it paired perfectly with the aonori seaweed bread served alongside. The shiitake steak wasn’t on the menu, but it conveyed the chef’s desire to serve each ingredient in its most delicious form based on what was available that day, reminding me once again of how powerful great ingredients can be. The straw-grilled Bungo beef carried a wonderfully toasty fragrance from the straw while preserving the meat’s delicate umami. Overall, it felt like cuisine that puts ingredients center stage and supports them with skillful technique. Enjoying the chef’s craftsmanship and sensibility at dinner, then tasting Kuju’s abundance at breakfast—it was a truly luxurious experience. I would love to return in another season and enjoy more of the chef’s creations. Thank you for a wonderful meal.

    Although this Room was originally listed as having some issues,

    Only the largest Room was available, so we made a Reservation. It was quite expensive. At the time, I didn’t notice that it was listed as having special circumstances. This is my first time writing a Review. I don’t want to be seen as a complainer, but because this is a Facility in such a wonderful location, I felt it could become a serious issue if left as is, so I am writing this intentionally. - Upon arrival, we were simply handed the key with no explanation in the Room. Later, we couldn’t figure out things like where the button was to open/close the curtains, and staff had to come to the Room to explain. - When we entered the Room, the bath had not been filled. We contacted staff and had it filled afterward; they apologized. - This is on us for not noticing what was stated beforehand, but the open-air bath can no longer be used. - The large window frame in the Room was warped with a gap at the top and had not been repaired. - The coffee capsules for the coffee machine were not replenished; we contacted staff and had them restock them. - Although it was still cold at night, underfloor heating could not be used, and there was no prior explanation. - We went to the large public bath, but the water was scalding hot and unusable. Another guest who arrived before us contacted staff; staff added cold water, and we were made to wait inside until it cooled down. - At dinner we ordered an alcohol pairing set; my companion was surprised when they brought a second drink with ice before finishing the first. - Hot water already took an extremely long time to come out in general, but late at night there was no hot water from the shower at all. - The Facility has Wi-Fi, but it was very weak and difficult to use. - When returning to our Room after dinner, all streetlights were off and it was pitch-dark and dangerous. For some reason they were on again by morning. The location is excellent, the quality of the hot spring water is good, and all staff members were kind—but there were simply too many disappointing issues. Since many of your staff are foreign nationals (which is not an issue in itself), I wonder whether there are problems with on-site supervision by management—and whether there is a willingness to improve when issues are pointed out. We also heard that renovations of this Facility are being treated as a trial by your parent company; given their financial resources, I questioned why these problems remain unresolved. This became long, but because I truly hope this becomes an even better Facility again soon، I wrote this based on objective facts.

    静かな宿が第一条件

    The staff's customer service attitude was disappointing.

    The location, meals, and hot springs were wonderful. However, it was disappointing that the staff's awareness was lacking. They were unable to show consideration for the elderly or respond flexibly. They also lacked basic knowledge about the alcohol served in the restaurant, and I felt there was a lack of knowledge in handling wine. These are basic things, so I believe it could become a very good accommodation with future improvements. This is just my subjective opinion, so I think it can still be a comfortable place to stay even if not taken too seriously.
