    The seafood at this Accommodation was exceptionally delicious.

    Staying in this relocated traditional house made me feel pleasantly nostalgic. It was also great that the bath was available 24 hours a day—my skin felt smooth and moisturized afterward. And above all, the seafood was outstanding. Every dish felt like a main course, and then the final blow was the nodoguro rice bowl—I thought my stomach would burst, but it was so delicious I couldn’t leave any and finished it all. Even though I wasn’t fully hungry yet, breakfast was incredibly good as well. It was my first time eating squid with grated daikon—what an eye-opener; I’m going to try it at home. The rice was delicious too, and then there was even abalone-and-mozuku rice porridge with a nice kick of ginger. Once again, I ate everything. I was afraid to step on the scale after getting home. But I definitely want to come back.

    It was a wonderful accommodation!

    A stately traditional Japanese house, spacious rooms with a view of the Sea of Japan, silky smooth Onsen waters, warm hospitality, and a variety of delicious seafood served one after another—everything was exceptional. It was a wonderful accommodation where you can truly relax. I would love to visit again if I have the chance.

    Thank you for your hospitality. We visited with high expectations for the meals based on reviews. For a Ryokan in this price range, greetings upon arrival and departure were quite minimal (almost non-existent), which felt impersonal. The overall "hospitality" was somewhat lacking as well. However, since we were primarily looking forward to the meals, we didn’t mind too much. Unfortunately, perhaps due to the season, the meals did not meet our expectations entirely. The difference became more noticeable as the accommodation we stayed at the next day turned out to be one of the best experiences of our lives. On a positive note, the bath was fantastic with silky smooth water! We would like to visit again during crab season!

    Recommended Accommodation in Fukui

    I moved from Tokyo to Fukui and stayed at an accommodation I had always wanted to visit. This ryokan is usually hard to book, but miraculously, I was able to secure a reservation during Obon. I invited an American family from Tokyo, and along with my husband, the five of us stayed for one night. While the winter crab season brings many tourists to the Echizen Coast with its abundant crab catches steaming in vibrant red hues, summer offers the breathtaking beauty of "ECHIZEN BLUE." According to a friend who works as an ama diver, the water clarity remains consistent year-round; however, in summer, seaweed burns away revealing the seabed's blue hue. The area is rich in seaweed and fish—a truly bountiful sea. We enjoyed freshly caught abalone from this ocean and indulged in a seafood dinner featuring only locally sourced fish. The American guests were deeply impressed by this unique dining experience. Breakfast featured squid somen as its centerpiece—made from squid caught by fishing boats just the previous night. A one-minute walk from Ryokan Yamazaki leads you to a beach where you can float effortlessly due to what seems like high salinity levels in Echizen's waters. Diving reveals plenty of fish beneath the surface. The room was beautifully renovated from an old traditional house and offered a charming atmosphere. The onsen water was gentle and incredibly soothing—a truly relaxing experience that makes me want to return again. This ryokan is not just about luxurious onsen baths or gourmet meals; it also provides opportunities for cultural immersion. During our stay, we happened upon a local summer festival that reflected the warm spirit of this fishing town—a comforting accommodation deeply connected with its surroundings.

    The food is truly delicious.

    We enjoyed fresh fish to our heart's content, and every dish was absolutely delicious. The Onsen water was silky smooth, leaving our skin soft and smooth. The staff at the accommodation were very kind.

    The crab miso served in the shell is delicious.

    This accommodation offers a delightful crab feast that will satisfy any crab lover. The variety and quality of the dishes, including fresh sashimi and grilled crab miso in the shell, are exceptional. Breakfast features a delicious crab porridge, perfect for starting your day. Other seafood options like squid sashimi are also highly recommended. While there may be minor inconveniences such as limited room amenities or an early check-out time at 10:00 AM, the outstanding meals make this accommodation truly worthwhile.

    Cost performance of Echizen crab

    I had authentic crab for the first time in a while. It was delicious, but it didn't compare to the volume and flavor of the Matsuba crab I had at a minshuku in Kasumi-cho, Hyogo Prefecture, and the amount of meat was average with a bland taste. It's understandable given the skyrocketing crab prices, but it was disappointing for the price. However, the architecture of the old folk house where I stayed was nice. The quiet Ryokan with the sound of the waves was comfortable.

    We enjoyed local fish at a traditional Japanese house. We were very satisfied. Before leaving the Stays, we also made a reservation for the crab season.

    Thank you for the feast.

    I was already impressed by the deliciousness of the meals. I travel quite often, but I happened to see a video and decided to visit. The room was new and clean, and the bed was so comfortable that my husband, who usually can't sleep well while traveling, said he slept like a log. The meals, both breakfast and dinner, were amazing in both quality and quantity, and I was truly impressed. The portions were so large that we couldn't finish them. I feel sorry for the person who prepared them. The bath was also a slippery hot spring and felt great. Perfect score. I will visit again, perhaps for a birthday. Thank you very much. Just one thing... the water flow at the handwashing area was a bit low, so it would have been more pleasant to wash hands and face if it was a bit stronger.
