    A relaxing Accommodation you’ll want to return to again and again

    I was satisfied with everything—the meals, the Room, the Onsen, the staff, and the overall atmosphere of this Hotel, which feels a bit old (in a charming retro way). I originally planned to stay at “Hotel de Miroir,” but decided to try a different Accommodation for a change, and I’m glad I ended up staying here. It was the third night of our 4-night, 5-day drive from home (Kobe), and I was fairly tired, but it exceeded my expectations. This is an Accommodation I’d like to visit again in a different season. (I was able to relax and take my time with both the meals and the Onsen.) Thank you to all the staff.

    It was wonderful.

    This was our first stay here, and among all the places we’ve visited, it was the best Accommodation for Western-style cuisine. Thank you to all the staff for your hospitality from welcome to farewell. The Room (very relaxing) and the bath (the in-room bath was more than enough) were both excellent. Above all, the meals were outstanding—both dinner and breakfast. Each dish was beautifully presented (including the tableware) and delicious, and we were amazed by how many items there were in the Japanese breakfast (we finished everything). We will definitely visit again during the autumn foliage season. One request: it would be nice to have body wash towels available in the bath area.

    A wonderful Accommodation just as described in the Reviews

    This was one of the Accommodations I’d been wanting to visit because of its high Reviews. The delicious French cuisine, the comfortable dining area, and the relaxing private bath were all wonderful. It’s easy to see why so many guests return.

    A Comfortable and Luxurious Accommodation

    Everything about this Accommodation was comfortable and luxurious, from the meals and the building’s atmosphere to the view from the window, the staff’s hospitality, and even the water temperature. It makes me want to return in different seasons.

    I’m looking forward to it.

    This Accommodation feels so relaxing, like coming back home for us. This time as well, we stayed in the same Room as last time, and the same staff member served our meals. Thank you very much. We heard that a bungalow-style Accommodation will be built in the not-too-distant future. We were relieved to hear that even if the layout and Rooms have a different design, meals will continue to be served in the same style as before, and we are already very much looking forward to staying at the new Lapin.

    Meals were served in a separate dining room, so we could enjoy them at a relaxed pace. The dishes were delicate and beautifully prepared. For elderly guests, even just one main course would be sufficient. Everything was very clean. The staff were very kind. I’d love to visit again in a different season.

    It was a wonderful late spring day.

    This was my second visit. After my last stay, I had been hoping to return because the Room, furnishings, bath, and meals were all wonderful. This time exceeded my expectations in every way as well. The meals in particular were outstanding: they carefully accommodated my preferences and allergies, and prepared beautifully flavored dishes using plenty of seasonal vegetables and wild mountain plants. I heard that you plan to relocate to a newly built property nearby sometime next year. I would love to visit once more before you move.

    Not bad, but not worth the price.

    The service staff were very courteous, so I hesitate to be too harsh, but compared with other Accommodations in the same price range where I have stayed, it honestly felt underwhelming. If I were to put a fair price on this stay, ¥55,000 per night for two people with dinner and breakfast would be appropriate (the actual payment was ¥77,000). Points that stood out: - There were no younger staff members. A few quite elderly staff seemed to be running everything, which made me worry about them. - Based on Reviews I had high expectations for the meals, but among the 7–8 dishes, only the main beef steak and the bread were truly good. The “Hotel classic” cabbage steak was less tasty than one I have made myself in the past. Perhaps because they try to force local seasonal ingredients (such as tara-no-me sprouts and butterbur) into French cuisine, the flavors overall felt unfocused. Also, although it was chilly that day, starting with multiple cold dishes in a row was not ideal. Sorry to be blunt, but it felt less like professional French cuisine and more like “French-style home cooking.” - Breakfast was also very ordinary (sausages, omelet, etc.), and having tofu in the salad again brought to mind “French-style home cooking.” The bread was freshly baked and delicious. - There is a lounge inside the Hotel as well, but it is small—only enough for having coffee. The massage chair was an old model and too painful to use. - Overall it did not go beyond what feels like an extension of a privately/family-run pension; only the pricing is on par with a top-tier Ryokan level, which seems questionable. - That said, the Room itself is modernly appointed and the in-room bath was extremely comfortable. It is also nice that there is a separate dining space provided.

    Highly Rated Accommodation

    It was our first stay, and this Accommodation exceeded our expectations. The meals were the best we have ever had at any Accommodation. In particular, the French cuisine made excellent use of seasonal vegetables with gentle seasoning, making it easy for us as a couple to enjoy. The plates were warmed as well, so the food stayed hot—everything was prepared with great care. The bread was also so delicious that we ended up eating too much. Breakfast is simple, but so tasty it makes you want more rice. The staff were very kind and helped us with anything we needed. It is a truly comfortable Accommodation. We would love to return in a different season.

    I was finally able to return, just as I had hoped.

    This was our first return visit in 17 years, since we stayed here the year we got married. The Accommodation did feel a bit aged, but it was still the same Lapin we remembered, which made us so happy. The understated hospitality was unchanged, and we had a comfortable stay with no inconveniences at all. Our daughter—who wasn’t born 17 years ago and is now 14—was also deeply impressed, and I’m truly glad we brought her. The meals in particular were outstanding. To put it bluntly (in a good way), they were far beyond what you’d expect to find in a rural mountain area: each dish had deep flavor, and every course—built around local vegetables—made the most of the ingredients’ natural taste. It was exceptional food that will stay in our memories for a long time. We stayed in the same Room with the stone sauna as back then, and it felt so wonderful that our daughter went in again and again. Even as she grows up, we’d like to keep visiting Lapin regularly, and this trip confirmed that the emotion we felt 17 years ago was absolutely real. It’s rare to find such an appealing Hotel. Please let us remain fans for many years to come!

    An Accommodation You’ll Want to Visit Again

    Everything—from the meals and the Room to the Onsen, the staff, and the overall atmosphere of the Hotel—was wonderful, and I’m glad we were able to stay. Thank you for taking such good care of us. It took a fair amount of time to drive from home, but it was so fulfilling that it more than made up for the trip. This is an Accommodation I’d love to revisit in a different season and try a different Room. This time we stayed in a Room with a massage chair, and we were able to relax at our own pace—enjoying the view from the large window, soaking in the Onsen, and getting massages. Breakfast was great as well as dinner; both Japanese- and Western-style options were very satisfying.

    Almost nothing to complain about!

    From the warm welcome and welcome drink to the Onsen, dinner, breakfast, and send-off—everything we were looking for was a perfect 10/10! The food was truly delicious—so much so that we definitely want to come again. None of the fish had any odor, and my American husband also said it was delicious and enjoyed it. All of the staff were very courteous, and you could really feel their spirit of hospitality. Most things are conveniently available in your Room, but if you want to use the private semi-open-air bath or indoor bath, there are stairs to go up and down, so guests with mobility issues should take care. The only downside was that the bed was quite firm. I have back problems and struggled to fall asleep. That said, while the pricing is on the higher side, it’s well worth it! It was a truly wonderful Accommodation!

    It’s easy to see why so many guests return—this place is truly relaxing.

    It’s true that the Facility itself is aging, and in the shared areas some of the display items and crafts have faded. Still, I could imagine how wonderful it must have been in its prime. The meals and the Onsen are beyond reproach. The food focuses on fish and vegetables, easy on the stomach, and lets the natural flavors shine through. Even with just one night, I soaked in the Onsen five times. The service had a warm, local charm from the ladies of the area, and it felt genuine rather than forced. I immediately wanted to make a Reservation for early summer greenery or autumn foliage season, but it doesn’t seem easy to get one. This time my days off happened to match an opening, but I became a fan all at once.

    Snowy Scenery

    Living in a place with almost no snow, I choose winter Onsen destinations seeking snowy landscapes. Last year, I visited the heavy snowfall area of Minakami in Gunma, but this year I decided on this accommodation after enjoying it during an autumn visit. I considered Urabandai as well but was concerned about excessive snow there. Driving from Usui-Karuizawa IC through Karuizawa and North Karuizawa, there was almost no snow. Just when I thought a snowy view might be impossible, the scenery suddenly changed! The area around the accommodation was covered in a snowy landscape. Although it was said to be much less than usual for this time of year, coming from a place without snow made it more than enough for me. It happened to be a weekend with milder temperatures, so stepping out onto the terrace was comfortable enough. The room we stayed in was Tsukine (Moon Sound). We chose it for its many windows and massage chair. Soaking in the Onsen, wearing a yukata while relaxing on the massage chair—it’s pure bliss! Having meals served in-room is also very convenient and relaxing. This is an accommodation I'd love to visit again during another season!

    It was excellent.

    We chose Lapin for my husband's birthday celebration because of its high ratings on IKYU. It truly lived up to the reviews and exceeded our expectations in every way. The dishes were meticulously prepared, and we could feel the chef's passion in each one. Both the bath and the stone sauna were impeccably clean, making us want to use them repeatedly. The staff were incredibly kind, leaving us feeling deeply relaxed and completely satisfied. We are already planning to visit again. Thank you very much!

    The usual Room, the usual satisfaction

    Staying in the same Room every year feels just like returning home, offering a sense of relaxation. Additionally, the fact that the staff serving meals have remained consistent over the past few years is one of the reasons for such a comfortable stay. Although my wife is not particularly fond of sea urchin, she was delighted with the sea urchin on top of the pumpkin mousse served at dinner—it had no unpleasant smell and was enjoyable for her. The fish-focused menu paired perfectly with the champagne we brought along. The signature cabbage steak seemed slightly smaller for two people this time (laughs), but it’s always delicious no matter when we have it. We look forward to staying here again without any changes!

    I had the most relaxing experience.

    A seven-room accommodation. The rooms are divided into a dining area (where both dinner and breakfast are served), a bedroom, and a lovely bathroom (in addition, there are four private baths available). Shared facilities include private baths, a lounge with coffee and plenty of books, and a room with two massage chairs. The lounge initially felt small upon entering but has a corner overlooking the garden, making it very quiet and relaxing. As for the meals, many have already written about them in reviews, so I won't go into detail here; however, I found them to be highly satisfying. I never realized how relaxing it could be to dine without being seen by others. I briefly worried that the food might get cold while being brought over—absolutely not! The soup was so hot that I almost burned myself. This accommodation is highly recommended for those who want to relax completely (though transportation is not very convenient unless you have a car; we were able to stay thanks to the shuttle service). However, it may not be suitable for: - Those expecting brand-new facilities or equipment. - Those looking for overly luxurious hospitality (the hospitality here is warm and kind). We hope to visit again someday—to try out the two private baths we missed this time and ask about the purpose of the grand piano and double bass casually placed in the hallway! Thank you to ?-san who saw us off until our car was out of sight!

    A wonderful accommodation where you can relax in a private space.

    As soon as the car arrived, the staff from the accommodation greeted us and carried our luggage. The approach to the hotel immediately lifted our spirits. The retro interior design and decorations in the lobby were very charming. The room included a living area, a spacious onsen bath, and a dining area, each equipped with its own TV. The in-room meals for both breakfast and dinner were absolutely delicious, visually appealing, and offered a variety of dishes that left us completely satisfied. The four private baths each had their own unique ambiance, and it was delightful to find towels and amenities provided there. Beyond the guest rooms and private baths, there were plenty of relaxing spaces such as a lounge where you could enjoy coffee or rooms with massage chairs where you could unwind while listening to music and admiring views of the forest—truly remarkable features. Throughout our stay, we felt an unparalleled sense of privacy that allowed us to relax quietly at this one-of-a-kind hotel. Upon departure, they waved until our car was out of sight—a testament to their exceptional hospitality and thoughtfulness. We would love to visit this accommodation again for another unforgettable experience!

    Accommodation to Visit in Every Season

    We were lucky to stay at the highly popular Accommodation Lapin. Despite the consecutive scorching hot days, Baragi Plateau offered strong sunlight but also a pleasant breeze. The entrance featured a moss-covered garden with maple trees, making us want to visit again in autumn. The interior was spacious and elegantly built, with numerous onsen baths flowing directly from the source—one night was not enough to enjoy it all. Dinner was French cuisine, and our room staff provided detailed explanations, making it both delicious and enjoyable. The stone sauna was also excellent. My husband mentioned being impressed by the smoking room's comfortable sofa and the sound of nightingales singing. Breakfast included both Japanese and Western options with an abundant variety—luxurious and delicious! Surprisingly, even the Western breakfast came with egg-topped rice. We thoroughly enjoyed the seasonal garden, meals, and onsen experience. Upon returning home to find record-high temperatures nationwide, we truly appreciated our refreshing getaway. Thank you!

    Even after a long time away,

    Stayed here for the first time since before the pandemic. While the facility shows some age, the compact and well-organized room was as comfortable as ever. Having dining options right next door allowed for a relaxing experience without worrying about other guests. The bathroom in the room was sufficient, and I even forgot to use the private bath. Next time, I’d like to stay in a room I haven’t tried yet.

    Lively Grandma's Journey

    I previously stayed here with my daughter and had such a great experience that I decided to use this accommodation for a trip with my classmates. The friends I invited were also very satisfied, thoroughly enjoying the bath and the meals to the fullest. Especially the meals—both breakfast and dinner—were so impressive, unique, and delicious that they kept praising them, which even boosted my reputation for choosing this place. We felt time flowed leisurely, and they seemed to really like the overall atmosphere of the hotel as well. However, unlike last time, I found it difficult to sleep because the pillow was too high. If two pillows are provided, perhaps one could be lower for better comfort. For this reason, I have given one less star in my rating. Nonetheless, we had an incredibly enjoyable time here.     It was a truly memorable stay!

    I’d been curious about this Hotel for a long time, but it was hard to get a weekend Reservation through IKYU, so I stayed just after the Golden Week holidays in May during the off-season. The exterior felt like it had some age to it, but the guest Room came with a private Onsen and was very clean. Above all, the food was outstanding—an excellent blend of Japanese and French cuisine—and the cabbage steak was unforgettable! We also had a private dining room for our Room, and the staff member’s conversation was incredibly entertaining and became a great memory. There were four private baths as well, which I really appreciated as someone who loves private baths—I could use them whenever I wanted. If I had to mention one thing, I noticed a bit of corrosion around the shower area in one of the private baths. Now I understand why so many guests return. I’d love to visit again someday.

    I had a fun and comfortable stay.

    I had a relaxing time.

    We had a relaxing holiday as a family. The room layout was convenient, allowing us to stay stress-free. It was also great that the dining area was separate from the room. Additionally, the cleanliness of the accommodation, the temperature of the onsen, and the quantity, seasoning, and presentation of the meals were all excellent.

    Wonderful Hotel. I will become a repeat guest.

    I was lucky to find a room with a stone sauna available, so I made the Reservation. This Hotel had caught my attention for some time, and I was fortunate to secure my desired Room on a day off. On my way to Nagano, I stayed for one night. The Room was well-designed, and both dinner and breakfast were served in the dining area of the Room. As it was near the entrance, everything was prepared while we relaxed in another space. The food was excellent, and my wife thoroughly enjoyed it as well. Of course, we fully enjoyed sweating in the stone sauna before immediately jumping into the adjacent bath to indulge in the Onsen experience. I would love to visit again during another season!
