    It’s wonderful as always.

    Glad we stayed here.

    This was our first time staying in Sengokuhara. The interior of the building felt darker than we expected. It felt very private, and we did not encounter any other guests at all during our stay. The meals were just the right amount for us and were very delicious. Above all, the in-Room Onsen was wonderful, and we enjoyed it many times. Having steps installed inside the bathtub made it very easy to use for someone with mobility issues. Overall, it was a very satisfying stay. Thank you for all your thoughtful care and attention. We will look forward to staying again and will get through our daily life with that in mind.

    It was very good.

    Full of privacy and exclusivity

    The staff are exceptionally professional. Not a single mistake from anyone. I’d love to know how you maintain such a high standard among your team. The milky hot spring bath was also outstanding. The food quality was excellent as well. That said, as someone with a big appetite, I would have liked a bit more in terms of portion size. I understand the menu changes every two months, so I’d love to visit again.

    We had a very relaxing stay—an Accommodation that deserves top marks.

    From the moment you arrive, it’s full of anticipation, and I also think the shoes-off entry is a wonderful touch. Inside, bamboo is everywhere—wherever you look, it’s bamboo, bamboo, bamboo. I was truly impressed by the commitment to the concept and how beautifully it’s expressed. The walls are also finished with plaster (with some areas covered in washi paper), which I thought was excellent. The bath has an outstanding atmosphere as well—an Accommodation that Onsen lovers simply can’t resist. Both dinner and breakfast featured thoughtfully crafted menus, and I was moved by the chef’s meticulous work. Especially—the braised beef tendon at breakfast was unforgettable. It was incredibly delicious. Even at dinner, choices like not serving beef too casually made it clear how much thought the chef puts into the menu. The portions were more than sufficient too. The only thing—for someone with presbyopia—it felt a bit dark (tears). If the dining area were a little brighter, dishes like sashimi would look even more beautiful; that was my only disappointment. My companion doesn’t have presbyopia either, but still murmured that it felt dark as well. Still, the overall quality of this Accommodation more than makes up for it—I’d definitely like to visit again. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

    Dream Accommodation

    A few years ago, I stayed at Kinnotake in Tounosawa, and I had been wanting to stay in Sengokuhara next—so I was finally able to do so. I was surprised that the Room was two stories. The weather on the day we stayed was so terrible it even made the news, so the open-air bath was cold, but that also became a good memory. The meals were very delicious, and we were completely full. I would like to stay again if I have another chance.

    Relaxing Accommodation

    As a Diamond member, we were welcomed with champagne. The in-Room drinks were well stocked, and we were also happy to enjoy them during meals. The amenities felt carefully selected for their quality, and the dining was top-tier. Perhaps due to my age, I found the beef quite fatty, but the pacing of each course was perfectly timed. However, the Room was too dark, making it hard to find things, and I couldn’t even do my makeup without using the light from the drink stock area.

    I truly enjoyed the comfort and privacy of the private room.

    This was my first trip to Hakone, and I stayed here. The building had a sense{ of history, but it was well cleaned and comfortable. The in-Room Onsen was especially impressive and helped me unwind from daily疲れ. There were also many different dishes, which I really enjoyed. Overall, I had a very comfortable trip.

    I feel my satisfacti...

    I feel my satisfaction has dropped considerably compared to my previous stay. Since there is no large public bath and no dining area, it would be fine if the Room and in-room bath were satisfying, but perhaps due to the age of the Accommodation, the Room and Facility have started to show wear. Considering the price, it felt somewhat lacking in value. The food is tasty, but somehow it didn’t feel satisfying, and I felt it was inferior to other Accommodations in the same price range. With inbound demand recently increasing, have prices been raised beyond what the content justifies?

    The room was too dark. While there are many places with dim lighting, there is a limit. The meals were quite disappointing. Having three dishes of sea bream for dinner was overwhelming and repetitive. Additionally, the tuna sashimi was so dark that it was shocking, something you wouldn't even see at a supermarket. I had high expectations based on other reviews, which made the disappointment even greater.

    I chose this accommodation for the night before unveiling my new car delivered via Turnpike! I had heard of the name of this accommodation before. Most of the room is designed around an onsen indoor bath, making it irresistible for hot spring lovers! The meal quality is high and satisfying. However, I wish there was an option to choose plain white rice with the meals.

    Exceptional hospitality!

    We have been staying at Kinnotake Tonosawa almost every year, but this time we looked for a place closer to Gotemba due to some errands and chose another Kinnotake property, trusting it would be just as excellent. Meals were served in the Room, and everything was delicious. The highlight was the salmon rice cooked in a clay pot during dinner—it was exceptional! My husband, who initially said he couldn't finish it all, ended up eating every single grain of rice from the pot. The male staff member who attended us during this time had a great sense of humor and provided outstanding service, making our experience truly enjoyable. Even my daughter, who usually skips breakfast, loved the plain white rice so much that she finished her portion quickly and even asked us to cook rice in a clay pot at home! There must be some special technique or skill involved in achieving such perfection. However, we couldn’t finish all the rice and felt it was such a waste—we joked about wanting to take it home as onigiri! All other staff members we interacted with were also kind and attentive. We are very glad we chose to stay here. Since everything is completed within your Room without encountering other guests, this is truly an ideal hidden retreat!

    A candid and critical review...

    We stayed at the accommodation to celebrate our couple's 60th birthday. Thank you very much. The staff who took care of our room were very warm and wonderful! Also, the meals were very delicious. The portions might be on the smaller side, but they were just right for us. However, there were a few disappointing points during this special trip: 1. The room was dimly lit with only indirect lighting, and there was only a firm sofa available, making it not a relaxing space to unwind in. While I understand that I may not have fully grasped the concept of the accommodation, I wished for a more comfortable atmosphere to spend my time in. 2. The amenities were truly disappointing. While they had most items available, they did not seem like those provided by a high-end ryokan. In particular, the lotion was terrible—it didn’t moisturize at all no matter how many times I applied it to my face (T_T). It felt like just water! Despite being at an onsen facility, I could only wash my face once out of fear and deeply regretted not bringing my own products. 3. There was no place to put wet towels after use. We couldn’t leave them on the floor and ended up hanging them on hangers or placing them next to the sink—this caused quite some trouble for us as they weren’t collected promptly either. While it is indeed a lovely accommodation overall, we do not feel inclined to stay here again given its price point compared with other accommodations that are both more affordable and equally charming elsewhere. Apologies if this feedback comes across as harsh!

    The meals were made ...

    The meals were made with rare ingredients, featuring delicious broth and gentle flavors. The Onsen had soothing water as well. On the second day of our Multiple Night Stay, we stayed in and relaxed. Thank you for providing us with such an enjoyable time.

    For Anniversary Celebrations

    Room dining and natural Onsen in the room were excellent. We stayed for one night and two days, enjoying the bath five times. The first floor and basement are private spaces, offering a great sense of privacy. When serving our meals, they noticed I was left-handed and thoughtfully arranged the chopsticks accordingly, which impressed me greatly. Both my wife and I were very satisfied with our stay. A couple of minor points: the lighting felt a bit dim as part of the ambiance, and we couldn't find a towel rack for used bath towels in the Onsen area. Overall, we would love to stay again if given another opportunity!

    The room was a maiso...

    The room was a maisonette type, which I wasn't aware of, so going up and down the stairs was a bit inconvenient. While I understood the concept, the room felt too dark overall for an older couple like us. The open-air bath had only one small spotlight, and since the steps were dimly lit, we used the flashlight provided in the room. It would have been nice to have a portable small lantern in the room. This might just be personal preference, but overall it seemed like an accommodation geared more towards younger guests. The meals were delicious both at night and in the morning, though portions might be slightly small for men. Since dinner was served in-room, the smell of grilled meat lingered until the next day. We visited on a rainy day, so we also noticed that the room felt damp overall. Once inside your room though, you don’t encounter other guests at all—making it ideal for those seeking privacy or a discreet stay.

    The Best Time

    We stayed here for our first wedding anniversary. Everything was perfect—the atmosphere of the Ryokan, the interior of the Room, dinner, breakfast, and the bath. We were extremely satisfied. Above all, the hospitality and service from the staff were outstanding and truly exceptional. Thank you for making our anniversary so special; it became a day we will cherish forever.     Time flows gently.

    We chose this accommodation to relax on our milestone wedding anniversary. From check-in to check-out, we never encountered other guests and enjoyed a peaceful time in our room. The onsen in the room had a milky white, fragrant hot spring water that was truly wonderful. In the evening, we soaked while listening to cicadas, and in the morning, we enjoyed the refreshing breeze as we bathed. The meals were carefully prepared with aromatic dashi and were delicious. The room was also well-stocked with drinks like alcohol and coffee. This time, we stayed in a first-floor room but look forward to trying another room next time. We would appreciate more non-smoking rooms being available; for this reason alone, I deducted one star from my rating.

    Thank you for your stay.

    I stayed in a maisonette-type room this time. The number of floors was more than I expected, which surprised me, but it was an interesting and new experience! The room showed some signs of age here and there, but I personally liked the atmosphere. The overall impression of the facility was a bit dark, and I got lost once when going outside (laughs). However, the Asian-inspired vibe was really nice. The meals were all delicious, though I felt the meat included in the plan was slightly disappointing. Perhaps ordering separately would have been better... Lastly, perhaps due to a smaller staff size, they seemed quite busy at times, which made me hesitate to ask for assistance casually (laughs). Overall, both the ambiance of the facility and room were great. The staff were friendly as well. I'd love to visit again to try staying in another type of room next time!     We had a very relaxing and luxurious time as a couple. The staff's hospitality was pleasant, and both the Room and the view from the Room allowed us to escape from our usual busy environment, making it truly refreshing for both mind and body.     I was satisfied.

    Golden Week is halfway through. I planned to relax alone after golf, but heavy rain canceled the game. I had no choice but to leave around noon and arrived after getting caught in traffic. Despite not notifying them, they kindly waited outside in the rain, which made me feel a bit guilty. I was guided to my Room and given an explanation of each Facility along with a warm welcome. The bath was spacious and relaxing, allowing me to enjoy it anytime as much as I wanted. Meals were served in the Room, ensuring complete privacy without encountering anyone else. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, especially the sakura shrimp and bamboo shoot rice—it was exceptional! I got so full that I couldn’t order Room service later as I had planned. However, grilling meat left a lingering smell in the dining area; I regretted not turning off the air conditioner beforehand. Keeping the bedroom door closed solved this issue. As for amenities, I wished there was mouthwash available, and some of the linens had a slight scent reminiscent of older men... though being one myself makes it less bothersome. Overall, I was very satisfied—thank you!

    The balance between price and service is poor.

    The onsen with natural hot spring water is spacious, has excellent water quality, and offers a great view. The bathroom also features floor heating, which was very appreciated as I dislike the cold. I failed to notice that only yukata were provided and regretted not bringing my own pajamas. The meals were not bad, but the portions seemed insufficient unless you are elderly. Since additional menu options are available, I recommend ordering extra dishes if needed. However, the quality of ingredients does not match the price point; if you expect high-quality food for this price range, you might be disappointed. This accommodation is not recommended for those who prioritize dining experiences. The staff member who greeted us seemed inexperienced—possibly a new hire this year—as they brought three umbrellas in light rain but handed one only to me while ignoring my husband and son and walked ahead without much consideration. When we tried to arrange a taxi the night before our departure, it was unavailable. It’s better to make such reservations immediately after check-in as there seems to be no vehicle owned by the accommodation or support for arranging taxis or hired cars if unavailable elsewhere. With Hakone currently crowded with international tourists, this accommodation appears to lack strategies aimed at repeat customers; therefore, we do not plan on returning in the future.

    It was a luxurious experience.

    Climbing the Hakone Ekiden route, I was amazed at how steep it was, and the place I arrived at was a truly wonderful accommodation. The quietness made it feel as if there were no other guests, with only the sound of water in the open-air bath. The staff were professional yet discreet, and the food was exceptionally delicious. Fresh fish and incredibly tender meat—everything was exquisite. I am very grateful for being able to spend such a relaxing time here. If I may point out one thing, it would be that the lighting is quite dim, especially in the restroom. The buttons were too dark to see clearly—I even had to use my phone's light to check them. If it felt dark for me, I imagine it could be dangerous for elderly guests due to steps or navigating in low light conditions in areas like restrooms.

    The best private Ryokan I have ever stayed at! The service was excellent, but above all, the staff member in charge was wonderful from start to finish, making it a very pleasant stay!
