    Stunning views and a comfortable stay…

    While looking for an Accommodation to escape the summer heat, I was able to make a Reservation here thanks to the great reviews. The Room was “Shobu”—beautifully furnished, spotless, and enhanced by elegant ikebana. It was a wonderful space. At check-in, the staff kindly explained everything in detail and even accommodated our circumstances, which we truly appreciated. The baths include a free private Onsen and a paid private hydrogen bath. Both are excellent and well worth trying—the hydrogen bath offers a picture-perfect mountain-and-water view, and the Onsen is spacious for a private bath and wonderfully relaxing. This time, since we might have arrived late for check-in, we reluctantly chose not to have dinner and requested breakfast only. The breakfast was delicious, well-balanced, and very satisfying. Not only was each dish tasty, but even the tea and coffee, dashi broth, rice—every detail—was something we could fully enjoy. We would love to stay again when visiting the Mt. Tanigawa area.

    It was a wonderful A...

    It was a wonderful Accommodation, just as the Reviews said. The food, the interior throughout the property, and the furnishings in the guest rooms were all tastefully chosen, and since there were only six groups of guests, we were able to relax even though it was peak season. The staff’s service was also excellent. It was an Accommodation that made us want to come back again after a long time.

    Nestled at the foot of Mt. Tanigawa, this was a truly warm and memorable Accommodation. Because it is family-run, thoughtful touches could be felt everywhere; from the moment we arrived, it somehow felt nostalgic, and we immediately relaxed into a natural sense of comfort. The interior is calm rather than flashy, and you can tell it is carefully maintained. What impressed us most was the food. It had a great reputation in Reviews, but it exceeded our expectations. Seasonal local ingredients are used generously, and each dish is prepared with great care. Nothing is showy, yet the quality of the ingredients shines through—enhanced by professional skill and subtle creativity—and it made us realize that this kind of cooking is true luxury. Every dish felt heartfelt; simple yet deeply flavorful, turning mealtime itself into one of the highlights of our trip. The owner’s shakuhachi performance was also wonderful, making our stay feel like something more than just an overnight visit. Combined with Mt. Tanigawa’s nature and the quiet atmosphere, it brought a sense of calm and balance to the mind, reminding us once again of Japan’s unique beauty and charm. Rather than for those seeking glamour or extravagance, this Accommodation is highly recommended for anyone looking for genuinely comfortable time away, human warmth, and a stay that lets you feel the character of the area. It was such a lovely place that we would gladly return in another season.

    The Ideal Form of an Accommodation

    The charm of Tanigawa lies in the rugged yet beautiful Mt. Tanigawa, the Tone River that reflects its character, and the soothing hot water that seems to wrap you in warmth. I visited for the first time two years ago and was completely won over. Tanigawa Onsen is a small Onsen area, and every Accommodation seems to have an excellent reputation. Among them, this Accommodation, Kansan, was especially to my taste. Both the thoughtfully prepared meals and the baths are highly satisfying. The view from the hydrogen bath—framed with Mt. Tanigawa at its center—is truly spectacular. What elevates these attractions even further is the hospitality of the staff. You can tell they are dedicated to doing everything they can—and should—as a small Accommodation. So far, I have never had a bad stay at any Accommodation in Tanigawa Onsen, so I’d like to try them all, but I definitely want to return here again. By the way, Tenichi Museum of Art in this Onsen area is well worth a visit. Also, for railway fans, the famous Doai Station is about 15 minutes away by car; those with strong legs will enjoy it too.

    The food is simply delicious.

    We stayed for two nights to celebrate my wife’s birthday. From the moment we arrived, we felt relaxed by the scent of incense and the view of Mt. Tanigawa. The dinner on the first night was far better than expected and won us over, but the second night’s meal was even more delicious and truly surprised us. There are three baths, and the best part is that all of them can be reserved for private use. We were able to relax together at our own pace. Next time, if possible, I’d like to bring my parents as well.

    The best accommodation I stayed at this year

    I stayed for one night at the accommodation. Due to a sudden change of plans, I had to take the train and called on the day to request a pick-up. Thank you for kindly accommodating my request without any hesitation. Check-in was quick, and I was able to reserve the hydrogen water bath first and enjoy it. The view of snow-covered Mount Tanigawa from the window and the wonderful bath were truly satisfying. By opening the glass window, it felt like an open-air bath, and since it was private, I could relax fully in peace. Dinner had just the right variety and portions; I thoroughly enjoyed specialties like soft-shell crab karaage and Joshu beef steak. The shakuhachi performance after dinner was also amazing—it made me feel grateful to be born Japanese (laughs). There are two private Onsen baths available in addition to regular ones, but they were never crowded as one of them was always free when we wanted to use it—likely because there are only a few rooms here. Last night seemed to have been hit by a severe cold wave with heavy snowfall; please take care of yourselves, staff members! I would love to visit again soon!

    Second stay. Everything was perfect again!

    Second stay. Unfortunately, it was a bit early for the autumn leaves, which was slightly disappointing. However, the meals this time were also excellent—completely satisfying. As soon as you step into the accommodation, you're greeted by a soothing aroma that instantly relaxes you. First, prepare your skin with the high-concentration hydrogen bath (the water feels truly amazing) to get ready for the meal (laughs). Every dish is not only delicious but also visually stunning. After being fully satisfied with the meal, the beautiful sound of the shakuhachi flute gently lulls you to sleep. The staff's service strikes a perfect balance—not too intrusive yet attentive when needed. They don't say unnecessary things but provide precise answers to any questions about dishes or other matters—this is fantastic! A mop has been placed in the changing room for quick cleaning—thank you very much for this thoughtful addition. I’m planning my next visit during cherry blossom season!

    The meals and onsen ...

    The meals and onsen were fantastic. The plan included breakfast and dinner, with highlights such as deep-fried whole crab, salt-grilled char fish, and chawanmushi with blue cheese for dinner. Breakfast was also luxurious with a wide variety of side dishes, allowing me to enjoy 2.5 bowls of rice. After dinner, there was a shakuhachi performance, making it an indulgent experience. The onsen offered breathtaking views from the hydrogen water bath. I chose the morning time slot and was lucky to witness a rainbow stretching over Mount Tanigawa as the rain cleared—a truly moving sight. The hospitality of the accommodation staff was exceptional, and I would love to visit again.

    The meals are delicious.

    This was our first stay here, as it was my husband's (birthday) wish. Thank you for the hydrogen bath as a birthday celebration gift. Thanks to that, my husband enjoyed it both in the morning and evening. The meals and coffee were truly delicious, so much so that we ended up eating more than we should have. After enjoying the delicious dinner, we went to bed with high expectations for breakfast the next day (the bed was very comfortable, and we slept soundly). The breakfast exceeded our expectations and was incredibly tasty—having such delicious meals at an accommodation is truly delightful. We were also a bit worried about whether the private bath would be crowded, but we were able to enjoy it at a relaxed pace. Thank you very much for your hospitality!

    Delicious Meals!!

    It was a chilly day with unfortunate rain during check-in, but I was touched by the thoughtful gesture of warming up the room. The entire accommodation was impeccably clean and filled with a pleasant aroma of incense. The hydrogen bath warmed me to the core. The much-anticipated meal was truly delicious, making for a blissful moment. The soft-shell crab was freshly fried and crispy, while the meat's doneness was perfect! Its generous portion initially seemed overwhelming but turned out to be just right in the end. Breakfast included fluffy grilled salmon and vegetable-packed quiche among other dishes—another satisfying meal completed! Additionally, experiencing the sound of shakuhachi for the first time in my life left me deeply moved. I hope to visit again in autumn to see your garden’s autumn leaves. Lastly, one request: it would be helpful if there were lint rollers available in the bathroom changing area or rooms to pick up stray hairs easily.

    The kind hospitality made it a wonderful trip.

    Cherry blossoms in full bloom... Enjoyed hanami.

    Delicious meals and warm hospitality remain consistent no matter when you visit. This time, the morning view from the hydrogen bath of the blue sky, snow-covered Mount Tanigawa, fresh green leaves, and cherry blossoms in full bloom made for a perfect stay. Thank you!     The meals are the best at this Stays.

    The Stays itself had a homely feel, like a Japanese-style pension. The building is old, but it is well-maintained and very clean. The highlight is the food. Although it is Japanese cuisine, it is creative and does not strictly adhere to traditional Japanese, incorporating Italian tastes, making it visually enjoyable. The portions were very generous and extremely satisfying. The breakfast was not a careless assortment of items just to increase the number of dishes; each item was carefully prepared, and everything, including the white rice and pickles, was delicious. I was impressed by the thoughtfulness of the final breakfast coffee and the palate-cleansing raw chocolate ice cream. The chef has not trained at any particularly famous restaurant, but I would have loved to greet them.

    As per the review, the meals, hydrogen bath, onsen, and service were all wonderful. However, it was unfortunate that there was no chair in the room as I have a bad back. I suppose it's because it was a Japanese-style room. All the meals were delicious, but my wife was particularly impressed by the rare specialty of whole fried blue crab. The live shakuhachi performance during dinner was also a first for us and was very enjoyable. We look forward to visiting again, thank you.

    The view from the bath is amazing!

    The magnificent view from the hydrogen bath was superb. Since it was a private bath, I could relax. Although it is a small Stays, the food was delicious and the atmosphere was pleasant with performances such as shakuhachi.

    Ah, happiness!

    The more you visit, the more it becomes a large, warm, and homely Stays. I look forward to the day when I can come with my children and grandchildren (when the youngest grandchild grows a little older) and dream of visiting again. Please, all the staff, stay well.
