    It was excellent.

    After much searching, we decided on Matsuyachisen for this trip. Since it was a one-night stay, we were looking forward to the Onsen and meals. Both were excellent!! The large public bath and the private open-air bath in the room were incredibly satisfying. My skin felt so smooth. The meals were all delicious, and we left completely full. We are already thinking about visiting again in a different season. Thank you very much!

    I want to visit again.

    This was our first stay at an Awara Onsen accommodation with my daughter, who recently started her career. As travel enthusiasts, we were very satisfied with this experience. From the phone call to request a shuttle bus from the station, the staff's response was pleasant. At check-in, we were warmly welcomed and told to take our time, which led us to stay until just before check-out time. We are grateful for the room upgrade as well. The onsen was clean and comfortable. Dinner was luxurious, and we thoroughly enjoyed ordering a sake tasting set—absolutely satisfying! The next morning, we relaxed in the onsen again and ended up requesting a change in our breakfast time. Breakfast was a Japanese-style meal that was so delicious we asked for extra rice. All of the staff provided excellent service throughout our stay. We were also sent off with great care upon departure and left for the station thinking about how much we'd like to return here again. While there are many accommodations in Awara Onsen, we're certain we'll choose this one again in the future!

    Everything was excel...

    Everything was excellent. Hospitality, staff training, cuisine, and the head chef's meticulous attention to detail—everything was perfect. It was a Ryokan I would definitely love to visit again. If you visit Awara City, we highly recommend staying at "Matsuya Sensen." We left feeling absolutely wonderful. Thank you very much!

    It was a relaxing experience.

    This was my third visit. The male staff member provided attentive service, allowing me to have a comfortable stay. While many accommodations now offer buffet-style breakfasts, I appreciated having a traditional Japanese breakfast served in a private room, just like dinner. There was one thing that concerned me. For dinner, the abalone teppanyaki was pre-cooked this time due to the table being too small, which was disappointing. Additionally, vegetables were placed on top of the abalone—the main dish—making the presentation less appealing. I would have preferred it to be prepared at the table as before. Despite this minor issue, the meals were delicious and I enjoyed multiple visits to the onsen for relaxation. I look forward to visiting again!

    Satisfaction

    It was my first time visiting Awara Onsen, and I found it very comfortable and enjoyable. The bath in the room is a circulation type, but it maintained a perfect temperature throughout my stay, and the sound of the water was soothing. However, the smell of disinfectant felt slightly strong. The large public bath was very spacious and clean, so even if it got crowded, it didn’t bother me at all. The powder space had partitions, allowing for a stress-free experience. The morning market was surprisingly compact; I initially thought I’d just take a quick look and return to my room. However, the vendors were great at recommending items with just the right level of engagement, so I ended up buying quite a bit! Everything they recommended was absolutely delicious—I couldn’t be happier with my purchases. Thanks to them, I also got to experience Fukui’s local dialect firsthand, which made me truly glad that I came here. As for meals, the seasoning matched my taste perfectly—everything was delicious! That said, the meat felt tough... but that might just be personal preference. Both breakfast and dinner were genuinely delightful! This is such a wonderful Ryokan that I'd love to visit again in another season!

    I felt relaxed.

    The staff's service was excellent. Although there were many trainees and there were moments of slight language barriers, it was understandable given the busy Golden Week period. The trainees' earnest and dedicated efforts were evident, leaving no negative impression. Thank you very much.

    I visited Fukui Pref...

    I visited Fukui Prefecture after a long time and chose Matsuyama Sensen from the images of Onsen and cuisine. The room was clean. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. The grilled abalone was particularly tasty. I thought the Onsen could have been a bit more innovative. Conversations with the Ryokan staff were enjoyable as well. Thank you very much!

    It was a beautiful a...

    It was a beautiful accommodation. This time, we stayed in a room with an open-air bath, allowing us to enjoy the onsen multiple times without any hesitation. The staff were all friendly and provided excellent service with warm smiles. Every meal was absolutely delicious. There was a service to make onsen eggs, but unfortunately, we missed it as we relaxed too much in the room past the end time. This is definitely an accommodation we will revisit!

    Absolutely wonderful!

    The room was a slightly more expensive one with an open-air bath, but the service, facilities, meals, and bath were all perfect. It was an excellent accommodation. I would love to stay again.

    We were treated exceptionally well.

    The room, meals, and Onsen were all wonderful. However, it would be great to have a phone or bell available during breakfast to contact staff if needed.

    The bath is excellent.

    The meals were delicious, especially the Koshihikari rice from Fukui. The bath was so spacious it felt like you could swim in it, which was very satisfying. The Room had been renovated and I slept well, but the toilet seemed to be left as is—narrow and old—which was a bit disappointing.

    The best hospitality, the best cuisine, and the best Onsen!

    Recommended by a colleague last year, I stayed and it was so amazing that I couldn't forget it, so I used it again this year. The large public bath is quite spacious and has plenty of amenities. As for the meals, both dinner and breakfast are excellent. The portions are large, so you will be full, but you will want to eat again soon. The hospitality is simply the best. I was warmly and courteously attended to. I definitely want to stay again in the future.

    I was able to rest well.

    We used the property for a family trip. It is a good Stays as per the review. The room seemed to have been upgraded, it was clean and spacious. I thought the customer service and service were good from check-in to check-out. I was almost satisfied with the meals. Since it's not a buffet, you can relax and enjoy it at your own pace. The bath was very good. It was spacious and had a sense of openness.

    The Room and meals were very good. The staff's response was also good, and there was someone with a strong fabric softener fragrance during the meal, but they changed our seats, which was very helpful.

    Is there a Stays costing more than 50,000 yen per person that doesn't have Wi-Fi these days?

    Over 25 years ago, we visited with my wife and three babies for 8,800 yen per person, and we went with gratitude for the kindness of the proprietress at that time. The reservation is 54,340 yen per person x 2 & 44,000 yen for Echizen crab. We were warmly welcomed with smiles and courtesy by everyone from the entrance. We were guided by the room attendant to the "Sensenkan Tokiwasure Hanareza Rotenburo with Japanese Bed - Tanoshimi." However, the Wifi did not connect, and despite repeatedly informing the front desk and room attendant, it was not improved. In the end, we were told, "It happens often, and it doesn't connect when you go further into the dining area," and "There is a paid router at the front desk, so we will contact you," but there was no contact. The stress of not being able to connect to Wifi is immeasurable. The unforgettable Aoi no Taki is still magnificent and pleasant, and while looking at it, the bath was far superior and cleaner than at Seifuso, bringing back memories and healing both body and mind. However, when returning to the room, the Wifi still did not connect. The stress of not being able to watch Saturday's sports live was immense. Now for dinner. "Live Abalone Dancing Grilled Kaiseki" + "Echizen Crab 44,000 Fukuryomaru," a cold assortment of seasonal vegetables, ordinary sashimi from the Sea of Japan, watery pork kakuni with miso grilled on a magnolia leaf, salty nodoguro salt-grilled, unpleasant liver abalone dancing grilled, chewy sweet and salty tsukudani-flavored shellfish strings, inedible shell-on scallops with vinegar miso, fairly delicious Wakasa beef fillet steak, the main attraction Echizen crab was small and weak, overcooked? The crab miso was unpleasant, and the meat was thin and salty with poor shell separation. Seifuso was cheaper, larger, with crab roe-filled eggs, thick and sweet meat, and the crab miso was exquisite. The special kaiseki was of a quality that I hardly wanted to touch. The head chef said he would come to greet us, but did he escape somewhere? Even the room attendant was puzzled. Has the good memory of "Matsuya Sensen" deteriorated over the years into a disappointing property?

    I was able to spend a relaxing time.

    The staff's hospitality made my stay very comfortable... The food was also very delicious, and the large public bath was very clean and beautiful. It's a place I would like to visit again.

    I was looking forward to it, but...

    I read a review about the delicious food, but it was not quite as expected. Breakfast consisted of dishes high in salt (such as tsukudani and pickles), and when the rice for dinner was served, the only side dishes were miso soup and pickles. I think it would be better if there were at least bottled water provided in the room.

    It was a pleasant moment.

    Both dinner and breakfast were satisfying. The Room was set to be a bit small, but it was spacious enough. The partition in the bathroom's washing area was large, so even if someone was shampooing next door, it didn't splash over, which was nice.

    Enjoyable for all ages

    From a 4-year-old grandchild to a 60-year-old, everyone enjoyed the experience. We were impressed by the meals and the large public bath. Our two grandchildren visited the large public bath three times during our one-night stay. My daughter was delighted with the spa and massage services. We would love to visit again soon.

    It was great~

    Although it is a bit far from Yunomachi Station, there is a shuttle service from Awara Onsen Station (via Yunomachi Station), which is reassuring. There were many enjoyable activities during our stay, such as making hot spring eggs and complimentary coffee in the lounge.

    It is a large hotel.

    The hotel had many rooms and several group tours were staying there. Both the karaoke room and the lobby were crowded with groups. It wasn't the kind of atmosphere for an elderly couple like us to relax and unwind, but families with children might find it comfortable and easygoing. The dinner had a wide variety of dishes and was delicious. However, overall, the food was quite salty, and since my kidneys aren't in the best condition, I had to leave some of the soup to adjust. In the morning, the dried flatfish was too salty for me to eat. The hotel staff were all calm and courteous in their service. I used the large public bath three times, and I was impressed by how they constantly kept an eye on the usage of amenities and towels.

    Meals

    We stayed with three generations. The quantity and quality of the meals were impeccable. The seasoning was mild, enhancing the natural flavors of the ingredients, which I believe was also good for health.
