    We had a relaxing and satisfying stay.

    I was truly happy to be warmly welcomed from the very beginning, with courteous guidance in the parking lot upon arrival. The sunrise viewed from our Room and the panoramic ocean view from the rooftop open-air bath were absolutely breathtaking and deeply relaxing. Both the dinner and breakfast buffets were delicious, and all staff provided attentive service with a pleasantly friendly approach that felt very comfortable. Taking a glass-bottom boat across to use another Onsen Facility within the same group was also a fun experience that added a nice sense of travel. Personally, I prefer the calm atmosphere of a Hotel of this size, so I was able to spend my stay very comfortably. One small thing: it was slightly inconvenient that there wasn’t a laundry bag in the Room, but otherwise I was very satisfied. Thanks to the beautiful scenery, Onsen, delicious meals, and warm hospitality from everyone on staff, it became a wonderful trip where I could truly unwind at ease.

    Cuisine

    We have been staying at Shimahana since the year before last, and this was our 8th visit. We are always impressed by the chef’s course meals. We are also impressed by the seasonal hors d’oeuvres each time. And even after check-out, we are touched by the staff’s thoughtful care as they see us off to our car. Thank you always.

    We were very satisfied with the meals and Onsen hopping! That’s why we hope to see improvements in cleaning and some aspects of customer service.

    We made a same-day plan and Reservation and stayed with our dog. Overall, it was a very enjoyable trip that made us want to come back, so I’m writing this Review honestly, including a few areas I hope can be improved. What we liked: Meals: Dinner was exceptionally delicious—we were truly impressed. The breakfast buffet was also very satisfying. Onsen hopping: The system of traveling by boat or bus to affiliated Onsen was fun and a wonderful experience. The senior staff members who guided us were warm and welcoming, which made us feel very comfortable. Room environment: Although it was a dog-friendly Room, we did not notice any typical pet odors. What we’d like improved: Cleaning: Dirt in hidden areas stood out. Our dog’s toy rolled under the bed, and when we moved it to retrieve it, we were surprised by what looked like spilled residue and a lot of dust. The futon inside the folded-back sheets had many stains, which honestly felt unsettling. The in-room bath had a strong musty mold smell. The air conditioner in the large public bath area was covered in dust; when using the hair dryer underneath it, dust seemed to fall from above. It was quite shocking. We would appreciate more thorough cleaning. Hospitality / service: Upon arrival, even though we had heavy luggage, there was no mention of luggage carts or any offer of assistance. At dinner, the pace of clearing plates felt too fast. A glass that still had alcohol in it was about to be taken away without a word; when I said “I’m still drinking,” it was quickly pulled back—again without any response. A small bit of attentiveness would make a big difference, so this felt like a missed opportunity. Overall: Because this was our first trip in some time and there were many great aspects, it was disappointing that cleaning and parts of the service fell short. I think this is an Accommodation with great potential, and I hope to see improvements going forward.

    No matter when I stay, I’m always satisfied.

    This is our fourth stay, and everything—the staff, the meals, and the cleanliness of the Room—is outstanding. Whenever we come to Awaji, this is the only place we want to stay, so we will continue to choose this Accommodation. We have a dog, and they are very welcoming. It’s also a quiet environment where we can’t hear other dogs, so both our dog and we can relax with peace of mind. Having an on-site dog run is also a big help. The meals are exciting every time—carefully crafted course dishes that truly impress us. The staff are kind as well, and we always have a pleasant stay. We always say, “Let’s stay here again next time!” We’ll be back again.

    Drawn by the great Reviews, the reasonable price, and the chance to visit sister group Hotels across the water for a hot-spring tour—by boat—I stayed with the New Awaji Group for the first time. As expected of the New Awaji Group! I knew they had many fans, and after staying here, I completely understand why. Compared with other Accommodations, what stood out was the ample number of employees, well-trained staff, and thorough cleaning down to every detail. The meals were delicious as well—I was very satisfied. At departure, they even waved until my car was out of sight. I would love to visit again.

    I’m satisfied.

    This was my first time staying at Shimahana. The lobby has a soaring open ceiling, and the Hotel looked beautifully maintained, as if it had been renovated. From the Room, we enjoyed views of the sea and cruisers, which gave it a slightly overseas feel. For bathing, we were able to use the large public bath at Hotel New Awaji, and they provide Shuttle Service by boat to the opposite shore, so you can enjoy a mini-cruise experience. Shimahana’s own large public bath is small, and I wished it were more spacious, but since other baths are available as well, it wasn’t an issue for me. It’s also a big plus that they offer Shuttle Service by car early in the morning and late at night. Dinner was a course meal and everything was delicious—especially the sweet onion soup made with Awaji Island’s famous onions. The staff member who assisted us was from overseas, but spoke very fluent Japanese and was very pleasant. Breakfast was a buffet with many tasty options. Considering the reasonable price, we were extremely satisfied. I would love to stay again and would recommend it to anyone visiting Awaji Island. Thank you very much.

    Good overall, but the Wi‑Fi and similar amenities were disappointing.

    The Room was spacious and comfortable. The sofa allowed me to stretch out, and having the sink area, toilet, and bath in separate rooms was very convenient. The large public bath inside the building is small, and on rainy days rain can blow in, which is not ideal. However, the baths at New Awaji—reached via Shuttle Service by car or boat—were excellent. The in-room Wi-Fi uses an outdated WEP system with essentially no security and a high risk of data leakage, so this should be improved immediately. The lobby and restaurant on the first floor are open all the way up to the top floor atrium-style, which feels airy, but noise carries throughout the entire building—clattering knives and plates during dinner and breakfast, bells used to call staff, barking dogs while moving through hallways on each floor—so it is not recommended for guests who are sensitive to noise.

    A little more consideration, please.

    This was my second visit, and I stayed in the detached dog-friendly Room. It even had an open-air Onsen bath, and I couldn’t hear any dogs from either side at all—the Room was excellent. When I turned on the faucet at the sink, water splashed everywhere and soaked the vanity, and I almost tripped on the water barrier between the wash area and the shower room. The meals were varied and enjoyable, but the service still seemed to be in training: plates were set down with a thud, empty beer bottles and glasses weren’t cleared away, and when breakfast preparation started next to us in the morning, they forgot to serve dessert. There were quite a few things that concerned me.

    Completely satisfied with everything.

    We stayed again as a couple (with our dog) for the first time in two years. We heard it would start raining from the evening of our arrival day, so we came just after 1:00 p.m. hoping to let our dog play in the dog run. When we explained this at the front desk, they kindly said, “Of course,” and welcomed us right away. We let our dog play for over an hour and thought he must be tired, but before we knew it, it was time to check in. As always, everything was spotless down to every corner. All amenities were placed within easy reach, making for a comfortable start. He still wanted to play and kept staring at the dog run from the second-floor balcony, but raindrops began to fall, so they kindly took us by boat to New Awaji Main Building. We enjoyed a luxurious bath there, then took a wagon Shuttle Service back to Shimahana. Everywhere we went, all staff greeted us with warm smiles, and we were able to head into dinner feeling great as usual. The “Seasonal Delicacies Course” was an outstanding meal carefully prepared with seasonal ingredients—gentle enough for an older couple like us—and every dish left us feeling refreshed both physically and mentally. This is the number one reason we want to return again and again. The next morning we also enjoyed the breakfast buffet heartily (forgetting our age). As expected, everything was delicious. Because of yesterday’s rain our dog didn’t quite get enough exercise, but we left truly satisfied thanks to your wonderful hospitality. We hope to return again soon. Thank you very much for taking such good care of us.

    The welcoming staff made the biggest impression on us—they were wonderful!

    Overall Review A Hotel I Definitely Want to Stay at Again—Hotel Shimahana! What was wonderful The balcony railing and floor were impeccably clean The restroom was perfect If I had to say one thing, I would have appreciated a place to set my smartphone Awaji Group bath-hopping experience Boat Shuttle Service ReFa hair dryer in the Onsen bath and wash area (The Room had a standard hair dryer.) Clean bedding Around the closet area Nice, clean TV I had informed you in advance that I have a coffee allergy, so having tea prepared instead truly moved me. Complimentary bottled drinks in the refrigerator Hot water already boiled and ready to use right away What was disappointing The breakfast pancakes were delicious, but the maple syrup tasted so sour it seemed spoiled and was unpleasant. I think this should be changed urgently. The sink drainage seemed poor; even just rinsing my mouth caused water to pool. I think this needs improvement. There were only about 10 tissues left, so I’d like you to either place a full spare box before guests enter the Room or have housekeeping check and replace it. At the breakfast buffet, an older male staff member took a long time restocking and was extremely in the way, making it hard to serve myself. He also seemed unfriendly and difficult to speak to. At checkout, when I paid the Hot Spring Tax at the front desk, it was disappointing that the staff member did not make eye contact at all while assisting me.

    It was a very comfortable stay.

    Dinner was very delicious. The sashimi was extremely fresh and truly impressive. The cooking methods also felt refined. My friend who stayed with me was happy to have chosen this Hotel. Breakfast was great as well—the chirimen jako was tasty, and the vinegared octopus dish was so good that I ended up having seconds. We were taken by boat to enjoy the baths at another Hotel too. However, it was a bit disappointing that the Hotel bath on the 6th floor has only three washing stations, but the view from the bath was beautiful—especially being able to soak while watching the sunrise made me very happy. Thank you for a wonderful time.

    Unlimited Onsen Enjoyment

    I suddenly decided to visit Awaji Island and made a Reservation here the day before. Only this Room was available, so I couldn’t choose, but it turned out to be spacious and very comfortable. Breakfast was included, and the selection was so extensive that it was impossible to try everything. Everything tasted excellent as well. For the Onsen, we were provided with Shuttle Service by glass-bottom boat, and we were able to fully enjoy the Onsen both on arrival and again the next day. The view—where sea, sky, and Onsen seemed to merge into one—was breathtakingly beautiful. Although it was just one night and two days, it felt as fulfilling as a much longer stay. Every staff member was friendly, and we had a truly pleasant time. Thank you very much.

    I’d love to stay here again.

    Given the Accommodation fee, I didn’t expect much, but the food was delicious. From the appetizers to the steamed egg custard with turnip and even the dessert, everything was carefully prepared. If I had to say something, the portions were small, and perhaps because the ingredients arrived after the hot pot had already come to a boil, the Chinese cabbage in the hot pot was too tough, which was disappointing. The bath is very small and can accommodate up to three people at most, but we were able to use the bath at a nearby Hotel, which we appreciated. If I can stay again at this price, I’d like to return. However, since most places now have an air purifier in each Room, I would like one provided here as well.

    A mother-and-daughter trip

    The Room was spacious with a great view, and the amenities were excellent, so I was very satisfied. However, the outdoor unit noise echoed periodically and bothered me even in the middle of the night, and the pillow was low so I woke up many times... I should have told the front desk, but it happened after I had gone to bed and it felt like too much trouble. I was told that the Hot Spring Tax would be paid at check-out, and I received instructions to scan a QR code in advance to pay so that on the day I would only need to return the key. So I completed it ahead of time (card details required). But by 10:00 a.m. the front desk was crowded, and since some families were paying on-site anyway, we ended up waiting. There was only one staff member at the front desk, which looked very tough. It might be smoother if payment could be completed at check-in, and if there are no additional charges, guests could simply drop their key into a box. I was very satisfied with being able to use another Hotel’s Onsen as well, and the Shuttle Service ran smoothly. I had heard that Shimahana’s Onsen is small, but seeing the sunrise there was moving—no complaints at all about the Onsen.

    The meals were excellent.

    I took a sudden day off to stay one night for my husband’s birthday. On the first day, it was drizzling and we couldn’t do much sightseeing, so we arrived early around 2:00 p.m. Since check-in was at 4:00 p.m., we sat and waited in the lobby. We were told we could use the Onsen at a nearby group Hotel, but it required taking a glass boat or driving there, so we were worried about getting chilled afterward and decided to use the bath inside this Hotel instead. At 4:00 p.m., I went straight to the bath, but it was a bit small—there were no bubbling jets like you often find at an Onsen, I’m not fond of saunas even though there is one, and there was no information displayed about the spring quality. Still, it warmed me up more than expected. It was nice being able to soak while looking at the scenery outside. For dinner, I had written in advance about foods my husband can’t eat, and they even revised the menu accordingly, which was wonderful. The meat dishes were also very delicious! At night I went to the Hotel bath again. I planned to warm up and sleep well, but I couldn’t sleep deeply because of a periodic sound—maybe boats outside rubbing against the quay wall? The Room lighting was also quite dim and it was hard to read my book, so I asked for a lamp stand. Even though it’s a dry season, there was no humidifier or humidifying device in the Room; my throat became very dry and my eyes felt irritated as well. They may have had humidifiers if I had asked, but everyone seemed very busy so I hesitated to request one. The staff were young and seemed well trained overall, but somehow it didn’t feel very relaxing. Next time I’d like to choose another property in the group that has a larger Onsen facility within the building.

    The meals were very delicious, and I was able to relax and enjoy my stay. I would love to visit again. I didn't know that I could also visit the Onsen in the same group, so next time I plan to check in earlier. The spa treatment was also amazing.

    Beautiful Scenery and Delicious Meals

    This is my second stay. I came back because my previous experience was excellent. The bath on the top floor offers a stunning view of the ocean, and the water temperature is very comfortable. The meals use local ingredients and were absolutely delicious! I would love to stay here again and again.

    It was an excellent stay!!!

    The room, large public bath, and meals were all satisfying. All the staff were very kind and attentive, making for a truly wonderful stay! The large public bath on the top floor is compact but clean, with an amazing ocean view! The sauna was also great. Exploring baths at affiliated accommodations via glass boat was enjoyable as well. This is an accommodation I definitely want to visit again!!! Thank you so much. Special thanks to the shuttle service staff and drivers for their kindness!

    We enjoyed exploring the baths.

    This was my second stay at the accommodation. Last time, I found the large public bath a bit cold for me, so I used the large public bath at a group hotel instead. The experience of being taken to the nearby hotel by boat after arrival was exciting and enjoyable. The next morning, I was personally driven there by car, which made me feel very luxurious as I enjoyed different large public baths on both days. Each bathhouse had multiple baths inside, making it a delightful experience to explore them all. The dinnerware was stunningly beautiful and enhanced the delicious meal even more. Additionally, the smile of one of the foreign servers was truly wonderful. The room felt a bit dark—so much so that I couldn’t see the buttons on the kettle—so I requested an additional stand lamp. For this reason, my rating for the room is 4 stars. Thanks to this adjustment, I could relax comfortably and am very grateful!

    I stayed here for an anniversary and my boyfriend's birthday. First, the Room was spacious, very clean, and comfortable. The open-air bath was incredibly relaxing. The front desk staff provided excellent service, preparing a surprise cake and bringing it to our Room while even taking photos for us. At checkout, we received a letter with the photo attached—a truly wonderful surprise! I would definitely stay here again if I have another occasion. I regret not staying one more night... haha! The breakfast was delicious, and my partner was very happy as well. Thank you so much!

    Friendly Accommodation

    We stayed at the accommodation to celebrate my mother's 88th birthday. The staff prepared a celebratory drink and a traditional red vest for her, took a commemorative photo, and gave us the printed photo along with a handwritten message card at checkout. My mother was very pleased, and I felt glad we chose this hotel. Although the onsen within the hotel was somewhat small, we could easily access the onsen at an affiliated hotel via a ferry boat. This unique experience felt like an attraction in itself and added to our enjoyment. Even though we boarded at the last minute, the boatman provided courteous service, and all staff members greeted us with natural smiles that made us feel relaxed. The cost-performance was excellent, and I would love to stay at this accommodation again. Thank you very much!

    The Perfect Accommodation for Hot Spring Hopping

    A boat and bus for hot spring tours are available upon request, adding a special touch to your stay. Each bath is clean, includes an open-air option, and provides a relaxing experience. Additionally, the rest areas offer tea for a refreshing break. Among the hotels I have stayed at in recent years, this is one of the best, if not the best.

    I couldn't understand why it was rated so highly.

    I chose this accommodation because of its high review ratings. However, when I got off the elevator to my room floor, the air conditioning was not working at all, and it was extremely hot. This made me uneasy from the start. Upon entering the room, there was a step that made me unsure whether to keep my shoes on or take them off—some guidance would have been helpful. The closet lacked sufficient height to hang a long dress straight. Additionally, there was no fabric spray commonly found in most hotels. The shelf in the bathroom was dusty, which left me disappointed with this hotel overall. On a positive note, they offered car service for visiting different onsen locations whenever needed; I appreciated this convenience very much. However, I felt there should have been clearer instructions about whether it’s acceptable to go out wearing yukata and slippers. When I entered the onsen itself, there was a strong chlorine smell that made me question if it truly qualified as an onsen—it wasn’t relaxing at all. Perhaps my expectations were too high given that it's relatively affordable...

    We always choose Shi...

    We always choose Shimahana to celebrate our son's birthday. You can enjoy Onsen tours at affiliated hotels via a glass boat, and there are pools, saunas, and delicious meals. The hotel offers so much fun for the whole family that this is our third year staying here. Upon check-in, we were upgraded to a spacious room with a home theater and bunk beds, which made our son incredibly excited! We had such a luxurious time and were thrilled to see our son's happy face while celebrating his birthday at Shimahana. At check-out, we even received a heartfelt message with a commemorative photo, which made us very happy. Thank you so much! We look forward to visiting again next year!

    During Golden Week

    I visited during the Golden Week holiday. Normally, it takes about an hour by car from Kobe, but due to traffic, it took around three hours. Before arriving, we stopped by a winery on the island for a tasting (non-alcoholic sparkling wine for one person) and made some purchases before heading to Island Hana. The hotel was quiet and seemed far removed from the hustle and bustle of Golden Week. The explanation at the front desk was clear, and after taking a short rest in our room, we took the hotel's boat to explore their sister hotel across the shore. The atmosphere of this boat ride was wonderful—it only lasted a few minutes but felt like traveling abroad. While we could use the bath at the sister hotel across the shore, we chose instead to browse their souvenir corner and outdoor deck before returning to Island Hana. Later, we enjoyed bathing in the hotel's own bathhouse; though small in size, it was not crowded and allowed us to relax fully. Back in our room with wine purchased earlier in hand while gazing out at sea, dinner time arrived quickly. Heading downstairs where dinner is served revealed a lively restaurant bustling with guests—a surprising contrast given how quiet this accommodation feels otherwise! The buffet offered plenty of variety including fresh local vegetables aplenty—everything tasted deliciously fresh! After filling ourselves up thoroughly came another quick soak followed by restful sleep afterward. Although initially planning sunrise-time baths next morning oversleeping meant missing that opportunity yet serendipitously finding fewer people present later instead allowing peaceful enjoyment nonetheless! Breakfast too proved abundant alongside tasty offerings alike previous meals experienced here overall leaving impressions positively memorable throughout stay itself altogether enhanced further thanks largely towards friendly smiling foreign staff members working diligently everywhere encountered meanwhile reflecting upon personal demeanor professionally inspired anew post-holiday rejuvenation ahead thereafter ultimately concluding heartfelt gratitude expressed sincerely thusly: Thank You Very Much Indeed!

    First Time in Awaji Island

    I stayed for two nights at the end of last month and was very satisfied. The view from the bath was also wonderful, but my wife was concerned about whether it could be seen from other Hotels. We are planning another trip and would love to visit again. Thank you so much for the enjoyable two days!

    I had a luxurious experience.

    The Room was Western-style, very clean, and had a luxurious feel. The dinner course portions were small, featuring a variety of ingredients with diverse flavors, allowing us to enjoy everything without feeling overly full. Breakfast was served in a buffet style with plenty of Awaji Island ingredients, offering so many choices it was hard to decide. We also enjoyed using the baths from other Hotels within the group. We would definitely like to stay here again when visiting Awaji Island.
