    It was my first visi...

    It was my first visit in about 10 years, and I was very satisfied with the maisonette-style Room (having a second floor was a big hit with the kids, and the view was amazing) as well as the bath. The hot spring water felt slightly silky and seemed gentle on the skin. The meals were delicious, but there was more than we could finish—we barely made it to the sukiyaki. We look forward to staying again.

    Family trip

    We traveled around Kumamoto by rental car with my spouse and our two sons, and stayed at Soan in two Rooms. Overall, we were very satisfied with our stay. The staff were kind and attentive, which made us feel truly welcome. The Onsen water quality was excellent, and we felt deeply relaxed after bathing. The Rooms were clean and comfortable, making this Accommodation a great choice for a family trip. I highly recommend it, and would love to stay again if we have the chance.

    It was the best stay.

    We stayed here for my wife’s birthday trip. This time we chose the “Wa” Room, and it was very spacious and comfortable. The in-room Onsen was a semi-open-air bath, so we could relax and fully enjoy the Onsen. If you walk to the main building, there is a large public bath. Towels are provided, there is also a sauna, and both the water quality and the views were excellent—we used it in both the evening and the morning. We were told Shuttle Service was available, but it was only about a 3-minute walk, so we took a short stroll instead. Meals were served in our Room, and both breakfast and dinner featured plenty of local specialties—we were very satisfied. For dinner, they brought the appetizers first, then later delivered the main dishes and dessert; the timing was just right. It was nicer than having each dish served one by one because we could eat at our own relaxed pace. Since we booked an anniversary Plan, in addition to a regular full meal portion, it included one bottle of sparkling wine for two and a No. 4 whole cake (12 cm), so we were absolutely stuffed. The staff were polite and attentive with just the right amount of distance, making our stay comfortable from start to finish. We would love to return if we have another chance, and it’s an Accommodation I would definitely recommend to others!

    A Quiet Accommodation for a Relaxing Stay

    The hall and Room had a modern art-like design. The most disappointing part was the Onsen-style bath in the Room. I filled it and checked whether the temperature would be maintained, but when I tried to get in three hours later, it was lukewarm. I had to add hot water many times until it reached a comfortable temperature. I should have kept the free-flowing hot spring button pressed. Dinner was served in the Room, but almost everything was brought out at once, and only two dishes came later. The attendant was a foreign staff member and their service felt careless. All that remained was disappointment.

    Be amazed by Aso’s star-filled night sky.

    The Room, the meals, the hospitality, and even the hot water—everything was excellent. It was truly a perfect Accommodation with nothing to complain about. My parents, whom I brought along, were delighted, and I was happy too. This time our family stayed in “Asagiri” and “Shirakumo.” “Shirakumo” has only one bed, so we were worried at first, but it was a king-size bed—more than spacious enough for two adults. The Room was quiet and relaxing, and we slept very well. We also loved the thoughtful touches, like the small flowers arranged at the entrance and the aroma diffuser by the pillows—there were many things that helped us unwind. We enjoyed sipping coffee on the balcony while taking in Aso’s fresh morning air, soaking in the bath, and simply spending time in the Room. We wished we had checked in earlier. The meals were beautiful to look at and everything tasted wonderful. Above all, it’s impressive that even the rice and miso soup were so delicious. We also visited the “Yumeshizuku” bath early in the morning; walking there while listening to birdsong was very soothing. All of your staff were incredibly kind, and we felt comfortable right up until the moment we passed through the gate to leave. On our way out we learned that a herd of deer had passed nearby that morning—it's amazing that this place is so easy to reach by car yet still lets you truly feel Aso’s nature. We were deeply moved by Aso’s starry sky as seen from our balcony as well. It became a wonderful family memory. Since we live far away it may be difficult to return in six months’ time, but when we come back to Kyushu we would love to stay again. Thank you very much.

    Girls’ trip for three

    I stayed at “Kishima” in April. As I arrived late for check-in, the kaiseki meal was served all at once, but it was so plentiful it filled the table and looked beautifully presented. I was nearly full before even reaching the main course, and every dish had a comforting handmade touch and tasted wonderful. I was told the rice is “Mori no Kumasan,” and its fluffy texture and gentle sweetness really stood out. The ponzu sauce was also excellent; I later learned it could be purchased at the front desk, and I slightly regret not buying some. For the main course, you can choose from steamed Kuroge Wagyu in a bamboo steamer, sukiyaki, or shabu-shabu. I chose the steamed option this time, but as it cools fairly quickly after being served, shabu-shabu may be better for those who care about timing. The Room had an Onsen bath, which allowed me to relax and unwind. The complimentary water in the refrigerator was also delicious, and having an espresso machine added to the overall comfort of my stay. I arrived by electric vehicle, and there were multiple charging stations in the parking area, which made me feel at ease. Even on a rainy day, they kindly walked me to my car with an umbrella—thoughtful service that I truly appreciated. One small point: during Shuttle Service to the main building, there was a noticeable smell of cigarette smoke from the driver’s side. Overall, I was highly satisfied with the dining experience, Facility offerings, and service alike—it felt like an Accommodation where you can enjoy a truly special time. Thank you very much.

    Our First Family Trip

    Traveling with our one-year-old twins on our first family trip, we were a bit anxious, but it turned out to be unnecessary. The staff kindly helped carry our luggage on arrival and departure and even warmed up meals for the twins, which was a huge help. The food was all delicious, and we left completely satisfied. We were also soothed by the beautiful Aso scenery and the baths—it was a truly wonderful trip! Thank you for taking such great care of us. We’d love to come back once the kids are a little older. Thank you very much!

    From the beautiful g...

    From the beautiful gate at the parking entrance to the warm welcome from the staff and guidance to our room, everything was exceptional! We also used the shuttle service to visit the large bath in a separate building, which was fantastic! The meal was so filling that we couldn't finish dessert and decided to enjoy it later after relaxing in the onsen. However, we had to wait too long for grilled and fried dishes during dinner, and unfortunately, the sukiyaki's cabbage and green onions were tough and not tasty... but the meat was absolutely amazing! The Saikyo-yaki at breakfast was delicious! Although I often stayed in Aso before, this was my first time staying in South Aso. As always, Mount Aso is breathtakingly beautiful, but the morning view here was truly spectacular! This accommodation is definitely worth revisiting!

    The autumn leaves are stunningly beautiful.

    The autumn leaves were very beautiful from the room. There were many tourists from overseas, but there were no issues, and I had a great experience chatting in the open-air bath. The staff seemed to include those proficient in languages, showing their efforts as an accommodation. The variety of uniquely designed baths was enjoyable. The food was also delicious. However, the reservation method for private baths may need some consideration.

    Completely satisfied.

    Upon arrival at the Ryokan, we were warmly greeted, and our luggage was carried for us. The guidance and explanations about the Ryokan were very polite, kind, and easy to understand. This time, we stayed in the "Nagomi" Room, and dinner featured sukiyaki with premium Japanese black beef as the main dish. In addition to the sukiyaki, there was an abundance of dishes that couldn't even fit on the table—all of them were delicious. The private bath was so pleasant that my companion used it multiple times. I also enjoyed not only the private bath but also visited the large public bath; including the open-air bath, everything was excellent. We were completely satisfied with every aspect of our stay. Both my companion and I are looking forward to coming back again to try a different room and different cuisine next time!

    The breathtaking view of Mount Aso's Five Peaks

    The staff provided kind and attentive hospitality, leaving us very satisfied. They even drove us to the sister accommodation, Yume Shizuku, which was visible from the property. The large public bath had perfect water temperature and stunning views. Upon departure, the front desk staff greeted us with smiles, showcasing excellent training throughout the team at this accommodation. At Soan, we enjoyed in-room dining for the first time in a while. A Nepali woman served our meal with great care, making it a comfortable dining experience without unnecessary formality. My elderly wife was especially delighted with the food. As mentioned in reviews, the private open-air bath in our room was wonderful but slightly small; it would have been even better if it were twice as spacious. The TV was also a compact model by today's standards. Nonetheless, this is an accommodation we would love to visit again!

    I had a relaxing stay.

    We had a very relaxing stay. Each building serves as a private guest room, ensuring privacy and allowing us to truly unwind. The meals were exceptionally delicious, and we thoroughly enjoyed them. Thank you so much for your hospitality. It would be even more convenient if there were a restroom on the second floor of the bedroom.

    The check-in process...

    The check-in process and guidance to the Room were excellent, with attentive service. The Room and furnishings were also wonderful. We were especially delighted with the shochu barrel bath, which was highly satisfying. The temperature and quality of the water were exceptional. However, we found the meals disappointing. While the horse sashimi and shabu-shabu meat were extremely delicious and satisfying, there seemed to be a lack of creativity or flair in the dishes despite their variety. Many guests may appreciate in-Room dining, but perhaps because of this, there was no tea service provided; we had to settle for using the tea available in the Room, which was quite disappointing. It would have been nice if tea had been served alongside dessert at least. We wonder if it was just us who felt that true hospitality spirit was somewhat lacking?

    Enjoy a Private Villa

    We had a relaxing stay. The large public bath is located in the Hotel, and it takes a short walk to get there. After bathing, we were kindly driven back to our Room (separate villa) since we were wearing yukata. Meals were also served in the Room, and I thought it must have been quite an effort for the staff. The next morning, due to thunderstorms, we decided not to use the public bath and instead enjoyed the open-air bath in our Room.

    It was a luxurious solo trip.

    I decided to take a solo trip for the first time in a while as I had consecutive days off during the weekdays, and I found Souan on IKYU.com as an accommodation of interest. I stayed there and had a wonderful experience. It was about 30 minutes by rental car from the airport, and upon arrival, I was warmly welcomed and guided to my room with care. The room had a traditional Japanese house style but was well-maintained, with comfortable beds, ample outlets around them, and even an aroma set provided. The private bath attached to the room could be used as an open-air bath but also had glass doors that could be closed to keep out insects. After sunset, turning off the lights in the room and stepping out onto the deck revealed a breathtaking starry sky—truly amazing. I also used the large public bath at Yume Shizuku next door. It had just been renovated and was incredibly clean; even the sauna was very comfortable. The cold water bath using natural spring water from Aso was particularly refreshing. Meals were served as Japanese-style courses for both dinner and breakfast, each dish carefully prepared with attention to detail. Although I left some rice at dinner, they kindly made it into salted rice balls for me to enjoy later as a midnight snack. If I have another chance to visit Kumamoto, I would definitely stay here again!

    Highly satisfied!!

    I stayed during severe weather, but I was able to spend a relaxing and luxurious time without any worries!! The Room's bath and the large public bath were both excellent!! The cold water bath after the sauna, possibly due to Aso's underground water, felt soft and incredibly pleasant!! Of course, the meals were flexibly accommodated, allowing me to enjoy a leisurely meal with my favorite wine together with my family. I definitely want to visit again on a sunny day!!

    Relax and unwind with a private stay in an entire property.

    I stayed with my elderly parent. All meals were served in the room, and since the Onsen was also in the room, there was no need to move around after check-in, making it a relaxing and comfortable stay. Upon inquiry beforehand for my mother with mobility issues, they recommended a suitable room and even prepared a dining table with chairs for meals and a special bath chair for assistance. The service was very warm and made our stay pleasant. The meals, including fresh sashimi from Ariake and sukiyaki, were delicious and memorable. The refreshing highland air added to the experience, making this an accommodation I would love to visit again.

    Unfortunately, it was heavy rain.

    Thank you for your stay. The villa was surprisingly spacious beyond expectations. It would have been the perfect location if the weather had been clear. However, on the day of our visit, there was heavy rain and thunderstorm close to a storm, so we couldn't take a walk, which was disappointing. The Onsen in the room was comfortable to use, but due to the rain, we had to leave the open-air bath in the main building quickly despite its charm. For just two of us as a couple, the room felt too large, and since there wasn't a toilet in the bedroom, going at night felt a bit scary. We hope to visit again on a sunny day next time!

    A stay for our wedding anniversary with my wife and our daughter's first trip.

    We stayed to celebrate our wedding anniversary with my wife and our 2-month-old daughter! The detached Ryokan allowed us to enjoy a private Room bath and in-room dining, making it a safe and comfortable stay even with a newborn. The staff's hospitality, service, and thoughtfulness were exceptional and truly touching. The cuisine was exquisite, leaving us completely satisfied. Highly recommended!

    I look forward to the next time.

    The staff were all kind to the children, and the food was varied and very delicious! However, it was disappointing that the cleaning was not thorough. There were hairs stuck to the line where you could tell how much water the previous guest had filled. It was my husband's birthday trip, but I didn't feel like soaking in the water multiple times. I didn't notice it in the morning, but the water in the evening to night was lukewarm, and I kept adding hot water. It might have been unavoidable because it was cold, but I couldn't warm up. It might be just right on a warmer day. There were many disappointing aspects, but the children seemed to be having fun all the time, so I would like to visit again at a different time.
