Not just for an overnight stay.
A wonderful Accommodation located in the heart of the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter. We stayed in a Room converted from a traditional storehouse. It was an extremely hot day in July, so managing the air conditioning was understandably challenging for a Ryokan. Still, the location and the building were outstanding, and we went out for walks many times—afternoon, evening, early morning, and midday—to fully enjoy the area. Rather than simply staying overnight, the stay itself felt like sightseeing that let us immerse ourselves in the Bikan Historical Quarter.

Satisfied
We were very satisfied with the service, meals, and Room. The meals in particular were generous, and we left feeling completely full. However, although we had made a Reservation for a smoking Room, there was no ashtray. When we mentioned it to the staff member, they initially responded with “Smoking?”, and only brought an ashtray after checking, which was disappointing. It was also disappointing that the bath water was too lukewarm.

A historic Accommodation!
Staying in a historic building was such a fun and memorable experience—truly something special! However, the washbasin area and toilets had been renovated, so there was no inconvenience. I didn’t hear voices, but creaking noises from upstairs and next door? echoed through the building, which bothered me a little when trying to sleep. The bath was small, but I could enjoy it privately, so I was able to relax. It had been a while since I’d had dinner served in the Room, and I really enjoyed the delicious meal. Rather than modern kaiseki, it felt like traditional Ryokan cuisine. The sashimi was cut thickly—excellent and delicious! The soup dish was also great! There was plenty of rice and pickles too, which made me happy!! My stomach and heart were completely satisfied. The only real downside was the pillow!! It was hard and high, and just uncomfortable to use—I ended up sleeping without one. When I woke up during the night, my husband was sleeping without a pillow too...

An Accommodation with Exceptional Cuisine and Hospitality
This is a wonderful Accommodation where you can enjoy delicious food in a historic building. First of all, the location is excellent. Dinner was great—the food and drinks were both delicious, and I especially loved the white peach liqueur. When I asked about the brand, they even looked up the price and where I could buy it nearby. As for the dishes, the squid sakura-jelly appetizer and sea bream chazuke were particularly outstanding. At night, we borrowed lanterns for an evening stroll. The Bikan Historical Quarter at night was beautiful as expected, but a staff member also told us where we might see fireflies—and we were lucky enough to spot some. Breakfast was also delicious, and they prepared tickets for the Ohara Museum of Art at reception. The ticket booth for riverboat rides was close as well, so we were able to do everything we wanted to do in Kurashiki. As someone with allergies, I had some runny nose after the futon was laid out, and I found the bath fairly standard—so I deducted a point—but overall it was a lovely Accommodation that left me very satisfied. The staff’s service in particular was excellent. Thank you very much.

Our sea bream chazuke has been a signature dish since we first opened. It is enjoyed by pouring our secret sesame sauce and tea over slices of sea bream sashimi, and it is a must-try we highly recommend to all guests. As for the white peach liqueur, it is made with Shimizu Hakuto peaches from Okayama Prefecture and is known for its rich, fragrant flavor. We are delighted to hear you enjoyed it together with your meal. The Bikan Historical Quarter at night offers a different kind of tranquility than during the day, beautifully complemented by the soft glow of streetlights and lanterns. We are also glad you were able to spot fireflies—if your stay allowed you to enjoy this special moment unique to the season, we could not be happier. It was a wonderful accommodation in every way.
I stayed for one night with a friend. They kindly stored our luggage before check-in and recommended nearby shops. The Room and bath were very clean, and we were able to relax. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, and we were very satisfied. Above all, everyone at the Accommodation was kind, making it a comfortable place to stay. They even lent us lanterns for an evening walk and showed us fireflies by the riverside next to the Accommodation. It made for a wonderful trip, and we are truly grateful to everyone there. If I have the chance to visit Kurashiki again, my friend and I would definitely like to stay here again.

Right in the heart of the Bikan Historical Quarter
A long-established, charming Ryokan with cuisine, located right in the heart of the Bikan Historical Quarter. The dishes weren’t especially elaborate or made with luxury ingredients, but each one was delicious—classic Japanese cuisine done well. The building is old, but the hospitality was wonderful and I had a very comfortable stay. The only thing that didn’t suit me was the firm, high buckwheat-husk pillow. I’m used to a low memory-foam pillow, so offering a choice of pillows might be appreciated by many guests.

Retro atmosphere with a touch of authentic Japanese charm
Located in the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter, this Ryokan offers both charm and convenience. The ticket booth and boarding area for the riverboat are less than a 3-minute walk away, making it easy to line up early at the ticket booth, which opens at 9 AM. The staff at the Ryokan were very kind, and the kaiseki dinner was absolutely delicious. At night, lanterns are provided so you can enjoy a stroll through the illuminated historical quarter in your yukata.

The meals are delicious.
The meals were unforgettable and absolutely delicious. Everything was prepared with care, achieving a perfect balance without being excessive or lacking. The thick, fresh sashimi was a highlight, reminding me fondly of Okayama. I believe even luxury hotels in Tokyo would struggle to offer such exquisite cuisine. The selection of sake was also excellent. The bath was clean and pleasant, but since it is not an Onsen, I have rated it accordingly.

Stayed for 2 nights.
The staff provided very courteous service. On the second night, I was unwell and couldn't eat a regular portion for dinner, but they kindly and flexibly accommodated my needs, for which I am very grateful. I would definitely like to stay here again next time.

A very lovely accommodation.
To celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary, we planned a trip starting from a hotel in Osaka and stayed at local accommodations in Tsuwano, Izumo, and Kurashiki. All the accommodations were wonderful, but Tsurugata stood out as a pure Japanese Ryokan with traditional charm and service preserved. We are grateful for the thoughtful hospitality of the Ryokan staff. Next time, we hope to bring our grandchildren along.

Enjoy a luxurious stay in a historic building in the timeless city of Kurashiki.
Experience the history of Kurashiki and enjoy a luxurious stay at this prestigious Ryokan. The flavors of Kurashiki are generally on the sweeter side, but they are elegantly prepared and truly delicious. The specialty sea bream chazuke featured thick, flavorful slices of sea bream. The Room was not only spacious but also conveniently located next to the lobby, making it easy to grab complimentary coffee and access the bath. Having exclusive access to the garden was also a delightful bonus. Lastly, a heartfelt thank you to all the staff for their kindness and attentive service!

Kurashiki at its best
It was a lovely atmosphere in a historic building. The place was well-cleaned, and from the room on the second floor, it was nice to see rickshaws passing through the alley. The meals were very delicious. The staff were all very pleasant. We visited on the day of the light-up event in the Bikan Historical Quarter, so the stroll after dinner became a wonderful memory. The location is in the center of the Bikan Historical Quarter, full of Kurashiki charm, and I highly recommend it. I would like to visit again.
