    A 4-Day, 3-Night Summer Retreat in Tateshina

We stayed here for our second night. We were blessed with great weather—it was perfect. Since we arrived early, we visited Otaki Falls nearby, but the valley was deep and the elevation changes were intense, leaving us completely exhausted. (There were some fallen trees and rockfalls, so we had to take a detour.) This is a wonderful auberge, just as reputed. That day it was only our group, so we fully enjoyed the private bath, and the Room was lovely—we could relax and truly enjoy a cool summer getaway. Every dish was delicious, and the wine at dinner was outstanding. We were especially impressed by the peach dessert. The owners’ warm hospitality was exceptional—this has become an Accommodation we definitely want to visit again.

    It was great.

We had a relaxing stay. All of the meals were delicious and we really enjoyed them. We thought Tateshina might be hot too, but it was cool and perfect as a summer getaway. Thank you very much.

    Just like a private villa

An auberge with only three Rooms—on the day of our stay, we were the only guests. We had exclusive use of the lovely bath and the wonderful dinner. It truly felt like a private villa with a chef. Nothing to fault. Thank you very much.

    A Highly Rated Auberge

Both dinner and breakfast were highly satisfying in both quality and quantity. The private bath was also great, with a spacious tub. The Room amenities and the dining area felt a bit dated, but everything was kept clean and well maintained.

The mountains smile as they always have.

There is an Accommodation with a large parking lot by the roadside after climbing the Märchen Road up to an altitude of 1,500 meters. They apparently still had a record of my stay from seven years ago, and I was finally able to make the long-awaited return visit. I stayed in a different Room this time, but the fittings and furniture were kept very clean, and it felt as though some areas had been renovated. The private bath is used on a first-come, first-served basis at check-in. I was told it would only be available after dinner, which was disappointing, so I filled the in-room unit bath instead. There is a sufficiently deep tub and a washing area, but since showers are considered standard there were no wash bucket or bath stool. I asked for a stool and they brought one. The local beer via room service was excellent. Although they said they “couldn’t guarantee it but would let me know if it opened up,” they informed me when the private bath became available, and I was able to relax in the tub before dinner. Dinner was genuine fine dining just as before—the chef is still at their best. It is cuisine worth visiting for on its own; local craft beer would pair well with it. A wonderful location, a clean and lovely building, careful maintenance of the Facilitys, and harmony with the surrounding environment—this Accommodation seems to be thriving. Since an auberge’s appeal is not only about food, I felt the owner could take even more pride in their professionalism as hosts.

    The meals were delicious.

The owners were very welcoming, and above all, the food was exceptionally delicious. The Room was well cleaned, and I felt that attention to detail extended even to the smallest things. I would like to visit again and highly recommend this Accommodation.

    Thank you for your support.

Once again, we thoroughly enjoyed dinner—from asparagus, salmon, and a new onion potage to sea bream and lean beef. We’re looking forward to our next visit.

    A Hidden-Gem Auberge

I heard that the current owner has taken over this long-established auberge. Many historic auberges tend to have rather compact Rooms, but this one pleasantly exceeded expectations. The Room is a maisonette layout over two floors: the first floor is a relaxing lounge area, and upstairs you’ll find the bedroom and an additional sitting room. It feels very spacious, making it easy to unwind throughout your stay. I also appreciated that they even offer a private bath—rare for an auberge—and it really added to the overall satisfaction. I had been told it’s family-run, so at first I wondered who would be in charge of the kitchen. The person serving was a man, while the chef was his wife—an unexpectedly refreshing surprise. Every dish was delicious, and the lean steak in particular was outstanding. As I’ve gotten older, heavily marbled meat can feel a bit rich, but this one had concentrated flavor from the lean cut and stayed enjoyable right to the last bite. At around 1,500 meters above sea level, I chose beer instead of wine—but I was still surprised by how quickly it hit me. Maybe it was the mountain air; it felt like a night when alcohol worked just a little faster than usual. To find such a wonderful hideaway-like auberge tucked away in such a secluded spot—this is definitely somewhere I’d like to return to quietly when I want some peace and calm. One extra note: it was also my first time feeling that my Diamond member benefits truly paid off—drinks and sweets brought up to the Room after dinner, plus a local craft beer as a parting gift on departure.

Delicious cuisine and wine, restful sleep—an auberge experience like no other.

We stayed again this year, following our visit last year. The meals prepared by the hostess and enjoyed on the comfortable sofa were, of course, delicious; the host’s wine selection was also excellent. The Onsen was delightful, and the view of the sky through the skylight was beautiful—making for a truly relaxing stay.

Thank you very much! I’ll visit again!

This was our first time making a Reservation for the private Plan for 8 guests. With a large group, we usually end up renting an entire house and just grabbing something easy for dinner, but this time we arrived at the Accommodation, enjoyed the tent sauna (and jumped into the snow), and in the evening savored the couple’s gentle French cuisine—so we could fully enjoy both nature and dining without worrying about others. We were extremely satisfied! They also carefully explained the wine pairings, so we highly recommend it for adult group trips.

    Highly Satisfying Auberge

The delicious cuisine and wine from my stay a year ago left such an impression that I decided to return. While the food was excellent last time, it seems the skills and creativity have been further refined. Some of the same menu items were offered, but the flavors were on a whole new level. The wine pairing during dinner perfectly complemented the dishes, and I was fully satisfied with four glasses. Although there is no Onsen, it is a comfortable place to stay, and I look forward to visiting again in the future. Thank you in advance!

I had a very relaxing time.

This was my first visit, and I was impressed by the wonderful atmosphere, delicious food, and the amazing private bath. The owners were very kind and welcoming, allowing us to enjoy a relaxing year-end stay. Thank you for accommodating our special meal requests so graciously.

    Delicious meals and wine.

As an auberge, I stayed here with high expectations for the meals. Before check-in, I strolled around the auberge and enjoyed the autumn foliage, including many maple trees. The dinner I was looking forward to started with a freshly made, piping hot quiche. It was a unique and impactful dish that resembled a gratin rather than a traditional quiche, and it was delicious. The parfait adorned with Shine Muscat grapes served at the end was visually stunning with sugar art toppings and tasted amazing. I enjoyed pairing wines selected to complement each dish while listening to explanations about them during the meal—it was truly delightful. The room was spacious and warm, providing great comfort. The private bath was excellent; I wished I could have used it again in the morning but unfortunately couldn't do so.

    The same comfort as always.

Thank you as always for the delicious wine and dinner. I also enjoyed the local craft beer. I ended up drinking a bit too much (as usual). The weather wasn't great this time, and I walked quite a lot in just half a day, but I was able to fully relax at the Hotel.

The delicious and visually stunning meals will leave you speechless, making ratings unnecessary.

A charming auberge run by a couple raising their children in the remote mountains of Tateshina. The wife, who started with cooking classes, creates exquisite dinners that are truly impressive. The restaurant's ambiance and the husband's professional service add to the experience. Despite limited Facility amenities, guests leave with a deep sense of satisfaction. While it seems already thriving, perhaps opening a dedicated restaurant in a more accessible resort area or bustling city with slightly expanded scale could be worth considering?

The meals, wine, and flavors were delightful.

Auberge limited to three groups per day. The Rooms and baths are clean and well-maintained. Fresh flowers (Lisianthus) are displayed in each Room, and the furnishings reflect the owner's thoughtful selection. Dinner included appetizers, freshly baked bread, fish dishes, steak, and dessert—all beautifully presented and delicious. It was delightful to have a female chef as well. We enjoyed pairing wine with the meal; the local Nagano Manns Wine Chikumagawa was excellent and complemented the dishes perfectly. The next morning, we visited Mishaka Pond before it became crowded—it was serene—and enjoyed a delightful breakfast of Eggs Benedict. This experience made us fall in love with Tateshina even more. Thank you for your hospitality!

An auberge where you can savor Tateshina nouvelle macro French cuisine made with locally sourced ingredients.

This was a cozy, homey auberge located in the Tateshina Highlands. We were extremely satisfied with the meals, the staff’s service, the private bath, and how enjoyable the Room was. The meals were French cuisine making great use of local ingredients, and it was a dinner we were truly delighted with—turning familiar local products into something this delicious. I’m not a culinary professional so I can’t explain it well, but I’ve had experiences where expensive French food didn’t suit my taste; this was the complete opposite—simply and genuinely delicious. The hospitality was also excellent. We had a Plan that included several perks, but when we declined because we couldn’t eat any more, they thoughtfully offered an alternative at checkout. They also carefully brushed off the snow that had piled up on our car. We stayed in a Superior Maisonette Room with a loft. The layout was unlike anything we’d experienced elsewhere, and our child enjoyed it very much as well. The private bath also had a wonderful atmosphere and was relaxing—truly lovely. Thank you very much. We hope you will continue to thrive as an extremely popular Accommodation and play an important role in supporting the development of the local area.

We enjoyed another year of relaxing and luxurious moments!

We visit every year after enjoying skiing. The spacious Room and the large bath that warms you up from the inside and relieves fatigue are wonderful, but what we always look forward to the most is the food! Paired with Japanese wine, which we rarely encounter, the dishes made with fresh ingredients delight all five senses. Even our daughter, who usually dislikes vegetables, tries them here and exclaims how sweet they are with excitement. The warm hospitality of the hosts always makes us feel at home. We're so happy to have this as a winter tradition. Thank you again this year; we'll be back next year!

We were deeply impressed by the exceptional hospitality and delicious meals.

We stayed here to celebrate her birthday. We were very satisfied with the interior and facilities of the Hotel, but above all, we were deeply moved by the thoughtfulness of the owners and the exquisite meals. On that day, it seemed we were the only guests, and enjoying French cuisine while watching the fire in a wood stove amidst light snowfall was truly exceptional. The French dishes had a concentrated vegetable flavor and were incredibly delicious. The paired wines matched perfectly with each dish. During our post-meal greeting, we received a lovely dried flower gift from the owners, which touched us deeply. This day was special for both of us, and choosing this Hotel made it even more memorable. We hope to visit again during a warmer season like early spring!

Delighted with our stay at the small auberge in Nagano!

We wondered if a couple could provide attentive service, but since the reviews were mostly positive, we decided to make a reservation—and it was absolutely the right choice. Dinner was a French course meal featuring local ingredients paired with Nagano wine. Although there were three groups staying, the tables were spaced apart, allowing us to enjoy our meal without worrying about others. We had concerns about cleanliness, but every part of the accommodation was spotless. The couple's thoughtful hospitality could be felt throughout, and it made us appreciate this kind of small auberge. We will definitely visit again!

    Everything is perfect.

We chose this accommodation to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary and create special memories with a trip that the whole family could enjoy. The accommodation deserves a perfect 5-star rating. The maisonette-style two-story room kept the kids entertained, and they thoroughly enjoyed their time in the room. At their request, we all slept on the second floor together, which left us with some aches (laughs). As for the cuisine, it was undeniably outstanding. The selection of wine included not only Japanese but also international options, showcasing thoughtful efforts to enhance the "wine experience." We were so engrossed in enjoying everything that we didn’t even realize how much we had eaten! Regarding the bath, although it was slightly dimly lit and felt a bit thrilling at first, this ambiance turned out to be quite relaxing for everyone, including our children. My husband enjoyed half-body bathing as he tends to feel warm easily (laughs). On a personal note, I found the collection of essays by the owner couple incredibly engaging; my husband and I read through all of them together. Even though our daughter wasn’t familiar with French culture or language before this trip, she quickly grasped everything thanks to its clear explanations. For those who wish to spend leisurely moments reading something meaningful during their stay here, these essays provide an excellent way to do so. As colder months approach and travel to Nagano becomes more challenging due to weather conditions, I recommend checking transportation information carefully before planning your visit. Next year, my husband and I hope to bring along my parents as well when we return here again. We look forward to your hospitality at that time. Thank you very much for providing us with such a memorable experience!
