    Attentive, detail-oriented service

Since we have small children, we called in advance to ask about the Room and other details, and they kindly answered our questions.

    Family Trip

The service was pleasant, and the view from the Room was wonderful. Unfortunately, it rained heavily on the day of our stay, but the tributary of the Otani River (?) seen from the Room looked especially beautiful, and we had a very comfortable time. Although there were many dishes, each one was thoughtfully prepared with great taste, and we were very satisfied. I felt that the rocky area around the open-air bath was uneven and could be dangerous for elderly guests, and I also noticed how dark the corridor with souvenirs was, but aside from that, everything was excellent and my family loved it as well. Thank you very much.

    Exceptional hospitality

We used this Hotel for a trip for my elderly parents. They prepared a top-floor Room with a great view, and it was spacious enough for two people to stay comfortably and relax. The meals were gently seasoned, with care put into each dish—wonderful cuisine. After dinner, you can enjoy live piano music in the lobby. During their stay, the Hotel staff spoke to them and chatted with them in various ways, so they were able to have an enjoyable time. We would definitely like to stay here again when traveling to Nikko.

This was my first visit. I was greeted at the entrance, and everyone welcomed me warmly as I entered. During check-in, I enjoyed matcha and sweets, which were very delicious. The guidance to the room and meal service were very polite and pleasant. Some staff members appeared to be from other countries, but they made an effort to speak Japanese earnestly, which made me want to cheer them on. I hope they continue doing their best! The room seemed renovated; it was very spacious and user-friendly. The large public bath, including the changing area and bath itself, was clean with a sense of freshness. The onsen was also excellent. Although I thought I had mentioned during the reservation that "I have a small appetite," it seemed this wasn't communicated properly. However, the portion size felt just right for me in the end, so it worked out well! Both dinner and breakfast were extremely delicious—I am very satisfied. The hospitality truly came through, making my stay comfortable and enjoyable. Thank you very much!

I would like to stay here again.

We stayed as a group of three women. The Room was very clean, and the meals were served in a spacious private room for both breakfast and dinner, offering a luxurious space that felt almost too extravagant for just three people. The service was also courteous.

    The meals are excellent!

The meals were perfect in terms of quantity and taste! We enjoyed them leisurely in a private room. However, it would have been nice to have drip coffee in the room. The Onsen was a bit lukewarm.

    Overall, it was great.

It is within walking distance to Nikko Toshogu Shrine, and the location is convenient even for heading to Oku-Nikko via Irohazaka. The food was delicious, and what left a particularly strong impression were the fresh yuba and the marbled meat used in shabu-shabu. Even now, I find myself wanting to eat them again. The staff member who attended us was very pleasant. Overall, it’s an accommodation that offers great satisfaction. Thank you for your hospitality!

    I had a relaxing time.

This was my first stay at the accommodation. I arrived before check-in via the shuttle bus from Tobu Nikko Station, left my luggage, and went sightseeing. After a relaxing day of sightseeing, I returned to the accommodation and checked in. Sweet treats and matcha tea helped soothe my tired body before heading to my room. The staff kindly explained the facilities during the guided tour. The same staff member also served our meals. The room had a slightly old feel with creaky floors but was clean overall. After refreshing myself in the bath (the outdoor bath felt a bit lukewarm), I enjoyed dinner. The presentation was beautiful, and everything was delicious—I left feeling very full (though I found the rice slightly soft for my taste). My mother absolutely loved the seasoning of all dishes. I look forward to visiting again in another season to enjoy more delicious meals!

Stayed during Golden Week. Conveniently located near Toshogu Shrine, which was very helpful. Especially appreciated being able to purchase admission tickets at the front desk. Since it was a holiday, there was a long line at Toshogu Shrine, and the system required purchasing tickets first and then lining up again for entry. If we hadn't bought them in advance, we would have had to wait in line for a long time. The room was spacious and clean, and all the staff provided attentive service that left a lasting impression. As we were two families staying together, instead of in-room dining, they prepared a separate venue for us; however, it was unfortunate that the neighboring room was so noisy that we couldn't even hear our own family conversations. This wasn't the fault of the ryokan though... The food was delicious but felt like standard kaiseki cuisine. Overall, it's an excellent ryokan, and I would love to stay here again if visiting Toshogu Shrine in the future!

Despite arriving late due to work, the kind assistance from the front desk staff made me feel very at ease. The Room was a spacious and relaxing Japanese-style space, with a view from the window that was soothing. The open-air bath was also very comfortable, allowing me to enjoy a brief but peaceful moment. A shuttle bus to Nikko Station was available, and its proximity to Toshogu Shrine made it very convenient for sightseeing. Due to my tight schedule this time, I couldn't have meals there, but I hope to visit again someday at a more leisurely pace. Thank you so much for the thoughtful hospitality of all the staff members. I truly appreciate your care and support during my stay!

    Meals

The most anticipated meal was very disappointing. None of the dishes were tasty. Even the soup lacked any aroma or flavor from the broth. It’s hard to understand how such tasteless food could be served. It was truly disappointing.

We stayed as a family of four, including parents and children. The accommodation is right in front of Nikko Toshogu Shrine, within walking distance. The meals were very satisfying. We would love to stay here again.

    I was very satisfied.

Stayed during the peak of Golden Week. A shuttle service is available from the station, and the location is so close to Nikko Toshogu Shrine that it feels like it's right at its doorstep. Opening the window, you can hear the sound of a flowing river, which was incredibly refreshing and detoxifying. After checking out, I walked to Tobu Nikko Station as the weather was pleasant. Along the way, there were various souvenir shops and eateries offering street food, making it a perfectly located accommodation for such a stroll. The building's exterior had a nostalgic "Showa era" vibe, and instead of card keys, rooms used traditional keys. However, there were no issues with safety or convenience; in fact, it felt charmingly retro and emotional. As an onsen ryokan, they provided essential hospitality such as air purifiers in rooms, choices of women's yukata styles, and well-stocked amenities—all sufficiently satisfying. One particularly thoughtful touch was in the large public bath area: each shoe locker had room numbers written on them so guests could place their footwear in their designated locker without confusion—a small detail that offered great peace of mind since mix-ups often happen elsewhere. I would love to visit again during another season! Thank you very much!

    It was a great accommodation.

Stayed during Golden Week. The view from the room was beautiful! The bath was also very relaxing. The meals had a wide variety and were very filling, which satisfied my sons, a new working adult and a university student. One thing to mention is that breakfast was served in a private dining room on the first floor, but towards the end of our meal, we could hear sweeping sounds from the next room with a broom... It made us feel uncomfortable as if we were being rushed to leave. I understand it might have been busy, but I wish they had waited to clean. After check-out, we appreciated being able to leave our car while visiting Toshogu Shrine.

A hotel you’ll want to make your regular accommodation in Nikko

The hotel may not stand out as extraordinary, but it offers a calm and comfortable atmosphere overall. While it is a historic hotel, the rooms have been renovated and are very clean. The view from the room, with lush greenery and a river in contrast, is truly relaxing. Meals were centered around yuba and served in just the right portions. The Onsen features a mist sauna, and the view from the open-air bath was beautiful. Thank you!

    Onsen Stays near Nikko Toshogu

I have been a repeat guest at this property near Nikko Toshogu Shrine for many years. There is parking available on the premises, and a shuttle service from Nikko Station is provided. Although the property is quite old, the rooms have been renovated and are comfortable. Winter in Nikko is cold, but the room heating works well, ensuring a warm stay. The meals are hearty and delicious. In the dining area, there are hot carpets on the floor, keeping your feet warm while you dine. The large public bath offers a spacious area to enjoy, with an open-air bath, dry sauna, and mist sauna, allowing you to fully enjoy the onsen experience. This is a traditional full-service onsen property, but it is not overly luxurious and is reasonably priced. It is a well-balanced property that I recommend. If I had one request, it would be to provide two yukatas per day for men, instead of just one.

A property that makes you want to visit again

Nikko sightseeing was usually just a day trip, but since I had my elderly mother with me, we stayed for two nights in Nikko. We chose the property solely based on the room configuration (Japanese-Western style room for three people), but we are grateful for the surprisingly excellent service. A shuttle is available, so we were able to travel comfortably from the station to the property. The main attraction, Toshogu Shrine, was within walking distance (though there were many stairs, which was unavoidable), making it very convenient. Choosing Nikko in winter came with some apprehension, but we were blessed with calm, cold weather throughout (we even saw snowflakes at Toshogu Shrine), and we were able to leisurely walk to nearby attractions like the Tamozawa Imperial Villa and Shinko Church. We joined a tour bus departing from in front of the property, enjoyed the snowy scenery of Lake Chuzenji and Senjogahara at higher altitudes, and were fortunate to have a kind driver, making our experience enjoyable. Meals were served in the room, and we appreciated the provision of a table and chairs. The route to the large public bath was easy to understand and safe, which was reassuring. Although the building is not new and cannot fulfill all expectations in terms of facilities, we experienced warm hospitality firsthand. The shuttle driver, the reception staff, the person who carried our luggage, the room attendant, the head chef, and the staff who served our meals all contributed to enhancing the joy of our year-end Christmas trip, making it a journey where we didn't feel the cold. I would like to bring foreign guests here in the future, including for my own repeat visits.

    Overall satisfied, but...

I stayed for one night with a plan that included a special visit to Toshogu Shrine. Although I arrived early in the morning, there was a shuttle from the station to the hotel, and I was able to leave my luggage before check-in, which was helpful. The autumn leaves season had ended, but the view from the room was nice, and it was not an unwalkable distance from Nikko Station. Above all, the attraction was that the World Heritage site was within walking distance. The meals, both breakfast and dinner, were satisfying in taste and quantity. The main special visit included prayers in areas usually inaccessible, many offerings, and the opportunity to purchase sweets that are not available to non-participants, which was very satisfying. The only disappointment was when I requested a taxi reservation from the hotel after the special visit, the young male staff at the front desk (a plump person) clearly showed an attitude of "it's troublesome." It might have been busy during the checkout time when I asked, but I thought it would be better if he learned a bit more about customer service (it was that unpleasant). Eventually, I asked a female staff member after returning to the hotel, and she arranged it immediately, but it was unfortunate that the good impression I had until then quickly faded.

    It was my first visi...

It was my first visit to Nikko in decades. As my spouse and I have become older, we have been using hotels more frequently. It was our first in-room dining experience in a while, and we were very satisfied as we could enjoy our meal at our own pace, with hot dishes served hot and cold dishes served cold. We have come to appreciate the charm of a Japanese-style ryokan once again. One thing that bothered us was the absence of clocks within the hotel. There were none in the changing rooms or the shop, so we had to ask the staff for the time. We wanted to wander around the hotel after our bath, but we were concerned about the time for our meal. It was a bit disappointing.

Meals, service, location, Onsen, completely satisfying with no complaints!

We visited as a slightly larger three-generation travel group and stayed in a special Japanese-Western room. The room was spacious, neat, and pleasing. The layout, which allowed the Western-style beds to be separated by blinds, was convenient, and the double sink was also spacious. The view from the window overlooked the river, and during the day, we enjoyed the sound of the flowing water as background music. The onsen, both indoor and outdoor, was easy to enter. All the meals were delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed autumn specialties like matsutake mushrooms and local specialties like yuba. Despite having somewhat troublesome members in our group, including a child with food allergies, a baby, an elderly person, and a foreigner requiring halal food (not fond of raw food), the staff who served us were very efficient and attentive, ensuring everyone could dine comfortably. We are truly grateful. On the checkout day, we had a taxi booked for 10 a.m. to Senhime, leaving us only an hour to explore from the 9 a.m. opening of the front gate of Toshogu Shrine. However, with precise advice from the staff, we managed to complete our sightseeing and return before 10 a.m. We purchased tickets at the hotel in advance and departed at 8:30 a.m. We lined up at the front gate as early as the school trip students, waiting for it to open. Once it opened, we moved easily through the less crowded Toshogu Shrine, taking commemorative photos while seeing the Three Wise Monkeys, the Main Shrine, the Crying Dragon, and the Sleeping Cat, and even climbing the stairs to see the innermost Okumiya of Toshogu Shrine, all with time to spare. We left the hotel very satisfied, having benefited from its prime location closest to Toshogu Shrine. (The day before, my 80-year-old mother also walked to and from Toshogu Shrine with her grandchild. It's really close, as you only need to cross the main road via an underpass.) If we have another opportunity to visit Nikko, we would definitely like to come again.

Due to the tourist season, the road from Tobu Nikko Station to the property was heavily congested, and it was impossible to estimate the arrival time of the shuttle bus. We had no choice but to walk for about an hour to reach the property. It was honestly tough as we had a 0-year-old and a 3-year-old child with us. The staff at the property were very kind and quickly let us into the room. The meals had a wide variety of dishes, and we were quite full. The large public bath was well-cleaned, but the chlorine smell was strong. On the way back, we were taken to the station by bus. We had to unload our luggage (two suitcases and a stroller) ourselves, and due to the chlorine smell, we rated our satisfaction as 3.

    A Little Autumn Leaf Viewing

We decided to take a quick trip to Nikko with my husband and stayed at this Property. It took us 1 hour and 40 minutes from JR Nikko Station to arrive. We were soothed by the hospitality, cuisine, and the semi-open-air bath in the Room at this Hotel. The Room was clean, and the food was so delicious that we were completely impressed. We talked about wanting to come again with my husband on our way home.

Revisit: Staying in Nikko for Yuba

I stayed for one night and two days on a weekday. The person who attended to us during meals was a woman with a very elegant and lovely smile. Even when I mistakenly went to the dining area an hour early for breakfast, she responded graciously. You can purchase most souvenirs within the facility, the meals are delicious, and the room has a sense of cleanliness. If I were to point out something that caught my attention, it would be that the showerhead in the large public bath is a bit old. That being said, when staying in Nikko for the purpose of enjoying yuba, I always choose this Ryokan.
