A wonderful Ryokan where you can feel the staff’s sincere effort through their kind hospitality.

This is a wonderful Ryokan where you can truly feel that everyone is working hard to provide great hospitality. The meals are delicious, and the portions are so generous they may feel like more than enough. You can sense the effort put into every aspect of the stay.\nHowever, the service is not as polished as that of a top-tier Ryokan, so if you expect the level of a luxury Ryokan, you may notice some rough edges.\nOverall, it is a very good Ryokan.

It was the best birthday ever.

All the hotels are excellent. The rooms and the large public bath were wonderful, but what surprised me most was the luxurious dinner. We had been planning a winter vacation, but due to my son's fever, we had to cancel the trip and were feeling down. So, we decided to plan a sudden trip to Izu for my husband's birthday celebration. Even though it was a last-minute reservation made the day before, they prepared a birthday cake for us and two lovely staff members sang a BIRTHDAY song for him, which made my husband very happy. Thank you also for guiding us to such a beautiful room! It became an unforgettable memory for us.

    It was a good accommodation.

Second stay at Sekka-kai. It is a truly wonderful accommodation, but I would like to share two points of feedback: ① I stayed in a room with an open-air bath. The bath was already filled upon entering the room, which made me wonder if it was left from the previous guest. I would prefer the bath to be filled after check-in. ② There was also a shower, but the water pressure was weak, making it difficult to wash my hair and body. Other than that, the meals were excellent, and the staff's service was outstanding. I heard there will be renovations in March next year, so I look forward to staying again. I had a relaxing and comfortable time. Thank you for your hospitality!

    Unfortunately!

We were looking forward to the plan where fireworks could be seen from the room, but nearly half of the display was obscured by other buildings. At check-in, while car guidance was provided, staff walked ahead quickly without assisting with luggage or guiding us to the entrance. During dinner, staff were singing in their native language and explanations about the menu were unclear, suggesting a need for retraining in customer service. The shower in the room had weak water pressure and took a long time to produce hot water, making hair washing time-consuming. The door handle at the washing area next to the open-air bath was hardened and stuck due to mineral deposits, making it impossible to open or close properly. We go on family trips several times a year, but this is our first experience with a ryokan where the accommodation cost did not match its quality—very disappointing.

    I was surprised.

The guest room with a private open-air Onsen bath is now considered essential, and it seems this facility was added later. The open-air Onsen bath on the third floor offers a spacious and refreshing view of the ocean. However, the pool and other areas along the coastline below are completely visible, so some privacy screens would be necessary. Although the bathtub should have been filled with Onsen water, it was only one-third full and covered in floating debris. This was quite disappointing. When I called the front desk to address this issue, they said it was normal. Shocked by their response, I decided not to argue further and cleaned it myself before refilling it with water from the source, which was clean. It seemed like proper cleaning had not been done beforehand. But why was there only one-third of water? It turned out that water kept draining from the tub—within about an hour, more than half of a full tub would disappear! This was truly surprising. While I felt deeply disappointed by this experience, my spirits were lifted during mealtime as staff explained each dish with cheerful smiles and served an abundance of food that made dining enjoyable. I felt sorry for not being able to finish everything due to its sheer volume. Despite various issues during my stay, thank you very much for your hospitality!

    Onsen is the best!

I chose this Hotel because I wanted my mother, who has some physical disabilities, to enjoy the Onsen freely, and I was looking for a barrier-free Room. It was great that we could move smoothly with a wheelchair from the entrance to the Room. First of all, being able to relax in the Onsen on the 5th floor while enjoying a view of the ocean at my preferred temperature without worrying about time or privacy was an irreplaceable moment of bliss. After having breakfast, I reduced the water level by half and enjoyed it as a foot bath while admiring the scenery again... Having an Onsen in your own Room allows you to enjoy so many things. The meals were also fantastic. Everything was delicious and served in generous portions that were almost too much to finish. The local kinmedai sushi was absolutely exquisite! Here are some points I noticed: My mother had difficulty standing up from low surfaces and used a bed instead; however, it was too high, making her feel like she might fall off. Additionally, there wasn’t anything sturdy for her to hold onto when sitting up, so assisting her felt quite nerve-wracking at times. It would be helpful if there were optional bed rails or similar equipment available. Also, I felt that the dining table in our Japanese-style Room seemed disproportionately large compared to its size—perhaps something slightly smaller would be more suitable. Lastly (though this may be due to structural constraints), combining the sink area with what is currently an overly spacious toilet space might make it more convenient overall. I hope to visit again during a less busy season for another relaxing stay. Thank you very much!

The bath and meals were excellent!

The scenic bath and meals were very satisfying! The open-air bath in the Room was a bit tricky to adjust the temperature, but I could relax and enjoy it!

    ふらっと一人旅

    Unfortunately.

I recently stayed for one night and two days. Having heard from my parents, who previously stayed here, that it was a wonderful experience, I had high expectations. However, my stay turned out to be nothing but disappointing. Here are some of the issues I encountered: - No explanation of the dishes during both dinner and breakfast (there was no menu provided either). - No explanation about Diamond Member benefits during dinner; even when I asked the staff, they were unclear. - The placement of the rice bowl and soup bowl was reversed (rice bowl on the right side and soup bowl on the left). - During dinner, when serving Kinmedai shabu-shabu, not all fires were lit before the staff left. - About 1cm of broth remained in the chawanmushi served at dinner. - There was an insect on one of the plates during dinner. - Allergy information was not shared properly among staff members. - The shower in our room took a long time to produce hot water. The issue with allergies is particularly concerning as it could be life-threatening if mishandled. I was shocked that such critical information wasn’t communicated properly. The only positive aspect of my stay was the excellent service provided by your shuttle service driver; unfortunately, I didn’t catch their name. Honestly speaking, I feel that your accommodation’s quality does not match its price point. Regrettably, I will not be returning again in future stays here.

    Quite a compromise.

A property that competes solely on the excellent materials such as the breathtaking view of waves crashing below, fresh seafood caught from the sea, and abundant onsen with free-flowing water. It's nice to have plenty of fresh abalone, Ise lobster, and sashimi served, allowing you to cook them to your liking on a tabletop roaster or with solid fuel. This way, personal taste preferences don't matter. If you're going this far in simplicity, it might be more comfortable for guests if you don't require the nervous staff member to explain that "this is kamaboko" or "wasabi pickles" (since it's written in the menu), but instead focus on arranging plates smoothly by considering their position and space or ensuring ordered drinks are delivered correctly. It can be nerve-wracking when they almost take away a plate you'll use next or forget to serve a dish. Although they're earnest and doing their best, so there's no reason to get angry. The room is said to be barrier-free; however, it's oddly designed with an ordinary Japanese-style room featuring floor chairs and tables suddenly attached with a large washbasin. Are guests supposed to move from wheelchairs onto floor chairs? The bath on the balcony was well-designed with ample space in both the bathtub and washing area for comfort.

    Satisfied.

The meals were excellent, and the dining area was very relaxing and satisfying. The open-air bath was wonderful, with the sound of the waves adding to the experience. Next time, I would like to stay in a Room with an open-air bath.

It became a wonderful memory at the end of the year.

Utilized a Japanese-style room with an open-air bath. At the end of December, I thought the open-air bath would be cold, but it was a nice bath that kept me warm. The Onsen was directly sourced and very warm. I relaxed while looking at the sea. The meals were also delicious. I ended up eating too much. The fish dishes were very tasty, but the two-hour meal felt a bit long. Since we had a 2-year-old child, the long meal was challenging, but the private room was helpful. The Onsen egg was exquisite! Highly recommended. During the busy year-end period, many of the staff were from overseas, but they always served us with a smile. It was an enjoyable trip. Thank you very much.

    Review is incorrect. Be careful.

Our family used this Facility at the end of the year, and it was problematic. We made a Reservation just before the end of the year, knowing the price would be high, but when we were shown to the Room, futons were already spread out all over, leaving no space to step or enjoy family time. We gave up and used the large public bath, only to receive a call from my wife. Upon closer inspection, there were two spots of feces beside the bathtub. We've used various Ryokans, but this was our first experience like this. We understand the staff shortage, but the staff's response afterward was terrible, with insincere greetings just to get through the situation. No matter how prosperous it is with inbound tourism, such a Ryokan should never be used. The culture and goodness of Japan are being conveyed incorrectly to foreigners. I also doubt whether IKYU is truly evaluating these places. By the way, I am a Diamond member and have often used IKYU, but I will reconsider from now on.

    Family Trip

Dinner was served in large portions. For the grill, we had abalone and Ise lobster. We were grateful and impressed that they prepared a boat platter for just the two of us, featuring simmered kinmedai, a representative dish of Inatori Onsen. The quantity and volume were very satisfying, and the performance was top-notch. However, I was concerned about the temperature of the dishes. They weren't cold, but I think they would have been more delicious if they were a bit warmer. Despite the busy year-end period, I felt that everyone was doing their best. I am full of gratitude. Additionally, the women's bath changing room in the morning was littered with trash, and I didn't feel a sense of cleanliness. It's a bit disappointing...

Very satisfied. However, the Room is a bit

This time, I stayed for one night using the Diamond Member benefits. Due to my schedule, I couldn't take advantage of early check-in or late check-out, but getting an abalone sashimi dish was fantastic. Except for the Room being a bit old-fashioned, the food and bath were absolutely excellent.

We hope to improve the meal service.

The Facility and Onsen were satisfactory. However, I would like to see improvements in the cuisine. Firstly, there are too many tasks for the guests. The system where guests have to handle all the cooking, such as hot pots and grilled dishes, is overwhelming. The cooking results in amateurish outcomes, which is a problem before even considering the taste. For instance, I was unsure how long to cook the foil-wrapped dish, and it ended up completely burnt. While it might be enjoyable to finish one dish, being responsible for multiple main dishes makes it unclear whether we are receiving or providing the service. Additionally, there was no initial explanation for the shabu-shabu, and I ended up eating it as sashimi. Furthermore, the wine I ordered was brought unopened, and after requesting it to be opened, I was handed a corkscrew after a long wait. I had to insist on having it opened, which took nearly an hour, and I couldn't finish it. The glasses provided had no stems, making it difficult to appreciate the crisp taste of the white wine, which was disappointing. There was also a dish that was not served. In other reviews, it was mentioned that the service from those not proficient in Japanese was lacking. However, I believe it's not about understanding Japanese but rather about reviewing the serving rules and service manual. In this day and age, it's not unusual for foreigners to work, and their efforts to use difficult Japanese with a smile were commendable. However, since explaining the dishes is challenging, I hope the Ryokan can use menus or explanation sheets creatively. There was a simple menu, but it was placed at the edge of the table, and I noticed it at the end. I think it's wrong to place the burden of understanding on the guests. While it's understandable that efficiency leads to all dishes being served at once, I hope for a more relaxed dining experience. It was disappointing as I was looking forward to the cuisine, which seemed to be a highlight. Additionally, the amenities were mixed up between male and female, which was unfortunate.

    More satisfying than luxury Stays

We visited as our accommodation for the second night of our trip to Izu. We were worried because the IKYU Review rating was low, but since the reason for the low rating was the staff's service, we visited with expectations for the food and the room. The result was a great success! The room was a Japanese-style room with a bed, offering a spectacular view of the sea right in front. The room's toilet was a state-of-the-art shower toilet. The washroom and bath were also renovated and clean, and it was innovative to have Onsen water in the clawfoot bathtub (we didn't use it because the large public bath was wonderful). The view from the large public bath exceeded expectations, and the water temperature was just right. There was also a cold water machine right outside, allowing us to replenish with cold water. The essential food was a parade of "dishes worth traveling from Tokyo to eat." Especially the whole fried Kasago fish dipped in Tosa vinegar was a taste that moved us. The simmered Kinmedai was also a star-level dish. The boat sashimi platter and fisherman's grill were beyond expectations, and even though we were full, we finished everything. I think the use of all fresh ingredients further enhanced the dishes. The self-service Onsen eggs were also delicious, and it was a series of delightful surprises. The day before, we stayed at a long-established Ryokan in Atami, and the food seemed like Kaiseki that could be eaten in Tokyo with a bit more fish, but the staff's response was attentive. This property didn't have that comfort, but the kindness of the simple staff was conveyed. Since there are many foreigners due to a labor shortage, to some extent, it can't be helped. More than that, I was very satisfied to be able to relax in a clean room with a view of the sea and eat fresh and delicious fish dishes. We were also grateful for the shuttle service, which we used both ways. Until now, I have often been disappointed because the photos on IKYU's property introduction were different from reality, but this property was far more beautiful than the photos, and the room was wonderfully good.

    The Onsen was very pleasant!

You can enjoy a panoramic view of the sea from the lounge and the room, and it was very beautiful to see the Izu sea up close. The cuisine was also delicious, offering a variety of seafood unique to Izu in various ways. The room was clean and spacious, with a sofa in the back, allowing relaxation either on the tatami or the sofa, which was nice. The onsen had just the right temperature, making it a pleasant experience. The staff provided courteous guidance, allowing for a leisurely stay. It was a property I would like to visit again.

It's a shame because the food was delicious.

The food was delicious but there was so much that we couldn't finish it, and most of it was placed on the table from the start, causing the sashimi and meat to dry out. The explanation of the dishes was given by a foreigner, so we couldn't understand it at all, and there were many mistakes. It was quite disappointing, especially since the food was so delicious.
