    It was a wonderful stay.

Some areas are old, but the Hotel was very well maintained throughout. The staff’s attentiveness was wonderful. The interior feels like a maze, which was fun. The walk to the Onsen was enjoyable every time. Both meals were extremely delicious. The elementary school child’s meal was also very luxurious. Especially breakfast—rather than focusing only on the number of dishes like many other hotels, I could really feel the Hotel’s commitment to quality, and it was an excellent breakfast. Of course I assume there is ventilation, but smoke from grilling dried fish filled the dining area and made the restaurant quite smoky. I felt it would be comfortable even for three generations traveling together. The Hotel’s social media, website, in-house brochures, and posted notices are all very easy to read—I found myself reading them without thinking. The restaurant clearly displays information about the food as well, which helped me understand the Hotel’s dedication even more. From our Room we could see the sea, mountains, and a wonderful sunset—it was a delightful trip to Yamaguchi.

It became a wonderful summer vacation memory.

I visited here as a child, and this time I came back to my hometown and stayed with my son and my parents. The Hotel has been beautifully renovated, so it felt quite different, but I enjoyed the nostalgic kawara soba and visited the lounge for the first time. We were able to relax together as a family, and even with just one night we were completely satisfied. The bath in the Room was great, and the private open-air bath was also amazing. The meals were delicious as well, and I would love to visit again. Thank you very much.

The meals were good, but the Room was really disappointing.

The meals were great! (Sashimi, beef hot pot, dessert—both fugu and sake were excellent.) However, the Room felt like the kind you’d stay in on a school trip. I’d like you to include photos of the washbasin and toilet in advance as well.

Timing of Service During a Kaiseki Meal

I was surprised when the next dish was brought out before I had finished eating. It seemed they were serving everything with the intention of having the meal completed within an hour.

    Penthouse Private Island

I stayed in the Room listed in the title above. When I opened the door, there was a white spiral staircase. Upstairs, there were three large windows with a view of the sea and islands in the distance. From the balcony, I could see the mountains as well. The views were wonderful. In the early morning, I went out onto the balcony and enjoyed a morning coffee while watching the sun rise. The bath in the Room is not an Onsen, but it was spacious and had a large window overlooking the balcony, which made it feel very open. The Hotel’s public bath was great, especially the open-air bath. Breakfast was buffet-style and everything was delicious. The grilled dried horse mackerel was freshly cooked and excellent. The rolled omelet (dashimaki tamago) was also warm and freshly made. The dessert pudding was tasty as well. As for my overall rating of this Room, I really liked it. However, there was one small thing about the balcony that bothered me slightly, so I deducted one point.

Wishing you continued growth through improved service.

The meals were a good portion for older guests and were delicious, but despite being a fine Hotel with an Onsen, there was no rest area or lounge, and there were no complimentary items such as bottled water in the Room refrigerator. Most other Hotels provide such spaces, so I feel these are necessary to improve the rating—just my two cents.

    We’re sorry to hear that.

I think there are security issues. I won’t use it again. The service and the Room were good, but I recommend not using the open-air bath in the Room at night, and the indoor bath had no blinds so it was completely visible. Since it was far from the main building, I felt a bit scared. It was very disappointing.

As we couldn’t book Hanatsubaki, we stayed in the main building. The bed was comfortable and the Room was spacious and relaxing, but there was only a shower booth, and Santoka Bath was quite far away. It was disappointing to give up on a morning bath. Breakfast was delicious.

    Highly Satisfied!

All rooms are clean and well-maintained, with spacious baths featuring excellent water quality and temperature. Meals were perfectly portioned, and even during a multiple night stay, the menu was completely different each day. It would have been nice to have a coffee maker in the breakfast area, but the breakfast itself was simple, homemade, and delicious. The male staff member with glasses was very kind and attentive to my mother, making this accommodation a place we definitely want to visit again.

The Torafugu full course is exceptional.

(Targeting the cuisine) I visited for the full course of natural tiger puffer fish. It was the most delicious compared to any other puffer fish course I've had in Tokyo or the Keihanshin area throughout my life. The student part-timer who attended to us was very attentive, making our dining experience pleasant. On the other hand, breakfast at the buffet on the first floor of the main building was disappointing. There were few options, and almost no warm dishes. Despite having many seats available, it felt dim overall, and only seats by the window seemed comfortable for dining. Although I booked a detached room to enjoy a quiet stay, it was frustrating that even with few guests in the breakfast area, children's voices made it noisy. Just like accommodation conditions are divided accordingly, areas for guests with children and those without should be completely separated. (Room) The room looked much older than in photos. There was only one bath towel and one face towel per person; moreover, one of them had multiple stains resembling dirty foundation marks—how could this go unnoticed during preparation? One reason I chose a detached room with an open-air bath named "Garyubai" is because I don't want to use public baths; hence paying higher rates intentionally—but there wasn’t even a body towel provided! When I asked at reception how we were supposed to wash ourselves without one since they weren’t placed in rooms as standard amenities—the response made no sense: "We don’t always have them ready." Amenities were subpar: cosmetics included only cleansing lotion/toner/emulsion from Sekkisei brand; shampoo inside bathrooms seemed cheap quality too while toothbrushes/hairbrushes appeared low-grade plastic material... Nowadays accommodations charging similar prices offer richer amenities featuring better designs/materials overall! Inside refrigerators sat merely single bottles of water each guest received upon check-in alongside dimly lit vanity mirrors unsuitable applying makeup properly—magnifying mirrors hidden awkwardly among coffee supplies added inconvenience further still lacking pajamas replaced solely yukata robes whose belts bore creases suggesting prior usage unwashed post-previous stays leaving discomfort behind altogether. (Other aspects) Some staff members displayed extremely poor customer service attitudes whereas accessing detached accommodations required walking long distances exposed outdoors under cold weather conditions along open corridors devoid protective walls entirely unpleasant experiences altogether worsened absence stationed personnel guarding entryways mornings left vulnerable wandering individuals suspected tourists nearby creating unsafe feelings ultimately ranking worst hotels ever stayed within personal opinion never returning future visits guaranteed avoidance assured permanently henceforth

    I had a relaxing time.

We stayed in a separate accommodation during our trip with our dog. The room was spacious, clean, and very comfortable. The open-air bath was large and allowed us to relax and warm up thoroughly. The tiger pufferfish sashimi we had for dinner was thickly sliced and absolutely delicious. We would love to stay here again.

    Relaxing and comfortable stay!

Stayed in a barrier-free detached house with an Onsen. The room featured elegant and calming interiors, allowing us to relax like in a private villa with in-room dining and a semi-open-air bath. The food was delicious, and the additional order of kawara soba was excellent. The warm hospitality made us feel truly glad we came.

    Unfortunately

The shared toilet in the Hotel had cobwebs. The Room we were initially assigned to had a bad odor from the entrance, and there were cobwebs on the air conditioner louvers. The Hotel offered another Room, which was better, but it was very dusty. Despite requesting proper cleaning, no improvement was made. The dining area also clearly showed uncleaned floors and chairs. Extremely disappointed—will not stay here again.

    A Perfect Stay

Thank you for the wonderful experience. The meals were delicious, so much so that we ordered additional dishes. The freshly grilled fish at breakfast was also delightful. Everyone was kind, attentive, and their warm smiles were truly comforting. Thank you very much!

It was great that we could all have dinner together in the Room, even with family staying in a separate Room. It was helpful since we had my mother with us, who has difficulty walking. The carefully prepared dishes using local ingredients were delicious. However, it was disappointing that the temperature of the open-air bath in the Room was low and it took time to warm up.

    Satisfied with everything except cleanliness.

This is my second stay in the Hanatsubaki Room. While everything was fine last time, this time I noticed many long hairs and large dust particles on the flooring, which was concerning. The food was delicious, and the Onsen in the room was comfortable. I used another room as well, and since that one was properly cleaned, it might have been a one-time issue. Overall, I am satisfied. Thank you very much!

    It was a satisfying stay.

I visited here by taking several trains, eager to enjoy delicious pufferfish. Despite contacting them well in advance, they kindly came to pick me up at the station, which was very helpful. On the way back, I used the shuttle bus to Shin-Shimonoseki Station, which is very convenient for those coming from afar. I stayed in a detached accommodation and enjoyed a warm stay with features like floor heating. However, the outdoor corridor leading to the main building was quite cold. Although I was a bit worried after reading some reviews, everything was clean and tidy. The bath in the room had just the right temperature as well. The amenities included Predia and Sekkisei products, which were comfortable to use without any issues. I also used the lounge until 6 PM; while it felt slightly dusty overall, I enjoyed a small amount of Dassai sake and was satisfied with it. The pufferfish course meal was delicious and thoroughly enjoyable—it made my trip worthwhile! The staff member who attended us provided excellent service as well. Breakfast featured an especially wide variety of vegetables that were tasty; dishes like grilled horse mackerel and rolled omelets were also delightful. Thanks to all the staff's hospitality, my stay turned out to be highly satisfying! Thank you very much!

    We thoroughly enjoyed the fugu.

I don't drive, so transportation is important when choosing a property, but the shuttle service to Shin-Shimonoseki Station was convenient. I have fugu once a year, but since the nearby shop closed, I decided to take the plunge and plan a trip to Shimonoseki, the home of fugu, this year. The tessa was about three times thicker here, which surprised me. The karaage and fugu chiri were also delicious, and I was full, but I managed to eat everything. The staff provided service at just the right timing. The room had an open-air bath in a separate building, and since it also had a shower, there was no need to go to the large public bath. I was very satisfied with the fugu experience.

    This was my second stay.

I stayed at the property once a few years ago, and I was surprised to see how beautiful it has become. My elderly mother was also very pleased. The meals were carefully prepared using ingredients from Yamaguchi Prefecture and were delicious. We couldn't resist adding kawara soba as well. The indoor footwear was geta, which was a bit difficult for my elderly mother. If possible, we would appreciate slippers as well. The staff at the entrance of the large bath prepared a chair for my mother, and their thoughtfulness was greatly appreciated. I will visit again with my mother. Thank you for your hospitality during the busy New Year period.

Dinner was served in the room, allowing us to enjoy it without any reservations. Although the breakfast buffet did not have a large variety, the staff was pleasant, and we enjoyed a delicious meal. The room's bath had a large tub and was comfortable, and the open-air bath in the large public bath offered a beautiful view of the starry sky. The room was log cabin-style, and although I was worried it might be cold, the underfloor heating kept it warm, and I slept comfortably. However, the outdoor corridor from the room to the large public bath and the corridor to the dining area were somewhat long, and with masks, ornaments, sculptures, and even a shrine, it felt a bit eerie.

    Kawatana Onsen Healing Journey

I stayed at Kawara Onsen Otafuku, the hidden gem of Shimonoseki. In conclusion, it was an excellent property. The onsen, guest rooms, and customer service were all very satisfying. However, the disappointing part was the Mouri Banquet dinner, which did not satisfy in terms of both quantity and quality. (The breakfast buffet was delicious though...) Next time I visit Shimonoseki, I would like to stay again but try a different dinner menu.

    Thank you very much.

The fugu course and hirezake were very delicious. The bath and the building exuded a sense of good taste everywhere, allowing us to have a very enjoyable time. I would definitely like to visit again. Thank you very much!

    The worst.

Upon entering the room, there was an unventilated smell. The wallpaper was peeling, and the sliding doors wouldn't close properly and would suddenly open, which was frightening. The indoor bath had a musty smell, and there were a lot of dead insects on the window frame. The built-in dog cage was full of bite marks, and since it was wooden, I got a splinter. The door was so warped that it was hard to close, and the floor was peeling. It made me wonder if this room had been unused. Since it was a trip with a dog and there was supposed to be a dog run, we went to check it out, but ??? Is this the dog run??? It was overgrown with grass and inaccessible, and seemed completely unmanaged. I travel a lot, but honestly, I never want to stay here again.
