    We stay here every year.

    You can enjoy the gentle Yubatake Onsen in the calm, refined atmosphere of a long-established Ryokan. The food is delicious, but above all, the staff are exceptionally kind. Every visit leaves me impressed by their outstanding service. At check-out, the gracious proprietress sees you off with great care, and you can truly feel how her attentiveness is reflected throughout the entire team.

    Overall, I was satis...

    Overall, I was satisfied for the price. Because a family member has difficulty walking, I asked for any assistance possible, and I really appreciated being given a Room close to the elevator. The meal also surprised me—in a good way—with so much meat in the sukiyaki that it was hard to finish (though we did!). The Facility was average, and the Onsen was great, but it was disappointing that one of the two open-air baths was lukewarm. As for service at dinner, the attendant explained the menu while talking over the ingredients and started cooking the meat without asking our preferred timing, which shocked me. (We like to drink slowly and start with appetizers at our own pace.) When I pointed this out, they seemed to respond as if “then do it yourselves,” without understanding why we felt uncomfortable. When I also asked them not to talk over the food, they went silent; perhaps offended, they provided no further explanations even after finishing the sukiyaki. (There was no written menu, so we couldn’t tell what each dish was.) Aside from these two points, it was an excellent Accommodation with nothing else to complain about.

    It was very relaxing.

    It was my first stay in 20 years, and it was a truly wonderful experience. While the property shows the charm of age, everything was meticulously cleaned, and there were no issues at all. Two things especially stood out to me. First, the staff service: they never stopped smiling, and their attentive hospitality—anticipating guests’ needs in a pleasant way—was impressive. The international staff were also well trained, and I could really feel the pride and strength of this long-established Ryokan. Second, the cuisine: rather than being overly formal or delicately subtle, it was thoughtfully crafted with a strong focus on quality within budget, offering a well-balanced menu with clear contrasts in flavor. It paired wonderfully with both sake and rice, and I could truly feel their spirit of hospitality. Thank you for taking such good care of us.

    It was an enjoyable Onsen trip with classmates.

    The staff provided very polite and kind hospitality, making it a delightful Onsen trip with friends. Although we all live in Gunma Prefecture, we had never enjoyed Kusatsu Onsen so leisurely before, and it was a truly relaxing and fulfilling experience. The meals were slightly too large for us elderly guests, and we felt sorry for leaving some behind. It would have been nice if there was an option for smaller portions.

    Girls' Trip

    Passing through the Kusatsu Onsen gate and avoiding the central area, we quickly arrived near Yubatake. Although it was very crowded, you can still drive slowly to get there. After checking in, tea and sweets were prepared in the room, and umbrellas were kindly lent when heading out. Even after walking around all day, the accommodation's location near Yubatake made it easy to return without getting lost. The large public bath was impressive; the indoor bath was hot but warmed us to the core, while the open-air and cave baths were pleasantly warm for a relaxing soak. We only had breakfast this time, but everything was delicious and completely satisfying—a luxurious Japanese-style breakfast like a mini kaiseki meal. After check-out, they stored our luggage for a while longer and even provided shuttle service to the parking lot located further away at departure. Everything about this trip was perfect! I hope to visit again with my family next time. Thank you so much!

    Looking for something new?

    Close to Yubatake, convenient for evening and morning walks, yet located in a quiet area. The building and facilities are quite old with many unnecessary parts. The room in the upper residence consisted of a 10-tatami main room + 2.5-tatami sunroom + 6-tatami adjoining room + 4.5-tatami tea room, but we only used the main 10-tatami room (it might be better to repurpose other rooms, such as turning them into bedrooms). The bath temperature was cooler compared to other Ryokan baths; it could be slightly higher. However, the staff at the front desk and attendants were very attentive and provided excellent service. Dinnerware seemed a bit worn out, but the food itself was very delicious.

    Amazing!!!

    This was my first trip to Kusatsu, so I carefully researched various options and chose this Ryokan. From the Facility to the service, and even the distance to Yubatake, everything was perfect. I fully enjoyed Kusatsu with great satisfaction!!! I would love to stay here again when I visit Kusatsu casually! Thank you very much!!!

    Noise from outside can be heard.

    The location was convenient, so it might be unavoidable. However, perhaps due to the room's position, I stayed in a Room on the 2nd floor facing the street, and I couldn't sleep because loud conversations from the street echoed late into the night. There were only shoji screens without soundproof glass... It would have been better if there were additional shutters or curtains.

    The dinner was very delicious at this traditional Ryokan.

    It was a calm and traditional accommodation with a classic atmosphere. The facility is old but well-maintained. Dinner was very delicious, with a wide variety of dishes, leaving us fully satisfied. Many dishes were elaborate and had excellent flavors. Since the room has tatami flooring, it might be better to remove slippers outside the dining room. The bath was spacious, open for long hours, and we enjoyed it multiple times. Being close to Yubatake, we took an evening stroll in yukata to enjoy the night illumination. The foreign staff members were polite and worked diligently, which was impressive. It's unfortunate that Wi-Fi is not available in the room; however, it wasn't an issue for us personally. While many ryokans have raised their prices significantly, this one offers fair pricing and great value for money. We hope you continue maintaining the quality of your meals moving forward!

    A place where time seems to have stopped

    It was a space where time seemed to have stopped, for better or worse. Although old, it felt well-maintained and clean. The entrance hall was traditional. The room had no auto-lock or even wifi. The design of the emergency flashlight was nostalgic, and I couldn't help but pick it up. Inside, there were TOSHIBA batteries (which worked perfectly). There was also a rotary dial internal phone, which was still in operation. It was a property with a retro, or perhaps Showa-era, atmosphere, quite rich in character.

    It was a wonderful Stays.

    I used it for a trip with my wife. The location was excellent and the staff service was wonderful. We only had breakfast because we wanted to try different foods, but honestly, the breakfast was quite ordinary. I think it would have been fine with No Meals Included, so I plan to do that next time.

    It is a good Stays, but

    The location is excellent, and the attention to service, facilities, and the shuttle service to the ski resort is wonderful, providing a sense of Japanese hospitality that is comforting. However, the main hostess who attended to us had no smile at all, leaving an impression of being either angry or emotionless, lacking the warmth expected of a Ryokan, and giving off a cold impression as if being looked down upon. The overall service within the Property is of very high quality, so I believe it would be even better if this aspect were improved.

    First, upon arriving...

    First, upon arriving at the Hotel, I felt intimidated by the gloominess and unfriendliness of the front desk staff and the person in charge of moving the car. There was no smile at all. I wished they had responded with a bit more smile and engaged in casual conversation. Although I understand that the building is old (the tatami in the Room was creaky), the futon was extremely heavy. The bath was good as it was Kusatsu Onsen. The food had some dry and hard rice, making me wonder when it was cooked. Among the staff, there were some foreigners and Japanese who provided good service, so I don't think all the service was bad, but the first impression was severely affected by the front desk staff. I won't be repeating my stay.
