    Not good value for money. We recommend booking without an in-room open-air bath and without dinner.

    It had been a while since I stayed in a Japanese-style Room, and sleeping on a futon left me tired. The Room is so small that you can’t even fit a sofa, though it does have a private open-air bath. However, the water temperature is controlled by a timer, and the water heater is placed next to the tub, releasing exhaust fumes into the bathroom—very disappointing. On the other hand, the staff service was excellent. The property is near the lakeside and faces part of the Biwaichi route with fairly heavy traffic; opening the window can be quite noisy. I think it’s better to avoid Hotels and Ryokan in Nagahama.

    I chose this property based on a family stay 30 years ago, but the Facility felt outdated and the meals were not refined, so I deeply regretted choosing it. Seeing IKYU feature this Onsen seriously undermined my trust in IKYU’s selections—I can no longer rely on them.

    My spouse and I stayed for one night starting July 19. From the pickup at the station to sightseeing guidance after checkout, your attentive hospitality and thoughtful care made our stay truly comfortable. Thank you very much. The teppanyaki dinner course delighted both our eyes and our taste buds, and the chef’s enjoyable conversation made the evening even better—we left feeling full and in great spirits. We hope to visit again during a pleasant season. With sincere gratitude!

    The courteous service was excellent.

    Everyone who assisted us—the greeter, the dinner staff, and the breakfast staff—was wonderful. We also enjoyed the bath in our Room. For dinner, we had the certified Omi beef kaiseki course. It was delicious overall, but it was a shame that the meat for the hot-plate grill was a little tough. I think it might be better served thinly sliced. For the beef sukiyaki hot pot, we preferred plain white rice, so we asked to have it instead of seasoned rice. We really appreciated the thoughtful service from our dinner attendant. In particular, it was great that they kept up with us even though we eat quickly.

    You’ll be truly impressed by our hospitality.

    Thank you for taking such wonderful care of us on our trip to Azuchi Castle Ruins and Chikubu Island. Throughout our stay, we were comforted by everyone’s warm hospitality. What stood out most was the outstanding Shuttle Service! First, you drove us from the Accommodation to Nagahama Port early in the morning for the first cruise to Chikubu Island (which some Accommodations do), but incredibly, you also met us upon our return—timed perfectly to the ferry’s arrival—bringing along our luggage that we had left with you at departure. You then took us straight to Nagahama Station, which made traveling seamless and gave us more time for sightseeing in Nagahama. We truly appreciated it. Because what we chatted about with the attendant during meals was clearly shared among the staff, we felt at ease leaving everything in your hands. We could feel thoughtful attention to detail throughout—something uniquely Japanese—and it reminded us once again of what makes a Japanese Accommodation so special. From the Room upgrade onward, this was a truly happy trip filled with gratitude. Whenever we visit Nagahama again, we will definitely return. Next time, we’d love to spend a more relaxed morning as well. Thank you very much for everything!

    Hamakogetsu Happy Trip

    We were very satisfied with the meals and the Onsen. Above all, everyone on the Accommodation staff was extremely kind and shared many stories with us. In the evening, they took us to see a Hadaka Festival that could only be seen that day, and we had a wonderful experience learning about the four Hikiyama teams and their connection to children’s Kabuki. We also enjoyed friendly交流 with local people, and we are filled with gratitude. Thank you very much.

    They were pleased.

    I made a Reservation as a gift for my daughter and her husband. They were delighted and said it was the best Ryokan they have ever stayed at. The sukiyaki was also very delicious. They were especially moved by the proprietress’s greeting and how everyone saw them off, waving until the car was out of sight. We look forward to visiting again next year. It also made me want to stay here myself on a solo trip.

    The hostess and staff were warm and welcoming throughout our stay, which left a lasting impression. The meals, including Omi beef, were absolutely delicious.     I felt heartfelt hospitality.

    From the warm welcome to the thoughtful hospitality until departure, everything was exceptional. They promptly picked us up by car after a quick call from the nearest station. The check-in process was smooth with no waiting time. The room is not very spacious but comfortable enough to relax and enjoy your stay. Above all, the meals were outstanding—not only delicious but also visually delightful. For dinner, we chose a teppanyaki course, and the chef who prepared our meal shared many local stories and seasonal topics while cooking, making it an enjoyable experience throughout. There were also special services for children, showing great attention to detail. Breakfast was satisfying in both quantity and taste as well. Having stayed at various onsen ryokans across different regions, this is definitely a place I would love to visit again! Thank you!

    We stayed at this accommodation as a final trip before the birth of our baby, as my pregnant wife had entered a stable period. Before check-in, we left our suitcase in a coin locker at Nagahama Station and explored the city. Upon arriving at the accommodation, we realized that we had left the suitcase in the locker. While feeling disheartened, a staff member kindly drove us to the station to retrieve it and then provided shuttle service back to the accommodation. The room was clean with excellent amenities that impressed my wife. Both the private bath in our room and the public bath offered stunning views of Lake Biwa. During our stay, I enjoyed both baths five times! Meals were served in a private dining area. Since my wife is pregnant, staff turned on floor heating to keep her warm, which she greatly appreciated. The meals were carefully prepared with considerations for her pregnancy and allergies, allowing us to dine worry-free. The Omi beef was particularly delicious. At dinner's end, the proprietress came by to show care for my pregnant wife—a gesture that warmed our hearts with its hospitality. Breakfast included unlimited refills of drinks and rice; everything was so delicious that both my wife and I indulged quite a bit! Even foreign staff members were very friendly and welcoming. After checking out, we left our luggage at reception while visiting Nagahama Castle using discount tickets provided by staff during dinner—making entry more affordable! After sightseeing, we returned to collect our belongings from the accommodation. As we departed, both the proprietress and their adorable mascot dog Hime-chan saw us off warmly while another staff member provided shuttle service back to Nagahama Station. Thanks to exceptional service and heartfelt hospitality throughout our stay, everything went smoothly without any inconvenience. Thank you for providing such an unforgettable experience!

    From arrival to departure, the hospitality provided by the staff was truly pleasant at this wonderful accommodation. With a limited number of guest rooms, there was hardly any interaction with other guests, allowing us to fully enjoy the bath and meals at our own pace.

    The service provided by the lady who assisted us from arrival until the evening, the hostess, and the gentleman who kindly drove us to and from Kurokabe Square in the morning was excellent. It feels nostalgic to experience such traditional accommodation services, which seem to be gradually disappearing these days.

    Not cost-effective

    The front desk and welcoming service are good. Amenities are average. However, the meals were the worst I’ve ever had. There is no sense of care or passion from the chef. The quality does not match the price. The service from the staff during meals was also subpar. I will not be returning—very disappointing.

    We were able to park our car at Hamakogetsu and enjoy a leisurely walk around Kurokabe Square and Daitsuji Temple. We also received a map of the square, which made it easy to explore while following the map. Thank you for your thoughtfulness. The meals were delicious and very satisfying.

    Frankly, it was disappointing.

    The reviews were very good, so I had high expectations. However, there were many disappointments, which was unfortunate. <Meals> Although it is called a "Ryokan with fine dining," I questioned whether it lived up to that title. Several dishes were already placed on the table before we sat down, which would never happen at a high-end accommodation. There was no explanation for the appetizers that had been set out. Among them was a three-color dumpling dessert, which made me wonder if it was pre-made since I saw the same dessert at another accommodation later on. The tuna sashimi served was bright red—I've never seen such red tuna served at any other accommodation before! Usually, for this class of Ryokan, medium fatty or fatty tuna is expected. The vegetables in the simmered dish served during breakfast seemed like they might have been frozen; for example, the taro root was perfectly round when it's typically cut into hexagonal shapes—even I can do that myself! Additionally, as someone from Tokyo, I found the seasoning overly sweet. The only dish I truly enjoyed was the sukiyaki—it was delicious. <Large Public Bath> When we checked in during heavy rain and wanted to warm our chilled bodies immediately after arrival, we were told there would be a 30-minute cleaning time starting from 3 PM! This is unacceptable!! It shows they are not prepared to welcome guests properly—this has never happened anywhere else I've stayed before! When we went back after 30 minutes as instructed, there were already about ten people in there despite only eight guest rooms being available—how could this happen? It felt overcrowded like washing potatoes together... The washing area spaces were narrow and difficult to pass through; even using the shower felt awkward due to lack of space. The water level in the bath itself seemed low—we tried looking around with others to see where water might be coming out but couldn't find any source of flowing water at all! To make matters worse by then something floating looked suspiciously like dirt or grime so we left quickly feeling uncomfortable. <Room's Washroom> It’s extremely small with no space available even just placing makeup pouches etc., making usage inconvenient overall. These two major points left such negative impressions about this accommodation overall despite some positives elsewhere: The service provided by both dining staff members (Nakaisan) & Okami-san (hostess) stood out positively—they offered excellent hospitality throughout our stay including recommending northern routes leading us towards beautiful cherry blossom viewing spots nearby multiple times enhancing experiences outside their premises significantly too!     It was a wonderful accommodation.

    It was a very kind and homely accommodation. We stayed for 2 nights, and the dinner menu could be changed, allowing us to enjoy our meals without getting bored. I would love to stay at this accommodation again when visiting Nagahama.

    The staff were polite and kind. From the welcome fruits to the end of our stay, we felt their thoughtfulness. During dinner, a staff member prepared maps and discount tickets based on our plans for the next day through casual conversation. The in-room amenities were branded products, offering a level of service that seemed excessive compared to the accommodation fee. Additionally, the hostess greeted each guest personally during dinner and at checkout, showing great attention to detail. Access to the large public bath was very convenient and enjoyable. This is an accommodation I would like to visit again when traveling to Lake Biwa. In my opinion, promoting shuttle services for guests to places like Kurokabe Square might be beneficial. Apologies—since I prefer stretching my legs in open-air baths at large public baths, I rated it a 4 out of 5.

    A cozy Stays. The open-air bath attached to the Room is an Onsen, but since it has a heating function, it takes quite a while to raise the temperature in the morning if you want to enter. The meals were not particularly eye-catching. The Room feels like old things have been repaired. The good point is that the entire Property is tatami, so there's no need to move around with shoes.

    Cost-effective Stays

    Upon arriving by rental car, I couldn't find an entrance where I could park the car, and there was no one to greet me, so I parked in the lot and carried my luggage myself, entering through what seemed like a back entrance. I checked in at the lobby, where the part-time shift schedule was scattered around, and I thought I had made a big mistake. However, the room was clean, and the room's private bath with a view was quite pleasant. It would have been even more enjoyable if the weather had been better. The highlight was the dinner. It was a teppanyaki meal, and the chef was skilled, allowing us to savor a full course of Omi beef. The chef was friendly, and the conversation was lively, with the waitress being attentive, making for a very enjoyable dinner. The satisfaction with the dinner at this price range was very high, and I thought it was a property with great cost performance. At checkout, the lobby was neatly organized, and they helped carry my luggage to the car in the rain, so I guess they were just caught off guard upon arrival, haha. I would like to visit again if I have the chance.

    An authentic Japanese-style inn with a traditional restaurant.

    This is an attractive inn that serves as a model of "hospitality" as a Japanese guesthouse. The hospitality led by the proprietress makes you feel glad you came. Although the proprietress humbly described the cuisine as local country cooking, it was not at all the case; even without special luxury ingredients, every dish was tasteful, visually appealing, and elegantly presented, allowing us to thoroughly enjoy the meal. There are plenty of inns and hotels that are good if you pay a high price, but it's rare to find an inn at this price that offers rooms, cuisine, and hospitality that rival such establishments. However, it is not recommended for those who cannot be satisfied without large hotel inns or strongly flavored Kanto-style dishes. I rated the hot springs/bath a strict 4 only because I didn't particularly like the open-air bath in the large public bath, but since all rooms have open-air baths, this is not much of an issue. Thank you to the proprietress and the staff for taking care of us even after check-out despite being busy.
