This Accommodation offers warm hospitality and delicious meals.

I visited again after a long time and was able to relax in the same wonderful Room with an impressive stereo system and traditional folk-style decor. There are many steps and stairs, so it is not barrier-free. The bath is not very large, so it may not be ideal if you are coming mainly for the Onsen, but it was never crowded and the shower worked fine. The mist sauna was closed. There was no valuables box, and leaving items at the front desk was a bit inconvenient, but the staff were very pleasant and gave us lots of helpful sightseeing advice. The biggest highlight was the meals—everything paired perfectly with drinks. The portions were just right, every dish was delicious, and we were very satisfied.

I was impressed once again by how delicious the meals were!

This was my second stay since 2018. As always, every dish at dinner was delicious, and I was very satisfied. The hospitality was also wonderful, and I truly appreciated the advice for visiting Matsumoto Castle the next day. Thanks to your guidance, we were able to sightsee smoothly without feeling the heat too much. If I have the opportunity again, I would love to stay with you in a different season. Thank you very much!

The meals were very satisfying, but the Onsen...

The Onsen was disappointing for the following reasons: 1) Although it was advertised as an accommodation with a natural hot spring, the large public bath used a circulation system. 2) The temperature of the Onsen in the large public bath was too low to warm up properly. 3) The water pressure from the faucets in the large public bath was too weak to rinse off thoroughly. As a result, I only used the large public bath once and did not feel like going back again. Instead, I exclusively used the private Onsen (which was indeed natural hot spring), but there was only one private bath available, and its availability could only be checked on-site, which was inconvenient. Additionally, there were no "in use" signs outside of the private Onsen, so I had to try opening its door to see if it was occupied or not. On a positive note, however, the meals were absolutely delicious and very satisfying!

    We were completely satisfied.

It was my first visit to Sugimoto in a while. The facility and rooms remain beautifully maintained. A calming, classic atmosphere. Delicious soba noodles. Everything was just as it always is. Consistency is something rare and precious, but you can always find it at Sugimoto, which I deeply appreciate. I look forward to staying again. Thank you very much!

    Delicious meals

The meals were delicious, prompting a return visit. The horse sashimi had no strong taste, and the white rice was exceptionally tasty—everything about the meal was satisfying. However, the numerous stairs can be a drawback.

    I was a bit disappointed.

The room was dark, dusty, and lacked cleanliness. The water and other facilities were insufficient, making it difficult to have a comfortable stay. Disappointing...

Thank you for your hospitality. The room, with its beautiful furnishings, was spacious and comfortable even for four people. Walking through the underground passage to the restaurant heightened our expectations, and the food exceeded them. All four of us are very satisfied.

The decor is breathtaking and inspiring.

We chose this accommodation after reviewing the website and were immediately drawn to the photos of the room, deciding on it right away. Upon arrival and being shown to our room, we were amazed by the stunning furnishings, spaciousness, audio set, wardrobe, bed, futon, and unique pillows. Our entire family couldn't stop expressing admiration. The meals featured mountain delicacies along with dishes rarely experienced in daily life, beautifully presented for a truly special time. Seeing the floor plans of various rooms made us realize how many guest rooms there are; we definitely want to visit again. Despite arriving just before dinner time and causing concern for the staff who welcomed us warmly nonetheless, their kindness left a lasting impression. The next morning when my husband mistakenly took both our car key and room key while retrieving our car during checkout preparations, one staff member kindly offered to run back for it himself—a gesture that deeply touched us and reflected Ryokan Sugimoto's heartfelt hospitality. In December last year, both my father and mother passed away unexpectedly on the same day due to sudden illnesses. We traveled from Hokkaido and Kanagawa to Nagano for memorial services at my mother's ancestral grave where part of her ashes were interred. As a family still grieving their absence deeply during this trip with their remains accompanying us everywhere we went—it was truly comforting staying at such an elegant accommodation full of charm like Ryokan Sugimoto. I believe both parents would have thoroughly enjoyed themselves here too; especially my mother who loved beautiful artistic things—this ryokan must have been particularly delightful for her as I can vividly imagine her joyful expression now. Thank you so much once again! Someday in future visits together as family members reunited—we hope everyone here continues staying well until then!

The private bath and mist sauna are out of order.

    - Free private Onsen bath A 100% natural hot spring private bath is available for free for guests and can be used 24 hours. However, it was out of order and unavailable during our stay. - The mist sauna in the women's bathroom was also out of order. Judging by the worn-out notice, it seems to have been non-operational for quite some time rather than just a week or so. Despite being mentioned in the plan details, there was no prior notice or information provided at check-in about these issues, which was disappointing as we were looking forward to them. - Shampoo options are available like a shampoo bar where you can choose from several types. - The quality of the water in both the indoor and outdoor baths was excellent! The room is spacious, with renovated and clean facilities such as the bathroom area and a hinoki (cypress) bathtub inside the room. However, please note that this hinoki bathtub does not use Onsen water. It was convenient to have skincare amenities like cleansing products, lotion, cream, etc., provided in the room. Also worth noting is that the hairdryer in the room is more powerful than those in the public bath area! There are no vending machines within this accommodation; you may need to bring your own drinks including water or walk about three minutes to a nearby Alpico Taxi station. As mentioned by other guests' comments as well: our assigned room required climbing stairs up to the third floor without an elevator—those concerned might prefer requesting rooms on lower floors!

    For Active Travelers

Parents' Room (Kiku) Located on the first floor, but there are about eight steps of stairs, half without handrails. The interior is renovated, very clean, spacious, and comfortable. However, the toilet sounds are audible, which might require consideration depending on relationships. Equipped with three TVs and two air conditioners for exceptional comfort. My Room (Alps?) A significant number of stairs to climb up and down. While I was worried about carrying luggage myself on the way back after assistance during arrival, it turned out manageable. The bathroom is clean but has an old-fashioned floor with many stains; bringing disposable slippers is essential as walking barefoot feels uncomfortable. Meals Both breakfast and dinner were delicious. Although designed for those who enjoy alcohol, even as non-drinkers my parents and I thoroughly enjoyed everything served. We didn’t have room for additional soba noodles offered separately but recommend trying them if you have a bigger appetite. Onsen Experience The private bath was out of service due to malfunctioning; even in the highest-grade rooms, baths are not Onsen-fed water—this may disappoint guests seeking an Onsen-focused stay. Some rooms are inconveniently located within the accommodation; we recommend Kiku for elderly guests while noting slipper use throughout increases fall risks inside premises where dining areas remain distant from all guest rooms. Overall Impression As frequent travelers annually across various destinations—this accommodation offers excellent value-for-money stays! Standout highlights include outstanding cuisine alongside genuinely hardworking staff members delivering impeccable hospitality despite challenging internal logistics themselves tirelessly accommodating every need graciously without complaint whatsoever leaving lasting impressions worth revisiting again someday soon! Lastly stopping briefly mesmerized overhearing soft jazz melodies gently playing inside shared lounge spaces added unexpected charm enhancing overall memorable experiences further!

This is my second stay, and I am always comforted by the warm hospitality of the owner and staff. The interior, adorned with folk art furniture and accompanied by jazz music, provides a relaxing atmosphere. The meals feature Nagano's specialties and seasonal ingredients, offering satisfaction for both the palate and the eyes! This is a Ryokan I would love to visit repeatedly in different seasons!

    It was unfortunate.

I visited with high expectations as it was recommended by locals. I understand that it is a high-level Ryokan overall, but the biggest issue was that there was no hot water in the washing area of the Onsen's large bath, so I had to wash my body with the bathwater. Although hot water came out at first the next morning, it gradually stopped, and I struggled to rinse off the soap from my body. The meals were not impressive enough to offset this issue. I was surprised when I was initially told to finish the meal within an hour to an hour and a half. I left with a feeling of disappointment.

The meals are very delicious and it is a wonderful Ryokan.

Both dinner and breakfast were very delicious, and there is also sake and wine available. The staff were very kind, and I had a pleasant stay. One disappointing point was that the shower in the bath didn't work well, with only a trickle of water, making it difficult to wash hair. I was looking forward to the Onsen, so that was a bit disappointing. Other than that, I am satisfied!
