I’d love to stay here again!

This magnificent historic building has been lovingly cared for, and it’s truly wonderful. From the Gabbeh rugs and floral arrangements to the staff’s hospitality, I felt the proprietress’s sense of style in every detail. The baths were amazing—especially the mixed-gender riverside open-air bath. Listening to the waterfall, I could have stayed there forever. The detached cypress bath was also fantastic; even the path leading to it made me realize again that we had come to a great Ryokan. One thing I appreciated was that there was a women-only time slot for the mixed-gender bath, so I could relax and enjoy it. My university-aged son suggested that having a men-only time slot as well might help some guests feel more comfortable. Every dish was delicious, and we were completely satisfied and full. The drip coffee provided in our Room was also excellent. Thank you so much to everyone at the Accommodation for responding quickly and kindly when my mother had her little clumsy mishap. We had such a happy time. I hope all of you who work with such warm smiles are happy as well. I truly wish this wonderful Ryokan will continue for many years to come. We’ll be back! Thank you very much for everything.

    The autumn foliage is stunning.

The autumn leaves were very beautiful from the room. There were many tourists from overseas, but there were no issues, and it was a great experience to chat in the open-air bath. The staff seemed to include those proficient in languages, showing their efforts as an accommodation. The variety of uniquely designed baths was enjoyable. The food was also delicious. However, the reservation method for private baths may need some consideration.

    A Wonderful Moment

Kurokawa Onsen Oku no Yu Surprisingly diverse types of Onsen. The open-air bath is mixed-gender, with a rock bath and an open-air bath located near the river. Meals are made with fresh ingredients, offering a gentle and delightful taste.

    The meals are not tasty.

The service at the Ryokan was good. The bath was also nice. However, the Room was too old, which surprised me. The futon seemed to have mites as I woke up with three bites in the morning. The food was not tasty, which left me disappointed.

    Kurokawa Onsen Repeat Visitor

I have stayed at different accommodations six times in the past, and my 91-year-old mother was very impressed. The meals were delicious and served in just the right portions. The time-limited open-air bath was not crowded, allowing us to enjoy a relaxing soak. However, the stone and rocky footing seemed a bit challenging for elderly guests. That said, we managed to try all three baths. Thank you for your hospitality!

Experience of the Private Family Bath

The family bath's washroom was small, and there was only one basket for clothes, which was inconvenient. Since the family bath is used by multiple people, we hope this can be addressed next time.

The pool is too cold to enter.

There was no washing area in the Room bath, so I felt it was tough in the morning and evening. The hairdryer was old. I was looking forward to the pool as it was written that it was heated and open all year round, but the temperature was almost like fresh water, and it seemed impossible to enter except in midsummer. The only warm water was the pouring water in the pool, but I was astonished when told that it could only be refilled the next day after being used up. The meals were cleared away quickly, which was good in terms of speed, but it was disappointing as it made me feel uneasy when cleared away so quickly. Even though I left immediately after eating both in the morning and evening, I couldn't feel relaxed. The cold bath was also full of leaves, which was disappointing. The hand soap in the Room was surprisingly scarce, which was shocking.

A property with excellent meals and onsen.

We stayed with four friends of 10 years, and it was a property with onsen and meals that were very satisfying! You can enjoy several types of onsen, and I think the large open-air bath at night and the river bath are the best. With so many types of onsen, it was a nice point that you could use a new towel each time. The meals, including meat, river fish, and mountain delicacies, were satisfying in both quantity and quality. We shared our impressions every time we ate, and I think it was really delicious. The staff were all very kind and often smiling, and although we were a group of well-traveled adults, it was a relaxing and pleasant one-night stay. If I have the opportunity to come to Kurokawa Onsen again, I would like to repeat! Thank you very much!

Hot spring! It was the best.

We stayed in a room with a private open-air bath. The inn felt a bit old, and I thought it could become a much better place with a little more care. It lacked a sense of luxury for the price, which was disappointing. Various types of baths were available, but in the end, the open-air bath in the large public bath was the best. The open-air bath by the river was at just the right temperature, allowing us to stay in for a long time. The staff were cheerful, hardworking, and all wonderful people. Thank you very much.

    Various things caught my attention.

Based on my experience of staying at many hot spring inns nationwide. No welcome drink, no coaster for tea during meals, thin cushions and futons, cheap-looking cups for both the washroom and meal water, no hand soap in the washroom, towels look worn out and lack a sense of cleanliness, no newspapers or magazines in the lobby, tea during meals is so weak it has almost no color or taste, the chawanmushi is lukewarm, and the sweetfish is undercooked. The most surprising thing was when I tried to have tea in the room, I thought there was no set, but when I tried to close the door to the toilet, I noticed the set was under the wicker table (next to the bedroom). You wouldn't know this unless they told you. Overall, cost-cutting is very apparent. The baths were all good. The inn's feature might be the pool. Although it's surrounded by nature and the environment is good, overall it was disappointing.
