    We always enjoy staying here.

I stay here frequently. I always feel relaxed thanks to the hospitality, meals, Room, and Onsen. The meals are very delicious—so much so that I end up overeating. The Room is also great: it’s comfortable for working and comes with an Onsen, making it perfect for a refreshing break. I will definitely stay again.

All rooms feature private open-air baths, the meals are delicious, and it’s a secluded hideaway for adults.

To celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary, we splurged a little and made a Reservation at an Accommodation with a private open-air bath. It was unfortunately raining when we arrived, but the staff kindly brought umbrellas out to the parking lot, which was a huge help. All Rooms are separate villas, each with its own open-air bath! The water is a bit hot, but it’s quiet with the mountains right in front of you—we soaked three times at a leisurely pace. The meals were excellent, beautifully blending Japanese and Western flavors, and even the small side dishes were handmade. We were told the wine was recommended, so we ordered a half bottle—it was delicious. The staff who served our meals and the young proprietress at reception were friendly and easy to talk to, yet never overbearing; we really appreciated their warmth and perfect sense of distance. When we mentioned it was for a celebration, they also treated us to complimentary drinks, for which we’re very grateful. The next morning was clear skies, and we also enjoyed the shared open-air Onsen (with breathtaking views). It’s a little away from both Yufuin and the Yunohira Onsen town area—highly recommended for an adults-only style getaway if you want to relax in peace and quiet. We would love to return for our next celebration. Thank you very much for your wonderful hospitality.

    Everything was perfect.

We arrived a little earlier than planned, but they welcomed us very kindly. I was traveling with my elderly mother and was a bit worried, but they had prepared chairs in the Japanese-style room, which we truly appreciated. The meals were luxurious—almost too much—and everything was delicious. The rice cooked in a traditional hagama pot was especially amazing. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to use the lower open-air bath this time, but we’re looking forward to it on our next visit. Thank you very much for everything.

    The Perfect Weekend

We enjoyed a relaxing Multiple Night Stay over a weekend with light snowfall on the quiet mountains of Yunohira. The view from the open-air bath was stunning, making it the perfect retreat. The service was excellent, and the food was delicious.

Relax your mind and body in nature. Complete satisfaction guaranteed!

This was my first time staying at this accommodation. Located deep in the mountains and surrounded by nature, this accommodation provided a perfect environment for me, coming from Tokyo, to relax both physically and mentally away from the daily hustle and bustle. With only a few rooms available, I hardly encountered anyone inside the facility. I enjoyed spending tranquil moments gazing at the mountain views from the private open-air bath (large communal bath) or stargazing at night. The washing area in the large communal bath is minimalistic, but since each room has its own spacious washing area, indoor bath, and open-air bath, you can take your time relaxing there as well. The room itself was spacious enough and impeccably clean—there was honestly nothing to complain about! The staff were incredibly polite and welcoming, making my stay very comfortable. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious; it’s easy to see why there are so many repeat guests! I would love to stay here again. Thank you very much!

    I had a relaxing time.

I stayed at the accommodation alone for the first time. I didn’t encounter any other guests and was able to relax surrounded by nature. The meals were served at my pace, and while everything was delicious as expected, the rice was particularly outstanding. Despite my age, I ended up having three bowls of rice even at breakfast (laughs). The bath felt a bit hot for me, but since I was the only one there, I could take my time and enjoy it in several sessions. I would love to stay again. Thank you very much!

    Bedding

The bedding was Airweave, which I had heard good things about, but the mattress was firm, and both my husband and I woke up with stiff bodies. At home, we use a Tempur mattress, which is softer and recommended for older individuals. The massage chair was excellent—I felt like getting one for our home. The open-air bath was very relaxing.

    Perfect for those seeking relaxation

Located in a secluded area, this accommodation is perfect for those seeking a private retreat. The bath and the view are excellent, allowing for multiple relaxing soaks. Meals include freshly cooked rice served in an earthenware pot. The rice, sourced locally, was delicious. It would be wonderful if leftover rice could be made into onigiri or other snacks for later, though it might not be possible due to hygiene reasons—it was so good that leaving any behind felt wasteful. This is an accommodation that truly lives up to its reputation of having many repeat guests.

    It was very relaxing.

This is my fourth visit. The air is fresh, the water is pure, and the food is both visually stunning and delicious. It's a perfect place to take a break from busy daily life and relax. Highly recommended: enjoy a coffee while soaking your feet in the footbath. Waking up to the sound of birds chirping in the morning is also delightful. The warm hospitality of the host and hostess adds to the charm. Though I wish it were closer, this accommodation always makes me want to return, and it's also my husband's favorite place to stay.

    The Best Open-Air Bath!

The mountain road was a bit challenging to drive, but we enjoyed a quiet and relaxing stay. The meals were delicious, and above all, the open-air bath attached to the Room was amazing. It was spacious, and we fully enjoyed it while admiring the mountains and trees.

    It was very relaxing.

The Onsen is located right next to the room, making it easy to access, and the view from there was wonderful, allowing me to spend a fulfilling time both physically and mentally. However, the firmness of the bed did not suit me...

    Not bad.

We chose the "San-zashi" Room to enjoy the cherry blossoms from our room, but they were only about 30% in bloom and seemed much later than those on flatlands. However, the shared terrace's cherry blossoms were about 80% in bloom, so we could still enjoy them. The open-air feeling of the large public bath was wonderful. However, it was exposed to direct sunlight in the morning. For women’s baths, entering later before check-out provided some shade. Towels and amenities were well-prepared and comfortable to use. Please note that the shared footbath is also exposed to direct sunlight in the morning. The female staff had a wonderful smile and thoughtful service. During dinner, there was one dish without an explanation of its sauce, so I ended up eating it without knowing its flavoring. The male staff serving us apologized by saying "I’m sorry," but his tone felt formal and cold without warmth or sincerity. Once I got that impression, he seemed expressionless throughout our interaction, leaving me with a disappointing feeling. The Facility was clean with no visible power lines or car noise—a very pleasant environment overall.

A relaxing and tranquil accommodation where you can enjoy peaceful moments.

This was our second visit to Accommodation Hanakari. We had a wonderful experience last time, so this time we chose it for a memorable trip with my mother. Despite the unusual weather with thunder, heavy rain, strong winds, and even hail on our way to the accommodation, it luckily turned into light rain upon arrival. We were grateful for being greeted with an umbrella at the parking lot. We stayed in the Kaede room under the standard kaiseki plan for one night. When making the reservation, I mentioned that I have knee pain and asked if a small high chair could be provided; they kindly prepared one in our room, which was very helpful. Upon entering the room, we took a deep breath as we enjoyed the pleasant aroma of tea from an incense burner. After relaxing for a bit, we chatted while soaking in our private open-air bath in the room. Both dinner and breakfast were visually stunning and absolutely delicious—each dish was delightful! The dessert was luxurious and made us feel happy! After dinner, we enjoyed café latte and espresso from the coffee machine at reception; these were also excellent. We indulged in our private open-air bath again both at night and in the morning. The atmosphere of Accommodation Hanakari remains as welcoming as ever—the owner and staff create such a comfortable environment that makes you feel right at home without being overly attentive or intrusive. Time spent both in our detached accommodation area and within the main building felt peaceful and serene. It allowed us to escape from daily hustle-bustle or work stress—it truly offered relaxation like no other. This is an ideal place where adults can enjoy quality time leisurely. My mother also had a wonderful time filled with joy—it became such a special memory for us both! Thank you very much!

    Enjoyed the cherry blossoms.

This stay coincided perfectly with the cherry blossoms being in full bloom, and they were absolutely beautiful. I am always grateful for the delicious meals that please not only the eyes and heart (but of course, the palate as well) and for the relaxing hospitality.

    It was great.

I had a very relaxing stay. Although there were other guests, the small number of people and the distance between rooms allowed for a quiet experience. The meals were delicious. My only regret is that I ate too much at lunch and couldn't try the original cocktail during dinner. The shuttle service from Yunohira Station was also very helpful.

The open-air bath and meals are exceptional.

Recommended by my brother, we stayed as a couple. Although I thought Yufuin was noisy, Oku-Yunohira is quite far away and deep into the mountain paths. Each accommodation is separated, and each has an open-air bath large enough for three people. The meals in the morning and evening were excellent.

Both the Onsen and the meals are very satisfying.

We stayed for two nights and three days from January 2nd. Since we decided to go to an onsen for New Year's quite late in the year, we chose this property by process of elimination, so we visited with the expectation that it would be reasonably good. However, from the first day, everything was unexpectedly pleasant in a good way, and it was a series of comfortable experiences. Everything was better than imagined, and we were able to spend three very comfortable days. The indoor and open-air baths attached to the room were much more spacious than those in the more expensive onsen properties we had used before, allowing us to relax and enjoy ourselves. My father, who is elderly and tends to avoid onsens because he feels pressured by the speed of others in the large public baths, was also satisfied as he could enjoy it at his own pace. We were impressed by the delicious and sophisticated meals related to New Year's traditions and "fortune." We highly recommend that guests choose a plan with meals to fully enjoy the dining experience. I believe the property is managed with the minimum necessary staff, but everyone was very cheerful and provided comfortable and adequate service. They also kindly attended to my father, who is inevitably slow-paced, and he was pleased. We were truly surprised to find such a wonderful onsen deep in the mountains of Oku-Yunohira. It is definitely one of the properties we would like to visit again.

    The best onsen stays!!

Both the Onsen and the food were excellent. I entered the open-air bath in the evening, and the view from the open-air bath on the mountain as the sun set is unforgettable. Usually, I only stay in the Onsen for about 10 minutes, but I enjoyed the gentle water for about 30 minutes with a calm feeling. I would like to come again.

    Stayed for 2 nights....

Stayed for 2 nights. The room is not luxurious overall, but functional. Here are some comments. 1) The man at the reception (seems to be the manager) is neither friendly nor helpful. It was raining when we checked in, so we asked for help to park the car and carry our large luggage inside (we had been traveling in Japan for a week). He curtly refused, saying his back hurt, and did not arrange for anyone else to help. As a result, we carried our luggage ourselves. Later, during check-in, he showed us a note on how to use the onsen in the room, but his tone and attitude were as if he were giving orders in the military. This made us feel unwelcome. (2) For our 2-night stay, we ordered the Oita Wagyu dinner plan for an additional fee for both nights. The main dish for the first night's dinner was steak. However, for the second night's dinner, without prior consultation, we were served an all-fugu menu (see photo). I know fugu is considered a luxury fish in Japan, but they didn't even ask if the guests liked it. Moreover, I ordered Wagyu, not fugu. When I said I didn't want an all-fugu menu, the man insisted that something different had to be offered on the second night. While I appreciate the desire to make a difference for the second night's dinner, they should at least have consulted us first about whether we liked fugu. Also, regardless of any changes to the second night's menu, the main dish should have been Oita Wagyu, as we ordered and paid for it. In the end, he reluctantly said he would change the main dish to steak, but everything else would remain fugu. We had no choice but to accept. The steak that was served afterward was terrible. It was tough and tasteless. Neither my husband nor I liked fugu, especially when the menu was all fugu. This is a ryokan we will never visit again.

For me, it was a perfect Stays.

The music playing at the front desk is just to my liking. There is a private open-air bath in the guest room, but there is also a shared open-air bath, which is also wonderful. The meals were delicious, with a touch of surprise and emotion. It's a bit inconvenient to get to, but I would like to visit again somehow.

It is a very relaxing Stays.

Unfortunately, due to the weather and rain, I couldn't fully enjoy the view, but I was satisfied with the indoor bath. The open-air bath doesn't have a roof, so you get soaked in the rain, but I think it would be a great place to relax with a spectacular view if the weather is nice. However, the temperature of the open-air bath was quite low, so it might be tough in winter if it stays like that. On the other hand, the open-air bath in the room allowed for temperature adjustment, and I was able to relax and enjoy it. The food was all very delicious, and I felt the warmth of the carefully prepared dishes. Although I thought the portions were small, there was actually a wide variety, and I ended up feeling quite full. This time, I traveled alone, but the fact that it was a private room and I didn't have to worry about my surroundings was also a plus. If I had to suggest any improvements or requests, it would be that there were times when the sound of the air conditioning or some other ventilation-related noise was noticeable at night. Without that, I feel I could have slept more soundly in the silence. It wasn't a loud noise, but because the surroundings were quiet, it was the only slight disappointment. I would love to visit this property again when the weather is better. Thank you very much.
