The food was great value for money, and we were very satisfied.

I’ve stayed at Amanojaku, Tenku no Fune, and Tenshi no Hashigo, and this time I’m back at Ryugu for the first time in a while. The kuruma prawns, simmered octopus, and sea bream rice here are all very delicious, so it’s one of my favorites. If you want a Room with an open-air bath, Sarasa-kan is the option, but having dinner in a Japanese-style Room can be difficult for elderly guests, so we choose a different Room instead—and we’re very satisfied.

    Excellent hospitality

Every staff member was warm and welcoming, and it was the best service attitude of any Hotel I have stayed at. The food was fresh, and we thoroughly enjoyed the seafood. However, perhaps due to the Room grade, even though it is a seaside Hotel, we did not have an ocean view, and we also could not see the sea from the dinner venue, which was disappointing. In any case, it was a truly wonderful Hotel. I would like to come again.

    We thoroughly enjoyed the sea.

Dinner was delicious and generous in portion size. I was so full that I almost left the tasty sea bream takikomi rice, but the staff kindly offered to make it into rice balls.\nThe Room was clean, and the ocean stretched out right in front of the window, making it very relaxing.\nThe bath was a bit lively as we shared it with what seemed to be a company trip group, but the open-air bath with its wonderful ocean view felt great.\nThe buffet-style breakfast also had plenty of variety and was delicious. The watermelon in particular was very sweet, and I enjoyed a lot of it.\nWhen we left, they waved us off. It turned into a wonderful trip.

    Exquisite… tender simmered octopus.

A trip with my parents. We chose this Hotel at their request to “eat spiny lobster.” The view was great, and the Room was clean. If I had to mention two drawbacks: 1. The bidet toilet in the Room didn’t work. 2. The air conditioning worked differently between the bedroom and the Japanese-style room. Other than that, there were no issues. More than half of the staff were foreigners (Asian), but they were well trained and provided thoughtful, professional service, so we were very satisfied. We went mainly for the spiny lobster, but not only were the spiny lobster and abalone excellent—the simmered octopus was even better than expected, and we were extremely satisfied. Thank you very much.

It was a very satisfying trip.

We stayed in Angel’s Ladder Type A. Just as the Reviews said, the Room, open-air bath, and indoor bath were all extremely satisfying. The meals were excellent—abalone, spiny lobster, and steak. The staff were also very attentive, and we had a very pleasant stay.

    Great.

The Room with an open-air bath had a great view and was very nice. However, I was traveling with an elderly companion, and there were many steps and level changes in the Room, so we had to be careful to avoid falls. It would be even better if the environment were made more comfortable for older guests. For reference, my companion is 97 years old and said it was wonderful and that they would like to come again.

    Hotel Ryugu

This was my first stay at this Hotel, and I truly enjoyed the service and the food. The view from the open-air bath on the rooftop—overlooking the Amakusa islands scattered across the sea—was breathtaking. Just being able to soak in this open-air bath made me glad I came here.

    First stay in 13 years

While planning my second trip to Amakusa—the first in 13 years—I couldn’t forget the stunning view from the Room bath and the freshness of the seafood at dinner, so I chose the same Room as last time. We were blessed with great weather again, and I was even more satisfied than before. If I have another chance to visit Amakusa, I would definitely like to stay here again. Over these 13 years, there have been major earthquakes and COVID-19, and I sincerely respect and appreciate everyone’s continued efforts.

    A Trip to Amakusa

I stayed at Angel’s Ladder on a trip to Amakusa with friends. On the first night we booked Type B, and on the second night Type A (reserved by a friend on another site). At check-in on the first day, we were told that a Type A Room was available and that we could upgrade. However, there would be an additional charge... I have stayed at many places and have been upgraded several times, but I had never been charged extra, so I was surprised. We kept our original Reservation so we could experience both types... The Facility in the Ryugu area feels quite old. The Angel’s Ladder building is completely different. If they are this different, my honest opinion is that I would like the entrance to be separate as well. Also, dinner was at a different restaurant from guests staying at Ryugu, but breakfast was a buffet in another building... I don’t know how much the Accommodation Fee differs from guests staying at Ryugu, but I think breakfast should also be separated rather than shared. I was also surprised that only a No Meals Included Plan was available even though it wasn’t a last-minute Reservation. Since there is no room service, we ended up wandering around looking for somewhere to eat dinner... It was my mistake to assume there would be more restaurants nearby. The trip itself was great—we had good weather and enjoyed beautiful sunsets and calm scenery.

I love Amakusa and was completely satisfied.

We were completely satisfied with the meals, the open-air bath, and the hospitality. We were moved by the view from Kuratake’s “Torii in the Sky,” by the sunset scenery of the Amakusa islands from Ryugu’s open-air bath, and by how delicious dinner was. It was the best trip to Amakusa. We also bought a suitcase full of citrus fruits at a nearby roadside station. We would love to visit again.

The location was perfect, and the sunset was stunning.

I had initially reserved a suite but canceled it due to certain circumstances. Later, I urgently booked this room, and the views from the large public bath and front lobby were absolutely stunning. The evening scenery, in particular, was breathtaking. If given the chance, I would love to stay in a suite next time. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

    It was an amazing experience!!

I was initially hesitant to reserve due to some reviews, but I decided to write this review to reassure others who might feel the same way. For this slightly luxurious trip, I stayed in the "Angel's Ladder" room. From the moment I arrived, the check-in process and room explanation in the private room were incredibly thorough. The room was very clean, equipped with a popular brand hairdryer and a variety of amenities. While the building itself felt a bit old, the cleanliness of the water facilities made it unnoticeable. They provided plenty of welcome drinks and sweets, but what I appreciated most was the 2L bottle of water and two 500ml bottles of water, which were very thoughtful. The bottles featured a cute Kumamon label, which made me smile. The open-air bath required some effort to fill and adjust, which was slightly inconvenient, but understandable. The view from the large public bath was stunning, and I enjoyed the baths twice, which was a great experience. As for the meals, I saw some negative comments, but I found the food to be delicious, the atmosphere wonderful, and the staff incredibly kind. I was especially impressed. I added the live shrimp sashimi to my order, and it was an excellent choice. Every staff member I encountered until my departure was kind and pleasant. When leaving, they even waved goodbye from a distance as I drove away. This is a place I would love to visit again. Thank you very much!

The view from the open-air bath is second to none (probably!).

The open-air bath in the Onsen large bath on the top floor is truly exceptional, surpassing even the finest Ryokan or hidden hot springs! It's worth staying here just for this experience, and you won't regret it. The water temperature is perfect, allowing you to soak for a long time without feeling dizzy. You can watch kites soaring and blue rock thrushes singing right in front of you, while the sunset show during twilight feels almost artistic. It might sound like an exaggeration, but I was genuinely moved. Far better than any infinity pool!

A place you'd want to visit again!!

Stayed for one night to show appreciation to my parents during a visit home. When I mentioned allergies during the reservation, they contacted me in advance and accommodated my needs. Despite being affected by heavy rain just before our stay, which required a change in dining location, they informed us with great care even before our arrival. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed with smiles despite their challenging situation, and we were deeply moved by their exceptional hospitality throughout our stay. As we stayed in the main building, there was some aging noticeable; however, everything was well-cleaned. The room was spacious with large windows offering a serene view of the sea—perfect for relaxing. Dinner featured a delightful course of fresh dishes including spiny lobster, abalone, sea bream, and sea urchin—all delicious and satisfying! The onsen had crystal-clear water with just the right amount of moisture for the skin. The view from the open-air bath was breathtaking—I ended up soaking three times! It’s such an inviting place that makes you want to say "I’m home" when you return again someday. Thank you so much!!

    Accommodation After Flood Damage

Due to the linear rainbands before Obon, Amakusa City suffered significant damage. Our hotel's restaurant became unusable, and the dining venue was changed. We received a prior phone call regarding this matter, and the staff's response during our stay was excellent with high-quality service. We are grateful that the hotel continued operations after such a disaster. Thank you very much. The view, onsen, cuisine, and room were all wonderful.

This was my third stay here. I always look forward to the meals, and this time I was delighted by the complimentary sparkling wine, which made my experience even more enjoyable. The view of the islands from the bath was breathtaking. Additionally, the staff's hospitality was excellent. Although it is far away, I would love to visit again.

    It was very relaxing!

The warm welcome upon arrival and the attentive guidance to our room instantly eased the fatigue from driving. Before dinner, we quickly headed to the Onsen... The clean and comfortable bath made us feel as if we had never been tired at all. Dinner was absolutely satisfying with fresh ingredients and creative flavors. Since my wife has certain food preferences, we informed them in advance, and they accommodated us perfectly. The early morning bath the next day was also fantastic. Breakfast (buffet) was high-quality and delicious. There was a chef preparing egg dishes live, but it would have been even better if they could take ingredient preferences on the spot to make freshly cooked omelets tailored to each guest's liking. Overall, it was an incredibly relaxing experience!

    The dinner was highly satisfying.

The dinner course was a bit much for us older guests, but each dish was incredibly delicious, and we ended up finishing almost everything. The specialty, tender simmered octopus, was particularly outstanding. The public bath was small but enjoyable as it offered a view of the sea from the rooftop. The staff were also very kind and attentive. We reserved a slightly larger corner room. There were chairs on the balcony where you could enjoy the sea view, which would have been delightful if the weather had been better (unfortunately, it rained that day). Overall, it was a satisfying stay. If I had to point out something minor, there was an intermittent humming noise near our room and some fogging on the glass doors (likely due to strong sea winds), which were slightly disappointing.

The seafood dishes were incredibly delicious.

Located in a picturesque area facing Amakusa Matsushima, the views from the room and restaurant are exceptional. The room is on the second floor of Sarasa-kan, with a chapel and wedding hall on the first floor. Dinner is served in the room, while breakfast is offered buffet-style in the wedding hall. The cuisine focuses on seafood, featuring delicious dishes like simmered octopus, abalone, and fresh kuruma shrimp. The building and room show some signs of age. The private bath in the room is a semi-open-air Onsen with a great view of Matsushima.

It was a very nice accommodation.

It was a trip home with three people, including my elderly parents. The view from the room was great, and we could access the beach directly from the accommodation's garden. While the building showed its age, it was well-maintained and very clean, making for a comfortable stay. The meals were plentiful—almost too much—and made with fresh, top-quality ingredients.

The meals and service were excellent.

I wanted to make my aunt, who lives outside the prefecture, happy, so I used this accommodation for the first time. I made a reservation online three months ago despite not being familiar with it. Five days before my stay, I got worried about whether the reservation was confirmed and called the hotel directly to check. The person who answered told me that if it was an online reservation, there should be a reply online and asked me to check myself. When I requested them to check if my reservation was in their system, they firmly said there was no reservation under my name. I panicked and thought about what to do next. Afterward, without any sense of urgency, they calmly checked again using my name and then stated that the reservation had been confirmed all along—this surprised me. On the day of our stay at the hotel, all staff members we interacted with were very pleasant and made us feel at ease. Dinner was served at a table with an ocean view; it was delicious, and the staff worked efficiently while maintaining a friendly demeanor. What disappointed me greatly due to my lack of attention during booking was the room itself. Upon entering the room, there was a musty smell of mold. The table wobbled due to unstable legs, and sitting on those chairs felt extremely uncomfortable. When I reviewed photos on their website later on, those specific chairs didn’t seem to appear anywhere in their listings—but we ended up sitting on them for long hours chatting anyway. The night turned out difficult as well; when trying to sleep: sweating one moment but feeling cold when removing blankets; noises kept disturbing us; waking up with sore throats—it became unclear whether it felt too hot or too cold overall—and neither myself nor my aunt managed even an hour’s rest throughout! On our way back home afterward—I asked how she fared overnight—and turns out she experienced identical symptoms leading towards sleeplessness entirely like mine did too! If only better care went into choosing rooms beforehand—this would otherwise remain somewhere worth revisiting someday again!

It was an excellent accommodation, just as the reviews said.

I was on the waiting list, but a cancellation allowed me to stay! I had been curious about this accommodation for a long time when visiting Amakusa, and I’m glad I could stay here. The semi-open-air bath was great, but the meals were absolutely amazing. I was fully satisfied with all the delicacies of Amakusa. Unfortunately, I couldn’t see the sunset due to bad weather, but I’ll look forward to it next time!

    The staff is excellent.

From the reservation to check-out, the staff provided flexible and personalized service beyond standard procedures, making our stay very comfortable. The private dining experience while watching the sunset was exceptional, featuring fresh and delicious dishes from Amakusa such as abalone steak, octopus steak, and sashimi. Despite having a hearty dinner, we enjoyed breakfast the next morning without any discomfort. When we requested a small whole cake during dessert the previous day, they arranged one from a nearby pastry shop. The cake was delightful and well-received by everyone. Although we couldn't choose our room due to a last-minute reservation, it seems this accommodation is popular even on weekdays with many repeat guests according to reviews. There are facilities nearby where you can enjoy dolphin watching and other activities for relaxation. This wonderful accommodation exceeded its value for money, and I look forward to visiting again in the future. Thank you!
