We stayed here as three generations—my mother-in-law, my husband, myself, and our children. The inn was very quiet, and since there was only one other group besides us, we were able to relax and enjoy a peaceful stay. For the bath, we could check availability on the signboard next to the reception desk, which made it easy to go in when it was free. My mother-in-law, my daughter, and I were able to enjoy it almost like a private bath together across three generations—such a wonderful memory. We were told the meals use herbal medicine ingredients, but there was no strong taste at all—just gentle, wholesome flavors that were truly delicious. They also prepared special dishes for our 6- and 5-year-old children, who were thrilled and really enjoyed their meal. In our room they provided both beds and futons. The children and I slept on futons while my mother-in-law and husband used the beds. Being able to separate sleeping arrangements according to everyone’s routine made our multi-generational stay very comfortable. There is also a river behind the inn, and in the morning my husband and son went for a walk. It seems they had a refreshing start to the day surrounded by nature. The food, the baths, and the staff’s hospitality were all excellent—we were completely satisfied with our stay. If I had one small note: there are quite a few stairs inside the building, so older guests or anyone with mobility concerns may find getting around a bit challenging. Other than that, everything was truly comfortable, and our whole family had a wonderful time. We would love to stay again if we have another opportunity.

I enjoyed the Horiki Hot Spring while taking in views of the Uregawa River.
You can enjoy Hōekisen Onsen, with a 1,300-year history, as 100% free-flowing natural spring water with no added water. As it is a private bath, I was able to relax and soak at my own pace while enjoying the river view. The scenery of the Uregawa River was also wonderful. The Room will be irresistible for anyone who loves traditional old Japanese houses. The meals were Chinese herbal cuisine prepared by a Chinese chef; paired perfectly with herbal liquor and were truly delicious. The chicken breast soup, black-bone chicken soup, and soft-shelled turtle soup were all excellent. I could also use the baths at a nearby sister property; each had great views and was wonderful in its own way. I stayed for two nights, but there are many attractions nearby and I couldn’t see everything, so I’d like to visit again.

An Accommodation to refresh and restore your body.
I visited Yuya Onsen. It felt like a traditional Onsen town, largely made up of Hazuki and its affiliated Accommodations where we stayed this time. The Accommodation has a Taisho-era romantic vibe. However, the Room and the facilities are well maintained and very clean. We were welcomed with a medicinal herbal tea as a welcome drink. I’m looking forward to their specialty: medicinal cuisine. Before dinner, we went to the Onsen first. Since you can also enjoy an Onsen tour of their affiliated Accommodations, we visited the neighboring Hazu Annex as well. In terms of water quality, Hazuki felt the best. Both had cloudy water with no taste or smell in common, but at the annex I didn’t notice any viscosity; at Hazuki’s Onsen, you can feel a slight silky thickness. It was also great to have it privately reserved while soaking with a view of the stream right in front of you. The meals were a wonderful combination of various ingredients and traditional herbal medicine. Dinner had no strong quirks and was delicious. Breakfast felt slightly more distinctive compared to dinner. I think I was able to spend some truly restorative time thanks to the Onsen and the food. I’ll visit again.

Meals included
I stayed with the expectation of medicinal cuisine, but I was a bit disappointed. For dinner, some dishes, including the initial soup, were lukewarm when served, and I wished they had been hotter. At breakfast, there were no dim sum or freshly made tofu as shown in the accommodation's photo section (as an example). While I filled up on carbohydrates like congee and sticky rice dumplings, I felt a lack of animal protein. At the very least, instead of one small piece of thinly sliced egg about 3cm square per person, it would have been nice to have an amount equivalent to one whole egg per person. The soup served in a bowl was also the same as the one from dinner and felt uninspired. It's unfortunate because it’s a small accommodation that is quiet and relaxing; the service was kind and attentive, and the onsen was great too.

Private Onsen Accommodation
An accommodation with only 5 exclusive rooms, featuring two private onsen baths and private dining rooms. Guests can also enjoy the baths at Hazu Annex and Kaze no Yu HAZU, part of the Hazu Group. This accommodation offers a perfect way to fully enjoy Yunoyama Onsen.

Traditional Accommodation
I stayed here for a solo trip and was impressed by the system that allows private use of the bath within the accommodation. Since I chose the detox course, I felt refreshed both physically and mentally during my stay. Next time, I would like to enjoy a meal-inclusive course on my own.

It was quiet and relaxing.
Listening to the sound of the river and spending a relaxing time was very soothing. The stairs to the second-floor Room are steep, so for those with mobility issues, a first-floor Room might be better. The herbal cuisine was as delicious as its reputation suggested, though having a menu would have been even better. Dinner and breakfast were served in the same private room without windows; it would have been nice if at least one meal could be enjoyed in a private room with an outside view. Unfortunately, the ReFa hair dryer in the Room was broken and unusable. While there is an overall sense of aging in the Facility, everything is well-maintained, and you can feel the effort of all staff members. I would love to visit again for another relaxing stay.

Very satisfied, had a relaxing time.
The staff were polite and welcoming. I was initially worried as herbal ingredients often have a bitter or difficult-to-eat impression, but all the dishes were delicious and easy to enjoy. The bath was crowded at certain times, but with some flexibility in timing, I could fully relax. The Room with a view of the mountain stream was incredibly soothing. I would love to visit again during the autumn foliage season!

A Wonderful Time
I visited with my mother for a day-trip Onsen and a lunch Plan featuring medicinal cuisine. In one word, it was perfect. We arrived earlier than expected, but the staff were incredibly welcoming and guided us to a lovely lobby with a view of the river, where they served us delicious tea. We were soon escorted to the dining area, which also had a beautiful view of the garden and river—such a stunning sight. It was almost like a private room, as we didn’t encounter other guests. The dishes were far more delicious than I had imagined, and each one was carefully explained with details about the medicinal benefits, making the meal truly enjoyable. The open-air bath was absolutely amazing as well. My mother, who came with me, was also very pleased. I definitely want to visit again. Thank you to all the staff!
