    Very good again!

    It had been a while since my last stay, but once again I thoroughly enjoyed the spectacular views, delicious meals, and the silky-smooth Onsen water. While some parts of the Facility felt a bit dated, the hospitality more than made up for it. Next time, I hope to visit in winter to enjoy crab.

    Great hot springs and breathtaking views

    The Room bath was truly relaxing, and I ended up soaking in it again and again. The weather was great, and the views of Wakasa Bay and the surrounding islands from the Room and the bath were absolutely beautiful. Dinner, featuring mainly local fish, was exceptionally fresh and very filling. I tried my best to finish everything, but for the final sea bream rice cooked in a pot, I had it made into rice balls instead. They also handled my allergies properly, so I could enjoy the meal with peace of mind. I woke up early the next morning, which allowed me to enjoy a stunning sunrise. Breakfast was also made with local ingredients; not only were the individual dishes excellent, but simple items like rice, miso soup, and tofu were especially delicious. After breakfast, I wanted to relax a bit longer and take another bath as well, so if late check-out is available, it would be nice to have that as an option. My mother was very happy too, so we would love to stay again if we have the chance. Thank you very much.

    It has changed a lot for the worse compared to 15 years ago. The scenery hasn’t changed.

    As soon as I entered, the elevator’s tatami mat was dirty. The window screen was also poorly made. The air conditioner was so noisy that I couldn’t sleep. Is the property old? The futon was too thick—this is unacceptable. The food was not worth the price; it used to be much better. The open-air bath in the Room was also far too lukewarm. Is management struggling? Please do your best.

    Relax and unwind as a couple.

    We stayed here as our Accommodation while sightseeing in Amanohashidate. The property was very quiet, and the bay view from our Room was wonderful, allowing us to relax comfortably. Both breakfast and dinner offered a wide variety of dishes, and we were completely satisfied.

    The finest hot spring waters and the best seafood.

    I stayed with my parents as a group of three. The view of the Sea of Japan from our Room was spectacular, and the meals featured fresh seafood. The sashimi slices were thick, large, and full of flavor. It was my first time trying sea bream shabu-shabu; the thick-cut sea bream was so rich and flavorful that it hardly seemed like sea bream. The free-flowing Onsen water had a silky texture, and my skin felt smooth after bathing. I visit Onsen around Japan, and this is the best water quality I’ve experienced so far. I would love to return for the delicious food again. Thank you very much.

    A Hidden Retreat Soothingly Serenaded by the Sound of the Waves

    In fact, my wife and I stayed here two years ago in April after visiting Kehi Shrine. Ever since then, whenever we talked about traveling together, she would always say, “How about Watei?” Watei was certainly wonderful, but to be honest, when considering sightseeing as well as the stay itself, I couldn’t quite make up my mind. While I was hesitating, my wife said she wanted to visit Fukuchiyama Zoo and Urashima Shrine—so we went with that plan and decided to stay at Watei again. We arrived early at the Accommodation, but the staff were very pleasant and promptly showed us to our Room. Delicious matcha was served as a welcome drink. This time our view was almost the same as two years ago (from the Room next door), yet it felt strangely calming. When I thought about why, it suddenly occurred to me: you don’t sense other guests at all. Also, because the Accommodation is built atop a sheer cliff, the grandeur of the sea below, the sound of waves rising from beneath you, and how your eye level seems to align with the distant horizon all have a soothing effect. It took me two years to understand this thoughtful design—but perhaps my wife sensed it instinctively; in that sense she may be far more of a travel expert than I am. The Onsen had just the right silky feel and was wonderfully relaxing. The temperature was perfect too, so I soaked many times during our stay. Now for the meals: I generally don’t like in-room dining because food odors linger when you sleep. However at Watei there was no lingering smell at all despite dining in our Room—likely because there is a partition between the bedroom and dining area, and also an exhaust fan in the dining space. Dinner began with five appetizers including an unusual “ugo” aspic; every sashimi selection was thick-cut and delicious. Next came A5 sirloin grilled on a hot stone. Tempura had been listed on the menu next, but as a surprise from the head chef we were served Wakasa guchi instead—and it was outstanding. The rice dish was clay-pot rice with simmered beef and sweet chili peppers; we finished every last bite. Dessert was white pudding accented with red-wine caramel sauce—also excellent. Breakfast had many thoughtful touches as well; my wife especially loved how gently flavored and delicious miso soup with sea bream meat tasted. Thank you very much to the head chef and all staff members. We will be back again.

    I love it.

    I had stayed here before, and the food and baths were wonderful, so I really wanted to come again—and I finally made it. It was just as good as I expected. The Room was clean, and the amenities were well stocked. The staff at the Accommodation were kind, and I had a very comfortable stay. The ocean view from the in-room open-air bath is beautiful, but last time it rained and this time it was snowy scenery. Next time, I want to see the sea on a clear day from the open-air bath, so I’d love to visit again.

    This Accommodation is perfect in every way. The service is exceptionally attentive, and there are many unique charms you won’t find at other Accommodations, from the cuisine to the Onsen.     A foreign manager may not be able to respond flexibly to guests' needs.

    Arrived about 20 minutes earlier than the 3 PM check-in time. The foreign manager instructed to wait in the car until preparations were complete. Requested to wait in the lobby instead, and was allowed inside after a while, waiting for just under 20 minutes. Upon entering the room, found the pillow too high and requested four bath towels to make a substitute pillow. Was informed that each towel costs 300 yen, totaling 1,200 yen. Negotiated for over 10 minutes to exchange the pillow for four bath towels and finally succeeded. The Onsen quality was excellent, and so was the food. However, felt disappointed with the rigid response of the serious but rule-bound Nepalese manager. Unfortunate experience overall.

    It's a decent accommodation.

    As a returning guest, I noticed that coffee is no longer provided in the Room but instead available at the entrance via a drink server. The cups are paper, and the coffee is instant, which feels quite cheap. The lids don’t fit well with the paper cups either, which was inconvenient. Additionally, usage hours are limited. It would be much better to have drip packs provided in the Room along with ceramic cups. Carrying a paper cup from the entrance to my Room feels more like something you'd expect at a Business Hotel. I did enjoy having hot water as I prefer and loved the ocean-view private open-air bath in my Room before this change…

    It was a satisfying accommodation.

    Starting with a welcome drink of matcha and traditional Japanese sweets, the meals were also highly satisfying. As we couldn't finish everything, we were allowed to take the boiled crab home. Perhaps because it was a Sunday stay, it wasn't crowded, and we had a relaxing time.

    The amount does not match...

    The Onsen was very nice. The meals were also delicious. However, overall, I strongly felt that it was not worth the price. I would say it's worth about half the cost... Seeing what I assume to be two luxury cars belonging to the owner parked at the entrance also left a negative impression.

    It was indeed a wonderful accommodation.

    Visited after several years. This time, our entire family stayed together in a newly built spacious room. The room was absolutely lovely, though it was a bit disappointing that we couldn't fully enjoy the large terrace due to bad weather. The food was as delicious as ever, and we were extremely satisfied with the crab season for the first time. We also thoroughly enjoyed the beloved hot springs by taking multiple baths. We hope to visit again in a different season. Special thanks to the staff in charge of our room for their great hospitality. Thank you very much!

    Great value for the price!

    In winter, we often take advantage of long weekends for a two-night, three-day Onsen trip as a couple! While we usually stay at the same Ryokan, this time we decided to try something new and chose Aburaya Bekkan Watei. Although we were slightly concerned about downgrading from our usual accommodation, the room's view, the quality of the Onsen water, and various thoughtful touches made it a truly satisfying trip! The Onsen in the public bath had even smoother water than the private open-air bath in our room, leaving our skin feeling silky smooth—such a pleasant experience. The meals were also incredibly delicious. For our special occasion, they served us salt-grilled small sea bream with its head intact and an additional dish from the chef that paired perfectly with sake. The variety of dishes was impressive and left us completely full. One particularly charming detail was the handwoven crane design on the chopstick sleeves—it was so cute and heartwarming. We also enjoyed chatting with our attendant about local stories and fishing; it made for such a comfortable time that my husband and I are already talking about visiting again soon. However, there were some minor concerns: one being that our partially eaten sea bream was cleared away prematurely without asking if we were finished; another being that some of our luggage was moved without prior notice when tidying up. A simple word beforehand would have been reassuring in both cases. While there are parts of the building where its age shows through here and there, having meals served in-room allowed us to relax without worry—a wonderful feature for an easygoing stay at this lovely accommodation. We look forward to returning again someday soon! Thank you very much!

    Oilya Annex Watei - Excellent!

    This is the best accommodation I have ever stayed at among all the hotels and ryokans I have visited. The view from the room and open-air bath is breathtaking. The onsen, in particular, was incredibly smooth and relaxing, so I enjoyed it multiple times. Truly satisfying! The food was absolutely delicious and plentiful; although I couldn't finish everything, they kindly made rice balls with the sea bream rice for me to enjoy as a late-night snack—it was delightful. Truly satisfying! The room was quiet, very calming, and provided a comfortable stay. Truly satisfying! The hospitality of the staff and chef was exceptional! Thank you very much. I would love to visit again.

    I wanted to bring my daughter here once for her birthday.

    This Ryokan is truly wonderful. We often visit here to celebrate our wedding anniversary or to relax after a tiring summer. This time, we stayed for one night and two days at Watei, as my partner could finally take a birthday break from work and join me instead of staying home with our beloved dog. The Onsen has a silky texture, so be careful with your footing, but I enjoyed multiple baths during our stay. The meals were exceptional, and the dedicated staff member was kind and attentive. For the birthday celebration, we were even served sea bream—thank you so much! The ocean view was breathtaking; it’s truly a healing Ryokan experience. It’s an amazing place overall! However, I was slightly disappointed that no one helped us carry our heavy luggage on departure. Still, I would love to visit again. Next time (though not sure when), I hope to come with my son’s family and grandchildren—it would be such a joy! Though high schoolers might find it less exciting... Even though it was just one night and two days, we had an incredibly relaxing time with fantastic food. Thank you very much for taking care of us—I feel completely refreshed!

    A great accommodation for a relaxing stay.

    It was a serene Ryokan located in Oku-Ine. The staff's thoughtful hospitality from arrival to departure was heartwarming. The room was clean and provided a relaxing atmosphere. Both the dinner and breakfast served in the room had a wide variety of dishes, with excellent taste, presentation, and perfect timing of service. When we mentioned that it was my wife's birthday during our stay, the head chef surprised us with several special dishes during dinner, which were incredibly delicious and made for a truly satisfying evening meal. The bath featured a wonderful Onsen that helped relieve fatigue and felt amazing.

    The Ultimate Journey

    Despite the unfortunate rain, the room and cuisine were exceptional, making it a trip our entire family can unanimously call wonderful. The private open-air hot spring bath with natural flowing water left our skin feeling smooth, and we enjoyed it multiple times. We will never forget how the staff took photos for us outside upon departure and waved us off until we were out of sight. Thank you for an unforgettable journey!

    We stayed for one night on July 6th and 7th. This was our second visit. Both my spouse and I love Onsen, especially in Kyotango, which we often visit. We have stayed at almost all accommodations with open-air baths listed on IKYU.com in Kyotango. Each has its own charm and areas for improvement, but we respect their individual approaches. This time, it had been a while since our last visit, and we had a wonderful experience again. If I may make a suggestion, having bathrobes available would make it easier to enjoy the open-air bath more comfortably. Also, if the check-out time were extended to 11:00 AM, the morning could be spent more meaningfully. We hope to visit again when the opportunity arises. Thank you very much!

    Memorable Trip

    We finally managed to take a vacation together and decided to visit Ine! While searching for accommodation, we found Aburaya Bekkan Watei. For us, who love Onsen, the sea, and quiet places, it was the perfect accommodation. The meals were incredibly delicious. The view from the room was our favorite part. It was a truly luxurious two days. Next time, we hope to visit during winter for crab dishes, snowy scenery, and Onsen!

    A 2-day, 1-night trip

    Everything from the welcome, the room details, the room's Onsen, the cuisine, and the service by the staff was completely satisfying. It was also wonderful to see the sunrise over the Sea of Japan in the early morning. This was a Ryokan I would love to visit again.

    Open-air Bath

    The service, rooms, and meals were all highly satisfying. However, the outdoor bath in the room, which I was most looking forward to, seemed to have a snake living under the eaves... Unfortunately, I could only enjoy the bath for a short time because of this.

    I want a sofa.

    A comfortable chair or sofa for relaxing after a bath or during a short break would be appreciated. The chair at the sink is too small, and the dining chairs are not ideal for resting. While the bed allows you to lie down, a chair for brief relaxation would be perfect. Everything else was satisfactory.

    The food was disappointing for the price.

    The sushi was dry. The crab was watery after defrosting, and the crab miso was runny. The overall dinner portion was too large; we would prefer quality over quantity. No assistance with luggage during the room guidance. Disappointing accommodation for the price paid. We won't return or recommend it to friends. However, the quality of the onsen was excellent.

    Matsuba Crab at Its Best!

    I stayed with my 80-year-old mother and my wife, making it a group of three. Since March is the last chance to enjoy fresh crab, we decided to go for a course featuring Matsuba Crab for one of the two crabs in our reservation, as we wanted to savor high-quality crab even if it meant having less quantity. After reading other reviews, we noticed that many people mentioned they couldn’t finish the second boiled crab, so we opted to change it to Buri Shabu instead. The Matsuba Crab course included sashimi, grilled crab, and a satisfying hot pot with rice porridge at the end (we even asked for less rice because we were so full). The fresh Matsuba Crab was incredibly delicious and left us deeply impressed. Additionally, having our meal served in our room allowed us to relax and enjoy every moment together. It became an unforgettable experience. Thank you very much!

    The attitude of the staff was terrible.

    I used this Ryokan at the end of last year. It was my third time using it, as I had used it for crab trips with my colleagues for the past two years and thought it was a very good Ryokan. This time, however, the attitude of the staff was the worst I have ever experienced. There were several unpleasant points, but the most unacceptable was when they told us to clean up the Room because they were going to lay out the futon, even though not all the dishes had been served during the meal. This was while we were eating, and some dishes in the course were skipped and not served. When I pointed this out, they responded with a rude attitude, saying they were preparing it now and told us to clean up the Room. I refused because it was very unpleasant, but when I went out into the hallway after the meal, I heard them speaking ill of us in loud voices that could be heard in the hallway. Later, a young staff member came to apologize, which made me feel sorry for them. The meal itself was delicious (though the dishes were not served until the end, so I rate it a 2), and the hot spring quality was excellent, but I felt that the attitude of the staff could make the experience so terrible. Unfortunately, I will never use this Ryokan again.

    I was healed.

    This was my first time staying. I was satisfied with everything. I was able to relax alone in the large public bath, and I used the open-air bath in the room several times, which made my skin smooth. Thank you very much.
