The outcomes brought about by Ryokan revitalization are

I had heard that my late father used to stay here frequently soon after the war. Remembering how satisfied he was when he stayed a few times in his final years, I stayed here for the first time since COVID. While the overall atmosphere remains much as it was, the meals and other aspects felt overly “revamped,” and the nostalgic feeling of “I want to come back again” disappeared. Perhaps I have simply grown older and can no longer keep up with the times. It feels as though truly relaxing Ryokan are gradually disappearing. Now that both my parents have passed away, I likely will not visit again.

I stayed here on a solo trip. I loved the location nestled in the forest and the charming atmosphere of the traditional old house. I saw lots of stag beetles, which gave me a great story to share with my kids waiting at home.

I was looking for peace and quiet, but unfortunately...

We stayed here for a family trip. We chose a detached Room because our daughter was visiting home, and we wanted to relax together as a family and fully enjoy an Onsen Accommodation by staying in and taking it slow—so we selected this small Accommodation. There was another three-generation group staying with their grandchild, and I assumed they had the same purpose, but the noise was overwhelming. The child screamed loudly and ran around, and neither the parents nor the grandparents corrected them at all—they simply let them do whatever they wanted. They behaved in shared areas as if they were their own private space, spoke loudly even in the semi-private dining area, and in the end the child even barged into our Room. For those of us who came seeking peace and relaxation, this was extremely disappointing. At the very least, shouldn’t staff have warned them or apologized to other guests on their behalf? It would have required some courage, but that kind of response seems necessary. Recently, more Accommodations are becoming adults-only (no small children), so perhaps it is also time to reconsider the concept of a detached-style Accommodation. The food was delicious across the board, which made it all the more disappointing. As for the Room itself, having the sink and toilet in one space felt like a Business Hotel setup and was discouraging. Although it was described as an open-air bath, we had to fill it ourselves; it was not Onsen water; there was no heat retention—so we did not use it. It felt like such a waste. Regarding Facilities: there was an incident where the electric kettle leaked from its base after boiling. Thankfully no one got burned, but I believe inspections are necessary. The atmosphere of this rustic Accommodation is nice overall, but there were too many small disappointments little by little. Unfortunately, I cannot imagine returning.

    Disappointing

Pros: The breakfast was delicious. The hot spring water quality was good. Cons: The staff’s attitude during check-in and check-out was poor. Dinner was not tasty. Amenities were only available as rentals, and there was hardly anything inside. Despite the inconvenient location, we rented a car and went out of our way to visit, but we couldn’t find it worth the trip.

A very lovely and relaxing accommodation

Thank you for your hospitality. It was a very satisfying accommodation. The meals were also very delicious. As part of the Diamond Member benefits, we could choose not only wine but also sake, which paired wonderfully with the kaiseki dinner (it was served properly chilled). We thoroughly enjoyed the onsen. It was a bit disappointing that the private bath lacked a view. It would have been nice if there were more options in the lounge.

    Onsen and cuisine are excellent.

The private onsen and large public bath were spacious and relaxing, with excellent water quality. The lobby lounge, shop, and the terrace on the second floor were also lovely spaces. The staff's attentiveness was commendable. However, the teapot in the room was a Nambu iron kettle, which made it difficult to brew tea despite the high-quality local tea provided. While Nambu iron kettles are not inherently bad, they seem unsuitable for this purpose; a regular teapot would be preferable. The meals were prepared with fresh ingredients and tasted delicious. The wine included as a special perk paired perfectly with the Japanese cuisine. The rice was so good that I finished an entire pot during breakfast—a rare occurrence for me. Despite this, my satisfaction level regarding dining dropped due to an issue at the dining area: A large group nearby was grilling meat, causing smoke to fill up to the high ceiling (to the point where visibility was affected). Unfortunately, this left my hair and body smelling of meat fat even after enjoying a refreshing soak in the onsen. Even my yukata absorbed this smell and could not be rid of it—disappointing since I had been pleased by its crisp texture. The atmosphere of accommodations such as relocated traditional houses or sake breweries along with their baths and courtyards matched what I saw online—it was truly wonderful! Based on these elements combined alongside pricing expectations beforehand—I assumed mistakenly perhaps—that adults seeking relaxation primarily frequented here instead; however families seemed prevalent too upon arrival itself (later confirmed via reviews). Ultimately though circumstances led toward less-than-ideal experience overall unfortunately!

    It was excellent!

It was excellent! I stayed with a one-night stay with breakfast Plan. The welcome drinks were abundant, and for those who love sake, it’s perfect. The Room and Onsen were very relaxing. Breakfast was also very delicious and easy to enjoy. I will definitely book again!

Accommodation with pride in its cuisine

A warm and welcoming accommodation with kind service. Delicious meals are served at this accommodation. The room with an open-air bath had a wooden lid covering it, which was different from the photos. It felt unmaintained, and the ground level was uneven, making it unclear if the inside was clean after removing the lid. In the end, I used the public bath instead, which was a bit disappointing. If the garden were better maintained for strolling, it would make this accommodation even more charming. The meals were prepared with great ingredients and care, and I enjoyed them very much. The staff's kindness brought comfort and relaxation during my stay. Thank you very much!

A historic accommodation in the mountains

We visited this charming accommodation nestled in the mountains after learning about its rich history. The room was spacious and elegantly designed. We were able to use the private baths when available, enjoying both and feeling truly relaxed. However, as it is located in the mountains, the Wi-Fi signal was weak and disconnected at times, only reconnecting around dinner time. Both dinner and breakfast were very delicious. One suggestion would be regarding the main dish for dinner—while it was an egg-covered conger eel dish, I personally am not fond of eggs and felt that a safer option like steak might have been preferable. We chose this ryokan based on its high ratings and expected it to cater more towards adults; however, we were surprised to find guests with small children present. While dining in semi-private rooms within shared spaces, a baby cried quite a bit during our meal, making it difficult to enjoy a calm dining experience. Of course, babies crying is natural as they grow up; however, I wondered if parents could consider whether such facilities are suitable or think about how their baby's crying might affect other guests—it left me feeling slightly disappointed. Taking time off work involves planning and expenses—it’s one precious day out of 365 that cannot be bought back with money or relived again. To ensure every guest leaves thinking their stay was perfect and wanting to return again someday, perhaps considering making your accommodation child-free could be an idea? As summer approaches with rising temperatures ahead—please take care of yourselves!

The room was spacious, and the food was delicious.

I stayed in a detached room with an open-air bath, but when shown around the Room, I was told that due to the number of insects, the open-air bath in the Room was not recommended. Fortunately, there was a private bath and a large public bath in front of the Room, so it wasn't inconvenient. However, I wanted to use the open-air bath in the Room and tried filling it with water multiple times, but perhaps due to an issue with the water heater, it never filled up. In that case, there was no point in choosing a room with an open-air bath. The Room itself was spacious and clean; however, it lacked both a full-length mirror and a hand mirror which made things inconvenient. The meals were delicious overall; however, we were disappointed as we had been looking forward to trying Japanese sake but found it did not suit our taste.

The service and cuisine were absolutely satisfying. The Ryokan was clean, and the scenery provided a serene and relaxing atmosphere. With fewer rooms, the baths were never crowded, and we thoroughly enjoyed the private family bath as well. We look forward to visiting again soon.

    I was satisfied.

This was an accommodation I had been curious about for a while. The guest rooms were renovated with a Japanese-style interior and equipped with beds, making them very comfortable to stay in. The design allowing guests to enter the room with shoes on might be aimed at international visitors. Slippers and geta sandals were provided, so I used slippers inside the room and changed into geta when stepping out. However, there were no specific footwear for the bathroom inside the room, which made me slightly hesitant to use the same slippers designated for indoor use there. Since there was a proper sofa and no need to sit on the floor, it felt similar to staying at a hotel in that regard. Although I didn’t choose a course featuring luxurious ingredients for meals, they were creatively prepared in terms of flavor and presentation, leaving me highly satisfied. The bath also had a great atmosphere and was enjoyable. Regarding instructions about ryokan facilities upon arrival being provided via QR code scanning—it might feel less impersonal if presented differently—but all dining staff members were exceptionally attentive and courteous. Overall, it was an extremely satisfying stay at this accommodation, and I would love to visit again!

The reserved room was listed as suitable for up to 6 people, but it is not ideal for 4 adults (as one room is designed as a playroom and more suitable for families with small children). It would be better to include this information in the room description. Many of the facilities are outdated and not user-friendly. However, the staff were kind and responded flexibly.

The hospitality and dinner were excellent.

I stayed with my husband and my father, who has difficulty walking. There were no facilities with elevators nearby, so we chose this property. They were considerate of my father's allergy to bluefish such as horse mackerel, mackerel, and sardines for dinner and provided sea bream prepared in various ways. My father was delighted and ate twice his usual amount without leaving anything behind. The meals were generally low in salt, all had a rich broth flavor, and were truly delicious. The air conditioning in our room was not working well, so the room temperature did not rise. However, they provided an additional fan heater and blankets for us to stay comfortably. Although the onsen was far from our room, we could enjoy a relaxing bath that left our skin smooth; it was a pleasant stay. Thank you very much for taking care of us in many ways. If possible, I would like to stay again while the chef who prepared our dinner is still employed here.

    For the 10th anniversary

We wanted to relax at a quiet inn for our 10th wedding anniversary, so we stayed at this inn that we had been interested in. It was quiet, the room was spacious and clean, and we were able to relax. There were drinks and other refreshments available in the lobby lounge. We also enjoyed the delicious food. We opted for the all-inclusive plan, so we were satisfied with the drinks as well.
